They are actually all supposed to be teenagers so they basically ARE kids. That's why their views on things are very simplistic and their drive is super strong. As they grow, their viewpoints shift and grow too, just like how ours. But their core characters remain. ❤
the scene is good. But i feel like the line in serie is even more cringe than in anime. like the conversation when he got stab in the chest. Or maybe i just didn't heard anime line in series format.
Interesting how do many got shocked and confused by the interaction with Zoro keeping himself open and Mihawk slashing. Zoro requested a duel, which in this context and characterization is a duel to the death. This request puts him different from the random trash Mihawk was killing before as it is a direct request as a swordsman. Zoro comes off as arrogant and blind for not understanding his level; however, he gains Mihawk's interest due to 3 main points. 1. Loyalty for putting his challenge to interfere with Mihawk going after Luffy. 2. Bravery and willpower for not being willing to run like a coward when against insurmountable odds. 3. Self-reflection for understanding he lost the duel and is at the mercy of the one he challenged. Hence, Mihawk saw this as 'magnificent.' If he just let him go without repercussion for the challenge it cheapens the act of doing so and ruins Mihawk's reputation by allowing any idiot with a sword to insult him with no risk. The act of purposely leaving him injured acts as a challenge abd incentive for him to grow stronger.
When that girl was asking why Mihawk not using his big Sword, we already knew this girl won't understand the meaning of this. it's just dumb thing to her.
I get the feeling Mihawk has been around long enough to spot genuine potential when he sees it, and that he saw it in Zoro which is why he didn't kill him outright. I guess he was also testing Zoro's inner resolve and strength as well as the loyalty of the crew - leave him nearly dead and see if he has the strength to pull himself back, and see what the crew will do to help him. I know he's bored out of his mind because he's achieved the title of 'greatest swordsman in the history of the world' and there's no where else to go from there, so I'm guessing these little tests provide him with some interest
@@iremainteague5653No, it’s shown that Mihawk does know and respect Shanks, and even spars with him on occasion. Him mentioning the hat, was him referencing Shanks and recognizing Luffy as someone that Shanks has previously mentioned to him. Seeing he had Shanks’ approval, the loyalty of Zoro, and his own conviction was enough to sell Mihawk on his being a fun wild card to let go.
Zoro challenged Mihawk into a duel to the death and realized that he lost when he saw the difference in power. He faced Mihawk and was ready to accept the killing blow because he knew the consequences of asking for a duel to the death and losing. He didn't want any scar in the back because that signifies that he ran away like a coward. It's only because of Mihawk's respect for Zoro honor and bravery that he spared him. Zoro declared he will never lose again both as a vow to his friends and as a oath to himself, one he intends to keep.
23:20 In response to the question, "Why did he do that?" it was to keep Zoro's honor intact. Zoro formally challenged him to a duel to the death and sparing his life without striking a deadly blow would have humiliated Zoro. Mihawke liked Zoro and saw his potential, so striking him down this way was an act of acknowledging him without bringing him shame.
One of the bigger themes of One Piece is that dreams matter more than life, there's no point in living if you aren't pursuing your dream. Kuro wasn't qualified to be a pirate because he gave up on his dream for safety/a leisurely life. A way to read Zoro's backstory is that Zoro and Kuina had the same dream but her life was ripped away by an accident, so why would Zoro not be willing to put his life on the line, because he's seen how easy life is to lose.
Fun facts: Sanji's appearance is inspired by Mr. Pink (Steve Buscemi) from Reservoir Dogs. The restaurant "Baratie" is based on a steak restaurant called "Baratei" where the manga creator, Eichiiro Oda, worked part time as a chore boy when he was young. The restaurant owner said, Oda broke so many plates & ate meals without permission just like when Luffy became a chore boy. The restaurant is still open today & very famous among One Piece fans in Japan.
Luffy isn't naive about the way the world works. He just doesn't care. For Luffy, once he has a goal, nothing is getting in the way. He keeps pestering Sanji because Sanji's reasons for not pursuing his dream are weak. Luffy recognizes that Sanji isn't being completely honest. Luffy is basically the embodiment of the saying, "Where there's a will, there's a way."
When Zoro said "wounds on the back are swordsman greatest shame" it's implies that he ran from the Death match duel that supposedly be until death/ wounds on the back is sneaky attack if you have it it implies that you fight dirty.
I interpreted it as Zoro staying true to the rules of the game: „I get something about you, you drink, you get something about me, I drink.“ They both found out about something from each other‘s pasts, (Nami said Zoro had one more friend than she had as an answer to him), so they both had to take a drink.

