How beautiful Byrd sounds on the piano!
Sokolov´s tremendous rhythm, his special articulation and touch are very amazing. The whole performance is so convincing not overdoing the dynamics and he imitates, intentionally or not the clavicembalo and sometimes it sounds like that...lovely!
    Sokolov, intelligent piano playing...tastefully!!

Byrd was a very pianistic composer - long before the piano was invented. Great on modern instruments.

No problem in translating Byrd to a modern instrument. In fact it does something for his music. There´s a spark of something "modern".

The initial parts (2:55 to 3:20, for instance) sound very delightfully Mixolydian to my ears (or Raaga Khamaj to an Indian classical musician).

@darkblueangel1956 He actually knows and understands pretty much more than you about Byrd, and surely about rhinos! Audacious and delightful rendering! as always...

would love to get my hands on the recording: any details? Love Russian pianists. People say Russians are cold I disagree: slow burning but intense passion. They are the most dramatic pianists.

@darkblueangel1956 Ahahahah!
