This song I relate to and it breaks down one thing; those who are unique, carrying themselves differently and have a difficult time fitting into what society considers to be normal and being dismissed as weird & psycho(CRAZY as the song describes). All it is people who don't fit in just have their own mind & just want to go down their own path doing what makes them happy.
In m "semi older age" - I still like this with family regarding politics mainly....other shit too...Anyhoo - here I am re-enjoying and putting my brain back together. Thankful
I can relate, this happened to me because I made a suicidal statement at the wrong time. This happened to me seven years ago, 2016. This tunes message is correct.
Nice job with the subtitles, thanks for posting this! I've been diggin' this tune since my high school years when it first came out, but some of the lyrics I just could never understand. 😂
This music have a insane rhythm, and It's awesome, despite I am writing in english without the Google Translator, I have difficulties to understand the lyrics of the musics (principally this, because It's fast). Some musics I understand some parts of lyrics, It looks some kind of prank, but it's true. Greetings from Brazil
This is from the 80's they are part of the Orange County Punk scene. It's very fast. This band now plays thrasher metal now. Other punk banks in this era are Social Distortion, Dead Kennedy's and Circle Jurks. Just to name a few.
Hahaha I had to go look it up: HFCS put in Pepsi same year ST debut release, ST was on sucrose Pepsi when Institutionalized was written. Fun fact: Pepsi was first 16oz soda with screw top and had a styrofoam label to retain chill. These were ubiquitous in SoCal early 80s, until cherry coke. Our FDA is super sus around anything addictive 🙄
1 more thing. On top of the fact this tune set a bar. In Toronto, a burger joint in Scarborough had a cook that every time someone ordered a cheeseburger Johnny would announce "cheeseburger, cheeseburger no coke, Pepsi! It was legendary! So ya this is 1 tune that set the bar for California thrash!
This and a slayer album... thanks for allowing that mom. Even if you didnt know you bought it and hated it. It shaped me forver. I was only 9 years old Haha
This is what happens when Miss Togar from the Ramones movie “Rock N’ Roll High School” and Jack Nance from “Eraserhead” are your mom and dad! I’m thinking that wouldn’t it have just been easier to give him the Pepsi? He just wanted one Pepsi, for cying out loud!! 🥤😆😂
This song really does have a strong negative opinion towards institutions in general. We were just talking about the gilded age, occurring between 1877 and 1900, in History 110 at SDSU, and how institutionalization of the public school system was considered progress. It is interesting to see here that a crucial philosophical question is being asked from the point of view of a kid, or more specifically, a minor who for the most part has no say or vote on the rules that he must follow. That question, in my interpretation, is as follows: What do we do when institutions go from providing a service that the people want, to telling the people that they DO want the service that they provide? All he wanted was a Pepsi. What he got was a straight jacket.
Man I need you to post more comments on all the shit I listen too, love some knowledgeable thought out post over "I'm 5 and I love this music gawd why was I born so late" shit posts anyday......"And when I'm rush and on my run~I feel just like Jesus' son"
I JUST WANTED A PEPSI BUT MA KEPT SCREAMING NOO!! YOUR ON DRUGGS!! U SAID NO MOM IM FINE IM JUST THINKING CAN YOU GIVE ME A PEPSI AND SHE KEPT SCREAMING NOOO!!! YOUR ON DRUGS!!!! ALL I WANTED IS ONE PEPSI AND SHE WOULDNT GIVE IT TO ME!!! I JUST WANTED ONE PEPSI AND SHE WOULDNT GIVE IT TO ME!!! SHE WOULDNT GIVE IT TO ME XD best part of the song XD
Yea,cept the part where as the dad i'd say "get your 19 yr old thinking unemployed ass outta your smoke filled room and get your own damn pepsi, mamas boi"....~ST untouchable~
For those that might not know the past history. This was the quintessential start of the Southern California punk rock scene, making it in to more mainstream music. I still had to sneak and hide the album. Needless to say parents were none too pleased about this new movement. During this time there was a facility called charter hospitals they used to have some of the worst commercials. It was nice that people were getting help for their substance abuse misuse issues. Unfortunately what happened was parents who were themselves alcoholics and addicts started to lock up their rebellious young teenagers. It was always interesting sitting in on those meetings when the parents got called on the carpet because 9 times out of 10 we got our drugs and alcohol from our friends parents. So this was a mantra to the youth. We see your hypocrisy. We know it's all BS and we're calling you out. My mom used to look at me so confused. She'd say why are you guys so angry, why do you want to listen to music like that?😂😂
this song i remember São João da Boa Vista - sp, the olders in here are so many shits.......(in Brazil - perhelps, arround Minas Gerais state) kkkshss.
The thing is, no matter how ironic or "crazy" this sounds this is spiritual enlightenment disguised as a "heavy metal/punk rock" song. Where Mike says that "all he wanted was a Pepsi" all he really wanted was to be happy so the Pepsi lyric was a metaphor for what he really wanted and if one is truly honest with themselves it's what everyone wants in the end is to be truly happy and that never comes through outside influences, "your churches and your schools" but only within ourselves.
another good one about the breakdown in parental/child relations is ‘my stars ‘ from alice cooper’s record school’s out. this song is one of my favorites . ditto my stars , both epic masterpieces
Foda demais. Descreve exatamente como me sinto nesse mundo escroto de pessoas e instituições que nos enlouquecem e depois nos condenam por estarmos loucos. 🤘🤘🤘
This song is basically about rebelling against authority but in this case singles out the patents. I get it I am one now but what this song fails to address is that alot of the time the majority of parents are just trying to do their best and we should be grateful. Problem with that is when we are young some of us don't really understand this. Lastly, it's kinda funny this song was sampled in the first installment of IRONMAN, when Tony Stark was busy building in his garage.
RUclips did not give me the song after my search. It went to suicidal help for me. I just wanted the song because my sister told me her boyfriend said she is crazy. Bad break up for her and crazy is possible too, lol!
this song is more relevant than ever in 2023
Yes it is and some people don't realize. This is the music they're grandparents listened too.😂😂
Oh yeah, i relate to it on a deep personal level
Bodycount's version is funny.
someone give him a pepsi already
+Crosssover92 just one pepsi!
haha
you want a pepsi pal you’re gonna pay for it!
@crossover Fucking RUclips. Someone wrote this hilarious comment 6years ago and I am now lmfao / snorting because of it
Pepsi isn’t allowed in mental hospitals unfortunately
a miscommunication over pepsi leading to threats of institutionalization is the most american thing ever this isn't punk this is folk music
I love how this song is just the most relatable rant ever
This song I relate to and it breaks down one thing; those who are unique, carrying themselves differently and have a difficult time fitting into what society considers to be normal and being dismissed as weird & psycho(CRAZY as the song describes). All it is people who don't fit in just have their own mind & just want to go down their own path doing what makes them happy.
@Carli Moore I will assume it's the one where Mike becomes institutionalized because he couldn't take the trauma of not getting a pepsi.
@@Be_anxious_for_nothing 😂
@Carli Moore No movie. Just an old school punk tune from the early 80's.
That's what the vids on MTV looked like back then. (not much production 😂)
But did you ever get a Pepsi?
The ones stuck on "Pepsi" really missed the point. 😢
True poetry. Such a great track.
"When I went to YOUR schools" fav part
Still relevant in 2023.
And in 2024
In m "semi older age" - I still like this with family regarding politics mainly....other shit too...Anyhoo - here I am re-enjoying and putting my brain back together. Thankful
LETS JUST TALK ABOUT THAT THIS ONE IS WAY TOO ACCURATE!
Definitely hits.. The soul
😮 I was Sam Walmarts Son he never Knew he had. I was forgotten at K Mart. I remember hearing the stories 😮
I listen to this song at least once a week.
Dude just wanted a Pepsi
My all times favourite punk tune . Such an aggressive 👊
Aw! How sweet. Eraserhead's baby is all grown up, and now it wants a pepsi.
Tbh I I understand this fictionalized person more and more as I grow older and older
Thats the point of a good song/lyrics. Its timeless.
Weirdly this still relates.
That shit dont get old
I can relate, this happened to me because I made a suicidal statement at the wrong time. This happened to me seven years ago, 2016. This tunes message is correct.
Literally my 80's anthem
I have and always will be your friend, ...... to anyone who feels the same as I do abouthisong. Who loves ya?

