What a beauty. When upgrading wheels on a classic car it's always nice to see the use of a same-period style like this instead of something modern.
Hi Jack F, Happy to read "What a beauty" :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Que elegante se ve este Chrysler 300K Convertible en rojo obscuro de 1964! Como bien lo resumiste mientras estabas paseando: "Es clásico, confortable, se ve bien y es poderoso". ¡Excelente video Lou, y saludos cordiales!
Hi Jaime, Happy to share this "classic, comfortable" car with you :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Lou - another fine example of an American muscle car.
I enjoyed how John articulated the backstory of this 1964 Chrysler 300K automobile. 😊
Looking forward to the next one!
Exactly.... The 300's started the hp war, way back in the 50's, when they used their 300 hp rating to name their high performance, banker's, hot rod. BTW, if you look at what Chrysler did with the Polara, 300, Belvedere, and Fury, for track or strip use, they beat Pontiac's GTO to the punch by three years: compare the wheelbase, length, and engines. Chrysler crammed a 413, max wedge, with cross ram induction, into those cars and smoked GTO's on the strip. It's kind of sad Chrysler missed that marketing chance. DeLorean didn't create the first muscle car, by any stretch of anyone's imagination, he just marketed that concept.
Robert, Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) Lou
Wow, a 1964 Banker's Hot Rod Convertible!😀A great Mopar restoration job by John. Thanks for posting this video, Lou.
Hi Ray, Happy to receive a "Wow" from you :-) You're welcome, Lou
Very rare Mopar indeed! These cars you don't see everyday! Nice 300 K convertible! It looks like it has leather interior, which is in mint condition. The 413 engine sounds healthy, and the exterior color looks great! This car was made the year I was born so it's as old as I am! Another nice one Lou!
Hi Michael, Happy to read you appreciate the rarity of seeing this car today. Thank you for viewing, sharing, and nice to read you and this car have the same birth year, Lou
Thanks for featuring another iconic Letter Car, Lou. Love the color combo on John's K! Interesting that the K was the first Letter Car that had a 120 mph speedo, as compared to the '55-'63 Letter Cars that were fitted with 150 mph speedos. Also, the '64 300-K TorqueFlite cars had console-mounted shift levers, while all other '64 Chrysler TorqueFlites still had pushbuttons - the final year Chrysler Corp cars had this feature. Pushbuttons were found on all PowerFlite and TorqueFlite transmission Chryslers - Letter Cars and otherwise - from '56-'63.
Hi Noel, Always a treat to have you share a comment. My pleasure sharing with you. Lou
Again, if I won the lottery I wouldn't be buying hemi cars, I'd be collecting ever year of 300 and is definitely hunt this one down
Hi Hal 1000, Hope your number come up in sequence soon, Lou
Rare car, and very hard to find the trim pieces that help distinguish it from a regular 300 Sport. I love the letter cars! This has the std HP 413 4bbl with the cross ram being the only option for the 1st time. Dual quad engines were std fair up to this point. Interestingly enough, the cross ram was only rated 20 more hp...Those in the know say it was closer to an honest 400hp (gross) with torque in the 480 lb ft range.

