Thanks for great inspiration. I scan color images of beautiful, dramatic landscapes from magazines and print them black & white, then use with text on black base page. I love the idea of stenciling the text, maybe adding a touch of muted color with watercolor. Also think I'll start using architectural images, like cityscapes, antique structures. There are unlimited options with these techniques. YUM!
Hi Evelyn. Thanks for comparing notes. Printing in black and white never occurred to me but now I am intrigued. Yes to stencils but in my own work I also would use something looser such as the watercolour you're thinking of, or maybe ink in a mister, for a really soft and messy stencilled background over text. Love your ideas! Kelly
Hi Kelly, I love all of your ideas here! I particularly loved when you said something “sends” you! I say that often when I create something that just hits all the right elements!
Hello there. I watch a lot of old movies and one of my favourite old-timey expressions is "solid sender", as in "that cat is a solid sender". So, yeah, stuff sends me. Glad to hear I'm not the only one.
Hi Kimberly. That is exactly what I did. I am lucky enough to have lots of vintage paper but when I learned how to "see" what was in coffee table books and magazines, my creative options went into outer space.
I am so impressed with your artistic eye! I find making journals working with mixed media extremely relaxing as well as shear enjoyment so I seek to learn from those of you who have been creating for years. I must share that over the past 5 years of listening, watching and doing, you are one of three creators that I will always follow, listen to and learn from. Thank you so very much!
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you create all these amazing and useful ideas using book pages. Things I probably wouldn’t have thought about before. I will definitely try to download the ladies thank you for them. I ❤ love all these ideas too. xxxx Mags
Great ideas here! I glue washi tape with sticky side up on paper to then stick on my text from books. The words come off easily and you can reapply with more words. Run as many strips of washi down the page as you need to hold on your cut out words!
Thank you, Anne. This was almost part of the original text video and then it just got longer and longer and I realised, nope - definitely enough here for its own gig. 😺
If you want to make one of your own, Kathy, here's the tutorial. Now go get 'em! Kelly ruclips.net/video/70Ntf1b2SVI/видео.html&ab_channel=BookandPaperArts
As always, your video is filled with great ideas! I love the use of text, maybe because I like to read and write (on paper, not online books 😉) or maybe because I really like the effect of a text as background. Ok, I’ve managed to watch all your videos ☺️💙♥️🩵🖤🩷💚🧡🤎💛🩶❤️💜
Thanks bunches but I think it is a cheapie that I bought in a pack of stencils at Michael's or maybe even a big box store when I was in the states. That's one of the things I love about stencils is that even cheap, easy to source ones make terrific effects. Keep me posted on whether you can find it or one similar!

You presented many good ideas Kelly, thanks so much. I am going to take a look at my coffee table size books and at magazine ads differently now!

I love repurposing and recycling so this is my go-to post! Most of the pages I add to my junk journals are from books and images!

By any chance do you remember where you got that scrolly stencil you used on the book pages behind the Madonna? I LOVE that stencil.
