I feel like you can look at the totality of Dilbert as an excellent, real time example of how money and success will turn you into a complete asshole. Dilbert started as a comic strip about how out-of-touch and incompetent corporate leadership (the Pointy Haired Boss) often is when compared to the base level workers doing the actual heavy lifting (Dilbert). But over time, as his comic found success, Scott Adams became less of a Dilbert and more of a Pointy Haired Boss himself, and the comic's focus shifted accordingly. I feel like this is pretty much the natural endpoint of that progression, so this is hardly surprising to me.
You can point to a noticeable trend in the comic of the Cone Head CEO shifting from a farcical parody of "Big Brain Business" to just an example of it. I haven't read it in years on years, but I almost fear looking in and seeing what Catbert is now
I think the point about losing touch with your origins is fair, Dilbert has definitely changed in tone over the years. But it's worth pointing out that Scott Adams never actually worked as an engineer. He worked at as a bank teller first and moved up to bank manager, and then took a management role at Pacific Bell later on, which is where he got his inspiration for the comic. Also, Scott Adams has been a crazy asshole for at least a decade and probably a lot longer. Back in 2011 he made some... let's say "bizarre" comments about sexual assault, and when he inevitably caught flak for it, he used fake social media accounts to try and make it look like he had support in his views. And that's just one example.

there is a thing that happens very often where a creator outgrows editors at the same time they stop having any of the problems normal people have. it's a real nasty 1-2 punch of they don't have a filter anymore, and also they are suddenly much less relatable. Heinlein is one of the ur-examples; in his early work there's a little right wing stuff you can easily brush off, and then his later work is a lot of the reason we associate 'libertarian' with 'thinks society is too down on pedophilia.' when your life suddenly lacks the experiences that define everyone else's, all you're left with are your personal pet peeves about society as a source of conflict, and shit gets WEIRD.
You almost have to admire how long he's held a grudge against The Blacks for UPN canceling his show... But I just have to ask... Why didn't any of the "White" networks want to carry your show, Scott?
it was well known, and for comic strip standards it was pretty high on the pecking order (one-ish tier below peanuts and kalvin and hobbs). It wasnt exactly a cultural phenomenon though.
You can look up The Dilbert Principle right now, which is someone gets promoted to the level they are incompetent at which based on a joke from the strip.
At the time, without the internet expansion in the early 2000s with webcomics, Sunday Comics were still up there. Besides The Boondocks, that's about it for now.
As a (quite long ago) former Dilbert fan, it really has been a trip to see the slow AND rapid descent of the comic and its creator into the Dumbass Hole. There were always signs that Adams wasn't the smartest man in the room who believed he was (his books attempt to paint mindless and obvious actions as clever and witty,) but never to the extreme of the last 6 years. Politics and social media have both sapped his intelligence and bolstered his ego to a frightening degree. Not that it quite matters, as Dilbert as a product fell off right around the time the tie disappeared and was replaced with the id lanyard That fucking lanyard, IT'S TO BLAME!
It’s a shame because the Dilbert animated show is really good. Dead-on casting, great writing. Didn’t just stick to cubicles but still managed to work.
Maybe chat was screaming it at them, idk, but I’m a little disappointed they weren’t informed that one of the first things Kanye did during his initial _Ye_-rollout MAGA career derailment was post a bunch of videos of Scott Adams talking to his Twitter feed.
@@EmptyDisc1 Paige has been helping Pat keep up a diet, and he’s been steadily losing weight since he moved anyways. im sad Woolie didn't see the single black character in Dilbert was added only to make a transphobic job but new papers are black and white and he didn't grey tone his skin so it just looks like they're claiming some white guy is the black hire
I think one of the weirder Scott Adams anecdotes is that time he tried to get into food by producing a microwave burrito he described as "the blue jeans of food"
that actually makes perfect sense. i don't know why he thought HE was capable of making it, if anything microwave burritos have always been that. no wait, Hot Pockets are the blue jeans of food.
I was listening to this segment while at work, and, not being someone who makes great efforts to keep up with the news, i had no context for this story, and kept waiting for Woolie to explain what it was that this Scott Adams actually said. (I eventually found out by reading the comments here, no need to go into further detail.) It's nice that Woolie got to have a good laugh, but as a member of the audience, I kinda felt left out of the joke when there's barely any context.
The line, if anyone is curious to know what was said within the context it was said, was in relation to a poll about the phrase "White lives matter". The poll showed that I think it was something like 60 or 70% of black americans disagreed with that phrase. From this information Mr. Adams took that 60-70% of black people didn't think the lives of white americans mattered. And as a result he stated that white people should avoid black people because black people didn't care about the lives of white people. I'm not sure if he's a moron, an out of touch boomer, or an intentionally dense race baiter. Whatever the case, its very weird.
