Two takeaways from this great session: I like how your swing thoughts are simple and consistent each time you're on the tee. You don't replay the last shot and tell yourself "I gotta adjust this" or "Don't do that". Secondly, you keep calm and accept the outcome of each shot without overcoaching yourself. I've had the tendency to do that, so I'm gonna work on staying in the moment.

I'm 55 overweight truck driver that just started playing golf about 18 months ago. I bought a really good set of sim 2 max os iorns from 4 / A wedge and i added a 54° and 60° and a old Wilson 64°
R 15. Driver and 3 wood and a 4 hybrid. Wish I would have found your channel sooner. I can crush my iorns and wedges and keep them as you say , on the grass. My driver, 3 and hybrid are hit and mostly miss. After seeing your videos, the big clubs are coming out of the bag. I started out shooting in the 120's. My last 5 rounds I have not lost ball. And just that brought me into the mid 90's . Really looking forward to some warm weather and going iorns only. Thanks

Here's my only swing thought now. Not joking: "Turn right, turn left, hit it right in the middle of the f-ing fairway. It's that easy, dude." Forces me to relax and hit an easy shot -- right down the middle of the f-ing fairfway.

Man, you are so SPOT ON! I love your videos. They are simple, and not too technical (99% of us are just average golfers). These are great tips. I have the reputation in our league of bombing my tee shots. I am always hitting 8-9 irons when other members are hitting 6-7 irons. However, I have been in really bad positions after these shots! I'm trying to club down, and go from 90% swing effort to 75% swing efforts, in order to keep the ball in play more. That 7-iron into the green on that last hole was absolutely what I'm talking about! Thanks for this great video! I'd love to see more like these (live play).

This is very good basic advice. You don't have to hit the ball a long way to score well, especially with hole lengths like in this video. If the course is almost 7,000 yards or more, play shorter tees unless you can hit the ball along ways off the tee VERY ACCURATELY. Or be willing to have second shots that are sometimes short of the green. Practice your short game and you can still score well with a short shot and one putt. Especially on a course like this with trees in close on every hole accuracy is way more important than distance to avoid blow up holes that destroy your score.

For those golfers that are getting older (ancient) like me, I found a ball that may help your game. Its the new Bridgestone e9 ball that is a distance ball but actually goes straight. The ball does go a club long for me so practice your lag putts with it because you will hit more greens instead of being short & chipping. Give it a try.

I like that you have a process and stick to it. Are you able to tune out distractions? As in helping your fellow competitor hunt for his lost ball, or super slow groups in front? One thing I try to do is follow the advice of psychologist Bob Rotella, who makes the point that the subconscious brain has trouble hearing the word "don't." So when faced with water or OB on one side of the fairway I tell myself "hit it in the fairway" rather than "don't hit it in the water."

Jack im sorry this doesn't apply to you. Proud of you for still playing at 78. Enjoy every round.

Sure it applies to him ( and all of us). Just know your distances and choose the appropriate club.

Doesn't help me, cos I'm off scratch, i need birdies, but I'm gonna share this with lots of friends who are off double digits, as it's very well explained on how to eliminate so many bad holes.

I don't get it. If the pin's at the front, you want to be putting. You take a club that will land pin high. If it hops forward, no problem. If you don't catch it as well as you hoped, you're probably still on the front and putting, BUT, if you take a club that's going to be short of the flag, and DON'T hit it perfectly, you're chipping when there was NO reason to be chipping, not with plenty of green available behind the pin. (hence holes #1 and #2, both short) I also think that it might be better to be 'quietly aggressive' than 70% and easy. Just my take.

First step, dont HIT the ball. Swing the club and let the ball get in the way.