Gorgeous Chrysler in a great color ! Thanks for posting Lou !
Hi Rudy, Happy to read "Gorgeous" :-) You're welcome, Lou
Another nice one, Lou! I've always been fond of the letter cars, and after all of Mr. Plosila's restoration efforts, we can all see & enjoy why. Thanks, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, Happy to read this is a "nice one" :-) My pleasure sharing this car with you. You're welcome, Lou
Lou, I comment on most of your cars. Sometimes I comment that someone in my past (or even myself) had similar cars to the ones that you find. Once again, my father had this car. His was a 63 Newport with a 318 four barrel and a hardtop and push button transmission, in dark Chrysler Green. My dad had some really nice cars, just like what you always feature. He loved Chrysler! Nice work sir.
Hi Ron, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Fathers car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Great color and beautiful car! What fun it would it be to drive
Hi Brock, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) I agree, I think it would be a fun one to drive, Lou
Thanks to John for rebuilding the 64 K Convertible. These are being rare, seldom seen on the road nowadays.
The 63/64 Orphan years were definitely a style that can grow on you. No way this would be confused for a GM or Ford.
I appreciate the stock appearance and long term ownership.
The 1964 300 Sport Series has cool stainless & aluminum side trim that hints to the coolness of a 1957 Chev Belair. The Letter car was more understated with pin striping. Only the second year for the 727 torqflite to have a Park gear !!
Congratulations
Great car to feature
Hi Fred, Happy to read the details you notice with this car :-) My pleasure sharing this car with you, Lou
These early to mid 60's Chryslers remind me of the Beverly Hillbillies show. Chrysler provided the vehicles for the show, so there was always a beautiful example pulling up in front of the mansion. Pretty sure "Miss Jane" drove one just like this one. The Magnum 500 wheels are a definite improvement.
Hi Steve, Thank you for viewing and sharing. Lou
That front end looks so similar to the Valiant, export versions, sent to Canada, Mexico, South Africa, Australia, Argentina, Brazil. A front end only a mother could love :) but nevertheless beautifull car.
Thank you to Mr. Plosila for keeping her well and to you Lou for introducing her to us, very enjoyable.👍
Hi Kenan, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
I agree with the owner's decision to upgrade the 14" wheels. Wheels and tires were almost always undersized before the 1990s, and I would guess it was a cost savings measure from the factories. Every time I see a great car with pathetic little rubber feet it makes me wince. If it requires brake and suspension upgrades then do it. Put a rear sway bar on it and upsize the front bar. These mods are well worth the expense, and screw the "originality" of poor driving characteristics.
Thanks for viewing and sharing.
The upgraded rims were great idea. Look fantastic. The car looks both classy and sporty at the same time. A great combination.
Hi Sabba_Dabba, Happy to read you enjoy the rims :-) Lou
My uncle had a 1963 300 convertible. I remember that it really would move with the 413 engine.
Hi Dave, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Uncles car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Love the sound of a Chrysler starter turning over
Nice :-)
I’ve heard the starter sound referred to as “The Highland Park Hummingbird”. Highland Park was the home of Chrysler Corporation.
Great find, Lou! Reminds me of my old '65 Galaxie convertible...
Hi Stuart, My pleasure sharing this car with you. Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Magnum 500's look great on that car! First time I've seen them on a 300 of that vintage! Nice car John!
Hi Luke, Thanks for sharing you enjoy this "Nice car" :-) Lou
Super cool ride looks like oil man mr.brewsters car on the Beverly hillbillies.
Hi Damx go pak, Happy to read "Super cool ride" :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou

Thanks Lou..
My first new car was a 1964 300K convertible - Chesapeake Blue.
Hi Jerry, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your 1st new car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
@@loucostabile I went from a 1960 2-stroke, 3 cylinder SAAB I bought for $200 to the Chrysler.
That must have been a heck of an upgrade from the Saab!
In addition to being a fine actor, I didn't know William Brimley was a gear head too.
Thank you for sharing.
Nice 64 Chrysler products were excellent vehicles.
Hi Gary, High praise :-) Lou
What a nice 300K - spectacular restoration!
Thanks Lou!
Hi Jeff, Happy to read you appreciate the condition of this car :-) My pleasure sharing with you, and thank you for your support. You're welcome, Lou
GOOD EVENING. From Venezuela, VERY IMPRESSIVE CHRYSLER 300K CONVERTIBLE. Mr. Lou, Thank you very much for showing us this GREAT CONVERTIBLE. Mr. Lou. Thanks for taking us along for a ride. As always an EXCELLENT AUTOMOBILE VIDEO
Hi Alejandro, Happy to read "VERY IMPRESIVE" car :-) My pleasure sharing with you. You're welcome, Lou
The original Chrysler "K" car very cool to see a trip meter on the odometer for 1964 !
Hi Brian, My pleasure sharing this car with you :-) Lou
Another great Mopar you showcased. You never disappoint us Lou. A co-worker of my Dad years ago bought a brand new 64 New Yorker. I remember it well. Same 413 engine.
Hi Brad, Happy to read "Another great Mopar" :-) Glad to read this car brings back memories of Dads Co-Workers car. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
This Letter Car gets an "A" in my book! Thanks Lou!
NICE! You're welcome Brian SD!
Nice!!!
:-)
Nice car. Like the interior and dash. Nice hood view to.
Happy to read the details you enjoy :-)
Thanks, Lou and John. This is a nice car, and I wasn't expecting to ever see a video on one of them. My first car was a '64 New Yorker and John's car is similar enough to remind me of that. My car had the 413 too and hearing John's car is making me recall the same wonderful sounds from the engine and transmission. I'd forgotten how heavy-duty those sounds are, they're industrial like. Nice! Chrysler was such a significant company, it's a shame what's happened to them.
Hi discerningmind, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your 1st car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
John has one sweet ride, Thank you Lou for the share.
Hi Chris, Happy to read you enjoy this "sweet ride" :-) You're welcome, Lou
Great! car story! Good show! For a Mopar, this 1964 Chrysler 300K is one of the rarest models, that I've ever seen so far, on the RUclips channel. It really has style and lots of horsepower, especially with it's 413, under the hood. In fact I've heard a lot about the regular Chrysler 300 series, but not like this Nascar model version. Only 1200 of those were produced. However, the body looks somewhat like the Plymouth Valiant, or even the Dodge Dart of the same time era, for that matter. Thanks! again Lou, for this other utterly beautiful presentation, of your car story, wishing you and your family a very happy Holidays Season. Johnny, Montreal, Canada ❤️
Hi Johnny, Happy to read you appreciate the rarity of this car :-) My pleasure sharing this car with you. You're welcome, Lou
@@loucostabile you bet...!
I had a black 59 Imperial 4dr sedan with a 413 VWedge Engine. The most powerful car I have ever owned boughjt from a farm in Silvis Illinois 52 years ago. Paid $100.00 sold for $150.00 pushbutton Trans on the dash Great Classics
Hi Magnetron33, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
@@loucostabile Thank you for an interesting show
The 300K is a car you do not hear about often, nor see often. This is a historical piece in car history, a fine example here.... and a healthy 413! Thank you John for sharing some of the car's history, and thank you Lou for the great interview.

Great car, John, and this "bankers hot rod" I doubt Mr. Drysdale had one this nice . : )
Nice feature guys on a real beauty Chrysler with all best stuff. Thank you and thanks Lou 👍
Mr Drysdale drove a spectacular Imperial.
Hi Bruce H, Happy to read you enjoy this "great car" :-) My pleasure sharing with you. You're welcome, Lou
That was like coitus interruptus.
Hi Tom, Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Beautiful car, beautiful red. I always liked the 1963-'64 Chrysler. They were Virgil Exner's final designs for the marque. John is right about 14" wheels. They started appearing on the 1957 models to lower the cars' profile, and almost immediately took over the industry. By the mid '60s, they made cars look over-bodied and ridiculous. Oldsmobile especially.
Hi Tom, Happy to read "Beautiful car, beautiful red" :-) Lou
Thanks, Lou !....Another beautiful early Mopar. Please thank Mr. Plosila for sharing his beautiful cruiser with us. The 413 has a nice "lope" at idle and will get that big car onto the highway in a hurry. Be well and Happy Thanksgiving !!
You're welcome Charlie ! Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving too. Lou
@@loucostabile I forgot to mention, the idea of the larger tires (more sidewall) and rims (15") definitely add to the ride on such a large beauty, not to mention better handling. Stay well !
Years ago, my dad had the New Yorker version of this car ( essentially the same but not optioned out like the letter card). For a heavy car, these cars were very fast with a lot of tourque. Most had the 413 engine which you can’t kill. The cross ram was a rare option even on the letter cars. The weakness of the 64 was the electronic starters; my dad would be busting his knuckles in the middle of winter every few years replacing his. I believe his term for it was “pig”. They say you either love or hate this year; for myself, I really love them! They were known as “the bankers hot rods” as they were not an inexpensive car (dad got his from a bank auction a few years old for $700 bucks…still a lot of money in 1967). Thx Lou!
Hi David, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Dads car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
It must be very difficult to be incognito in a car that is torrid in RED! Would this be considered Chrysler's very first "K" car? :) I bet that "K" goes like "H"! Great owner and video! Thanks!
Hi Jeffrey, I enjoyed reading your comments :-) You're welcome, Lou
Goodday Lou,
What a beautiful cruiser of a Chrysler.
The banker's muscle car & those Magnum 500 really set it apart nicely.
Great job from John for being such a great caretaker.