This is the first vid I've seen with the "puyo!" and the first one legit jump scared me. The guy's shared his ridiculous views before, but THIS was next level.
Okay but woolie going on about the tie is really fascinating because it did secretly mean something and it meant that Dilbert is a virgin. NO JOKE There is a comic book I read when younger that had color commentary from the creator, and commentary on when Dilbert had a girlfriend that if Dilbert scored he would let people know by straightening Dilbert's tie. Since as far as I know the Tie has stayed pointed up and Dilbert is still a Virgin.
To me the funniest thing about Scott Adams is that the biggest Dilbert ever been in modern day is the Cboyardee videos that have nothing to do with Scott at all.
I think I became aware of Scott Adams being a nutcase around 2015-2016. Can't decide whether it's funny or sad how much worse he's gotten. It finally catching up to him is pretty funny, though.
I think I became aware of Scott Adams beyond "the guy who made Dilbert" when he first showed up on the Rubin Report. Which yeah, he was clearly conservative, but he also sounded a fuck of a lot more normal back then. He sounded like a conservative from the William F. Buckley era (so basically normal conservatism in my country, which is the ruling party here for pretty understandable reasons), not stuff now.
I’m more shocked that I forgot Scott Adams wasn’t completely canceled after his last controversy; when he added a black character, literally spouted as a diversity hire for the company, that then turned around to say he identified as a white man… kinda surprised no one’s brought that up since then
It's unintentionally hilarious:he forgot that weekday comic strips don't run with color, so the black guy saying he identifies as white is rendered as white. the intended joke is a weird pile of miscellaneous bigotries, the presented product appeared to be the boss saying 'we've decided this white guy is black for pr purposes,' which is... you could go somewhere with that? he was hoping he'd get canceled but instead he just got a '...well, that was a weird one. Wonder if they'll ever go back to it' at best.
The only reason I already knew about Scott Adams being a weirdo is because of some clips that went around a few years ago where we talked about how Trump was actually a secret genius and a master communicator. He's been going off the deep end for quite a while but most people didn't know because, seriously, who keeps tabs on the guy who makes Dilbert?
Yeah the Dilbert creator has been on something wild for a while now, he had this whole twitter thread where he basically admitted to letting his stepson die
Well I'm just glad Woolie has finally learned about his inherent criminality, and why he seeks to pilfer pies from an unsuspecting public. Thank god he learned about it now before he commits any other heinous acts upon an innocent and harmless white population, or attempt to ruin the pure virginal chastity of his wonderful caucasian wife. His inner black rage knows no bounds!
Is there a single person on this planet who actually likes Dilbert or can confidently say that they’re a fan of the comic strips? It’s one thing to hate a cartoon character like Calliou or Johnny Test but does Dilbert actually inspire any emotions out of any single person on this planet outside of pure indifference? And what does that say about it’s creator?
The fact that it was real popular back in the 90's with merch and a cartoon adaptation should answer your question well enough. I personally was never into Dilbert that much but I did enjoy stuff like Calvin and Hobbes and Dilbert was around the same level of cultural awareness in the 90's and 00's.
I liked it when I was a teen in the early 2000s because it reinforced my insufferable self-image of being "smarter than my peers" because I read science books and used big words and didn't like sports. I was basically Berdly between the ages of, like, 11 and 16.
I absolutely feel like CSB should have a big "Heroes lost to racist tirades" counter for every time a creator tanks their own brand by 'going off' in public. It probably wouldn't tick up very often, but when it does it'd be funny.
On the birthday thing if your country uses Day Month Year it's doubly unfortunate since you were also born on April Fools day. Pro tip: Write out the month instead whenever possible since it gets rid of ambiguity between date formats, *and* you don't write out that hate code if you were born on the 1st of April 1988 or January 4th 1988.
no idea if it's true but i saw a thing on twitter claiming that some of scott adams' loved ones noticed he went way more off the rails after undergoing brain surgery. could be some kind of phineas gage situation where he lost functioning in the part of his brain that made him not racist
My first introduction to Scott Adams was fairly recent. I have a family friend that listens to their morning podcast and when I was over at their house one day I heard them listening to him. This was before I knew anything about his political beliefs or past actions. I just knew him as Dilbert guy. Anyways, I remember it clearly because there was just something about his tone of voice that really made me feel weird. I don't know how to describe it but his tone just screams "I know everything and no one can correct me. If they do than they're wrong". So I really really wasn't surprised when the news broke out and him double-triple downing on his comments.
highly recommend people listen to chapo trap house talking about scott adams. they've done it a few times over the years that I'm not even surprised, like this isnt even going into how adams called trump a "master wizard" lol

Me: listening to this discussion with headphones on and suddenly looking around frantically thinking Kirby has invaded apartment!
