I love your bike reviews but honestly your cheery voice and upbeat attitude is such a refreshing breath of fresh air with all the negativity and hostility online. Hope you have a fantastic trip ! :)
I am from South Wales and I know these roads well. Pembrokeshire, (or Little England within Wales as it is known), is probably my favourite part of Wales with brilliant roads. Unfortunately, like so many other parts of Wales, irresponsible drivers and riders have caused the speed limits to be lowered over the past 10-15 years down to 50mph and 40mph but really glad to hear that you have enjoyed your tour of South Wales so far.
Nice. lovely scenery, Spent some time in Pembroke and Milford Haven 40ish years ago I think I even took the bus to Tenby. I'm sitting here after driving in the snow. Good to see you out enjoying your ride on the GS wishing I was out on mine.
I grew up in South Wales 🏴 and although I now live in Belfast . The landscape is very similar and the roads are superb when you travel 30 mins from Belfast, cracking boyo 😀

I live in the South West and hotel rooms and accommodation here is going for incredible prices this summer. A colleague of mine has a friend who is renting his house out as holiday let for £7000/week and it all booked, he and family have moved in with parents for the summer. Great video TMF I will be touring Wales in September with some mates, can't wait.
Was talking to a fellow rider in a sun drenched Northumberland village, yesterday who had a lovely 2018 Gold Wing. He had a BMW GS and traded it in for the Honda, and funnily enough commented that in his opinion the vast majority of GS riders actually need a proper tourer like the Gold Wing........not an adventure bike they use for touring. Food for thought.
It's a reasonable point, but how many sports bike owners take them racing? I've got a watch waterproof to 1000 meters, clearly I'm never diving that deep, I just like it. GS is a great all-rounder, gold wing is a one trick pony! That being said, it's a awesome pony!
The thing with bikes are that they are very personal. It also depends on where you ride (lots of corners, straight open roads, motorways, sand roads, etc). My favorite is the BMW GS Adventure because of tank size, 2 up comfort & versatility. However I am fortunate that as long as it has 2 wheels, I am happy. The best bike in my opinion is the bike you are riding at that particular time
@@jameswalton8532 His point was not that GS riders don't go off road. It was that the vast majority of GS owners actually go touring with those god awful sticky out aluminium box panniers, when something like the Goldwing - or even arguably the BMW RT - are superior for this purpose, with their panniers designed to blend in to the bike's lines as much as possible at the design stage: the GS's are bolt on afterthoughts. Hence my initial comment re Mr. Flyer's video about his touring....on a GS.....when he has a superior touring bike in his garage.
@@tonebonetones I agree, that's a fair statement! I do dislike the notion that GS's are for posers doing the coffee shop run on a Sunday morning, I try to use mine as they are intended, wild camping off the beaten track as much as I can. Very nice video. Wales really is a gem if you fancy a chilled out scenic tour on your doorstep as it were. Obviously providing you can get the weather right, which looks like you got spot on TMF.. Looking forward to the next episode.

I just realised I visited those waterfalls with friends four years ago, in February, so I know exactly where you were in this episode. The area you travelled through is absolutely cracking; we had both heavy downpours and bright sunshine while we were exploring it but it was lovely all the same. During the soggy moments we explored the interiors of pubs (it was awful, I hated every moment :-) ). The pub on the opposite side of the river was really lovely, roaring fire, really friendly welcome, and great beers. The food was good too as I recall. As others have said, classic TMF. ;-)

Hi flyer. I've got a Nav5 on my 2016 rs & I've put a lot of Simons routes in mine using trip planner in the apps which you can select from the home screen when you first turn the nav on. I drop pins on the roads using the map option. It's very easy. I'll be at ww21 & if your there will be happy to show you how easy it is. P.s I live in Wales & it doesn't rain much more than middle England. The Welsh just ssy it does to keep the roads quiet from English tourists haha
Had my first look at the new generation Laser Guided Speed Gun yesterday. More Police forces have them every month. Can measure from .9 mile but calibrated to 750 metres. Measures speed, reads number plate and automatically generates an NIP with HD film to back it up. Even PCSOs can be trained to use them. Only downside is they cost £10K each. Looks like its game up for Sports bike riders in the UK!!
100% agree with your navigation set up. Maps are great. I only use sat nav around cities etc. Like you, I like seeing where I am on a map, and seeing where the best looking roads are. Great vid btw, roads i recognise from not living far away from South Wales.
Great to see another solo tour series, my favourite! Just to say I also found the base camp software very difficult to use, however I find my Tom Tom Rider 550 is an absolute breeze to plan tours. Take care and looking forward to part 2!
You had me convinced you’d gone to Cinque Terre in that first photo, very nice - till I saw the bloke with his ice cream cone 2 photos later!! - Great stuff
The Nags Head mentioned at 16.30 does excellent food if you're back in the area at all. Also for a proper breakfast try the TY Creoso/Jenkins cafe in Newcastle Emlyn - their full welsh is probably the best breakfast I've ever had.
