I bought Cinders a year ago. Can't get enough of it. I'm recording an album right now and using Cinders for all heavy sounds with starts and LPs. The pedal sounds amazing and mindblowlingly blends in the mix.
i'm live in iran ,anything related to electric guitar is hard to find and understand here(for some silly reasones i'm not going to say it) this one pedal was 1 of my very few options to buy for myself thanks for in depth review
I heard there's a couple black metal bands there.snd that it's hard to have a band like that in that area.i wish you had more access to more pedal options bro.
It is a clone of the BOSS Blues Driver. They sound indistinguishable. If the BOSS moves you then this is a well built option for less than half the price. TC did not set out to make a good sounding pedal (although they may have) they just rehoused the Behringer "Blues Overdrive" (which is discontinued). It's the exact same circuit as the BOSS. And Behringer aren't the only ones to clone the BOSS.
Boss and tc dont sound same! Depends of what are you playing, what pickups, what sound you want to hear... I have tc and I dont think to replace pedal.. and I dont think that there is not better pedal for me, but it is expensiv job( best if someon make pedal for you but it is clear that is not worth doing...) realy depends what you whant... slow blues with not a lot drive tc is working good job!
I have this pedal and I agree with his summary of this pedal. It does what he says it does. The Joyo “Sweet Baby” is a better pedal that actually accomplishes what this pedal sets out to do.
Thanks for all of your videos they were helpful and specifically informative of how to use these pedals to get the sound you are looking for. I bought pretty much all off the T C Electronics effects pedals.
Hi Henning. I think you should do the demos with more simple gear! Mid price guitar and some kind of "F" or "M" amp with a 57. It's a very nice demo, but... It's look like your are in Mars and we, common "earthers" don't get the "real" waves! I think you get the point. Thanks
This is a revamp of a Boss Blues Driver, not supposed to bring out mids. I used mine for the first time last night with a band, if I took down the highs it warmed up, a slightly fuzzy edgy tone when cranked through a Deluxe Reverb RI, not smooth like a KOT, it’s a BD, but it sounded really good👍 It’s supposed to sound like when you crank your amp, which I believe it does, FYI that’s also what a Klone does, but that adds more mids as well.
I think you a right... Throwing a CInders/blues driver on a semi-driven tube amp (like most amps in this clip) with the tone knob at noon and drive past 12 oclock is not a great idea.. The circuit is very bright with tone at noon and the drive is a bit fizzy past noon... I have had best luck with the BD2 on a clean amp either with drive at 3 o'clock and tone just below 10 oclock.. A nice higher drive sound or as a low drive pedal with gain at 11 oclock and again the tone knob below 10 o'clock.. With the tone knob above 10.30 it actually sounds like it boost highs.. Which I don't want to happen on a drive pedal on a clean amp.. Snowy White uses a stock Boss BD2 on a VOX AC30 with drive close to noon and tone knob close to 11 oclock. It seems to work well but he is often using an out of phase Les paul setting (both pickups but wired out of phase) on the darker normal channel of the VOX amp..
Listening with earphones, I had the same impression. Lack of warm presence or warm brightness. The smooth swell from the gain knob seemed interesting, though (maybe useful for more instruments, other than just guitar)... ... if it's possible to add around the pedal, back into the signal chain, what it removes. Somewhere, it seemed to provide some warmth to the mids, for velvet fuzzy tones. Then, it could be good as a side soundtrack tool too, inside a theater, for a band providing some soundtrack riffs for a live theatrical play, during a low volume thrilling scene. Then, a footswitch changes the pedals, puting the Cinders out of scene and summoning another pedal, and make the audience jump from their chairs with a brighter sound (a unison bending, just a little bit of controlled harshness and then removed) and an unexpected scene. Cheers!!! Luke
after many video on this pedal , i take the Electro Harmonix east river drive , but for the compressor and mu reverb i take the TC Forcefield and TC skyverb
To be fair, TC don't describe this pedal as a compressing, mid-boost, tube screamer-type pedal; they do describe it as "warm" which is very subjective, and "transparent," which is the opposite of mid-compression. I notice in their demo they appear to combine it with some slapback, which may be to hide any "coldness". I think its best at low gain. Transparent high gain is hard to do cheap.
100% dead on comments. That being said the Joyo “Sweet Baby” which is a clone of the Mad Professor’s “Sweet Honey” is the best transparent low to mid gain pedal I have heard so far.
Looking at the size snd build quality of these, and I have to wonder - did TC secretly create a line of mod platforms? The Cinders OD just screams (no pun intended!) "open me up and mod me!". If I were more the tinkering type I would buy a Cinders right away, and then get a JHS kit, or Keeley kit, or Analogman or whatever, and go to town. The big, solid housing makes it perfect for that.
Well that did not surprise me to be honest but I was not really looking to buy this one as I recently bought a TC Mojomojo, £36.00 on Amazon in England at the mo, and that has all the warmth you need with its very usable eq. To be fair tho I can see this pedal working in a punk/garage band style as you say more like a mild distortion above 2'O;clock might be what some people like. Like your honest opinion, don't stop doing that, its such a rare thing on the net these days.