A huge blow to Dilheads around the globe
With how Scott Adams has been acting for YEARS, I’m just surprised that he’s being kicked off now
You almost have to admire how long he's held a grudge against The Blacks for UPN canceling his show...
But I just have to ask... Why didn't any of the "White" networks want to carry your show, Scott?
Question from a zoomer: was Dilbert really 'that' big in the 90's?
it was well known, and for comic strip standards it was pretty high on the pecking order (one-ish tier below peanuts and kalvin and hobbs). It wasnt exactly a cultural phenomenon though.
Being a snarky but barely-competent asshole in a dystopian corporate workplace? Yes.
You can look up The Dilbert Principle right now, which is someone gets promoted to the level they are incompetent at which based on a joke from the strip.
it had a short lived show and was a big news paper comic that was everywhere. the tv show was a adult comedy. so not that big but is funny sometimes.
At the time, without the internet expansion in the early 2000s with webcomics, Sunday Comics were still up there. Besides The Boondocks, that's about it for now.
The Kirby "Poyo!" is definitely the best edit.
Knew Woolie was gonna be eating well when this happened
As a (quite long ago) former Dilbert fan, it really has been a trip to see the slow AND rapid descent of the comic and its creator into the Dumbass Hole. There were always signs that Adams wasn't the smartest man in the room who believed he was (his books attempt to paint mindless and obvious actions as clever and witty,) but never to the extreme of the last 6 years. Politics and social media have both sapped his intelligence and bolstered his ego to a frightening degree. Not that it quite matters, as Dilbert as a product fell off right around the time the tie disappeared and was replaced with the id lanyard
That fucking lanyard, IT'S TO BLAME!
Woolie vs racism just makes him stronger
Ya'll don't know how insane Scott Adams is. He is Dunning-Krueger incarnate.
The worst part is, he’s a mensa member. He’s part of an society literally exclusive to people with high IQ’s and he still ended up like this anyway
This is just another step in Dilbert Guy's journey to becoming the next Ben Garrison
Which is even funnier because I'm pretty sure Scott and Ben Garrison actually had some sort of Internet Slapfight a little while before this moment.
Scott will NEVER be on the same level as Ben Garrison, no matter how much THEY edit his comics.
Let the Dilbert cum edits begin
Still not as crazy as Scott's "I'm glad my son died" thread
Pardon?
Ayo Ougi pfp, also, what?
Wait IIRC he said he's happy his kid didn't take anyone with him when he died.
Lack of context STRIKES AGAIN. Thanks for nothing, "davis Grubb."
@@zachataxxii7126 Man really said Battle Royale is the only way to stop school shootings
It’s a shame because the Dilbert animated show is really good. Dead-on casting, great writing. Didn’t just stick to cubicles but still managed to work.
Despite popular belief, you can separate the art from the artist
@@TheSergio1021 In this case it's easy because I'm pretty sure Scott only produced the show, other people wrote it.
@@TheSergio1021 Also the show is what? 20 years old at this point?
It also concluded with an mpreg arc that involved Stone Cold Steve Austin playing himself. It's way better than it sounds.
Well, Pat really went as far away as possible of Woolie as he could
Good for him, honestly.
I loved Pat's face at the start like "Oh God. Where is he going with this?"
Maybe chat was screaming it at them, idk, but I’m a little disappointed they weren’t informed that one of the first things Kanye did during his initial _Ye_-rollout MAGA career derailment was post a bunch of videos of Scott Adams talking to his Twitter feed.
Woolie looking GOOD lately.
Honestly warms my heart to see these guys both looking healthy and happy. Inspiration to do the same y'know.
Punch Dad and Angry Dad living their best lives right now
@@EmptyDisc1 Paige has been helping Pat keep up a diet, and he’s been steadily losing weight since he moved anyways. Woolie may be putting on some weight, but I think it’s a little understandable since the guy found out he’s diabetic not too long ago, can make it harder to lose weight when the chemicals are a bit off
@@EmptyDisc1 I've watched these guys since I was like fucking 12. I'm 27. The fact they look better now then they did 5 years ago or really ever makes me happy! The fact Woolie is struggling with health but is looking healthier every day makes me happy.
Your an asshole.
Just when you think Scott couldn't go any lower. He finds a way.
im sad Woolie didn't see the single black character in Dilbert was added only to make a transphobic job
but new papers are black and white and he didn't grey tone his skin
so it just looks like they're claiming some white guy is the black hire
8:05 what’s funny about that is it would be so easy to make dilbert comics without him
We gotta save Bazooka Joe while we can.
