At some point George + blackface became the association, and everyone in the Best Friends fanbase thought it was so funny that we started parroting it like the idiots we are.
Unfortunately, the joke only lands if you already know that George is a good guy who would never do something like wear blackface, and that the Best Friends have a tendency to engage in ridiculous slander for fun. To everyone else, it looks like a bizarre and pointless act of character assassination at best, and a really ugly rumour at worst.
