Being an industrial electrician switching shifts sometimes I lay awake at night - and being an industrial electrician, most times I get harassed a little (in a joking way) from the other guys that I am trying to learn how to make soap! It seems to be less of a male (biker male...) hobby but I love it none the less and last night when I couldn't sleep I got up at 11:30 pm (no I didn't see santa anywhere either!) and made my first batch of soap ever!! It smells Way better than it looks!! I made Coffee Scrub Soap from page 99 of Amanda Gail Aaron's book "The Complete Guide to Natural Soap Making" . I did everything as the recipe, except changed essential oils and increased essential oils to 1oz per pound. I Love It! :) I made some mistakes. (1) I didn't realize I had (4) sections, (3) dividers, in my loaf mold and only 3 colors... Secondly the trace was too light and the colors just ran together when I pulled out my dividers... and Third, when I pulled out my dividers I paused to let them drop and they came apart and all fell right back I to the mold and some bad words came out! (Lucky Santa wasn't here - it was christmas eve last night) I want to say Thank you to you and to everyone who is freely teaching this hobby. Not sure I fit the soap makers "mold" but I love it and I am grateful to you all!!!

Hi Teri, I originally watched this video about 5 to 6 weeks ago. I re-watched it tonight. Although I did not comment on it back then, I was very impressed with your knowledge. You are so smart and so generous with sharing your knowledge. I saved this video to my favorites! I accidentally stumbled upon DIY videos about homemade soap. I find it fascinating! Your videos challenge me, yet give me the confidence to give soap making a try. After carefully studying all of your videos, I finally shelled out the cash to purchase supplies and oil. I made my first batch of soap about three weeks ago. It is Not pretty, but it is soap. I am so excited about trying it out after it fully cures. You are so smart! I enjoy watching you make soap do much. May God bless you much. Victor

I failed making soap yesterday and today
I just understand why thanks to some of your videos
I've bought a electric mixer instead of a blender

@@TreeMarieSoapworks Thanks. Turns out it was not about the type of mixer or blender.
It's the lye who is somehow is fishy and useless.
If you read this message, can you advise me the type of oil who have the most "creamy" potential?
3 years ago I've made 100% olive oil soap for a test. Worked perfectly but I'd like to obtain a creamy/lathery texture when the soap is used.
What is the creamyest additiv oil to oliv oil in your opinion?

Just what I needed. Thank you so much. If you were diving a square Mold ie the dividers have to go in both directions how would you do that? The long side would have to be lined too but it is how to do the dividers that cross the horizontal ones just created I am not sure about??? Hope that makes sense

    • @TreeMarieSoapworks

I am not sure how you would do that. Usually crossing dividers would be notched on opposites ends and fit together...sounds like a lot of work.

In other words, the higher ends would work like tabs. But before I try that, I thought I'd see if there is a reason that wouldn't be practical. Thank you!

Thank you, Teri. I made 2 sets of dividers, one with 2 dividers and one with 3. Your directions were very good and my dividers came out well, but I found the glue problematic since my pipettes will not screw onto the glue tube. What size or type of pipettes do you have? Mine are 3 mI. I cut them at different places along the length. The bulb at the top is too wide, but the rest is too narrow to screw onto the glue tube. Finally, I taped the pipette onto the glue tube nozzle, but the glue just ran out under the tape. In the end, I had to very carefully, hold the glue almost upright and the plexiglass piece at the right angle with my left hand. I know I will have other uses for this glue and would like to find a pipette that will fit onto the tube as you did.
I also use a .03 size of the plastic sheet as the thinner one was out of stock. It seems like a good weight. I made the end pieces a bit higher so I did not need to use tape tabs to pull it out after filling the mold. I would post photos but do not know how to put one on the post here.

These dividers made from plexiglass are reusable. They can be washed and used multiple times.
There are pros and cons to all dividers. These are what work for me, but you may have a different approach.
I like the thinness of them as opposed to the store bought ones because these displace less batter. Also, these can be pulled out in one piece, where I had problems with other designs collapsing because you have to take them out one piece at a time.
Washing is not the easiest. It's better to scrape off as much batter as possible and wash them as soon as you can.

I was hoping this would work but the plastic was concave and there’s no way to glue the pieces together - plastic needs to be 100% flat in order for this to have worked for me. Disappointing also that the sheets and glue were on my fixed income a little bit of investment. Oh well nothing tried nothing gained.

    • @TreeMarieSoapworks
      @TreeMarieSoapworks  8 месяцев назад

I'm sorry to hear that your experience didn't meet your expectations. I understand your frustration, especially considering the investment involved. The plastic can flex a bit, and gradually pouring the batter into each of the compartments can help mitigate this issue. It's worth noting that because the plastic is thin, it doesn't displace as much soap batter as regular dividers.
Cutting straight lines is crucial for a snug fit.
In the video, I demonstrated a technique using a pipette to extend the glue tube's tip for precise application.
      I hope these tips help!
