    Blessed are we to have to the opportunity to listen to Gregory Lipmanovich Sokolov play his wonderful interpretation of Bach’s incredible music. It surely has to be the next best thing to hearing Bach himself playing his own music. Something the World will never again hear, alas those precious notes have fallen silent, but Bach lives on.

    The Big Question here for me is - How does he do it? (!)
    How can ANY Human Being - limited as we are - do what Grigory Sokolov does wth a piano?
    When I think of the Top Tier of pianists in the world I do not include Grigory Sokolov. In my mind, there is Grigory Sokolov, and then there is Everybody Else. He is truly in a Class by himself.

    A l'évidence, G. Sokolov est le plus grand pianiste vivant à ce jour. Cet artiste est phénoménal et aussi impénétrable. J'ai assisté à deux concerts de lui (La Chaux-de-Fonds, Suisse): on sort complètement médusé et emporté par un talent totalement exceptionnel. Aucune faille dans ses exécutions, un art total, une maîtrise totale ! Merci Monsieur Sokolov !

      M.. Sokolov est certes un pianiste *exceptionnel*. Toutefois comment établir une "hiérarchie" entre ces grands artistes ? Nos impressions sont tellement subjectives... Mme Argerich est tout aussi éblouissante. Et il y en a quelques autres.

    • @lockjiang
      @lockjiang 6 лет назад +3

      je crois qu'il y a quelque critères ici quand on defint un grand pianist, et le repertoir est un de ceci. et pianist comme Argerich, Zimerman ont repertoire trop limité et lesquelles ils sont superbe et térriblement limité et malheuresement prévisible. à mon humble avis, ils sont médiocre excepté lesquelles ils jouent plus souvent.

      Alex Reik Thank you for you comment and of course you are completely entitled to your beliefs, but personally I can’t see how genius and creativity can be brought about if we just sprang up like fish out if water with no intelligent being involved. As DNA demonstrates, their is a very intelligent being that is responsible for this. Something doesn’t come from nothing. Just my belief. Thanks for reading.

      Watch videos which show him at the piano playing Mozart or earlier -- there used to be a vid of him playing thru a movt of Bach's Italian Concerto just informally, not in a concert. You learn a lot by watching his hands. But ultimately I think the secret is his intense musicality--ornaments are always fresh and different, never routine.

    Sokolov ist spieltechnisch über jeden Zweifel erhaben. Das Lob in einem Kommentar über die technische Qualität dieser Aufnahme kann ich jedoch nicht nachvollziehen. Diese ist eher mittelmäßig. Zum Wichtigsten, der Interpretation: Es gibt tolle Momente (z.B. Beginn der Fuge bei 2:20), aber insgesamt will bei mir der Funke nicht so richtig überspringen. So phantastisch Sokolov´s Aufnahmen z.B. von Rameau-Stücken sind, so eher uneinheitlich wirkt er auf mich bei Bach. Es ist ein ständiges Schwanken zwischen Romantik (z.B. Ende des Interludiums ab 7:00) und Barock (ebenfalls Beginn der Fuge, s.o.) . Das mag auf Andere abwechslungsreich wirken, auf mich -wie erwähnt- eher uneinheitlich und unentschlossen. Der gern gezogene Vergleich mit Gould erschließt sich mir auch nicht. Bei Gould ist Bach ein eigener Kosmos, unvergleichlich mit allen anderen Pianisten. Dies kann man gut oder weniger gut finden, unbeeindruckt lässt es einen auf keinen Fall. Bei Sokolov wirken Bach-Interpretationen auf mich nicht wie aus einem Guss, sondern eher schwankend und unentschlossen. Aber es gibt natürlich sehr viele schlechtere!