Great to see you out on tour again Andy. Blimey, £173 a night? I've done four nights in France for that - and eaten every lunchtime!! (Premiere Classe!!) You had great weather too. Bonus points for wearing a high-viz safety vest 👍🏼. Always appreciate your honesty concerning that hotel, I’m not likely to visit Wales due to the distance and that big fat ocean. Looking forward to eps. 2. Thanks again Andy 👍🏼 😎 🇺🇸 🌎
Hi, Great adventure clip. With reference to Garmin I bought the top of the range Garmin Zumo XT only to find out from their technical team that Basecamp wasn’t compatible with the device I bought! They wouldn’t even offer a timescale for the development work. I now plan routes on the device A to B, B to C and C to D etc. This work very well!
As has been said classic TMF thanks Andy, I laughed when you mentioned Richy and Simon Weir sharing a room as Bruce had mentioned it on a recent Podcast with Simon. Hope you’ve had a great summers riding so far, stay safe and look forward to seeing Carol and yourself on tour in a future video
Aswell as poring through Simon's books I've also been making my way through your back catalogue. Staggering amount of content there dude! Wow! My mates are all heading to the Alps but unfortunately I can't get that much time off, so planning to pop over for a solo trip to maybe Wales or Normandy this year.
As always Mr F, a very well presented video. Not my part of Wales but was lovely and glad you had the weather. Looking forward to the next installment 😎 thank you for your time and effort
Basecamp the main reason I went with Garmin, use it with the car and bike's GPS's, planning ahead makes more sense then jumping in/on the car/bike, pressing a magic button and hoping it all works out, plus it's half the fun of it, working out the routes in advance. The GPS can however change the route if it feels like it. I uploaded a route to Copenhagen over the Storebaelt Bridge on Basecamp, however my GPS detoured me over 300 miles and added a ferry crossing without mentioning it.
Hey Andy, We’ll you’ve given your welsh accommodation the kiss of death ☠️🤣. Great to see you out touring, looking forward to seeing so more of Wales 🏴. Cheers 🇦🇺.
Great to see you on tour again TMF and great to see the GS out 👍 Pembrokeshire is fantastic, it’s our secret Cornwall, all about the coast though so might have missed a trick not following the coastal roads a bit more which have stunning views. Good one.
I sincerely hope you didn’t miss the culinary highlight that is the New Celtic chippy in Aberaeron ! Great run from Lampeter to the coast…. In fact it’s all fab, stunning part of the UK.
Ardderchog! (Exellent!) Know many of these roads well. @ 18:30 30yrs or so ago they filmed a Timotei shampoo tv advert with a long haired blond lady washing her locks and frollocking about the mill. We were all very exited about it! :D
Super vid! You have inspired me to get out more on the R9T; in the current furnace-like heat I can't face putting the gear on and have been running around instead in my new (still only a couple of months old) lovely soul-red MX5, with the top down and aircon on full. But when the wx cools down the 9T will get a few runs, and I have ordered Simon's book through your link.
Great to see you in my home county TMF. There's a lot to see off the main routes. Lots of hidden places on the coastal roads, you will need to come back. I was born and raised in the village of Solva that you rode through great place to grow up.Looking forward to the next vid. All the best👍
Tenby is such a cool place especially beaches and walks around them. I visited it once to see a friend. One thing I immediately noticed is the whole city looked completely drunk at 8pm. Something you usually see in London at 11pm. I was a bit shocked. Man hotel prices are shocking too. Nice 20min short. If not monty it to be a bit longer with such wonderful sceneries. It is such beautiful island and with the right weather it’s a joy.
Nice surprise Mr. Flyer thank you. I use that book quite often so much so I've just bought its sister book Bikers Europe also by Simon Weir, I suggest you have a look at it. There are some epic routes I want to try.
What a great trip 👌 As you say, wonderful weather for Wales. I'm very biased & LOVE Garmin Basecamp. It's taken a wee bit of time to fully master it, but it is one of the most powerful pieces of software for tracking, routing, & sorting POI's. I have 1000's of POI's, plus routes and all my previous tracks saved in Basecamp. I can transfer these to my Garmin SatNav, my phones, my computer, and any other SatNav I have 👌 This is great, as when I'm out and about, I can see any previous track or routes of interesting roads, plus I can get notified of POI's I may wish to visit 🤗 This is all well & good, but I really am with you regarding MAPS 👍 I love the larger view you get with a map (not a teeny tiny screen), which allows you to plan better 👌 On another note, I do as you do, I usually enter major or interesting towns along my intended path. This allows me to pop into the town (cuppa, snack, petrol), or to just skip the waypoint, whereby Garmin takes me around the town to the next one... Whilst navigating like this, I use the compass feature which allows me to concentrate on the road & take in the beautiful scenery I am riding through 🤗 This also means I'm not stuck to riding the roads that the Garmin thinks I should be 😱 Keep up your excellent work regarding these videos 👌 #TravellingWizzard
I'm a fan of Wales 🏴 too. Lovely people, fantastic scenery. Two weeks ago I did Snowdonia and some of the roads TMF did with the boys in blue. Can highly recommend. 😀🏍️
Awesome, I just binged all of your Arctic Circle Tour videos and it was top notch mate. Never new you did tours (at least on the channel), so after this I'm off to binge some more haha. Thanks for putting all the great effort into these videos, cheers from NZ. PS you need to come down to New Zealand when you can and do a tour here!.

