Do we need to have a scrap drive for you, Miss Shannon? I think it's great that you do this because it gives all of us permission to do it too and not feel crazy alone! I like to color like you like to glue although I do like to glue too. I've been doing this in a book for awhile but not a lot, now I am. I love to flip through and see a spot that needs a little something and then I'm on the lookout. Other times I find a little piece of something that means nothing to anyone else but I like it so now I glue it somewhere in my book. I guess until you gave us permission it's like this isn't "ART" but I'm not doing it for art I'm doing it because I like to. My husband just went through our old phone books yesterday and put them in the recycling bin but I snagged one of those little ones like you have! I like the feel of the paper...maybe it will be my zibaldone...like my others!
Lottie Faith I like phone book paper too. It's just so thin and crispy and delightful :) I like to do something creative every day but I would stress myself out if I tried to make "good art" on a daily basis. I just can't, and don't even want to. I just want to play a little bit every day then make my "good art" whenever I get inspired and all that daily playing is what inspires me.
Love how big she became!!! She really is something in herself. Love that you used a pink plastic spoon as a tab!!! How clever. You never cease to amaze me!!! And that zibaldone it's the ancestor to the en masse collection. Love how you explain back then the fun you have to just glue stuff down!!!!!
Love the duck head cut out - your muse came out to play and you need to save her work - it is strange and fits the book and it makes me laugh, too. Glad you are feeling better and down to just hacking LOL.
Awesome pages...some of them would make fab digis....and Bertha only gets better. She's wearing it all well. Those cards are amazing...such cool ideas. A joy watching!
Hi Shannon again! Now I see that you're using your cutouts actually! How much fun! I just remembered that I have catalogs in my stash just because of you! Now I remember the whole point of having them! And why I took a whole year of a Cosmo magazine subscription that was given to me too! I don't have no way nearly so many cutouts as you are, but... well, I thought that I have some! I want to have that kind of AAA Rte/ junk journal! And I just saw your video about "journal by the 5ths", and I want to try it, and I had a great idea that I have to try out all the new art journalling techniques that I've been learning lately! Maybe I should create a new challenge, like "5 pages, 10 techniques, 15 minutes a page ", and call it "5-10-15"?
I'm pretty sure that was Foghorn Leghorn with a mighty sore throat who guided your hand in your National Geographic clipping! That's who I saw and I'm sticking to it. Great fun and lots of laughs and inspiration. Thanks again.
Have you heard about Peter Beard's diaries? He kind of had the same crazy big diaries, and a lit of them, and made odd scraps, everyday trash, and his own photos and collages, abdominal journalling. He lived in Africa, and made photos for fashion magazines with models there. His journal are a lot of fun! Just Google it!
I love your vids Ms. Shannon... "Im gonna go hack for a while " lol that made me smile today... Your just all around fun... I loved art as a kid and younger school years with glue the smell of Elmers Paste I wish they would bring that back out.. But your like one of those teacher sounding ladies we never forgot when we are kids.. I love it... Like DeDe and Gina love them too...
I would love to sit down with a glass of wine and spend an hour looking at everything in Big Bertha. Your constructed images are just so much fun. I find it interesting that I have the same image of Charlize Theron in one of my junk journals.
SAVE THE DUCK!!!! Bertha rocks, and OMG....I am TOTALLY going to start using up my scraps that way! I have so many I can't even organize them anymore. Shannon, you are an inspiration to so many, especially me. We all continue to feed off your energy, your sense of humour and your creativity! Thanks for sharing!
I resonate with the whole gluing stuff down. Never realized it until I started watching your videos and thought, "oh my gosh, I love to glue random stuff!" As a kid I enjoyed gluing magazine images on paper. Kind of captivated by the whole zibaldone thing. Thanks for sharing.
So glad you introduced big Bertha to me, especially on that gorgeous iconic brown table! She is plumpily rather sexy and I love her coat! As for the Zibaldoni (correct plural for zibaldone...one zibaldone, two zibaldoni) I think I am going to sort of copy that idea...my accumulation of scraps is beginning to plunge me into a state of anxiety....love the doodled cover you did when you were languishing in your sick bed (hope the cough goes away soon) and please please please do not cover the suck beak! You just crack me up!
I am starting to get seriously interested in doing some collage books of my own. I have a squillion magazines lying around from free subscriptions I got online...I always think there has to be something I can use them for and am loathe to get rid of them. I think the answer is right here. Thank you for another awesome video, Shannon!
Big Bertha is looking great. =) I hope you're feeling much better now. Thank you for sharing your Zibaldones, I enjoyed all 4 of them. =) I love the doodle covered one, it's Beautiful. =) I love your cards, too. ;)
I love Bertha! I really like all the pockets & inserts. Do you have a video on making 3 or 4 fold inserts? I'm pretty new to this & would like to add inserts & fold out pages etc. to my journals. Love your stuff Shannon! Cheers! Bev
Beverly Stout I usually don't make them but instead use something already made. All the fold outs and inserts in this book are free paint sample things from the hardware store!
Love this Shannon! I also like the gluing this kind of random stuff too. What is the primary glue you are using on this and does it make the pages (especially those magazine pages) ripple up? Even glue sticks make those magazine pages ripple sometimes.
Terri Daly For the tissue papers and napkins I'm using mostly Elmer's Craft Bond gel glue. For magazines and regular papers I've been using an Elmer's glue stick.
Frances Lynch I didn't do a video of the binding but all I did was sew in each signature individually. I left a little space between each one so that I can add signatures if I want to. You can use a pamphlet stitch to sew them in or a long stitch or use your sewing machine or whatever. I used a long stitch. You can see the stitching in this video even though the spine construction is completely different- ruclips.net/video/lpXWmM8fwCw/видео.html
***** In one of them I glued 5 or 6 pages together so it ended up with just a few really thick pages. In the other one I only glued 2 together so it has lots more pages in it.
Love this and your JB5 and your Bigger Bertha. They are giving me permission to just glue things down because I enjoy it. I don't have to make any extreme art :-) I'm loving it!!
Here is a playlist of Big Bertha videos. The one at the bottom of the list titled "Giant Paint Swatch Junk Journal" is the first one I made. I hadn't even named her yet at that point! ruclips.net/p/PLEBktQ6jtRkm1Bk6fnFwjhZa24NF-wCk1
hello, love watching your videos. very inspiring and relaxing. One question: Is there a video about how you created Big Bertha? I've seen her mentioned in a few videos but havent seen how she came to be i guess you could call it lol. Thank you again.
Ha! I didn't film the creation of Big Bertha but I did film her shortly after she was born and before she had a name. :) You can see all videos related to her here: ruclips.net/p/PLEBktQ6jtRkm1Bk6fnFwjhZa24NF-wCk1
okay, FB statuses about how if either of you are missing to blame the other. No Dexter hints on clean up. Great all of us viewers are going to end up on a witness stand aren't we??
Had to watch this again.....question: can we see the zibaldoni post doodling? (Note: one zibaldone, plural two zibaldonI, not zibaldones.feel very pedantic tonight ehehehehe) dont kill me....
Enrica Mcintosh You'll probably have to remind me about that plural thing...a LOT! LOL I'm doing good to remember how to pronounce it at all! When I get to the post-doodling point I will certainly share...but it could take some time!

