On “My Car Story” we're in Rosemont IL at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals on 11-19-21.
We’re looking at a 1971 Plymouth Cuda in Plum Crazy Purple Paint. The car features a 426 CI V8 “Hemi” engine, with a 4 Speed manual transmission.
The car's Owner is Dave Suruk. Dave’s had this car since 2016. Dave shares he’s always been a Hemi Car Fan, and this one was just too good to pass up. This car looks showroom new. The car also has a factory Dictaphone for recording your voice and putting your thoughts on cassette tapes.

ENJOY! Авто/Мото
I believe the '71 is the holy grail ! This is my absolute favorite of all time and always has been since I was a kid . My high school sweet heart's Dad had one and yes , we did it on the hood of the car ! 😋 Thank you for bringing back some great memories !
HI Sparky the Detroit Doggo, Happy to read the 1971 is the "Hemi Grail" for you :-) You're welcome, Lou
I rode in a Hemi Challenger once with the 4-10 pack and aside from being held back in the seat I'll never forget the tire noises that the car would make when he'd start to pour on the fuel. I've never heard tires make noises like that before. There's so much power you're just flirting with traction trying to put it all to the ground. Tire punishment noises extraordinaire.
Hi Justin Case, Sounds FUN! Thanks for sharing your experience, Lou
That is a perfectly optioned Cuda. Couldn't be any better.
High praise :-)
a buddy had a new '70 Cuda & it really hauled. One night at a house party he 'disappeared' for over an hour. I found the Cuda's windows really steamed up & moaning comin from inside. He went from the '13 second man' (1/4 mile) & I nicknamed him 'the hour & 20 min. man' after that.
Hi Wayne, Thanks for sharing the hour & 20 minute man story, Lou
The two of them are great classics.
Happy to read you enjoy the pair :-)
I vote for Dave’s ‘71 Cuda. The cheese grater grill sold me.
Nice :-)
71 has the ultimate look!
Hi Matthew, Happy to read you enjoy the design of this car :-) Lou
Epic! A '70 Hemi 'Cuda and a '71 Hemi 'Cuda... It's like a birthday gift:-)
Nice x 2 :-)
I remember the commercial for these with the guys mom calling it a Bacaruda with a Casanova recorder.
Hi mrabrasive51, Happy to read this car brings back memories of that commercial :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing. Hope you see many cars on this Channel you enjoy! Please Subscribe, and hit the "bell" so you can see all the cars when they are uploaded on this RUclips Channel, Lou
I'm here to see my car in the background ...
Great Show, Great People .. Thank you for bringing this to the world
Ahhh the Yellow Charger :-) NICE!
Goodday Lou,
Finally get some time on my own to enjoy the things I like doing & like you say
" Straight off the bat " , youtube & watch Lou's Channel.
What a great interview with Dave, he seems like a top guy love how he gives it to the Chevy & Ford guys with the block of cheese through the front grill whilst you tell me your sad story.
The best line
" HEMI PULLING STRONG ", that is a bumper sticker if I ever heard one.
Back to the Cuda. 1971 Hemi Cuda, 4 speed, Dana 60.
Many consider the ultimate American Muscle Car back in the day. Who am I to argue absolutely stunning & also fantastic that Dave restored this treasure from a lonely life in the barn for all of us to enjoy.
Can't decide between the 71 & the 70, like splitting hairs so both Cuda's get my vote.
Your number 1 Fan in Australia
Louis Kats from Melbourne Australia ☺ 👍 ❤
Goodday Louis, Win / Win on the Cuda's :-) Glad you're my # 1 Fan in Australia, Lou
This show must be a lot of fun, hearing all that talking and laughter in the background. Love this cuda. There was one just like it in my neighborhood when I was a kid, but it was a convertible. My jaw would always drop when seeing it go by. Thanks, Lou!
Hi Sabba_Dabba, Happy to read you "Love this cuda" :-) Glad to read this one brings back memories of the convertible in your neighborhood you remember. You're welcome, Lou
A 71 Hemi 'Cuda in that interesting purple! If I understand correctly, Dodge called it Plum Crazy, but since this is a Plymouth, it's called In Violet here. That Hemi sounds ready for some 4 speed gear bangin action!
