Did a course many years ago with a bloke who trained motorcycle police.
Best money I ever spent, id been riding for two years and thought I knew it all, turned out I knew sweet bugger all!
His position on the road approaching bends etc reduced the need for braking etc 👌
I appreciate you making a positive policing video! Cops in the states are having a pretty rough time these days so it’s nice to see a pleasant video. I’m a cop in the US and a GS rider, and have appreciated your videos for a long time. Thanks for sharing all your videos!
My pleasure Stephen!
Its your own damn fault too! Not you personally but as a body!
WOWSERS Sir.. The officers are so down to earth. Definitely prevention instead of prosicution. Thank you for this look at the boys in high vis. I have always said. They are a special bunch of lads.
Kind regards David Panda
Yes good bunch of lads....
Appreciate you putting in the hard work behind the scenes to pull this off. Fascinating stuff. Brilliant video.
Thank you Grant....
That was a great video, loved the ride and questions to the police, Great that they gave their time as well. Looking forward to part 2 .
Glad you enjoyed it - part 2 coming on Monday
What a fantastic opportunity! I really enjoyed this video and, as others will have said, I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your day with these guys.
Glad you enjoyed it - 2 more to come next Monday and the following Thursday....
Hope you enjoyed the experience and great video as always I just know there gonna be good
I sure did Alfie - fascinating day had with a nice bunch of blokes.....
Watching the police rider in front of you his road positioning is epic on every bend, and agree not much breaking!
Yes, great rider....
@@TheMissendenFlyer He braked more than I expected, and sometimes in places I'm sure he didn't need to. Maybe he was just showing you a brake light as a warning of something ahead?
@@TheMissendenFlyer This was a technique we used to practise when I worked as a motorcycle courier along with using the throttle and positioning instead of constant braking - we called it 'ro-ro' roll on - roll off. It saves on maintenence and makes for a smoother ride.
A mate of mine said not to long ago "do you use your brakes", I replied "not really!". I've always anticipated slowing and stopping well and using my gears to aid doing so efficiently, in cars as well as on bikes. Over the years you save a lot of money in fuel and brake wear.
should they break tho? if a car is behind them so they know when the biker is slowing down?
Good of you to mix it up a bit TMF. I got myself "The Police Rider's Handbook" when I was getting my license many years ago, it's well worth the money. And a suggestion for the channel: How about an interview with "Suspension and Tire Wear Magician" Dave Moss? He seems like a most decent chap.
Very enjoyable. Great to see what the world of motorcycle police looks and feels like! Those 19 minutes just flew! 🙏
Glad you enjoyed it! Another episode on Monday....
Thanks Andy. Really enjoyed that. A great insight into how these guys operate. 40 mph filtering. I'm surprised they didn't nick you there and then 🤣 still his brake lights weren't working. Ha ha. Looking forward to the next one.
Glad you enjoyed it Colin - next episode on Monday....
Excellent, informative interesting, quality content. As usual! Thank you TMF.
Thank you Allan!
I have the deepest respect for MC police all over the world! They know their roads, they know their bikes, and they are the most vulnerable when out and about on the roads. We are not always agreeing with each other on the suitable speeds on the roads, but they are decent people with a hard and dangerous workplace. Ordinary driving (in a car) beside a 24 meter truck with a disoriented driver navigating a map, drinking coffee, talking on a cellphone while steering with his knees is no way near fun, but sitting on a bike (500kg's) near a 60 ton truck under the same conditions: My hat's off to you!
Nice bit of variety. Owain's smooth riding style and road positioning were pretty damn good.
Yes great rider I thought....
Yep, but who hasn't been pulled over for doing just that? His road positioning is NOT according to the Highway Code. That is of course the excuse they use.
If you watch two police bikers riding alone (not escorting anyone), the lead rider will Apex to obtain a clearer view around a left hander, then move back to the left on right handers. They tend to ride in tandem, with the lead rider generally keeping more to the left on straight sections to allow a clearer view of the road ahead for the one following - who has the option to stagger/Apex if necessary.

