If you're no good at bowling, this isn't really a good tip for you. This tip is more for people who are able to line up and hit the pocket consistently. You should have a basic set of fundamentals in place before trying to adjust hand position between shots.
For my fellow novice/recreational bowlers: What I do is grab the lightest ball with the smallest holes that the place has. Barely put your finger tips in the holes, and leave your thumb out. Line up to release as close to the right side of the lane as possible (or left if you’re a lefty). Curl your wrist, and release the ball as hard as you can- while you release flip your hand to create spin, to where it curves right into the pocket. Try to release as close to the floor as possible. Sounds stupid, but with a little practice it’s a solid technique.
I've had good success with a half step forward. Sometimes you roll a great shot everything is perfect then bam solid 10. With the half step forward I've noticed the 6 will kick out the ten pin. I've also heard taking a half step back from your starting position is good also. Give both a try see what works u. Peace
I just had reconstructive surgery on my left shoulder on the 3rd of June. Last weekend I went bowling and had 9 strikes in a row and was super surprised. Still learning the curve more to be more consistent
Wow that’s amazing. I’ve never had surgery on any of my shoulders, and I went bowling 2 days ago and didn’t get any strikes. I did get 101 points though. (That’s good for me)
Good Video on the drill, allow me to add more important info about this. If you want to throw more strikes, it is NOT just about creating more AXIS rotation, this will not guarantee you to get more strikes. This is because some bowlers already have too much axis rotation, especially those with a heavy hand and a lot of revs, like two-handed bowlers. Moreover, you can get a lot of strikes with a low track like Shannon showed in this video when she left the 10 pin, all you have to do is to adjust your feet or maybe make a ball change, or a speed change. The KEY to ALWAYS keep in mind is to try to get the ball to consistently go through the pins at an angle that will allow it the ball to die in the middle. In other words, you want to see a "flush" strike reaction when your ball hit the pins. PLUS, you also have to keep in mind what bowling ball you are using and what oil pattern you are bowling on. There are just so many variables that you have to keep in mind and learn to watch and control if you really want to get better and start throwing more strikes. Questions? I'm happy to answer here :)
(I also replied this first paragraph elsewhere). 22 years ago I shot my personal high game 270 in a situation where I had to take my hand out of it as much as possible. It was on very dry wood lanes. I don't have trouble making the ball crank, but my speed was not up where it should be, and on a dry lane I had no shot. I used my storm spare ball for a strike ball and rolled it with as little hook as possible and my shot hooked less than Shannon's first ball in the video. It was actually a no tap tournament, but my 270 was natural because I left no 10 pins. And I didn't finish in the money because other better bowlers benefited from a few free 10 pins. I never bowled that way again though, it was just an emergency measure. Trying to deliberately make less than 10 boards of hook takes all the fun out of it for me. I never got within 20 pins of 270 again either ... I'll have to fix that. I haven't bowled since 2003. I got tired of fighting dry lanes, and houses that catered to bowlers that complained if there was any oil, because they can't crank it and want to hook like they can. I was in a league where suddenly there was real oil out there one week, and I was loving it while the rest of them grumbled. There was real oil the next week too, and I overheard guys grumbling that they suspected the house was catering to me. Then the next week after that it was dry again. I talked to the owner and he told me he mistakenly set his machine to apply oil in both directions, causing the machine to apply double oil, and it took him 2 weeks to notice the mistake. Anyway I'm retired now, the game has changed, and I want to start again. I'm going to look for a pro shop that can help me locate my PAP and explore what the latest ball technology has to offer, and see if there's a house around me that will apply some oil.
I agree, yet I think this shows her actual gameplay without making it look like a bowling God throwing strikes left and right, was a good decision, it shows that they're being honest when making this video
For league bowlers that don’t have a big arsenal this is huge. Last night at league I started out ringing ten pins and left a 9 pin. I needed to take a little bit out of my wrist and I started having much better pin carry and finished the night with a 747. If I don’t make that adjustment I’m frustrated all night. Great tip guys!!