Hi Michael, Thanks for sharing what you like, Lou
I've been working on a 71 Cuda since 2009. Mine was originally a 340 but didn't have it's original motor when I bought it. Once finished it'll be a 426 Hemi and 4 speed. Got the engine and trans already. Major sheet metal repairs are on going because of salt damage. Switching paint to purple from original B-5 blue also. Building it my way. Couldn't afforded a real deal R code car.
Hi Sgt York, Hope your comes out exactly as you like it, Lou
I had the pleasure to do all the metal work on this car. Nice to see a video of it.❤️🏁
Something about purple is eye catching, but I like the black 1970 as much.
Hi Stewart, Happy to read you did the metal work on this car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing and I believe you're going to see many more cars on this Channel you'll enjoy. Hope you Subscribe, and hit the "bell" so you can see all the cars when they are uploaded on this RUclips Channel, Lou
Great! Thanks
personally, I'm goin '70! Any E-body-Wins!! Happy T-day, Lou!!
Hi Pappy Mc, Happy Thanksgiving, and thank you for picking which car you prefer :-) Lou
Any HEMI is Great. Any HEMI Cuda is Great but I'm leaning toward the 70. Thnx for sharing Lou.
Hi Felix, Happy to read you're leaning toward the 1970 :-) You're welcome, Lou
The plum crazy 71 gets my vote, but the black one is cool also.! ANY hemi cuda gets my vote !! Way back, I remember how popular that plum crazy was. I worked at an automotive paint store & we mixed a lot of that color for customers. ! Mopar or no car. Thanks Lou ,and thanks to Dave also. !
Hi Kevin, Happy to read this plum crazy car gets your vote :-) You're welcome, Lou
Very correct restoration. I like the gills on the fenders. The dictaphone is an interesting option. I like the black shaker. I knew the 70's were silver. I would be tempted to paint it white. By slimmest of margins, I'll take the 70, but would love to have either in my garage. Thanks for the treat Lou.
Hi Greg, Happy to read the details you enjoy. Black gets your pick today :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
As always, Mr. Lou, another great episode. The Chevy guys whining remark was hilarious, I enjoyed that. But, old Bowties still rule!
HI Donald, Happy to read you enjoy this episode :-) Lou
Always liked the 71 Cuda grill the best. That 8 track with dictation was probably a really expensive option. Rare Cuda great video as always Lou
Hi PlymouthDuster225, Happy to read you enjoy this car with the rare options :-) Appreciate the kind words on this video :-) Lou
I'm sketching a 71 Hemi cuda and a 69 Camaro ZL1 427 for my GM. I'm liking the plum crazy purple I'm Canadian 🇨🇦 plum crazy purple is beautiful
Hi Fun n Run 33, Happy to read you appreciate this car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing and I believe you're going to see many more cars on this Channel you'll enjoy. Hope you Subscribe, and hit the "bell" so you can see all the cars when they are uploaded on this RUclips Channel, Lou
A beautiful pair of 'Cudas, as a former owner of a Chally RT440, I vote for the '71 as I liked the restyled look. Both are sweet.
Hi Chris, One vote for 71 :-) Glad you enjoy them both, Lou
Those fender grills🤤, purple color and everything is just so beautiful! Only thing it's missing is a Hemi patch over rear quarter panels..and it will be one flawless Hemi...Guy is rich with ""Humor"" no doubt!🤣
Oh, and his name is ""Saruk"" ..you might wanna check on it! Thank you Lou for redirecting me to this awesome video!
Hi Ckryse S, Happy to make it a Hemi good day with you :-) Lou
I like all cuda's!!! 👍😎😎😎
Cudas = Winners
My favorite car of all time. Thank you for this Beautiful machine
Hi Darth Tater, Happy to read this is your Favorite :-) You're welcome, Lou
plum purple looks awesome. Top notch video once again Lou.