As always Mr F, a very well presented video. Not my part of Wales but was lovely and glad you had the weather. Looking forward to the next installment 😎 thank you for your time and effort
My pleasure.
Exactly my problem with relying on a GPS!
Looks fun to me! hi from Australia
Sure was!
Hey Andy, We’ll you’ve given your welsh accommodation the kiss of death ☠️🤣.
Great to see you out touring, looking forward to seeing so more of Wales 🏴.
Cheers 🇦🇺.
Yes it was very disappointing that….
Great to see you on tour again TMF and great to see the GS out 👍
Pembrokeshire is fantastic, it’s our secret Cornwall, all about the coast though so might have missed a trick not following the coastal roads a bit more which have stunning views. Good one.
Yes I might have to revisit just to do that.....
Wales is beautiful. Looks like this was a great trip.
It was! So good to be back out touring on the GS.....
I sincerely hope you didn’t miss the culinary highlight that is the New Celtic chippy in Aberaeron ! Great run from Lampeter to the coast…. In fact it’s all fab, stunning part of the UK.
Uh oh.....
Think the trucks do the job of trimming the trees 😁
Watching with interest I’m in wales next week.
170 quid a night?!!!.........Good grief!...that's daylight robbery.
At that price you'd want a happy ending.
Great to see you back on tour - most hotel prices are outrageous in the UK in these post(?)-pandemic times 🇬🇧🏍
So it seems Stewy!
Ardderchog! (Exellent!) Know many of these roads well. @ 18:30 30yrs or so ago they filmed a Timotei shampoo tv advert with a long haired blond lady washing her locks and frollocking about the mill. We were all very exited about it! :D
I can imagine.....
I’ve loved riding in this recent heatwave - once moving it’s fine (it’s the stops when you roast!)
Thank you for the ride Andy, what a lovely route you picked - I'll be sure to look for the guide book. :>)
Awesome to see GS out again Mate if you can ever get to Australia again please come and use My KTM and we will check out some of our best roads
That's very kind of you Al - riding down under is very much on the wish list for when we're free to travel again....
Beutyfull landscape Mr Flyer..
Great to see you in my home county TMF. There's a lot to see off the main routes. Lots of hidden places on the coastal roads, you will need to come back.
I was born and raised in the village of Solva that you rode through great place to grow up.Looking forward to the next vid. All the best👍
Cool!
The high viz rope, we call it the ‘dope rope’ 🤪 .. Most connect it from the disk to a lever, easier on the break if you’re using the side stand
Yes I used to do that but find just sticking it on the handlebars is equally as good as a reminder....
Big place for Hen and Stag do's 👍
Great to see you on tour again :-)
It was great to be on tour again!
Another great review. Had a Goldwing last year but much prefer my GSA for everyday stuff. Lovely roads...
Yes each bike has its place - I'm fortunate enough to be able to have both depending on the mission requirement...
Nice surprise Mr. Flyer thank you.
I use that book quite often so much so I've just bought its sister book Bikers Europe also by Simon Weir, I suggest you have a look at it. There are some epic routes I want to try.
I have that too....
I have got both of Simons books and they are really good, with lots of information on every route. Looking forward to Episode 2
He has a European Tour book out now.....
@@TheMissendenFlyer might have to get that, I guess it's in Amazon too
Suspect much higher prices in hotels is something we’re going to have to get used to maybe?
Great to see you out and about again.
Camp
Shop around? I've just stayed in North Wales..£59 b&b!
@@threepot5874 Now that's more reasonable mate.
I use tomtom for trip planning, but save the route as a gpx file, then load that into my garmin, really easy to do as well
!!!
Clever!
What a great trip 👌
As you say, wonderful weather for Wales.
I can transfer these to my Garmin SatNav, my phones, my computer, and any other SatNav I have 👌
This is great, as when I'm out and about, I can see any previous track or routes of interesting roads, plus I can get notified of POI's I may wish to visit 🤗
This is all well & good, but I really am with you regarding MAPS 👍 I love the larger view you get with a map (not a teeny tiny screen), which allows you to plan better 👌
On another note, I do as you do, I usually enter major or interesting towns along my intended path. This allows me to pop into the town (cuppa, snack, petrol), or to just skip the waypoint, whereby Garmin takes me around the town to the next one...
Whilst navigating like this, I use the compass feature which allows me to concentrate on the road & take in the beautiful scenery I am riding through 🤗 This also means I'm not stuck to riding the roads that the Garmin thinks I should be 😱
Keep up your excellent work regarding these videos 👌
#TravellingWizzard
I'm a fan of Wales 🏴 too. Lovely people, fantastic scenery. Two weeks ago I did Snowdonia and some of the roads TMF did with the boys in blue. Can highly recommend. 😀🏍️
So cool!
touring with the good old GS is back on the menu boys
Well done TMF! 👏
NZ is very much on the list!