Why Mihawk still attacked Zoro: At it's core, the reason is this was a duel to the death. Who would the world's greatest swordsman be if he let Zoro walk away from a duel to the death? There's a few more reasons from the manga (the two of them are literary opposites), but a fun one from this show is Luffy's first flashback with Shanks and the lesson about scars. You're right, Zoro isn't ready to be first mate. But has Luffy truly shown his capability at being an actual captain yet? They haven't even started their journey, and it's a long journey ahead.
30:36 He definitely does. He knows that the pirate he’s chasing is named Luffy, wears a straw hat, and has stretchy powers(because he inflated). He knows that his grandson is named Luffy, wears a straw hat, and has stretchy powers(because he got those powers before he got the hat). So of course he knows it’s his grandson. That would be way too much of a coincidence for it to not be.
Zoro was defeated and knew he couldn't win and he challenged MiHawk to a duel to the death, so Zoro accepted his fate by dying after his losing his challenge.
The naming style follows the eastern style where the family name is said first. Because which family you belong to is important in their cultures and when you do something shameful you don't only sully your name, you dishonor you family name. Opposite is true, if you do something commendable your family shares in the honor. It's like if we named someone Jeffrey Williams it would be ordered like "From the Williams family, Jeffrey" so if someon is introduced with more than one name, the last name you hear is their personal name. Monkey (family name) D. Luffy (personal name) Roronoa (family name) Zoro (personal name) Dracule (family name) Mihawk (personal name) Monkey (family name) D. Garp (personal name) Sometimes an earned nickname is used in place of the family name like "strawhat" or "pirate hunter" or "hawkeye"
Interesting is that after this Zoro grows a lot and he does become the only one in the crew who like... Never actually loses again (this is much later).
Happy birthday to the boy. ^_^ Also Kiya didn't want to hold Usopp from his dream anymore and she wants to hear from him after he gets some real adventures to tell her about
To be fair it was very subdued on purpose , even easy to interpret as sarcasm , then immediately interrupted with the whole duel issue . Also it seems that the Live action does not try to really feature some anime-ish reactions and behaviors . Without those , and the comedic tones , of course some characters will just look like angry or crazy jerk , till the plot moves further along
Zoro is the first new person to come along in a long time that wasn’t scared of Mihawk and Mihawk is bored and wanting a challenge because his only challenger he no longer will fight.
In the anime and the manga there is sentence from Zoro wich says: "I decided to devote my life to my goal, so if I die trying to accomplish, it is ok for me" and he also challenged Mihawk to a duel to the death, so since he lost, he was finishing the duel by dying
I love that Garp is just RIDICULOUSLY strong and never had a fruit. Not a spoiler for the show, but to take down a guy who could break an ice continent with his head he trained by taking down 8 mountains (presumably one hit for each mountain). Garp is unequivocally HIM
I’m pretty sure I eventually start calling him Luffy…..I think? If not, man I’m in for a crap ton more comments yelling at me for calling him by his last name 😬😅
Just a fyi. The show is based off the Japanese manga. In Japan they use sir names (family names) first then given names last. Monkey is the equivalent of an English Last name, while Luffy is his First name. So like his grandpa is Monkey D. Garp
It's funny cause you don't know the comparison of levels because mihawk had his bounty cancelled, but you would instantly know their power difference if you knew he had a 350 million berry bounty😂
The theme of conflicting dreams, actually you've seen it already in the previous episode when Luffy vs Kuro, and it will happen much more in the future, and one of the reasons why luffy never kills his opponents as taking someone dreams is worse than death, like what garp said at 2nd episode
On conflicting dreams, Koby and Luffy literally have conflicting dreams. Thats the point of their two story lines. Also Luffys not as simple minded as you think.
Oh boy you haven't seen how important Zoro is as the first mate.. I just love new fans discovering the characters and falling in love through the journey just as we all did..
Please stop calling him Money His name is Luffy. His last name is D Money. But it's a japanese name which is why it's said Monkey D Luffy where the last name is said before the first name in Japanese.
I'm so glad they committed to Sanji being a smoker, it's a shockingly common thing in the industry, even if it does mess with your tastebuds. Gotta remember, most cooks aren't pursuing a dream career, they're doing a job, and that job is underpaid, high-stress and forces you to work weird hours. A cigarette is one of the healthier ways to relax and destress at 2am after you finish a shift knowing full well you need to be back up in 5 hours to go for another 10 hours in the kitchen.
24:40 This girl said "dumb" for Zoro doing that maybe because she still immature. It's a duel to the death tho. It's okay, we can understand why she can't understand the action. If she understand and saying it dumb, that's disrespect right there. Seppuku is an another good example. She might not even heard that word before either.