Nice car. Looks like a Dodge in the front. Thanks Lou.
Hi Lennart, Happy to read "Nice car" :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing what you notice. You're welcome, Lou
Chrysler was first with this cross grille design on the ‘60 300-F and continued it on the 300s for several years. It started appearing on Chrysler’s Dodge Division vehicles several years later.
Beautiful 64 Chrysler 300! Those Magnum 500 wheels look great on her! Color is killer! Thanks Lou for the fine video as always. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours
Hi Edmund, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car with the "killer" color :-) Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, and you're welcome, Lou
💕👌 ĺove it

This was my first new car, in Chesapeake Blue.
Thanks Lou.
Hi Jerry, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your 1st new car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
That looks great from the side and from the rear. Those modern wheels are what was needed for further crowning this design.
That's a great interior. There's nothing like a sporty white leather set-up, even if a vaccuum guage substituted a tachometer.
Air cleaners without silncers should have been mandatory for all banker's hotrods.
The reason as to why more covertibles have survived may have been because sub-idiots considered them unsafe for their sub-idiotic demolition derby abuse, being that Chryslers were favored above all othe brands for such moronic events. If only convertibles would have been allowed for derbys, the national average intelligence score would have greatly increased
Hi Al Dente, Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Great job Lou! Looks good from every angle, convertible, fantastic burble, and a very pleasant owner.
Hi kiddycat17, Happy to read you enjoy the looks and Caretaker of this car :-) Lou
Classic-car owners should doll up in clothes of each car's "birth year". This would add to the aura, and they could likely afford it! Even thrift shops might provide some nuggets.😃
Hi Arne, Fun idea :-) Lou
Thanks for sharing, it is great that you have this car featured as Nick's garage youtube has a 413 cross ram he is rebuilding. My Grand Parents had a 63 361 cu in Newport 2 barrel.

Wow! you could teach math off that low idle! Suggestion: you need to do about a 20 or 30 minute compilation video off the BEST idles and revs from past videos.
Hi Beast 1624, Happy to read you enjoy the sounds from this car :-) Best idles, that would be an interesting video. Thanks for sharing. Lou
Reving up that engine, sounds real mean! Another grand review ! BTW, thanks for the download of the first video, it was great ! Keep it up!

You're right Mike...classy :-)
Nice car burning up the pavement and the tires yea
Hi Larry, Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) Lou
Back when the lug nuts on Chryslers screwed on backwards on one side of the car in order to prevent the nuts from loosening if they weren’t tight enough. I thought about that when you commented about how smooth it was. Chrysler was very thorough about details back then.
Hi Bruce, Thank you for sharing, Lou
A beauty here Lou. WE had a mystery man down the street when we were growing who had one of these in light brown with white roof who would interrupt our road hockey games every day. A real boss car with the oval steering wheel. Thanks for bringing us these cars. Stock rocks!!

Thanks, Lou! Carlisle looks like my area,,TOO MANY STINKIN' TOWNHOUSES!!!!
You're welcome roysmemorylane.
For me, the mid '60's Mopars look a little wonky until after I am around one for awhile and get used to it. Then I realize that's it's charm.
The fuel door kind of looks a lot like a Chevy emblem though. Maybe a saboteur spy from GM helped design that?
Big difference in cars from automakers building man made dream automobiles then to building computer design/study group people mover appliances now.

Do believe I heard solid lifters.... sounds great
Both the 360 hp single quad and 380 hp dual quad ram 413 Ks had hydraulic lifters.
@@noelhastalis6785 I know for a fact that the dual quad cars had solid lifters and believe the 360hp did too....lower hp cars were hydraulic
Hi John, Happy to read this car sounds great :-) Lou
John, You are correct on the ram cars - engines ran solid lifters. The single quad engines, like John's in this video, ran hydraulics. Thanks for correcting me!
