One of THE best videos on the set up of a humminbird unit. I learned more in this 15 minute video than just about every other video I have watched combined. The feedback on the frequency settings were very helpful. Exactly what I had been looking for. Thank you
Nick Winchester Thanks it's what I was looking for when I first made the jump to Bird. I couldn't find it so I just made one myself. Anytime I can help just ask don't hesitate.
No problem and I will surely take you up on the offer. I have an Onix 8 at the helm of my boat and a helix 7 on the bow connected to the trolling motor, so my boat is well equipped with humminbirds. The more I understand about how they work and the features they possess and the way they can help me find fish, the better I will be from an angling standpoint. Thanks again. I have liked your channel and will look for future videos.
Great video. I just bought a New Grizzly 1860 CC with 2 Helix Gn2 and today was my first day out. You did an outstanding job on this presentation. I just wish you were with me to talk me through this. First boat in a number of years. Growing up my dad had the old circular Humminbird and now to this. And I see you just put out a vid for the Gn2. More brain scrambling. Thanks bud for your enthusiasm and support for us old schoolers
Thank you for making so much easier to understand! My hubby and I love to fish. We just bought a bass boat and trying to figure the electronics out is a challenge!!
I know this video was posted some time ago, but thank you for the break down. I recently purchased a used GEN 1 Helix 5, and although its a bit different (given its just a SI/GPS unit) your breakdown was simple to follow and gave me a good understanding of the things I am looking for. Thank You. You have a new subscriber!
you can hold down the view button and there will be a menu that pops up that allows you to directly select the view you want. Much faster than stepping through the screens like you show.
I see where you were adjusting the frequency in the imaging views pull down menu, thanks. I will experiment and see which ones appear the most clear between the 400, 800, and Mega. Thanks for the video!
That was very helpful. I have a 10 GN1 SI and a regular 9 GN1. I’ve had a little envy with all of my friends who have the same helix units, but with chirp. I think I need to just fine-tune some of my settings to continue to enjoy my existing unit more.
Just wanted to say Thank You for your help about purchasing HDSI transducers for my Helix 9's..... WOW WHATA DIFFERENCE !!!!!!! Now I have definition of side structure 😁👍
Thanks this was a great video. Going to set up my Helix7. I fish for hybrids so this will help find those schools. Hope you have more videos of what fish look like!
Let me know how it goes. One more tip is contrast will clean up much of the clutter. Right now we have a ton of junk in the water so the return can be fuzzy. Just raise your contrast about by 2 and it cleans up nicely and you won't miss fish. Thanks for watching!
I am a beginner and I just purchased the helix 7 ( chirp. si. GPS ) G2.It does not have the 3 buttons that the nine has. does the Humminbird work the same way?
Pretty much this is an older video and some of the software updates have changed the terminology but It's pretty much the same. Without the preset buttons it's really important to trim down the views. It will save you a ton of time changing screens.
Could you do video on how to set up your Hummingbird Helix for Vertical Jig fishing for bass and setting the unit up to watch your bait. From turning the unit on until finish setting. Thanks, enjoy your videos

Awesome videos. I too just switched to Humminbird Helix this week and will be the boat home to install it. Your videos helped me to decide and am going to hook up the i pilot link feature with it. Can not wait to get it all working. Keep up the great work and thanks.
Thank you I do have a Hummingbird Helix 7 si First gen. and Im in a Kayak and I was watching another video and person said increase you ping speed to get a better view under your boat. Ive had the Helix for about 2 yr and had never seen ping in the settings.that's where my question is from. Thanks
Hey that's a fair question. I've had my units for about 2 years and I've went looking for "ping speed" I know on Lowrance it's there but If it's on the Helix unit I've never found it. lol.
Thanks for the info. We just got a 9 and very happy with it. IT replaced a 7 Hook, But we haven't learned all we need to know about it yet. Too busy fishing.
I have a kayak and I do a lot of river fishing I live in Tioga county which is in Pennsylvania I was wanting to know which fish finder would be the best for my kayak on what kind of fishing I do
I’m not sure if I have the right transponder, I would love to tell the difference between fish and debris, I had an old Humminbird and it showed fish that looked like fish, but that was all it did basically… so I upgraded to this helix 5 and although it’s better at some things I find it useless at others, for me anyways… I just want to see fish again.. is there a good way ?
Enjoyed the video, but how can you determine the direction the fish are traveling when your transducer is on the trolling motor ? ( hummingbird helix 5 di )
The “cone” on the di is more a thin straight line. Keeping the trolling motor pointed forward you can tell if the fish is moving front to back or back to front. Other than that if it is a continuous line it’s moving with the direction of the boat.