Great video, really interesting, best you’ve done in ages 👍
Thank you Daryl, glad you enjoyed it (and I tend to agree if that’s not too boastful!)
Really interesting to see the positioning of the police biker...Using the whole lane for a good view. Thanks for a great video TMF!
Glad you enjoyed it
That was excellent. Very disappointed when it ended so I'm looking forward to the next one. Great work Andy, thoroughly enjoyable and informative.
Cheers Craig - episode 2 on Monday….
Blimey, takes me back to when I was a traffic cop in the 1980's. Sadly, got promoted just before I was due my motorcycle course!🥺 Great video - they do a great job. On occasions it's also not very pleasant.......................looking forward to next one. 👍
Indeed Jon - not a job for me….it’s not all fun and games I’m quite sure….tough job these guys do and my hat’s off to them….
@@TheMissendenFlyer it is indeed. Hope to be joining soon.
Hi Andy. That was a very enjoyable video, look forward to the next. And thank you for asking my question to the guys.
Thanks for the question Bob!
As a State Police officer in here in the states I love to see these Police Vids. Very cool. It’s really great that they allow you to tag along. That would be very difficult to do here stateside. Looking forward to the rest of the vids Andy. They seem like really cool guys. Awesome job as always.
Thank you Bob! - Next episode tomorrow....
Good and wholesome RUclipsrie! Thank you good Sir.
Great upload👍 Lots of effort gone into this vid which is appreciated.
My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent, informative & entertaining content once again. Why your channel is one of the best.
Aww shucks 😊
Really enjoyed this - thanks to all involved. :-)
Brilliant idea... And very kind of them to let you tag along...
Looking forward to episode 2 👍
Coming on Monday - stay tuned!
Well done for doing this -- great content and very informative!
Much appreciated!
Good show with doing this mate. I’ve always admired police bikers and how they are so fast when they need to without seeming to do any effort at all. I have also been to the same roads and places you’ve been riding through so it’s a nice ride through memory lane. Looking forward to part two.
Cheers Stephen - always good to hear from you, hope you're keeping well??
@@TheMissendenFlyer it’s nice that you remembered on my condition. Thank you very much kind sir! I’m glad to report that I’m on the mend. Going for physio tomorrow and hopefully given the clear to start riding again in a few more days. Doc says that the bones are in what they call the callus stage right now, to us it means that they’re still soft but can bear some load. Not everyone heals at the same rate of course but I’m close to five weeks now so it does look like I’m doing well. Again, thanks for asking!
@@stephenspiteri_zunkus Good news!
Nice one Andy, Kudos to you again for that informative insight.
Many thanks!
I have absolutely loved this , interesting you mention Lee not braking much by looking so far ahead , as a driving instructor I was also trained by ex police officers, we often did challenges against other trainees on who could brake the least over a 20 min period. Wales has stunning biker roads , lived on the border of Wales for many years before moving down south . Those officers are top guys , and that what very interesting in why they pull groups and making sure the inexperienced are aware of the dangers . What a fantastic video , thanks Andy , and thanks to the officers 😎👍🏼
Glad you liked it Mark - next episode tomorrow at 07:15!
That is a really excellent video which must have taken a fair bit of organising behind the scenes. Many thanks Andy. I have mates here in Aus who are police officers and they have mentioned the unofficial ‘attitude’ test they use when pulling people over. Basically, if you are polite and admit when you’re in the wrong, then they will go easy on you and the opposite applies when you’re not! These guys seem to have a similar manner about them. We should all bear in mind some of the awful scenes they have to attend to sometimes and , when you need their help, they are the men and women who step up. Congratulations for making the effort to help us all see that.
My pleasure Rob - and I couldn't agree with you more....
I'd been looking forward to this since I saw you were out with them on Instagram. Great stuff. Let's all remember they are there to reduce the body count on our roads and be respectful if pulled for being a loon. Thanks Andy.
