    On "My Car Story" we're in the Suburbs of Phoenix AZ on 10-10-20.
    We're looking at a 1964 Plymouth Savoy 2 Door in White Paint. The car comes with the factory 426 CI V8 “Street Wedge” engine which produces 365 HP.
    The car's Owner is Ed Winkler. Ed’s had this car since 2017. He shares this car was owned by a Mom who asked her son what kind of car she should get? Well the young son saw the motor in this one and suggested this was a fine choice for mom. Sadly the mom passed and the family stored the car for 35+ years. This car is all original, and the car has just over 53,000 original miles.
    ENJOY!

    The 426 Street Wedge was available in late 64 and all of 65 . The motor was rated at 365 HP . A lot of highway patrols used the 426 . it was a dog up to 50 or 60 mph where a good 383 could stay with it . Because of the additional cubic inches it had a great top end .The motors performance was hindered by the low riser intake which allowed the air cleaner to clear the hood . i owned a 1965 Coronet 500 4 speed with this engine . Also of note Plymouth never had a 348 c. u. motor , it would of had to be a 361 or 383

      @kevinsnyder4425 3 года назад

      I noticed he said 348 also ... must of been thinking about a chevy ! 318,361,383,426,440 ! Mopars ! Mopar or no car !

      Yes, like the lucky 16 yr old , I was the same age when we ordered a Brand new 64 Dodge Polara 500 with the 426 Wedge and the 4-sp Manual trans...Of note it arrived the same week that JFK was assassinated in Nov, 1963!,,,

    Very nice car. The 426 street wedge was a good muscle car that didn't get more recognition because it wasn't exclusively available in a specific performance model as was the case with the GTO. I have a '64 Polara 500 that was originally a 426 street wedge/4 speed, but had already been given a Max Wedge transplant before I got it when I was 18 in the mid seventies. Ever since then it's been a legal NHRA stock eliminator car with a 426 Max Wedge (and its 4 speed since 1994 after running it for 20 years with a torqueflite). After being away for 48 years, I now also have the aluminum front end 13.5:1 compression 426 Max Wedge '63 Plymouth Savoy that my dad bought new in 1963. It is immaculate, thanks to care from my dad and its subsequent owners/collectors before I bought it back over 6 years ago. All but 7 years of my life has been spent with these cars. I'll never get tired of them.

    This car is beautiful. My first car was a ‘64 Belvedere, 318, 4 Dr, white w red interior. The dash and instrumentation was identical to this specimen. I remember having the identical factory shop manual and sales brochure.
    This gives me vivid 55- year flashbacks. Of all the cars I've owned (including a Superbird) my heart aches to drive that Belvedere again.

    Hi, Lou! This body style was sold as a standard-size Plymouth in Savoy, Belvedere and Fury series in '64, then was held over for one more year but was sold as an intermediate carrying the Belvedere name, with the Fury name handed up to the revived big Plymouth, while the Savoy name was retired. The story of "The Son from Pasadena" makes for quite an amusing anecdote! I'll say this for him, he did exactly what the brochure told him: "Get up and go Plymouth"! LOL!
    Thanks for another fun ride with you and Ed! Keep 'em coming!

    Back in 64, my dad tried to find ANY Plymouth with the 426 street wedge and 4 speed. Couldn't find 1 in the Chicagoland area. He settled on a white on black 64 Sport Fury 383 4 speed, his 1st brand new car . That car was updated with a Isky cam, headers, Hurst shifter, 3.91 rear gears and power tuned by Mr Norm himself at Grand Spaulding (sp) on a chassis dyno, where a hemi spec dual point distributor was also installed in 1966. With a 10 inch slick, the car ran low 13s at 112+ at US 30 dragstrip. He had the car until 1976, when Il. rust finally claimed it. Of the early B's, the 64 is my fav styling wise. Nice to finally see 1!

    I like this car! I got to drive a 64 Fury in 1972. A friend, I worked with bought a new Chrysler and needed to get both cars home, so we went to the dealership to pick up the Chrysler and I drove his Plymouth home for him. I enjoyed the drive. In styling this one definitely beat Chevrolet that year. It was competitive with Ford.

    I love these cars. They were terrors on the street and track back in the day.This one looks so innocent and unassuming. I bet it suprised a few Fords and Chevys in its day. My late friend had a 64 Fury with the four speed and the 426 Hemi, cross fire. His was dark blue with the Cragar SS. Big slicks in the back and little tires up front and headers that sounded glorious when uncorked. :) I don't know where the car went after he passed as I was just about 12 or 13 at the time but I pray it ended up in good hands. Wow Lou what a great unit and owner here. I loved the 1964 Plymouth line. When I was a kid we had a 1964 Plymouth Sport Fury Station Wagon. It was a awesome car had it for years it had the extra bumper guards and had the red white and blue badge on the sides. It was a 318 and watching you both work the push button drive and park handle so reminded me of our old 1964 Plymouth. It worked Just like that did. He has a true treasure here I loved that plain Jane powerhouse and especially it was a automatic which I really liked. It was a great show piece and piece of automotive history. Really a great ride along and I so enjoyed the engine sound. Just a fun video Lou I really enjoyed this one a lot. As always Lou thanks for sharing with us!!!

    A lot of those holes in the trunk area are not for lightening as much as they are for holding specfic parts in the jigs for stamping process so they don't move in cut out and bending shaping process, and condensation ventilation for entrapment areas in channels.

    Theres a 64 Polara max wedge in my area. I think there is a sticker on the glass, which has trailering instructions for the carrier that delivered it new to the dealer. The owner also displays the window sticker. IIRC, it states that since its not for street use, there is no factory warranty. Maybe they were all this way, but Its a heater delete car, too. All of the factory lightweights from that era are super cool!