Bought the helix 10, having trouble with the visual aspect on my side imaging, I can identify tree branches. Do you have any tips on what to look for in identifying brush piles 40 and 50 ft of each side of the boat? Also your video helped me out a ton on dialing in my unit! Thanks
That's a tough question without visual aids. The first thing I'm gonna tell you Is if you are looking for cover\structure on side imaging use the highest frequency your unit has. So if it's a mega use the 1200, if it's not use the 800. You will have to play with the contrast and sensitivity. Now my next question is how deep and how flat are the area you're searching?
great video explaining the fish finder, non of the manufactures do a video explaining like you did , been looking for consul unit under 250.00 , have a garmin striker 4 on troll mtr , what others would you suggest me looking into ? thanks
To me the best bang for your buck at that price point is going to be looking at used units. Facebook has a lot of good pages for used fishing gear. Also be sure to check out Ebay.
I have an older humminbird up front and previous owner has the sensor electrical taped to the trolling motor. Sometimes it glitches out and won't read when trolling. Can this be getting interference from the motor? Is it bad to attach the sensor to the trolling motor? I've never owned one before.
@@BassGeek would it help if I moved it off the trolling motor and mounted it on the motor shaft? Not many options to mount without chance of ripping it off. It's a flat bottom aluminum Jon boat/bass boat.
Hey what does the ice fishing choice do? I'm looking to jig lake trout off the bottom in summer months. I localized the top and bottom for the chart so I can watch movement....just not sure what the jig and ice fishing modes do - thanks!
I'll be perfectly honest with you. I have never tried the "ice fishing mode" Humminbird makes an Ice fishing version of the helix units. If I'm guessing the Ice mode is just a flasher screen. No the jigging mode I can talk about. It basically intensifies the signal return. You'll see your line lure fish a dead fly 25ft suspended. I do some vertical fishing with spoons during the summer and we do a lot of dimiki rig fishing during the winter. I always have my bow unit on sonar and I love it. To be hones I only use sonar on the front. Sorry I couldn't help anymore than that.
I've moved mine around just a little. I had in the same place you're talking about originally but on the right side of the boat. I moved it to the center right in front of the motor to test. It didn't really help one way or the other so I just left it there.
Recommendation.... stock transducer or HDI transducer...???? I have 2 Helix 9 and I'm really having a difficult time getting good side imaging visual.... No Distinction At All.. ????
@@BassGeek Thank You... I'll order 2 HD transducers to get a more distinctive view of structures.... Whew didnt think It was gonna be this difficult.....
First hit Menu x2 then go to the views tab and be sure that the view you want is not hidden. Then you can hold the view button go to sonar and select the view you would like to use
Just picked a Helix7 SI, your video helps with the initial setup and what your seeing on the screen. Just curious about side image, where is the shoreline in the view? And what are you seeing in the center of the view that always seems to be dark where the path of the boat is? Is there a way to differentiate between species of fish, bass vs pike vs blue gills vs catfish?
Thanks. First the shore line will appear much as the Center of the screen. It will be dark and you will see the rough edges. That is unless the shore is further away than you have the side scan set up for. So say you have your side scan set to 75ft out and the shore is 90ft away your not going to see it. Now as for the middle that is an area of the water where the sonar has not began to touch bottom. So its just water. Hope that helps.
I have the Helix 7 G2N SI and the Helix 9 (first generation). I have no short cut buttons on my Helix 7. I have it mounted on the dash. However, I do on my Helix 9. On my dad's pontoon, we have an 859 and 859 DI. They have short cut buttons. So I guess it could be worse.
BassGeek my dealer is insistent on wiring it to the fuse box. Also he says to drill the transducer into the transom, and not the hulll. I have a aluminum 16 foot new crest liner btw.
when I am traveling on the water I like to look at 2d and find new spots ... can I have the 2 d on full screen and use map pointing my direction or do I have to split screen it 1/2 map 1/2 gps
Do you mean Like picture in picture. Unless you have two units you'll have to do some sort of spit screen to have the map and the sonar running. Now you can set the quick change buttons and switch between a full 2d and a full map.
