- Hey, friends, I hope y’all are staying cool out there. Good lord it’s blazing hot here in TN.
Please don’t forget about this ..
It’s 90% music and 10% the guitar. It doesn’t matter what instrument you’re playing. Guitar just happens to be the vehicle.
It’s all about the ear and feel. You have to be able to hear this stuff to play it in a way that communicates something. It is indeed a language.
The quicker we can think in this way the better the music will be.
Have fun with these ideas!

Trapp, you’re the only dude on RUclips that is teaching the philosophy of how to speak with our instruments/guitars instead of just mechanically playing notes. Thank you my man, it’s profoundly changed my guitar playing.
Profoundly changed... I like this. Because that's exactly what he's done for me too. Cheers!!
You’ll love Jack Ruch too then, @Blues40. Same amazing music language and an absolutely phenomenal teacher.
@@Sammywhat cheers to you as well my friend!
@@CharfishDesign awesome! I’ll check him out. Thank you my friend
Trapp i watch you vedios everyday and learning and understanding play the chords on the quitar.
Who.thought you how play like.that? I am amaze. Have a.grate day and keep up the good works.
The most important guitar teacher on the Internet. Please don't stop preaching CAGED and the fundamentals. It needs to be said and we need to hear it! I look forward to every video; you are a constant source of inspiration.
You are killing it with theese videos. On fire!
Don't mind the "haters" we have all been miserable and /or drunk and said something we're not proud of. I for one.
Love to find what the future holds for you GT.
The way you put it all together is phenomenal. I could listen to you play all day.
Soulfully sweet and enveloping.
Thank you.
PS - I like your hat. Straw for summer. I remember that.
Saw the show at the Underdog last week with John Oates, and it was amazing. Intimate and Guthrie has a great sense of humor. He is very gracious with his time after the show. Talked to me and my daughter and took pictures. Highlight of my trip to Nashville and only 10 freakin dollars. Thanks again Guthrie.
Thanks so much! Great meeting you both!
I'm stoked for the Beato interview. Great video, Guthrie. I'm always picking up something new and fun from you. Thank you!
Tip the man. A dollar, two, fiver, ten. These are gold and you'd pay much much more outside of the computer. Guthrie is worth at least that and we need to keep Guthrie interested in putting these videos out.
That intro sounded like heaven!!
Dude you have got to be the absolute king of chord melody and playing exactly what you hear internally and that can only be achieved by learning everything throughout!
Thanks for always dropping gems of knowledge!
My pleasure!
"thats sucks" lol .. gave me a chuckle
You’re more than a music teacher Guthrie, you are an inspiration for thousands and we appreciate it
There is so much gold in these and great guitar plunking! Thank you very much. Love to see you and 501chorusecho play live, please come to London
Greetings and well wishes from Queensland Australia
Thanks Guthrie - another great one with lots to build on.
Very welcome!
Hiya you keep me playing even if just half hour a day
You're awesome GT!
Buddy, your touch and feel is something to behold
thank you for another great lesson GT
My pleasure!
This is incredible! I have a better understanding now on how it all works..Been following your videos for a while now and I'm a much better player cause of you Guthrie...
Cheers from Toronto, Canada..
Applied magic! Thanks GT.
Any time!
He just keeps bringing it! Beautiful piece.
Thanks for listening!
Been watching your channel for a long time. This is one of your best vids ever. Your improv playing is sublime and your advice is gold. Rock On GT! Your light shines bright and far.
Really good one GT, lots of ideas to play with. 😊
Thanks for the visit!
When does the Rick Beato episode drop?
Love the camo hat in the background!
GT, there's magic in those fingers of yours. Thank you for sharing your talent and knowledge with us mere mortals. And that lesson was something I've not heard before. Makes perfect sense and sounds wonderful. Off to practice now! : - )
Great advice as always, thank you Mr. T
Thanks Guthrie. Beautiful tone and playing as always💙
Glad you like it!
Mr GT, Always get something from your insights for the playing...but also, insights for life...like make friends without a secret motivation to get something out of them....good stuff
Good stuff Guthrie...
That's what I like about your teaching. It's not a bunch of overdrive or gain with a bunch of rock power chords. It's learning where it all comes from. You can play play it loud, but play it wrong and you will empty a room! Great video, as always! You and Buk kill it every time. Real world shit!
9:30, That's is why I watch you, buddy.
Thanks for the awesome and useful content Guthrie. I'm a huge fan! Also, my ear hears Pachabel's Canon in that C major scale thing you are doing.
Stay cool my good man!! Sounds glorious as ever!! Thank you, GT!!
Thanks, you too!