HI Keith, Happy to read you enjoy this video and car :-) Lou
The cheese grater joke was funny, would ya like a little cheese with that whine? Crazy option of the dictaphone!!! I really prefer the look of the 1970 'Cuda, but the '71 had some cool features like the fender gills and the grill detail. The four-eye is a unique look, heck it doesn't matter which year, it's a Hemi 'Cuda with a 4 speed manual, I'd take either one!!! Thanks again Lou!!!!
Hi Hobiemarty, I like that joke too :-) Win / Win :-) You're welcome, Lou
Beautiful Ride ! Another dream car Lou ! If you find a Cuda Hemi Ragtop it’s rare ! These cars are wicked fast ! Thanks again Lou
Hi Larry, Happy to share this "dream car" with you :-) You're welcome, Lou
Hi Lou! How are you doing? Thank you, for one more masterpiece video! I love this flying purple hypnotic car! You know, I like sports cars, and especially this one!
Hi Aelita, Doing well when I'm around cars. Happy to read you enjoy this purple car :-) Lou
I like both 'Cudas in today's Happy Hour, but purple has always been my favorite color!
Win / Win (Edge to the Purple one)
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family, Lou as well as my fellow subscribers
Hi Sabba_Dabba, Happy Thanksgiving to you too, Lou
that has to be the only Hemi with that Cassete and Microphone setup that is crazy!!! holy
The good ol' days!
Here is one more :-) ruclips.net/video/vTPKy-TM_Bs/видео.html
Spectacular hemi Cuda - wow!
Thanks for entertaining video guys on a holy grail Mopar. Love it!
Hi Bruce H., Happy to read you enjoy this "Hemi Grail" :-) Lou

Super nice cuda. Love the purple
Hi acts2210, Thank you for viewing & sharing, Lou
Beautiful Beautiful Car
High praise :-)
I absolutely love them both but if I had to make a very difficult choice...it would be the 71' but just by a very narrow margin.
Hi Bill, Thank you for sharing the 1971 would be your choice, Lou
Another incredible car! Thanks LOU!
Hi John, Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
Thanks Lou, great cars!
You're welcome Floyd T.
Thanks for this gorgeous car! But I think you remember that I'm a buick GS guy and that green one in the background was gorgeous! From what I could see. Lol! I want more GS's! 😆
Hi John, Stay tuned for that Green Buick GS in the background :-) Lou
@@loucostabile Sure will!

Beautiful Car!!! Thank You so much for sharing Lou!! Happy Thanksgiving 🦃
Hi Doug B, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) You're welcome. Happy Thanksgiving, Lou
Love it, Lou, an amazing car from back when. My neighbor had one of these beauties from back when, his was in the classic brown color from back when.
Hi Joseph, Happy to read you "Love it" :-) Glad to read this one brings back memories from the car in your neighborhood, Lou
Hey Lou!!! Happy Thanksgiving big brother! OK, man-definitely this purple 'Cuda, bro. No doubt. Black one was a beauty, too-but I much prefer the purple's super aggressive, Creature from the black lagoon fishy front end. That shaker top looks EXACTLY like Black Manta's helmet (a villain of Aqua Man's) and adds to the bad ass-ness of this super purple people eater. Dave from Canada here is hilarious! I loved his accent and stories and I do think he would get a big kick outta hearing about my hyper stocking feet kicking JV baseball guy antics. Thanks Lou!
Hey John Henry, Happy Thanksgiving. Glad to read you pick the purple one :-) You're welcome, Lou
Maybe the best one yet Lou , wow that one and Cale Yarborough 390 Cyclone. Wanted to hear the 426 idle some more???! Nicely Done though.
Hi Paul, Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) Glad you enjoy the sounds from this car, Lou
Fantasticle, I like this automobile alot. Thanks Lou. I think this one is winner because of that grill, and original purple.
Hi Jon C, Happy to read this one is the Winner for you :-) You're welcome, Lou
my neighbour had a sassy green 71 hemi cuda when i was a kid in the 70,s and i used to go watch them do street racing in montreal today he has a youtube channel called nicks garage
Hi Jim, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Neighbors car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
A flying purple people eater! ..& bison..and low flying aircraft! Ahaha.
Amazing car, Lou. The stuff of legends..the stuff of dreams.
Muchas thanks for the walk around on this Inviolet HEMI 'cuda!