@@BassGeek we use lowrence and huminbird .. with lowrence we are able to overlay navigation triangle on top of 2d sonar and have a full 2d picture with aid of aggravation as we go offshore for 2 hrs .. we can scan the sea at 30mph and never get lost .. old days we had to do a split screen 1/2 nav 1/2 sonar . .with overlay you can put any info you need on any screen so with lowrence I have voltage , water temp , nav and distance to way point on 2d sonar using overlay . . can I put nav on 2d sonar using humminbird
bugaboo258 first be sure you name both units so to make it easier to locate the transducer you want to use. You will do that under the same place as sharing the transducers. Here’s how to get there: hit menu 2xs go all the way to the tab on the right called Network. Under that menu the first selection will be the NAME of the unit. I name mine Bow and Console just to make it simple. Then select the menu item labeled network Source Setup. You should then see STATUS, 2D, DI, SI and so on. Go to the type of sonar you want to use like SI for example, and simply place a check in the box of the transducer you want to use. Hope this helps.
Thanks BG, Gonna try ur settings on my Helix 9 & 7 G2N, for the life of me I can't dial in SI to look like yours or Doug V's, let u know how it turns out.
Thank you for the breakdown in this video. Wound you recommend your settings for a first time Fish Finder user of a Helix 5 CHIRP.DI.GPS.G2? Just curious, what does the G2 stand for? Thanks again.
When looking at the screen and you see fish, where are the fish in relation to the transducer? Directly beneath it when they are in the middle of the screen?? I'm looking at getting my first fish graph.
If you're talking on the Side Imaging most of the time no. That's why I use the lines. On the Down Imaging yes. Now as you get into deeper water the cone or visible area will be larger. There is a cone to depth example image in the humminbird user manual.
Why no Sharpness setting? Whats contour Range do? 1/2 way thru video. Great video so far. I'll get my science end somewhere else.Great set up vid about what to play with first.
The sharpness seems to pixelate it really does the opposite of what sharpness is should do I think. That's just my opinion. Contour range changes your map depth range. So say the lake you're on is down 10ft you can adjust the map to match. I can give you the science to I'm a Engineer (Not the train type even though I was one of those at one time also LOL) I just didn't want people falling to sleep and no one has done a video just talking about the settings. Thanks for watching and thanks for the awesome compliment.
I hope it does. Let me know if it helps and if you have any questions feel free to contact me. You can email me or contact me on instagram via PM or Facebook via my facebook page and just send me a message. Let me know how it works for you.
If I'm in 20 foot of water and set the Side Scan distance to 100 feet..am I actually scanning 100 feet left/right; or am I scanning 20 feet down and 80 feet right/left ? Thanks.
Not sure if I have a setting off but on my lowarance structure scan ,"half" of one side is darker and u can barley see what's there, the other side has a normal clear picture....any idea why....only 1 year old
Fishing In The City I would start by checking my transducer? Make sure it is not tilted to one side. The other would be if this is a new install and it happens when your fishing alone I tilt mine so that when I’m in the boat driving it balances. I’m a big guy and the boat will lean to me so I offset that.
Again, I have a Hummingbird 7 Unit. NOT happy. Suggestions for a better image? Thanks for sharing your settings. What is the name of the best transducer? I currently run a standard transducer. Keep up the good work. Would like to see some vertical fishing with a spoon.
BassGeek - Thanks for responding. I believe it is a Gen 1. Helix 7 SI - GPS. Just not happy with images, cannot see brushpiles or fish. An suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Just got off the phone with HB and they say to buy a HD transducer for $269. Would be willing to purchase if this solved the problem, just not sure. Thanks again, love your channel.
Yeah I would look into the HD transducer. It will help a ton. I will say I’m not a fan of the helix units under 9’s. In one of the videos I add the name of the had transducer you would try.
BassGeek - I just purchased the HD transducer. $180 shipping and tax. Thanks for your recommendation. Will let you know how it works once I get back from trip, Jan 17 and then install. You have more info than HB people. They should tell people about the HD transducer at time of purchase. Read a lot of reviews, people seem to be high on this transducer. Appreciated...
I use Navionics because right now they don't have half the lakes I fish on Lakemaster. They need to quite being sorry and get out and map those dang lakes.
I fish a lake that is on average fishing depth of 40 to 700 feet in depth. Most fish I catch are around 120. What's the best setup for that situation on my helix 7. ?
does the helix 10 gps waypoint work like any other gps . when you put in a waypoint does it give you heading or do you just go toward the marking. I am not that smart but this thing is not user freindly
I have a Helix 12 Mega SI GPS G2n what transducer do I need on my trolling motor so that I can fish vertical and it shows my line and fish on the graph kinda like ehler's video? Thanks and I subscribed
The transducer that comes with the 12SI Mega Chirp G2N (man what a mouth full) should do it when you are on sonar. Do you have the bow unit's transducer mounted to the trolling motor?
