On "My Car Story" we're at the Carlisle Events in Carlisle PA on 7-8-21.
We're looking at a 1970 Plymouth Cuda in FE5 Rallye Red Paint. The car comes with the factory 426 CI V8 Hemi engine producing 425 HP, with a 4 speed manual transmission.
The car's Owner is Ralph Barbagallo. Ralph’s had this car since 1998. He shares he wanted to start a car collection of really nice cars, and this one was at the top of his list. This car went through a restoration and looks to be in showroom new condition.

ENJOY!
Top Dog, King Of The Mountain, Apex Predator!!! This is THE muscle car of all muscle cars, nothing beats a Hemi 'Cuda!!! The ride was epic!!! Watching the shaker hood "quiver" was truly special and the fact that the owner took us all on a ride like that, well, it just doesn't get any better than that Lou!!! That was AWESOME!!!!
Hi Hobiemarty, High praise :-) My pleasure sharing this video with you, Lou
3,800lbs of pure amazingness
Yeh....that and the 70' 454 LS6 Chevelle SS and the 70' Buick 455 GSX.
Not a Muscle car, a Pony car...accuracy counts.
Id bet My A12 would
I am a personal friend of Ralph and had the honor of driving this very car in 2006. Thanks for the memories Ralph.
Hi George, Happy to read Ralph shared this car with you for a ride. NICE! Lou
Looks like I'm a little late to this video, but with a hemi & a 4 spd, I doubt Ralph is late for anything when he takes this beauty! This '70 Cuda looks flawless and w/the red shaker, it's truly a rare treat. Thanks, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, My pleasure sharing this rare treat with you :-) You're welcome, Lou
I love that car ! Why can't they make cars like this anymore !
Happy to read you "love that car" :-) A retro Cuda would be a fun idea.
@@loucostabile Dodge bought the Cuda name so who knows but I think Chrysler should build it they need a new car.
Because this now we are living in the era of no taste..
A new Scat Pak challenger with the 485 hp Hemi & 6 spd manual trans is no slouch and quite lovely..but ik what you mean. these E bodies were more svelte..to the tune of about 500-600 lbs lighter.
The muscle era Chrysler Corp designers were fine eyed artists, indeed
They’re like an old girlfriend, they ain’t coming back...
Another exceptional vehicle. Ralph really keeps that Cuda in immaculate condition. Even the clock was working, which usually was one of the first things that went on the dashboard! Great segment, Lou. When Ralph gave that Cuda the gas it made all your viewers smile. Thanks for the continued great videos.
Hi Kevin, Happy to read "When Ralph gave that Cuda the gas it made all your viewers smile." :-) Wonderful! Thanks for the kind words, and you're welcome, Lou
I think I hear angels sing every time I see an original HEMI Cuda!
Simply amazing!
GREAT VIDEO LOU.
Hi TCT9MM, "I think I hear angels sing every time I see an original HEMI Cuda!" AMEN! Lou
I just watched the first 20 seconds of this video about a dozen times. It certainly made my day.
Hi Roger, Happy to read this ride made your day :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Totally breathless... A '70 Hemi 'Cuda is just my favourite Plymouth of all! And with Rallye Red Paint! I like the original ads - magazines, marketing poster and mainly that fantastic jacket. Stunning! Really great My Car Story episode, Lou.
Hi Plymouth Die-Cast Replicas, Happy to read "Totally breathless... A '70 Hemi 'Cuda is just my favourite Plymouth of all! " :-) Glad this one is a Winner for you, Lou
This car was "monochrome" waaaay before monochrome was a thing in the late 80's & early 90's! The red SHAKER is so much better looking than the argent one.
Might be time to buy & build a 1/25 scale replica of this one!

When driving that in 1970 one would have to wonder what great things were to come in another 10 years. Little did we know.. Thanks Lou..
Hi BartRicky, Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
another great mopar lou.Thats the first I`ve heard of urethane bumper on any vehicle from that era.
Hi keeff, Happy to read you learned something new with this video. I'm learning from the Care Takers all the time and I find that to be so much fun. My pleasure sharing this Mopar with you, Lou
Urethane bumpers were used on the GTO starting in 1968.
Chrysler called it the elastomeric bumper treatment..it was laid over the steel bumper, rather than the usual chrome, ofc.
@@markg7030 especially Pontiac & Mopar loved to snag ideas from each other,
through the 60's, ahaha.
Nothing like the sound of a Hemi! In a Cuda makes it that much more so! Love that Ralph took all of us on a ride and drive it like it should be! Not to many out there that do this anymore with these cars.❤️🏁

Hi Pierre, Ahhh wonderful memories of Dad telling you to go faster :-) NICE! Lou
Sweeeet!! My Dad got a 69' Plymouth Roadrunner as a graduation present from High School. I heard it was a Beast and he used to smoke damn near everyone that he raced. I so wish he still had it.