Truth
The guys who made the Pepsi commercial must have taken this as a documentary
I remember watching this with my brother when we were kids and hardly understanding any of it without lyric captions but laughing my butt off.
Pretty easy to understand imo lol
@@illskilled1 yeah well we can't all be as smart as you

They're legends I wish they get the reignition they deserve. These new rappers are the offsprings of them. Xxx, suicide boys etc..

This song sums up the whole year of 2022 for me
Still brilliant ta this day
hi~ welcome to 2022~~ Aloha~~ from Hawaii~~ 🤙🤙
Thank you. Environmental family breakdown.
Maybe if Mike would have realized how much corn syrup was in that Pepsi , he wouldn't been institutionalized.
Hahaha I had to go look it up: HFCS put in Pepsi same year ST debut release, ST was on sucrose Pepsi when Institutionalized was written.

they used to lube plane engines with that shit steer clear
Hands down, 1 tune that set the bar for real!
Hi Vellia it's me Richard and Velia Kelley to my honey bun ❤🎉😮😅😊

Behind the apparently superficial lyrics this song has a cool antipsychiatric manifesto!

Kendall Jenner could have easily fixed this.
John Pagdilao Dude-this came right to mind!!! Bravo!

Thinking back on all of those cubes of Pepsi... Maybe THEY were the gateway drug that should have been discussed in D.A.R.E. classes.

You'll have to forgive Mike. He's just not himself without his Pepsi. Don't judge him based on this song alone. He really is a nice guy 😆
Dad is mowing the driveway! HE'S NORMAL LOL!!!
He didn't need a pepsi he needed an snickers you aren't you when you're hungry

Classic
It does not gel old. Go check the version by Body Count, it´s outstanding.
It totally is! Saw that first then came here for this version. Though I remember playing it on Guitar Hero II a long time ago!
Wow, Jack Nance is the dad! Any David Lynch fans out there?
I just noticed that! And was like is that...? Then saw your comment! Cool
I'm here for the new pepsi advert