Have you posted another video with the deep fish? Mine has a lot of clutter on the 2d sonar and everything really and it kind of aggravates me I cant get it keyed in.
Real_CaseyB Yeah go to my on the water playlist there are several from this year. What unit and what transducer do you have? Also this time of year there can be a ton of crap in the water.
Thank you, I have the Helix 9 G2N mega, fish Sam Rayburn a lot, and like I said I just feel there is a TON of clutter unless I turn my sensitivity WAY down... DI and SI aren't that bad but I cant figure out the 2D. Thanks for the reply bud
Real_CaseyB Real_CaseyB Ok so transducer is good to go. It’s not vertical lines is it? I just want to be sure it’s not interference from another transducer. If not I can say the chirp is SUUUUUUUPER sensitive. Flake sure jigging mode is off and switchfire mode is on clear. If we are talking about the console unit.
You can but you’ll either have to stand at the back of the boat or near the transducer where ever it may be mounted or have a second transducer mounted near the front
FishingGalway You. An start with the ones in the video. Just remember it’s not a set and forget deal. You’ll have to tweak the setting depending on the lake, area, depth, even the water clarity.
Hank Hayes Thanks for watching what you see is the Auto Chart Live map. There are some slight color adjustment you can make but it's not very versatile in that sense. I'm using Navionics as my base map and all you can do is shade depths. The Lake Master maps are apparently much more versatile but they just don't cover some of the lakes near me.
Thank you sir and sort'a kinda. I'm gonna guess your like me and you're coming from Lowrance based on the term ping speed. With Humminbird it's a little different. You want to match the speed the boat is moving. So for example if you are at the bow unit I keep "chart speed at about 2. If I'm at my console I keep it around 5. You can play with the both units just to tweak it to your preference but like I said it is sort'a kinda the some but different. There is no "ping speed" on helix units.
@@jeffstremick871 Sorry Jeff i should have asked this already. Is it a Mega? Either way you should have the best transducer for your unit they changed it after the Gen1's.
I would use the 800Khz 90% of the time. Back off both sensitivity and contrast. Maybe as low as 8 on the sensitivity and then +\-2 on the contrast. Contrast can change a lot based of water but a plus or minus 2 vs your sensitivity is a good starting point. If it's still to "hot" or bright back off the sensitivity and keep working.
Thanks BG. I never realized, but I have the kvd model and it doesn't have the 800Khz transducer. I have the 83/200, 455 only. Still very good information that I put to use this past weekend! Thanks.
William Carione It should still work for the 455 you may have to really crank the contrast up. In that shallow water. Crank that sensitivity down also. How did it work for ya
It was a great starting place. Yeah, I had to drop the sensitivity more to get rid of the floaties. But like you stated, it's just a starting point. I was able to fine tune in on some grass beds that were holding fish.
I just install a second transducer it is a DI transducer and I have for my main transducer the HD SI transducer. I had to install the switch in order for it to work. when I chose the transducer on the sonar screen what should I be seeing. Will it show the types of transducer that are connected to my unit.
So you have the compact and the HD? It will show both at all times. The NON-HD should be labled compact Side Traducer which will not allow 800khz. The HD should show something like this: XHS 9 HDSI 180 T I'll have to check on mine unit to see what the exact terminology is. What Helix unit do you have?

David Fodor You know I don’t but that is a really good Idea. Let me know what you would like on it and I’ll put one together for you guys.
You are right... This has been very helpful... Now, I need to get out and give it a try!! Thank you!!
Anytime Bill. Like I said you da man!
Now this is and old video the newer graphs come with them now.
@@BassGeek thanks man, I’ll be looking for a new one that’s less complicated, thanks again…Mark
dude i really enjoy your videos, straight to the point
BassLivesMatter Thanks and I try. Hahaha
So, I just purchased a HB 10 Mega Chirp Si+ unit. Should I run my frequency on 1200? Look the vid, keep them coming on electronics.
Roger Scheuermann As much as possible yes you want to. However that will change as bottom, depth, etc changes.
@@BassGeek thank you for the information it helps me out. Merry Christmas to you and your family
Dave Wickham I hope it helps.
Thanks man
Bought the helix 10, having trouble with the visual aspect on my side imaging, I can identify tree branches.
Yes it can be trolling motor interference. It could also be a the wire if it's in a bind.