This old guy in my league, told me about oil patterns. The only sport/game where you’ll get pointers from openents. I ended up throwing 5 strikes in a row. After that he said he should t have said anything😂😂
To the people stating the two shots were on different parts of the lane. Yes, that is true. However, the point of the video is that changing the hand position at the release point creates a different angle to the pocket. If your carry isn't where you want it to be, try changing the hand position. Great video!
Junior in high school and this is my second year bowling and my first year I got a 223 and yesterday I bowled a 268. Today I hope to beat it again! I would love to make it to state this year with the girls team
Wait, What she throw two lines first was going over the 15 to the 9 and the second going over the 10 to the 5, , ball got in the dry and moved stronger to the pockets.
Good video, but smack the editor on the head, cause he put those transparent tables in the WORST position he could ! Right OVER where Shannon was doing her release ! We couldn't see her hand at all ! I'm astonished how can someone make such a mistake. There was a ton of space in the frame to put that table anywhere else. I hope it doesn't happen again.
Mrs. O'Keefe's first shot was inside (for her shot and ball) and went over the third arrow where it didn't get enough hook so was going too straight. While the second shot went over the 12 board and was further right where it hooks more. That probably had more effect than changing the axis tilt.
I was thinking the same thing. This lesson should have mentioned that with more axis tilt, the bowler needs to adjust their arrows. This would really help the occasional bowler, everyone else would know that already
These drills are more about working on getting the hand in a better position which will then tend to create a more effective ball roll and motion through the pins resulting in better pin carry and more strikes. So during the drills, the goal isn't so much to strike, but to create a better release and ball roll which will result in more strikes with your full approach. Thanks for watching and thanks for the great question!!

It would be of better use if the "Tips" banner were not placed directly over the person's hand so that you could see clearly her hand at the time of release on the slow motion shots!
I was concerned because I was asked to sub on a team tonight. I have been in a slump over the last month (was at a 200 average, now 196). However, I struck a lot more today and finally rolled a 600 series because of this tip.
Two questions. At what point do you start rotating around the ball, and when does adding more axis rotation prevent playing the inside part of the bowling ball?
Great question! The point at which you start rotating your hand around the ball depends on how much axis rotation you are trying to achieve. More axis rotation = turning your hand around the ball earlier as it will take more time to accomplish that. Less axis rotation = turn your hand later. And in regards to your question about playing the inside part of the ball, remember the wrist and the elbow are two totally separate parts of the arm that work independently. You can rotate your wrist around the ball without rotating your elbow and "chicken winging" it as most people say. Focus solely on rotating your wrist while keeping your elbow on the inside of the ball and you will achieve a nice, solid release.
@@insidebowling I prefer to release behind the ball but have been working on getting more axis rotation. When I feel like I really "hit" it hard, I go through my aiming point at the arrows but go WAY further right of my intended break point. At that point there is zero chance of the ball making it back to the pocket. I haven't figured out what is causing this big "skid" stage yet? I don't feel I am pushing it. Frustrating...
nah common, bit of a crock there. Only way that's using the technique shown in the first two practice shots is if she didn't wear a VISE wrist brace in the full shot.
The new wrist brace rule actually won't affect Shannon to much as she usually doesn't bowl PBA National Tour events. The new rule does not affect the PWBA, PBA50 or PBA regional events. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching our videos, we appreciate it!
I'm back! The reason you see a lot of nine-pins on high flush hits by right handlers is not that the ball hooks past the nine-pin. It is because the sharp entry angle of resin balls makes the 1-3 pocket wider. If you don't believe me look at the pocket on the lane just to your left. The pocket looks wider than the one on your lane. This is approximately what a sharp hooking ball sees when it hits the pocket. The nine-pin stays up because the ball deflects to the left off the right side of the three-pin, not because it continues to hook left. The key to carrying the nine-pin on a high flush hit is to have less entry angle, so the ball does not deflect to the left after hitting the three-pin.

All my bowling balls have one finger hole lol so watching the pros have 3 is like well this is gonna be a good one 💀💀