My pleasure Oli!
Welcome to our playground Andy, can't wait to see the next installments!!! 👍
Stay tuned Steve!
Very much enjoyed watching this video, sir! Looking forward to the 2nd half.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Looked like a nice day out with the good guys. Look forward to episode two. Cheers.
It was!
What a great video, looking forward to future episodes!
Coming on Monday - stay tuned!
That copper was riding a nice line around them corners, good positioning, you should have followed him mr flyer 😀! I am also guilty, I must also try harder.
Thanks for the tip
No he wasn't. No he shouldn't. Cop was spending most of his time in: 1 & 3, whereas he should have been doing: 2-3, 3-2, 2-1, 1-2. As far as I could tell, Andy was riding correctly: 2-3, 3-2, 2-1, 1-2.
@@moderatefkr6666 I though Ted Rogers died, good to see you're still around 😁
BTW the copper was riding to give himself maximum view ahead, not to get around the bends the fastest way possible. In an emergency he would have been on the opposite side of the road where safe, to see even further around left hand bends.
It's perfectly legal to do as long as done safely, and of course you move back over as soon as you see oncoming traffic. Traffic and junctions would also impact the position he decides to use.
Halfdead Rider You should probably read @Moderate Fkr’s comment again more carefully. He’s correct. The 1-3 swapping is the issue. He was neglecting 2. Emergency riding doesn’t come into the question here.
@@G58 you should read my comment again you clearly did not understand it! Also watch part two, the coppers clarified exactly what I said.
Good to see you over the border again, and you brought rain with you…. ! Thoroughly enjoyed my career with NWP, seeing you pushing that car…. Does bring a wry smile to my face… been there, done that. Hope you enjoyed your time up here.
Yeah we had a great day - learned a lot!
Great video of my old home town. Left over 30 years ago and still recognise the roads. I don't know about motor bikes up the Horse Shoe Pass, I used to cycle it on my bike.
Really good to watch that police rider carving so smoothly through the corners using the outside of the bends to maximise his view - so controlled and straight out of road craft!
Yes great rider agreed….
Great insight to the way the police look at bikers. Nice to hear they are more into educating rather than straight prosecution. Can't wait for the next episode.
Coming tomorrow Gary!
Very good vid TMF (slanted horizon excepted :)) - look forward to the next installment.
Not a single white van in your way when you were out with the rozzers, Andy.
Seems like you need to ride with coppers more often :)
That’s because the coppers are using the white vans to hide in as they stake out in lay-bys waiting for unsuspecting speeding GS pilots .
I loved watching this. My partner and I have ridden the Horseshoe Pass and eaten lunch at the Ponderosa. Talked to friendly bikers and had an absolute blast on the North Wales roads. We’ve been lucky enough to bring our bikes from Australia to the U.K. and Europe several times. Let’s hope we can come over again soon.
Traffic cops in the U.K. are very reasonable and much more likely to give the benefit of the doubt if you’re not riding like an absolute drop-kick. You can get a speeding ticket for 3km over the limit - on a country road! - in Australia.
Love your videos! I watch them for the lovey scenery as well as the bikes.
Cheers, Dave
Thanks Dave - come back soon!
I live in Derby and was up Cat & Fiddle this Sunday. The pub is reopen all. It was rammed this weekend.
Nice to see cops pushing vehicles out of the way. See so many just leave a car blocking the road, even if there's a layby near.
I have had quite a few interactions with the Police over the years ranging from playing their teams in the snooker league to having a burglary at my place and witnessing several RTA's. I have always found them to be likeable guys who only get serious when the occasion demands. Great video Andy, looking forward to the sequel(s)?
Yep two more to come - next Monday and Thursday....
The poacher is taking a tour of the estate with the gamekeeper. 😁
😆😆😆👍
Fantastic video best I've watched in a long time really interested to see behind the scenes of the biker cops, can't wait for more 👍
Coming soon!