@@BassGeek would it help if I moved it off the trolling motor and mounted it on the motor shaft? Not many options to mount without chance of ripping it off. It's a flat bottom aluminum Jon boat/bass boat.
Boondock Hiker No it’s not really gonna work on the shaft
Where did you place your transducer? I bought a boat and they had it on the left side under the step.
If they are ANY thing other than Mega the HDI. The compact transducers sucks.

I'll order 2 HD transducers to get a more distinctive view of structures....

Roy Roth Yeah I tried to pack in the info for this video.
Got two side by side Helen 5 and Helex 5 di gps can’t figure out how to just get full screen just for structure
First hit Menu x2 then go to the views tab and be sure that the view you want is not hidden. Then you can hold the view button go to sonar and select the view you would like to use
Does Hummingbird units have an A scope?
Yes it’s called the RTS windo
Brandon Skwira if you hold the View button in on the 7 it will pull up a quick menu that you can change view with.
Thank you so much, is this helix si or msi?
Helix si but that a little old be sure to check out the updated video
oui j'ai aimé et j'ai mis ce vidéo dans mes favori,très bonne explication, your a good teacher. Merci beaucoup!!.
Thank you.
Do you ever have an issue with poor power supply? How do you have yours wired up? Of starting battery or trolling battery
Always to the starting battery. I wire them direct with a inline fuse. That's how Humminbird recommends it be done.
I heard to the fuse box Mr Geek.
Canadian mistake The paper work for the gen 1 9Si says best straight to the battery
BassGeek my dealer is insistent on wiring it to the fuse box. Also he says to drill the transducer into the transom, and not the hulll. I have a aluminum 16 foot new crest liner btw.
Canadian mistake Dealers like to do things their way. If it works for ya great I guess there’s more than one way to skin a cat.
when I am traveling on the water I like to look at 2d and find new spots ... can I have the 2 d on full screen and use map pointing my direction or do I have to split screen it 1/2 map 1/2 gps
@@boashna On the helix units you can set a POS but it only shows your GPS coordinates not a direction arrow.
how do u select tranduers on a network system, could u explain
bugaboo258 first be sure you name both units so to make it easier to locate the transducer you want to use.
👍
Quite helpful. My helix 7 needs some tuning and now I know how.
Thanks
Happy to help. Ask me anything anytime.
just out of curiosity have you done the basecamp upgrade? if so what exactly does it do?
I have not yet but I plan on it in the next few days. So I'll let ya know.
Thank you for the breakdown in this video. Wound you recommend your settings for a first time Fish Finder user of a Helix 5 CHIRP.DI.GPS.G2? Just curious, what does the G2 stand for? Thanks again.
Generation 2 or generation 3
Yes they are a good starting point
Great video on the Helix. Are you using the stock transducer that came with the unit or have you upgraded the ducer?
On the Gen1 I upgraded but now from Gen2 up you don't have to any longer.
How can I tell if I have a GEN two or a gym one helix seven it was on the boat when I bought it

good stuff man, I've got the Helix 5 on my Kayak. just put it on, still trying to get used to it but its nice being able to see structure under me.
These settings should work for you. 455khz is what your ducer will be running.
Does this have the same features as the Helix 5, just different size screen?
There are some differences but just be sure to look over the specs.
How do you like the helix 9 I am looking into getting a 9 or 10 not sure which one to get
I love'em! If you can get at least the 9Gen2 mega. Hands down best on the market. Heck if you can swing it get a 12 lol.
If I'm in 20 foot of water and set the Side Scan distance to 100 feet..am I actually scanning 100 feet left/right; or am I scanning 20 feet down and 80 feet right/left ? Thanks.
You are scanning 100ft left or right.
Steps on How do I change my fish symbol to arches helix 7 meg 3 si/di imaging
I think I have that in one of these videos.

It really it
Not sure if I have a setting off but on my lowarance structure scan ,"half" of one side is darker and u can barley see what's there, the other side has a normal clear picture....any idea why....only 1 year old
Fishing In The City I would start by checking my transducer? Make sure it is not tilted to one side. The other would be if this is a new install and it happens when your fishing alone I tilt mine so that when I’m in the boat driving it balances. I’m a big guy and the boat will lean to me so I offset that.
Great video. This has helped me very much. Thank you
Thank you for watching I Know it old.
Again, I have a Hummingbird 7 Unit. NOT happy. Suggestions for a better image? Thanks for sharing your settings. What is the name of the best transducer? I currently run a standard transducer. Keep up the good work. Would like to see some vertical fishing with a spoon.
