    Happy New Year! OMG! I did this a year ago with a Martha Stewart spring time magazine, because the pictures in it were pretty, and her magazines were sturdy. I glued several pages together, for strength, making sure that the lovely images were face up, and if I couldn't work that out, I simply tore out the other pretty ones out and glued them where I wanted them. I used the colors in the photos as my prompts, and then began having a ball. I glued, snipped and taped my way to nirvana! The bonus is that I have finally found a safe place for all my beloved treasures that have been knocking around in boxes, drawers, books and envelopes for 20+ years. Now they're all safely tucked away in my awesome junk treasure journal and I smile at my messy, fat book of memories every time that I see it sitting on the shelf above my desk. Have a Fab. 2016, and stay as much fun as you've always been. lol

    Yes...I really do want to move to Oklahoma (fingers crossed behind my back) No, I didn't realize you had an influx of catalog requests. No, I'm not a mixed media artist (fingers crossed again) Yes, please put me on the waiting list to receive a catalog when you get your next truck load in. Yes, I promise not to tell anyone that it's free (fingers crossed). Shannon Green? Never heard of her....(fingers and toes and eyes crossed). Soooo, you are saying you will send me TWO books if I throw Shannon under the bus? Hmmm, let me think about this.....Will you still send me one book if I stick with my first story? Yes? Ok...Nope....still never heard of Shannon Green. lololololol
    Love your book. I've been on a mission to use my stuff for a while now but I haven't done it this way. I may try this on a smaller scale. I LOVE your stamp page. It makes me happy. :-) Now, to find the time to add one more "gotta do this" to my list. :-)

    Your BRILLIANT!!! I absolutely LOVE the postage stamp page!! I collect used postage stamps (just because they look cool). I found an old "Circulation Statistics Record" book from my school library. The pages are thick, and I think this book would make a perfect en masse collection journal. Thank you so much for sharing!!!

    What a stunning magazine cover. Oh, I want one.
    I love the postage stamp page. I save and use all the stamps I can get my hands on. I have a box covered in them and guess what I keep in it - stamps, of course!
    I just covered a small pencil box with them, too. Postage stamps are mini works of art, right?
    I can see that you are going to have lots of fun with this project.

    I live in Oklahoma and plan on driving to dallas this week to visit my family and I'm excited about it since I know I can stop at the travel Plaza going both ways to get travel guides and not have to wait on them to come in the mail! • @ShannonGreen
      @ShannonGreen  8 лет назад +1

      +lebiram45 Yay, a partner in crime! Or art, rather ;) I used all kinds of different paint throughout the book but most of the white paint that I used to cover the text is some interior latex house paint that I got off the oops rack at Home Depot. My color pages have a variety of different paints on them, mostly acrylics. There were a couple of pages that tried to stick together and normally when that happens I give them a light coat of Daddy Van's Beeswax Furniture Polish. But since these pages are works in progress I didn't want the wax to interfere with future gluing so instead I brushed on some cornstarch baby powder which does a pretty good job at reducing stickiness. Even just plain cornstarch from your kitchen will work.

    super fun idea. I have some blank books from the dollar spot at Target that i have been hoarding with no designated use and I am going to use those. they come 3 to a package and I have a couple packages so I'll be able to get a bunch of prompts done. since they are staple bound I might put them into a cover using a midori style binding. Ordered the Oklahoma book so i can have the cover lol

    OMG: You are my hero! I have just started art journaling, and am overwhelmed on how to start or what to do first (Actually did a couple of pages and they were hideous, so I threw them away, but I am not discouraged. I will just try again.). It was fun just getting all of my supplies......lol. I am going to convince my children to stop calling me a "hoarder" and start thinking of me as an "accumulator". Another amazing video. Years ago, before the internet, when I lived in an 'artistic' desert, I started cutting out images from magazines and creating collage pages of like items in photograph books. I have a photograph album of flowers (collated by color naturally), one of furniture pieces by type, and several of trinkets or doodads.. I've been thinking of pulling them apart and trying to glue down the pieces into art journal pages - on the other hand, I like the idea of the photo albums being treated as art journals on their own. What do you think?

    • @ShannonGreen
      @ShannonGreen  8 лет назад +1

      +Regina Read I have a couple of old journals that I've taken apart and used some of the pages as elements for new art journal spreads. It's a great way to breathe new life into old projects.

    Hi Shannon, if you are still working in this book, could you please demonstrate what you are talking about piecing two magazines together on the seam and what glue you are using to seal pages and gluing in the collection list? sorry but just not "getting it" quite yet. TIA xo

    • @ShannonGreen
      @ShannonGreen  8 лет назад +1

      +Cynthia All I did was remove the back cover of magazine 1 and the front cover of magazine 2. Then glue the last page in magazine 1 to the first page in magazine 2. I added extra glue (Tacky glue) along the outside of the spine in the seam where the 2 magazines joined.
      I don't seal any of the pages before I work on them. Some of them have been randomly gessoed, others have been painted, a few have background papers glued in, and a lot of them are just as-is.
      I use a variety of glues to attach my items, just depending on the item. I use glue stick, white glue, tacky glue, Beacon 3-in-1 (I used that on my collection list since I had laminated it so it was slick), Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue, Mod Podge, etc.

    You come up with the most creative ideas and so different all the time. This is great and my favorite is the HUGE journal that you did the with paint swatches. That was a real treat. Do you have a video regarding how you made this fantastic journal? I have no luck with glue and magazine pages because they always look terrible when I start to glue 3 or 4 pages together. What glue did you use? This is going to be a full-time relaxing project. I have so much "stuff" to use and I will be days just separating it. lolThanks for sharing.

    • @ShannonGreen
      @ShannonGreen  8 лет назад

      +scobbydotwo To glue the 2 magazines together I used The Ultimate glue by Crafters Pick. It is very similar to Aleene's Tacky Glue. I spread it with a card to get a thin even layer and it worked just fine. Yes the pages buckle a little, that's just what they do with any kind of wet glue. But that's okay in a junk journal situation like this.
      I used a glue stick for the postage stamp pages and plain ol' Mod Podge to glue down the wax paper scraps. Watch closely when I show my Use It Up Journal...notice how the pages are wrinkled and buckled and uneven. At first they might look like something you'd want to fix or redo, but when you start adding stuff to your journal, all those awful glued together pages suddenly start to make sense!

    Thanks for the inspiration! I am a lemming - so you know I stopped watching your video and RAN to the website to get my guide ordered!! While I was there I figured, hmmm...some of the other pamphlet titles sounded really interesting too. So I picked a bunch of them!! My sweet dear mom who passed in Sept 2014 (she was 100!) was born in Hastings, OK. She had 9 siblings. I've actually BEEN to Oklahoma once. So I figured that I have a real connection and a REAL excuse to order the books - LOL! Oh, and DO NOT tell the PC Police this...but I looked in one of them for a description and learned (I did not know this) that Oklahoma means (Google it - I don't want to offend anyone)! I swear, if they go and change the name to something else, how will I ever be able to break out and sing O-K-L-A-H-O-M-A in Walmart again?!!!