Happy Birthday Malachi... advice for driving from a 14 year driver and DOT Truck Driver.
GET ON IT, YOU'LL FIND YOUR INDEPENDENCE MORE
Thank you
The first mate is the captain's most trusted pirate.
Luffy (personal name)
Roronoa (family name) Zoro (personal name)
Dracule (family name) Mihawk (personal name)
Monkey (family name) D. Garp (personal name)
Sometimes an earned nickname is used in place of the family name like "strawhat" or "pirate hunter" or "hawkeye"
HBD bro
loved the fathers face (sorry I don't remember the name) when he sees Mihawk for the first time hehehe hilarious!
26:43 a leader has to keep the moral of the group even if it’s not fine/ok at the time. It’d actually the reason that team leader has their position.
Interesting is that after this Zoro grows a lot and he does become the only one in the crew who like... Never actually loses again (this is much later).
Happy birthday to the boy. ^_^
Also Kiya didn't want to hold Usopp from his dream anymore and she wants to hear from him after he gets some real adventures to tell her about
Our boy Mihawk out here proving size doesn't matter. What a G.
Happy 16th Birthday Malachi!
Every reactor failed to hear Zeff’s positive response to knowing Sanji was feeding a hungry man in his kitchen.
One of The Seven Badass Dudes 😂
Well, Moria isnt badass at all, and Hancock isnt a dude. So, 5 Badass dudes
"One of the seven bad ass dudes"😂
Zoro is the first new person to come along in a long time that wasn’t scared of Mihawk and Mihawk is bored and wanting a challenge because his only challenger he no longer will fight.
In the anime and the manga there is sentence from Zoro wich says: "I decided to devote my life to my goal, so if I die trying to accomplish, it is ok for me" and he also challenged Mihawk to a duel to the death, so since he lost, he was finishing the duel by dying
when is the second coming out?, i know that feel bro, happe birthday btw, great reaction
I love that Garp is just RIDICULOUSLY strong and never had a fruit. Not a spoiler for the show, but to take down a guy who could break an ice continent with his head he trained by taking down 8 mountains (presumably one hit for each mountain). Garp is unequivocally HIM
In accordance with Asian culture, the show puts the family name first. So Luffy is his own name and Monkey is his family name.
One for comment algorithm another after I finish the show😂 Stay awesome Farley Family 🙏
Zoro is like Online best Gamer when he first play Against Competitive player in tournament
I am laughing everytime the dad called Luffy as "Monkey" hahaha but can't wait for all three of you to react the real power of Garp and Mihawk.
I’m pretty sure I eventually start calling him Luffy…..I think? If not, man I’m in for a crap ton more comments yelling at me for calling him by his last name 😬😅
@@3rdstreetreactions it's not really your fault. Just a cultural misunderstanding.
happy bday bro
1:04 Feliz aniversário, dude!
Happy Birthday.
Just a fyi. The show is based off the Japanese manga. In Japan they use sir names (family names) first then given names last. Monkey is the equivalent of an English Last name, while Luffy is his First name. So like his grandpa is Monkey D. Garp
There’s a pin comment. Appreciate it, lol you’re the 100th I think to say it 🤣😅 oops
scars on the back is a swordsmans greatest shame.. same quote as the anime.. cold ass shit
It's funny cause you don't know the comparison of levels because mihawk had his bounty cancelled, but you would instantly know their power difference if you knew he had a 350 million berry bounty😂
28:07 But his dream never died.
Happy Birthday, Malachi!!🎉🎉
Thanks
Birthday Boy said "maybe there's something with his eyes that allows him to see his moves" that's an interesting theory (seasoned One Piece enjoyer)
The theme of conflicting dreams, actually you've seen it already in the previous episode when Luffy vs Kuro, and it will happen much more in the future, and one of the reasons why luffy never kills his opponents as taking someone dreams is worse than death, like what garp said at 2nd episode
Its funny what he said about sanji’s mother 27:48
Happy birthday Malachi
26:55 And a bard!
Happy Birthday Malikai!
On conflicting dreams, Koby and Luffy literally have conflicting dreams. Thats the point of their two story lines. Also Luffys not as simple minded as you think.
Garp in the anime is waaaaaay bigger. Though I am happy they kept his strength despite the actor not being a bit bigger
Happy birthday young man.
Oh boy you haven't seen how important Zoro is as the first mate.. I just love new fans discovering the characters and falling in love through the journey just as we all did..
his first name is not Monkey, naming system follow japan/chinese ways, family name on first, Luffy grandpa name actually Monkey D. Garp
have you watch the Ruruoni Kenshin live action? it’s amazing!!!
🎉🎉happy birthday Malachi 🎊 🎊
Thank you!
