    Gould is a fine pianist that played Bach in a very special way, breaking a lot of rules, and giving a new taste of Bach, more contemporary, more accessible. But when you hear this pianist, you can feel a deep feeling of Bach, the essense of his music, the precision is not a virtue in Bach, but the purity of the sound. This is a great interpretation of Sokolov

      Yes, BWV 904 is a real jewel among his keyboard compositions. Nothing in the two books of his "Wohltemperierte Klavier" is as well written as this. And we know that almost all what Bach wrote is pure gold.

  • @denizgoktas116
    @denizgoktas116 3 года назад

    I see a lot of you talking about Sokolov (rightly so, that it is a really good interpretation and performance) however fugue of this piece is one of my favorite Bach moments. It is not the most complicated fugue Bach ever wrote or anything but it is so peculiar and bizarre compared to usual Bach fugues where the descending second theme got introduced (starts around 6.15), these are the lines that one can see a clear path from Bach to second Viennese school.

  • @FunkBach

    perhaps rhythmic precision. When Glenn Gould's recordings of the Goldberg Variations appeared in the 1950s, the rhythmic attention was something new. But today many pianists play with good attention to rhythm, and Glenn Gould is not THAT special anymore...

  • @etruscie
    @etruscie 7 лет назад

    What a treat to hear Bach being performed in the romanticized manner that pianists before Glen Gould performed Bach. Bach wrote works such as these for the harpsichord (there were no concert grands in Bach's time) and such an instrument restricts the emotional range and subtlety that the modern piano can produce but it does have an almost digital precision that the modern piano lacks. Glen Gould made the modern piano sound more like the harpsichord. Personally, with Bach, I prefer the harpsichord.