Roger Scheuermann Is it a Gen1 or Gen 2
Do you use navionics or lake master card
I use Navionics because right now they don't have half the lakes I fish on Lakemaster. They need to quite being sorry and get out and map those dang lakes.
@@BassGeek I was thinking that same thing buddy

Yes out of the water

I fish a lake that is on average fishing depth of 40 to 700 feet in depth. Most fish I catch are around 120. What's the best setup for that situation on my helix 7. ?
I don’t know that that’s a simple answer that can be given in a comment.
does the helix 10 gps waypoint work like any other gps . when you put in a waypoint does it give you heading or do you just go toward the marking. I am not that smart but this thing is not user freindly
It places a mark your heading is based off the direction of the boat. You can turn on heading settings.
I have a Helix 12 Mega SI GPS G2n what transducer do I need on my trolling motor so that I can fish vertical and it shows my line and fish on the graph kinda like ehler's video? Thanks and I subscribed
Ok so is the 12 on your bow?
what and where is your transducer at now if it is?
Yes I have a 12 SI Mega Chirp G2N and I have 2 of the same transducers with Si, DI, 2D sonar but cant seem to get it running correctly
The transducer that comes with the 12SI Mega Chirp G2N (man what a mouth full) should do it when you are on sonar. Do you have the bow unit's transducer mounted to the trolling motor?
Yeah I have the bow mounted on the trolling motor and the one at stern or cockpit mounted on the transom
Can u verticals jig with fish finder by the console because I don’t have one in the front? Will it show up on the fish finder?
You can but you’ll either have to stand at the back of the boat or near the transducer where ever it may be mounted or have a second transducer mounted near the front
Awesome I’ll give a it a go... thanks!
thanks for the video !!! , what setings for 7 DI gen 2 ?
FishingGalway You. An start with the ones in the video. Just remember it’s not a set and forget deal. You’ll have to tweak the setting depending on the lake, area, depth, even the water clarity.
Can you setup a hummingbird Helix 5 without being on the water after installing it
Yeah but you really won't know until your on the water what settings work best.

I liked the info so well I had to subscribe. Thanks
AWESOME!
how did you change your map color
Hank Hayes Thanks for watching what you see is the Auto Chart Live map. There are some slight color adjustment you can make but it's not very versatile in that sense. I'm using Navionics as my base map and all you can do is shade depths. The Lake Master maps are apparently much more versatile but they just don't cover some of the lakes near me.
If I'm anchored over a fishing hole what is the best chart speed for seeing suspended or on the move fish? Clayman
On sonar or the down image?
I believe that I only have down imaging. I'm new at this. Thank you. Clayman
Hi I have a helix 7 si first gen and I trying to increase ping speed on my unit, is ping speed and chart speed the same??? Great job sir....
Is there a setting where the scroll update speed is matched to boat speed with the unit's GPS?
Craig A. Smith No you have to update the speed manually
@@BassGeek Thanks!
How can I tell what transducer I have?
What Unit do you have.
Helix 9 SI GPS gen 2
Jeff Stremick DI SI?
@@jeffstremick871 Sorry Jeff i should have asked this already. Is it a Mega? Either way you should have the best transducer for your unit they changed it after the Gen1's.
first time viewer. most of the water I fish is 7ft or less. would you recommend the same settings to start?
William Carione that's the best thing I could hear.
I just install a second transducer it is a DI transducer and I have for my main transducer the HD SI transducer. I had to install the switch in order for it to work. when I chose the
transducer on the sonar screen what should I be seeing. Will it show the types of transducer that are connected to my unit.
So you have the compact and the HD? It will show both at all times. The NON-HD should be labled compact Side Traducer which will not allow 800khz. The HD should show something like this: XHS 9 HDSI 180 T
I'll have to check on mine unit to see what the exact terminology is. What Helix unit do you have?
BassGeek No I have the HD transducer and a DI transducer.
BassGeek It is the HD SI transducer and a DI transducer
Ok wait. So you just installed a DI? Why would you do that if you have a SI transducer. I have the Di's do both DI and SI?
What's the model of the HD transducer?
In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens ruclips.net/user/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
Cool thanks for watching
@Bassgeek - why do you turn fish ID off
Fish ID is not totally accurate. It can sometime read submerged debris as fish or limbs of brush piles etc.
Thanks.
I have a new to me, Helix5 that I am just starting to try and learn :-)
