Hi @BenMeehan, this is a really helpful video, thanks! I am wondering if there is a way to easily convert transcripts into the column format outlined here - or if you manually need to reformat transcripts that are presented in a different way? For example, I am working with transcripts taken directly from Microsoft Teams and the timestamps are next to the speaker name and the text of what was spoken is underneath. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks

Hi Elias, we need more information to be able to offer any advice. You do not mention which version of NVivo you are using (V12 or NVivo 2020 for example) nor which operating system you are on (Windows or MAC) nor what errors, you receive when you try to import the full document. You will also need to check your timestamps do not contain errors (a timestamp starting earlier than the last one finished for example, or missing timestamp). You should further check the timestamps align exactly with the length of the audio into which you are importing it. If you furnish this information we may be able to offer some advice.

So is this timestamp system the default in zoom? I have a bunch of zoom auto transcripts that I may want to use (and also clean up while in nvivo rather than doing it in zoom)

Hi Evan, a timestamp is just an option in most transcribing software. You will know at a glance if you have them or not, because each paragraph will be preceded a time point from the media.

@@qdatraining I just don't know if I want to use software like this because it really seems like a ton of tweaking just to get the files to work. Nothing seems as automatic as it should.

@@Catalonia You don't have to sync text and transcripts if you don't want to. There is nothing to stop you simply importing the transcripts as they are, with or without timestamps and coding them. Syncing text and media is just an option because some qualitative researchers like to listen to the voice as they are coding as well as reading text. Quite a lot of content is lost in the transcribing process such as silences, or tone of voice. "I love my boss" could mean i love him or hate him; it depends how I said it. You can also import audio with no transcript and code direct from the audio. These are all merely choices/options.

@@qdatraining thanks! Yeah come to think of it, I'm not really sure I need it synched. I'm just thinking of using software to find patterns in my interviews.
