Enjoying watching your wall mount videos. I have had a Liftmaster 3800 for many years on my main shop door. Decided to install an opener for the back door which is also a high lift. After watching your video compareing the 8500 and the Genie, I was leaning towards the Genie. While shopping I came across a smoking hot deal on the Chamberlain RJO70. Just stumbled upon your channel when looking at these 2 units. Glad they’re identical. Seems the better choice is the chamberlain.
It’s $75-$80 cheaper, can be picked up locally as well, where as liftmaster cannot.
The only difference is the opener button and remote. Not sure it justifies $80 though.
What are your thoughts? Also, during installs like these, do most contractors reuse the eyes, and wiring from a standard overhead opener? Or are they different.

Chamberlain/LiftMaster is making a big mistake putting the cheap wall mount and remote in the Chamberlain kit. In the past the traditional style openers with battery backup came with the high end wall control and remotes. They are playing a game commonly found on other products where a single manufacturer produces products that are basically identical under the decals and sell them at different prices. The people who wanted the "upscale" brand name had to pay a significantly higher price that really couldn't be justified in terms of performance. With the older openers Chamberlain didn't cheapen the top end Chamberlain models to create that price difference, but now they have basically shafted the DIY'ers by using the low end controls and remotes. If the DYI'er wants the better parts, he will effectively be paying more than the LiftMaster "premium" brand product since he will have to pay full retail for those accessories. Btw the wall mount units cost them less to build and ship than the old traditional units, and yet they put a premium price on the wall mount. I won't fall for their game, and when it comes time to convert to a wall mount unit it won't be from Chamberlain/LiftMaster. It's not really about the money, for me it's about not wanting to reward companies for playing these games.

I got the RJO70 through Lowes who installed it through a third party about a year ago now and I absolutely hate it. It's overengineered nonsense.
On my particular unit I have immense trouble with it being overly sensitive to travel force. I've been trying to DIY diagnose this but there's no adjustment screws and the automated learning it attempts to do doesn't seem to work well. After going through the process of relearning, it still reports and error and will not close correctly, so often find myself fighting with it until I can trick it into closing. All of the YT research I've done keeps talking about cleaning the obstacle sensors but that's NEVER been the issue. The motors internal force sensors are far too sensitive and change with each season. I notice in cold weather it tends to work better.
The MyQ app is absolute garbage as well, if the door fails in some way, it will not allow you to open/close the door again, some kind of soft lock feature in the app. The error reporting merely states 'Issue Reported: Contact a Dealer' - with no other information, thus its fundamentally designed to force you to call out a service tech rather than give you the info you need to diagnose your own problem. It's no surprise to me that all of the Chamberlain videos on YT have comments disabled, I'll bet there's a sea of people who are frustrated with this tech.
The direct drive is a great idea and I'm sure I'll make it work somehow but its been a very painful process.
