This is very helpful. I had no idea you could turn the base that easily. I had been procrastinating on changing my front struts because I was afraid, or not sure how to properly align the base plate on top.

no one talks about the "orientation" of the tophat just that there are markers yet there is no discussion on how to know which way it should be before installing it. It's so frustrating!

Wow, was replacing my struts and was having this exact issue of the bolts not lining up. Had no idea I could rotate the top, I thought the parts would just be rotated like the originals

Thank You! No, Seriously. I just came out of a hot panic because my bolts were not lining up. I even rushed out and spent $300(got that receipt) on a new set, thinking the first were an incorrect order ship. The pry bar was enough to turn the cap on stiff new struts. Crisis averted!

For a 2017 honda civic what torque do the front struts (3 Flange nuts) have to be?
I didnt check the clock position befor I put the strut in now what should I do?
Can you rotate rear ones too ?