God bless ya tons & Happy Thaksgiving to you & yours 💜
Hi TomJ440, High praise :-) Blessings received, appreciate the Thanksgiving wishes. God bless you, and Happy Thanksgiving, Lou

Glad to read you enjoy the options on this car :-)
Plum Crazy takes the Podium❕
Thank you for sharing the car you'd pick :-)
Gorgeous and Uber Rare Mopar!
Hi Thomas, Happy to read you enjoy the looks, and appreciate the rarity of this car :-) Lou
First viewing of the video all the way from England 🇬🇧. Hope one year to see the show for myself. Great channel btw
Hi velo and Gasoline, You WIN the bragging rights for being 1st! Happy to read you're enjoying the Channel. Glad you're along for the ride, Lou
@@loucostabile love your channel Lou watch it all the time. I've a 69 chevelle here in England always loved the muscle cars. Take care 👍
Both cars are wonderful, love them but crazy purple is my favorite. I'm a MOPAR fan so thankyou very much Lou
Hi Ollie, Happy to read you like them both. Thank you for picking purple. You're welcome, Lou
Plum crazy all the way over the black '70!
Hi 1974Pantera, Thank you for viewing and sharing your choice, Lou
Wow, cant believe I missed out on this sexy thing. Need to watch this channel more lol
Hi Timmy73, Happy to receive a "Wow" from you :-) Glad to read you'll be seeing more cars on this Channel. Lou
awesome, a purple people eater lol thanx lou!
Happy to read this one is "awesome" :-) You're welcome Mouse.
Hard to decide my favorite because the ‘71 is the pinnacle, but the ‘70 is in TX9 Black, which is the a great color! FC7 though (vilot) is a cool color too. The ‘70 being a radio delete, and the ‘71 having an original and rare dicta phone recorder. Hard call but I’m going to choose the ‘70 in TX9. Close though for me. Good challenge and prompts for both cars and their owners! Great videos Lou!
Hi Greg, Thank you for making a choice and for picking the Black one. Thank you for the kind words on these videos :-) Lou
It's hard to pick because I like them and you should be very proud and have your head held high to own a very beautiful peace of history this country needs to go back to building things of art like your car it's not just a car it is work of art and pride
HI Steven, High praise, Lou
Both stunning, who'd want to choose 🤪🤪
WIN / WIN :-)
Ok, you know I’m going to watch both videos but song I have a soft spot for Canadian cars, I’ll vote for plum crazy.
Great car and video Lou! Thank you.
HI Jeff, Thanks for picking purple :-) Glad to read you enjoy them both. You're welcome, Lou
MCACN is a fabulous show, I hear tell. Muchas Mopars, too :)
Think I'll mosey down there, next summer :D
Hi TomJ440, Hope you can go, and it's the weekend before Thanksgiving, Lou
@@loucostabile I hope so, too!
It's a tale of Beauty and the Beast, here! Inviolet, or basic Black, respectively.
Hmm, in all difference to Mr. Beast, I will have to go with Belle..i mean, Beauty!
Interestingly, it is the 30th Anniversary of that classic tale.
Worth watching if you have not seen it, or could use a refresh.
Hi, Lou! Well, of course I had to check out and thumb up both 'Cudas and while the '70 does look sinister in bare bones black I think the '71 wins. The '71s generally are harder to come by since a lot fewer were built, and that goes especially for those in In-Violet with the Hemi and the Dictaphone! Be sure to record that, Lou and Dave! Many thanks to the three of you for this amazing twinbill!
Hi iswc27, Happy to read you pick purple :-) The dictaphone I can see pushing people to that one with that rare option on a Hemi Car. Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
Probably shinier than it was when it was in the showroom!!
I think you're right.
I love both cars but I would probably go more for the 71. There is a great exhibit of Chrysler muscle cars and the barn find display is great as well.
Hi Chris, Happy to read you enjoy them both. Thanks for casting your vote for 71, Lou
Oh great story Lil Greg Carr I didn’t know those Canadian boys like to go fast? I know it’s probably real hard to go to these car shows keep up the good work and courage.
Hi David, Happy to read you enjoy this story :-) Thank you for the encouraging words, Lou
Hmmmm, which one is my favorite?