The "POYO!" is perfect.
Please keep it like this.
Don't forget he lives in a Dilbert shaped house
I think one of the weirder Scott Adams anecdotes is that time he tried to get into food by producing a microwave burrito he described as "the blue jeans of food"
that actually makes perfect sense. i don't know why he thought HE was capable of making it, if anything microwave burritos have always been that. no wait, Hot Pockets are the blue jeans of food.
@@miguelnewmexico8641 I feel hot pockets are more like that t-shirt you buy that you got for cheap that’s falling apart from day one
Dilbert with the Hard R
I'm just glad that Ziggy was never ruined like this.
oh Ziggy is much worse, but he's too powerful.
in 2022 Scott did have a redemption arc, praising vaccination efforts (which alienated his right wing audience). And now he swung back in
That's not a redemption arc, that's a stopped clock being right.
These two leaving out context and jumping to conclusions seems to be more of a feature than a bug at this point.
Dogbert biteing someone at the Civil rights movement would be a great edit
This is the first vid I've seen with the "puyo!" and the first one legit jump scared me.
The guy's shared his ridiculous views before, but THIS was next level.
Please keep the "poyo" censor, it's amazing.
I got hit with the Poyo censor for the first time in this video and i thought i was losing my mind
Okay but woolie going on about the tie is really fascinating because it did secretly mean something and it meant that Dilbert is a virgin.
NO JOKE
There is a comic book I read when younger that had color commentary from the creator, and commentary on when Dilbert had a girlfriend that if Dilbert scored he would let people know by straightening Dilbert's tie.
Woolie be like "I've been a Dilbert fan my whole life."
I love how the comic that he made the day that he made these comments was about pronouns because of course it was
Oh, Woolie, don't get it confused. Adams probably has nothing against you, *YOU'RE ONE OF THE GOOD ONES* .
Yeah the Dilbert creator has been on something wild for a while now, he had this whole twitter thread where he basically admitted to letting his stepson die
How did that happen?
So THAT'S why Pat moved to British Columbia.
To be around Asians?
"We lost another one, we lost Dilbert!"
How will we ever go on?
kirby working overtime
@@MattManDX1 Okay but what about NOW?
I mean this isn’t the first time he’s done a racist, he went on a tirade blaming the urban for the failure of his comic
The Poyo is perfect
"aw fuck, we removed his racism inhibitors by accident"
"[WARNING. N-WORD CIRCUITS ENGAGED AT FULL THROTTLE. NO REFUGE.]"
I haven’t even heard the bit yet and title is making me howl laughing
My first introduction to Scott Adams was fairly recent. I have a family friend that listens to their morning podcast and when I was over at their house one day I heard them listening to him. This was before I knew anything about his political beliefs or past actions. I just knew him as Dilbert guy. Anyways, I remember it clearly because there was just something about his tone of voice that really made me feel weird. I don't know how to describe it but his tone just screams "I know everything and no one can correct me. If they do than they're wrong". So I really really wasn't surprised when the news broke out and him double-triple downing on his comments.
All I know about Dilbert was the famous catch phrase "Which came first? Ranch or Cool Ranch?"
highly recommend people listen to chapo trap house talking about scott adams. they've done it a few times over the years that I'm not even surprised, like this isnt even going into how adams called trump a "master wizard" lol
Who is chapo trap house?
@Dracobyte it's a political comedy podcast. they have a youtube channel where they post clips and there's a video called "Scott Adam's World" that was recorded in 2017. another fun fact, during the development of disco elysium robert kurvitz approached them to do some voices for his game since he's a fan of their podcast.
Woolie does need to get away tho. Punch mom was already on trial.
To this day the most enjoyment I have gotten out of Dilbert is still the Family Guy gag making a joke about how unfunny it is. Also, the POYO is perfect. Keep it.
Que sadness and sorrow
This needs to end with Bill Watterson fighting Dilbert Dude on a roof somewhere.
Only Dilbert I knew of was a clip of a dog spreading misinformation because it’s fun
Man, it must be bad if Scott Adams' wackiness has been heard about in Canada XD
Okay so the censor noise is actively more annoying but at least it's no longer a jump scare
Poyo is the one. You find your bleep!
To prove Woollie is right, Fox Kids aired the Dilbert cartoon in Latin America late at night. Sadly both the original audio and the official dub is lost media.
Some wild shit goes on in the world of newspaper comics that the geriatrics have to relay to the rest of the world.
Have you thought of adding different "Poyo"s depending on the tone and intensity of the swear?