He looks like a much younger version of Warren Buffett driving the supreme ultimate Chrysler Plymouth high performance car of the muscle car era. This '71 Cuda is just awesomely beautiful powerful and so rare. Bad ass. Only once in my life have I been up close to a '71 Cuda. When the owner fired the engine up it blew the moisture exhaust onto my white pants and stained them. I was standing right behind the dual exhaust and considered it a "badge of honor" and a great privilege to have my pants stained by a '71 HEMI Cuda. Love the classic muscle cars.❤❤👍👍😉😁😃

I love that unique Hemi sound, and this one definately talks. What a beautiful, clean example here. She's all business and in a great color. I also learned something new today watching this video. I didn't know about the color matched shaker scoops on the early production cars. Very interesting. Thankk you for sharing Lou. Take care.

Another great video made better with a ride. Thank you Lou. Isn't that Cuda worth an awful lot of money?
Hi Tom, Happy to get the ride for this video to share with you :-) You're welcome. I'm not sure what a car like this would sell for, Lou
@@loucostabile Well I just spent a couple well worth it hours watching your videos with Tom and other Cuda fanatics. Thanks Lou!
I found this online: One example with the Hemi engine and a stick shift is currently selling for a shade under half a million dollars on classiccars.com. The ultra-rare combination of Hemi powered convertible with a manual transmission sends the value of those examples into outer space. One of these 1971 Hemi Cuda convertibles smashed records in 2014 when it sold for a scarcely believable 3.5 million dollars.

Hi Bryan, Happy to read you enjoy this car. Yes, good thing! Lou
Yep bucket list car. Make mine with power steering though. I have driven E bodies with 383s and 440s with manual steering, and they are not fun to parallel park. lol I imagine a Hemi car would be worse!
Hi Adam, "Yep bucket list car" Enough said. Lou
You know peep adores 440 coz it's lil oomphy than 426, but they don't understand that to Hotroders, 0-60 isn't the thing, all that matters is the factor you have under the hood! 426 is the best thing you will ever have!! By the way is Cuda has some special mufflers or exhaust that it sounds like so impressive than other 426 cars??
Hi Ckryse S, Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this car, and glad to read you enjoy the sounds from this car. I like the sounds from this car too, Lou
I owned a Challenger T/A and had to use that space saver tire. First of all the can of propellant didn’t work. Secondly even though we were at a closed gas station where the air still worked but when I filled the tire it inflated sideways instead of out. We managed to inflate it the right way by standing on the tire to force it out. Suffice it to say I junked it and got a real spare

..ahh, Lou..that part where you're laughing & misty eyed almost to tears of joy simultaneously!
Nice feeling, eh? (i get that from the Holy Spirit, too :')
This red beast..wow =:0 & this fellow knows how to get on it without completely roasting the tires, bc it would have been sidewinding down that road with smoke rolling off the rear skins, ahaha. ..just heard the lil chirps, well done.
I'm green with envy over this rarity in red!!!! Oooof!
Tons of thanks, Lou.
P.s. Elephant tech: 425 hp was an accurate rating at 5,200 RPM. However, the typical 426 Hemi would make approx. 490 hp at 6,100 RPM ..Chrysler played it on the down low, to skate past higher insurance costs &
dodge :p some other govt regs, muahaha.

My brother in law helped design this car.
You're Brother In Law did great work designing this car :-)
This car is designed off the 1967 Camero!
Hi Jerry, Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Lou
That's the way all of your videos should begin and end. A video of yours, filmed not that long ago, featured a (I think it was a 1970 428 Torino GT) factory hotrod with a vaccuum-operated scoop which would bypass the snorkel at full throttle. That way, you could hear the carburetor. That's what's missing on this Hemi Barracuda. I hate to nag repeatedly about post-'66 Mopars. But, the cheapened quality of materials in the later ones, like the woodgrain stickers on the dash and console were nothing you'd need to impress a date. The bean-counters must have figured that they could go cheap on the asthetics, simply because nobody else sold a Hemi. To think, even the older base Valiants had chrome trim in their interiors