@@TheMissendenFlyer it's also intresting to see if the northern Ireland police work the same way is that a question you Could ask?
You know you've made it when you're making a video with the plod, great stuff Mr Flyer!
Years ago North Wales police did me for a dark visor on a really bright scorching summer's day. Absolutely unnecessary, they were pulling every bike and looking for anything they could ticket, small plates, loud cans, coloured lights, fast blinking indicators. The copper that pulled me told me "It's because we don't want you in North Wales". Charming. Always avoided the place since.
Oh dear, a shame that as you're missing out on some great riding....

Great video Andy and what an experience riding with the cops. Went to the Ponderosa cafe a few weeks ago, some fantastic roads around there. Looking forward to the next installment. 👍🏍🚔🚓🏁
Cheers John - stay tuned!
Cracking vid TMF I have my bike safe course with these guys in Llay next month. Looking forward to the next vid. Cheers Andy
Nice one Chris!
Feeling guilty - I had a brilliant day on a Bikesafe course with Staffordshire police and the guys were really good, I rode quite a bit with a cop behind me and it is a little strange but the cop was so nice that towards the end of the day I was over it. I have been riding all my life bar a gap when my kids were small and I really enjoyed the Bikesafe course and still learnt something.
Yes I did BikeSafe with the Met police - great fun....
Used to ride A5104 a lot. Thanks for reminder😊
We had six police bikes in training following us one day. Was nervous the whole time and always checking my speed. Crazy I could tell they werein training and not interested in us.😎👍this is good stuff, the police need our support right now!
Agreed - I don't know why they get so much flack for doing a tough job that we all need them to do....
Not that is a good You Tube title 😀 Heading to work, but looking forward to watching this on the big telly! EDIT: Couldn't wait, watched on my phone during morning ablutions! Great video! Can't wait for the next.
Great video Mr Flyer! 👍 it’s good to see the work the biker cops do!
Thanks 👍
Looks like a great experience, I'm looking forward to see who paid for brunch 😀. The cops seem to be good guys. Although I'd still rather avoid them, 😆
Well no need to avoid them unless you’re being naughty of course!
Bring back the 90’s 😉
Quite right, they are there to do a job and none wants to have to scrape people up after acting like prats.
I live in N Wales now, I retired here, so welcome! Good vid Andy, it's good to humanise the Police, most of them are just doing their job, it's a public service and I get that because I was a Nurse all my working life, regularly dealt with the Police too in that role. Had my run ins with them on my bikes when I was younger, I felt hard done by at the time but looking back I was an idiot, got banned for it too, wiser and older now I tend not to attract their attention too much, mainly because I am no longer the idiot I was! Looking forward to part 2.
Nice one Chris - next episode on Monday....0715am!
Great vid - looking forward to part 2!
Glad you enjoyed it - next episode on Monday
Great video, very interesting.

Brilliant insight to how biker Police work......looking forward to the next parts.........stay safe.......thanks for sharing
My pleasure!
Great vid and different to the norm, keep em coming!
Will do - thanks…
Great video. Look forward to the next part(s).
Coming on Monday Jeff!
I know those roads well - I was out at the Ponderosa and beyond just last week. Great roads and fairly policed in my experience. North Wales police have had a pretty bad rep in the motorcycle press over the years, but I've never had a single issue with them. Great video and a good insight into what they're actually like. Looking forward to future eps.
Cheers Chris!
Good work, Chief! 🏴
Thank you kindly
Nice to see you on my local roads!! You should have said you were coming!!
Hi Andy, I'm an IAM Chief Observer and have been working with Greater Manchester Police delivering Bike Safe courses for years but I still get a bit nervous when I'm out riding with them. In my case it's usually because I know that I won't hear the last of it if I cock up!
