Oh yeah. This is the movie everyone knew Devon Sawa from first. My older sister and her friends were crazy about him back in the day and would freak out any time they watched Casper, or they would pop in the VHS of Casper and fast forward to his scene (Casper in human form). Then Final Destination happened along with Idle Hands (movies/roles he is more known for now). A lot of 90's kids though know Devon Sawa from this one scene in Casper.

Kids films used to be so much 'more' than they are now. They would teach kids about the hard things in life and not shelter them. Watership Down, the Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, and yeah, Casper. These are all really dark by the standards of today's kids movies.

I always took "Let's just say you know three crazy ghosts who kept their word." as Stretch, Stinky, and Fatso WERE goofing on Dr. Harvey originally... but actually COULD contact Amelia. And once Harvey befriended them, they evaluated their new friendship and decided to do it for real, just because they were friends.
The Ghostly Trio might be asshats, but they take care of one another, and Casper (even if they pick on him a lot), and they made it clear they considered Dr. Harvey and Kat to be part of their little found family now.

I thought that he was someone major. I'm not an SNL person though and I was also in first or second grade when the movie came out, so I didn't get who he was back then either. But as an adult, I questioned stuff since there was other guest appearances. I didn't know where to start either on looking up who the father was supposed to be in pop culture. Well, maybe the trivia section on the movie's IMDB page could've been a started. But sometimes the trivia section is a fail/waste of time/unhelpful.

Casper as a character was always dark and sad. Even in his first appearance, they explain the whole reason why he wants to make friends is because he wants to forget he’s a ghost. But later in the short, when everyone is afraid of him, he decides to lie on some train tracks to commit suicide, only for a train to hit him and he squeezes his arm to still see he’s already dead and he breaks down into tears. The movie does replicate the dark themes about lonely people who have trouble connecting finding each other.

Here's a recommendation you won't hear too often: The Frighteners. One of Peter Jackson's earlier films, starring Michael J. Fox. It's not that scary, despite the title. There's more mystery and a bit of comedy. It has a bit of a Ghostbusters feel to it.

Keep in mind that I say this as my memory of this was from when I first watched it not now at the age I am now... But I remember being complete god smacked at how beautiful the young lady in this film was. I've seen her in all kinds of stuff since, but her look and the character she played just worked for the younger version of myself. Really fun movie too. I still love the look of this film even with the effects as they are, they still look pretty good to me.

My theory as to why Casper can't crossover even after his fathers death is that he's a very special kind of ghost. Everyone is put on this earth for a reason and Casper was so sweet and friendly in life that the mortal realm could not bear to be parted from his memory when he died so young. Instead of being stuck with "unfinished business" he has a new lease on life (or should I say afterlife) of spreading friendship as a spirit.

Casper definitely pulled off of the same vibes and love for Beetlejuice, but imo they did a good job with this film. It's underrated. I think it would make for a great one off netflix series. Get some more background on caspers family, what happened to both mothers etc. And the film would allow for a darker more mature series. Perhaps even getting tim burton to help out, but thats a 50 50 if i want it or not. He's got great style but, idk if its necessary.

He felt this movie was okay, but not really great. But the score... One of the best movie scores ever, both in his mind and my own. Casper's Lullabye always manages to get one in the feels, even if it's just a little.

    Who appeared in the mirror:
Clint Eastwood: Action star, still around as a director.
Rodney Dangerfield: stand-up comedian, best known for "I get no respect;" did some movies; passed in 2004
Mel Gibson: actor; kind of vanished from the spotlight after some anti-Semitic comments, but did some directing after.
The Cryptkeeper: from 1989 to 1996, HBO had a horror anthology series called "Tales from the Crypt," which was inspired for a 1950's era comic book series of the same name. The Cryptkeeper was the host, who would introduce each story, and make a few comments after, often with a lot of terrible puns in it. There were also two feature length movies, called "Demon Knight" which got a theatrical release, and "Bordello of Blood" which went straight to video.

Traditionally, as a way of saving time and effort, many cartoon characters, even human ones, are drawn with only four fingers on each hand. And mostly people don't notice. Also, as you've no doubt discovered, not every movie is a classic.