I appreciate you doing these lessons 👊
Glad you like them!
Guthrie, you are right on ,and thank you.
Super tasteful intro again, thank you for adding a little blues too. That do re mi part with the 3rd sounds great! Thank you for your time!
Glad you like it!
This was a really good one. Appreciated! Not sure there could be improvement, music-wise, on either of these "quickie" lessons, but I confess I was looking for you to maybe switch to the flat brim when you got to the blues ideas ...
That was freaking beautiful dude! You are really something Guthrie
Glad you liked it!
Great lesson, Guthrie. Thank you.
My pleasure!
Awesome lesson Again Guthrie !
Killer tone.
Good tips. One interesting observation -- to my ears, resolving the phrase on the major third (in your example, on C# at 11:29), sounded very good. You may disagree, but that's how I'm hearing it.
Sounding awesome as always, very tasteful playing.
Thanks for listening!
Badass!
The most melodic guitariste heat you in the Heart good job GT
Excellent bit o Pacobells cannon love fae Glasgow
Beautiful playing Guthrie!
Thanks for listening!
GT, my grandfather wore hats on the farm because he kept banging his head on stuff. But he used to say something which seems to apply especially to you. "Where there's a clearing, there's civilization." But enough of all that.
Awesome lesson, it got me thinking a little differently about the fretboard.
Love the hat , I get self conscious and look like a dork instead of cool when I break mine out.
Magnifique !
Nice one GT keep up the good work amigo
Awesome lesson.
Great lesson! Got some Dark End of the Street vibes from that C walkdown.
You really made me rethink my use of 3rd's... Oh and i loved that your speaker was wearing the camo-cap :)
Awesome! Thank you!
Mixing penta with major, plus caged.... I'm learning every tin from this cat
You are an inspiration! keep it going! Greetings from Argentina
Thank you so much!
That’s what she said!! I love a good quicky😂.
Classy stuff, I wonder where I would be as a player had I not got into your free lessons a couple years back. Was a great help and still is in terms of practising the right things and always thinking about the chord and the information around it. Cheers GT
Glad to help!
Simply amazing!!!..Nobody plays with the feel you do Guthrie!!..
Definitely listen to a lot of different genres and artists. Great video
Most definitely!
Camo hat on top of the speaker….nice move😂😂😂
I'm going to keep asking for you and Uncle Larry to do an episode on a compressor- Ge7 - Halo and tweak some guitars. Larry is the man with eq.
Great stuff GT!
Beautiful and very inspiring ❤
Intro to LET IT BE…
Way cool Guthrie! Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Damn sounded beautiful
🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Man, what a breakthrough for me on double stops. The major third of every note above the root. How am I such a slow learner?
Hello Guthrie, could you please do a video talking about the the 'slidey' diad stuff that you do on Huevos Al Gusto? Also if you could talk about the 'breakdown' section of the song that occurs before you solo, that is such a cool sound!! Thanks for your videos!!
How do you have so many musical ideas?!
It seems to me you prefer down picking over pure hardcore alternate picking. Would love to hear more about your thoughts on right hand technique and tone (or maybe you can point to one of your courses that discusses this topic)
Dude, I know exactly what you mean. When I TOOK guitar lessons, I was exhausted after a one hour lesson.
Love this guy!;) Guthrie please just say yes or no - did you bend high e in 01:32 of new walking blues solo?😅
Great stuff Mr G. If I'm still alive in February, I'm gonna book a lesson with you for my 72nd birthday...and get my kids to fund it😂. Thanks for the music.
Sounds great!
9 to 5 on a 335 ✌🏻🎶🎸
The brain power is fine.
Your melodies over the lesson progression sounded like that classical piece Canon in D! Or in this case, Canon in C 😅
Just an FYI from a man that has no business commenting on fashion in any way...but that is a styling summer hat!
Musicians musician. I think the difference between players like yourself , buko , duke Levine etc and the rest is its not about showing off your chops. It’s all about the music. How can I serve the music.
Wonder what his favorite guitar is?
Guthrie. I gotta tell you, man I’m lowering all the triads to the cage system all the you know different versions all of that, but I can’t see myself really playing them. Why go to C shaped E chord when you could just borrow across the E on the seventh fret or the sixth fret, and just play that bar cord or any of the other C shaped cords and the shaped cord why would I go to a C cord with an a shaped it doesn’t make sense to me. I’d rather play the bar in versions of it and I could still play the same kind of things off of that. Anyway, let me know. Thank you.
My reply would be when your trying to solo or improv the triads are the notes to solo with and, usually, the chords/triads of the progression those notes are usually right next to each other. Basically you could solo over every chord all in an area of about 4 -5 frets.