As for not showing a brake light "it just depends" (my favourite phrase) if you are in a responsive gear then you should be able to modulate your speed just using acceleration sense. As a rule of thumb consider a "responsive gear" to be one that puts you into the middle third of the available rev range i.e. if your red line is at 9k then ride in a gear that puts you in the 3k - 6k range. Only once you are cruising at a steady speed should you be clicking up into higher gears for economy. Too many riders ride in too high a gear, this means that they have to brake (or worse start down shifting) as they have no engine braking. The reason I said it just depends is because sometimes we actuate the brake light to give information even when we don't need to apply the brakes.
Great advice - thanks Chris...
That was cool & informative . 😎 👍👍Thx 4 the ride TMF
Although left driving POV still gives me anxiety af 😬😬😂😂😂
Thanks for watching! Left is right!!
Thanks Andy. Really good video and interesting to hear what they look out for when they see bikers and what makes them suspicious.
something different and interesting .. Thanks for upload
Thanks for watching and for stopping by!
Great to see familiar Welsh roads again. Recognised many of them. Noticed the wet roads, shower clouds and sunny bits - typical! I'm itching to get back there one day if and when we can get this bug under control and we are allowed to fly again. Thanks.
Yes Wales is a bikers paradise! ….even in the wet!
@@TheMissendenFlyer It's the place that I found a love for motorbikes when in the seventies I could no longer afford the petrol and rust repairs to run a car. Bought a little Honda bike. She did 70mpg, sailed up hills, didn't complain and I got wet. All the time. But once hooked...
Just did that ride today, great video 👍 thanks
Nice....
Excellent stuff. Look forward to the nxt one ...

Great video, very interesting topic. You need to update to a more recent version of Road Craft and should take a bit of training with IAM Roadsmart/ROSPA perhaps, that would be a very interesting series of videos :-)
Yeah let’s see him getting his green badge, what a great series that would be and what a valuable resource to the biking community
May the force be with you lol, another interesting video. You should do a paramedic video and road rescue video next.
Good vid mate, good run upto the Pondy
Good insight into the way the police think, it should definitely help some riders avoid a pull.
The filtering question was cheekily sent in by Royal Jordanian! ;-)
I can already hear the nuda

Great video thanks Andy, and those Welsh roads look great.
They are!
Great video, thanks for posting. Local meeting point is the cafe. Well worth a stop at the weekends as there is classic cars and bikes. The raven cafe just 30 mins away is well worth a visit on a thursday evening, gets about 400 bikes on a nice evening!
Sounds cool!
I work with and around the police regularly. You get over the feeling you've done something wrong pretty quick when everyone has a purpose for being where they are. Unfortunately, I live in the US and we get a mixed bag of good and bad officers. It doesn't take long to figure out which one you're working with in any situation. A couple of them I just pack up and move along because they aren't worth wasting time trying to get what I need out of them. Others will bend over backward to be helpful, they are a real pleasure to be on the side of the road with things go sideways on you.
Another very interesting video Andy , chose you over Netflix again , you put great effort into these productions . Keep them coming .
Thank you James - very kind of you to say so!
Hot news, apparently BMW motorcycles are quite tired and worn after 45k miles, there's hope for Triumph!!!!
I think on the used market a BMW with over 45k is un sellable.
Was about to leave from London on a5 heading for the ponderosa then your film popped up...how weird is that lol great film cheers
Keep safe - excellent advice.
Useful, I'm of on a weeks holiday in North Wales Starting Sunday.
Good Vid; Nice scenes... love those country roads
Me too…
One thing I must admit from the experience in the U.K. the motorbike police in particular are really friendly and understanding chaps. I highly encourage to enrol with their Bike Safe course. I’ve done several of them and only at one occasion I thought “mmmm it was not really fun” but this was due to one extremely strict police lady (!) biker.
Great video interesting what the boys had to say cheers Andy 🚔👍🏍
Glad you enjoyed it
When we were riding our 125s at 17/18, we got stopped a few times - always better to be stopped by a bike cop, they'd give you sound advice without being patronising and we all respected them. Great lads, doing a good job.
Very true....
This must have taken some organising, both from you and the Police. Thanks to all concerned, good stuff.......