all it needs is an eye!

I love the way you think!!! You inspire me to keep on doing what I love!
Go for it!!

How inspiring are you, thanks so much big hugs Caroline xxx
Caroline Withington Thanks for watching Caroline!
@Shannon love that you shared Big Bertha and your Zibaldoni. It's cool to see how other artists make decisions about their art!
Thanks for watching!
I would love to sit down with a glass of wine and spend an hour looking at everything in Big Bertha. Your constructed images are just so much fun. I find it interesting that I have the same image of Charlize Theron in one of my junk journals.
Ithlia H That ad seems to be in pretty much every magazine I pick up so she's in several of my journals!
love all of the pages!!!!!

SandiMo77 Isn't it funny how we forget about little things like that? I guess we tell ourselves we're too old or something.
The Tomboy multi glue drives me crazy! I just can't use that stuff. Sorry to hear you're not feeling well, but glad you're on the mend
Erika Grasmick Thanks Erika!~

Enrica Mcintosh So tell me...is zibaldoni pronounced the same as zibaldone? If not, how is it different?
@@ShannonGreen
Zibaldone (singular) pronounced zee bal doh nay
Zibaldoni (plural) pronounced zee bal doh nee

LadyTrayce A squillion? That must be somewhere between a bazillion and a kagillion.
Sounds about right...lol. It seems like they are everywhere, anyway...lol.
I love this journal so much. You’ve inspired me to make my own!

artzology Thanks Deb!
Wow! Bertha is a massive, gorgeous lady!
sk crafter thanks for watching!
How BIG is Bertha?
And, did you sew in your pages? They look like heavy material...are they card stock?
Shannon! I will pronounce the word in my next video, singular AND plural! The z is also slightly different...lol...getting picky here ahaha
Enrica Mcintosh I'm sure I'll butcher it but at least I can try to get it right!
How you start with a big Bertha +Shannon

Oh no, you're going to de-bill the volcano duck?! :)
I keep saying that but guess what? It's still there :)
I see a rooster
I have been "commonplacing" for years and didn't even know it. lol
UHU sounds like what we Aussies would call out to a neighbor over the fence to attract their attention when we need to borrow a cup of sugar.
Is Bertha in the rest home, or is she just hibernating✂️🔖📖🙄👋🤣
Sonya calls her book big Bertha
Thanks for watching!
Bigger Bertha becomes more interesting.
MR.VICTOR CRAFTER She's full of character, that's for sure!
Bigger Bertha rocks...please, please, please don't chop off the "duck bill". Just glue it down...it is what it is. :-)
Cathy Rose Creations Ha! Well....okay. I'll leave it just for you ;)
Shannon Green Thank you Shannon...LOL