I think I like the HEMI CUDA!! lol
They're both stunning.
GREAT VIDEO LOU.
Win / Win TCT9MM :-)
It’s too bad that the build quality was nothing like the restoration quality 50 years later. The very first car that I worked on in my first body shop job was a ‘70 Cuda in June, 1974. We were replacing rusted out fenders and repairing rust holes in the quarter panels. Thank Goodness that they don’t “make them like they used to”.
Hi Dave, Thanks for sharing your 1st hand knowledge. Lou
🦊🇨🇦 In Violet..King Elephant..🇨🇦🙏🏻🙏🏻
Nice :-)
Crazy beautiful Cuda .I have to say I like the purple better. Just my opinion tho
Hi Norm, Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou

Thank you CHON
'71 for me!
Thank you for sharing which one you like :-)
JEFF I NEED SOME 95653 DIRT CONTAINERS !!!

Thank you for sharing.
Those dog dish hubcaps look sinister!!
Thank you for sharing what you like :-)
Would love to see about those Mopar drag cars in the background
Hi Chris, Good news! Here is one of the drag cars. Enjoy, Lou ruclips.net/video/_juyKKiWPb4/видео.html

Happy to receive three thumbs up :-)
👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍
High praise :-)
I think I prefer the black color
Hi Ray, Thank you for viewing and sharing, Loui
That’s a Purple People Eater.
You're right :-)
1971? Why then does the emission sticker state 1970? The 1971 426 Hemi was a different animal, having hydraulic lifters instead of solid lifters as the 1964 to 1970's had. I believe I remember seeing a display in a dealer's new car showroom stating the hydraulic change and a reduced horsepower rating of 350.
Looking back, the recording cassette player was in the available option list of my parents' 1968 Plymouth Fury III. It could also have been a dealer installed option if it wasn't ordered with the cars from the factory.
Came out at the end of 1970 and titled a 1971
Is this car good for empty racetrack? And. What year is this car
Sure & 1971
You're really asking the year of the car? Your reading comprehension is really, really bad.
Not even close the 71 grille with the plum crazy
Thank you William for sharing your pick.
Back in highschool, those bold colors were okay. It wasn't uncommon to see Candy Apple Red on those hotrods. A couple years ago, a neighbor of mine stopped saying hello to me, after I got rid of an Audi and went and got a Daihatsu in one of those fruity colors. Instead of hellos, I used to get dirty looks, as if I could have picked out the color of a used car.
That grill and quad headlamps makes quite a dramatic improvement, over the 70s Barracuda's.
Didn't Motorola supply Chrysler Corporation with radios? That dictaphone looks classy.
The only things that suck on that car are those cop car hubcaps 🤢
That '61 or '2 hotrod Dodge Dart wagon to the right of the Barracuda looks cool. Can you get a video done on it?
Hi Al Dente, Thanks for viewing and sharing. Here is that Dart Wagon, Lou ruclips.net/video/_juyKKiWPb4/видео.html
Actually I prefer the green aar 340 six barrell
Hi Ray, Thank you for sharing which car you enjoy, Lou
Hey Lou it’s time to get a second mic to put on ur guests instead of keep draggin em around to stay close to ur cams mic. Just a suggestion from a fan. Those mics r cheap buddy.
Hi C.W Dervin, Challenge is another mic is another camera too :-) Those are not cheap. When at a "live" car show, there will be audio challenges, just like when you're there at the show, Lou
Is it a true hemi car!?
yes
Car
Yes
@@loucostabile ok/ 1000000 car 🤔
I'd give both nuts to own this car, but then being testosterone depleted I wouldn't be able to drive it.
Hi UFO-Ghost, Hmmm, thus creates the challenge......
I would Vote for the INVIOLET Fish! Plum Crazy sounds nice but not a Plymouth Color!
Hi Gerald, Thank you for viewing and sharing. Lou
300 hours and still does not know the color! $ and less sense wins the day!
Thank you for shairng.
I probably painted the 1st Plum Crazy Dodge truck in 91 and installed a 70 Challenger hood I also own a 71 Cuda drag car
NICE!