Was digging this with the AC30 a lot, though maybe a bit spikey. I think it would work well with amps that aren't as gainy naturally, like the AC (unless you're trying to communicate with the Space station... Or level buildings as we all know!), used like a much more tame OCD maybe? Would be interested to try that! Love my OCD/Joyo Ultimate Drive (preferring the Joyo these days, plus it slays on bass) with my AC for rawk/metal stuffs.
Out of curiosity, how do you know that these are reworked Behringer pedals and not TC originals (for whatever it matters) ? Looking at their budget price positions, I tend to agree 100% with your statement but I thought I would rather ask. Kudos for the presentation.
EytschPi42 You mentioned in another video that you were wondering if tc wanted these to be released or if behringer pushed it to happen. The fact that tore has mentioned it a few times times that they're reworked behringer pedals suggests they don't want the association and want to make it clear what they are
Krish Patel sure, TC stands for high quality, great products and the upper price segment. Behringer they have good stuff, eg their mixers are great, but still they are brand marked as the copy cats and they have a lot of low budget products. Pro for Behringer pedal, they will be pushed due to the TC great reputation, on the other hand, for TC those low budget stuff could be tail wind for origin products, if those budget stuff will not sell well. I can pretty much understand if TC is not amused.
I dunno, it's not extraordinary but then for £49 what do you want? I think it's a reasonable sounding drive pedal, especially with the drive below 2 o clock. I was more impressed with this for the money than I was for the Vermuran Jan Ray, which is a ridiculous price for a very very very average sounding drive pedal... it's no Timmy, or KoT but then you're not paying £300 for it. Won't be buying one but I don't think it's as bad as some people seem to think...
So, if these are reworked Behringer designs; does that mean that in addition to the sturdier case and switch, TC has made improvements to the quality of the pedals and possibly even tweaked the voicing? I hope that even though they are pushing TC for more affordable products that Behringer doesn't tarnish the name and keeps them as the high end brand they've established themselves as. If they are smart, for the most part, they will leave TC Eectronics to make high quality gear like they always have even if the profit margin on that gear is not as high as they like to see. As long as long as the operating costs remain lower than the sales; if it isn't broke, don't fix it.
Damn I've been in denial until I heard your two cents n it's true I like it but damn I think it does take out the warmth I'll switch back n forth clean to on and I noticed it takes away so much in exchange for a cool drive that cleans up but there are cool drives that clean up well and don't take away any "warmth" if anything they add
Hey ! Thanks for that video !! Just to know..., your signal path is : overdrive => head (+ Ditto x2) => Torpedo => DAW But for you, what do you use to hear the sound, a guitar cabinet or nearfield monitors ? (and what model is/are please ?)
i love your videos and i was looking for a reliable review of cinders, so naturally when this video popped up, it was a no brainer. now. while this is a nice demo as such, the guitars and amps you use are not anywhere near the realistic financial realm of the very main demographic this pedal is meant for. nerding out on custom guitars and dear amps to shit on a 33e pedal just seems a bit pointless in my opinion. it's like my dad once said: "you should never judge a hot dog stand by michelin star restaurant standards." the person buying this pedal is very unlikely to be holding the rest of the gear you are displaying here, and that means that you are missing the point of this pedal. i say this with all the respect, as i am a fan of your work.
Hello video author! Which pedal would you choose then? What are some of your favorites? I love the way the guitar sounds from the marshall amps at Jimi Hendrix. Is there a similar pedal overdrive similar in sound? It seems like I was listening to this pedal that you have on the review, the sound seemed good. Upset that you didn't like her :)
This is the same price here in Germany as the Mojo Mojo, which I own and is a fine overdrive, how do they expect to compete with themselves here? Or are pedals like the Mojo Mojo and Dark Matter about to disappear?
Considering the huge price drop the Mojo Mojo made in a few years I suspect the pedal never was the hit they hoped for.....it might disappear....but I´m just guessing.
Moin HP, ich suche eine Umschaltlösung zwischen mehreren Gitarrentops. Welchen Umschalter benutzt Du denn in der Mitte des Regals, sieht aus, wie irgendeine 19" Einheit ?
I'm not convinced the Cinders is great with the OD set up past 1 o'clock. I do like it very much as an OD pedal, not a higher gain distortion-esque pedal. When I have a very nice organic tube amp tone, and I want some OD without cranking the amp's volume up, this TC Cinders does a great job. Start with a great tube amp and a nice Strat, the Cinders does very well.

Why would tc sell to behringer? Surely with their heritage and recent success in the market I thought they'd be doing well. Always liked tore in vids/interviews. Already it seems the personality and soul has been sucked from the name, this is not a good association
I think this pedal sounds as good if not better for th price than that crappy $2000 klon.rich people are usually idiots.i bet if this pedal costed $1500 almost everybody would be praising it as th next big thing in audio a d warbling on about how "warm" and "tubelike" it is just because to most of them a huge price tag means super high quality but what it really means is...they are all a bunch of suckers and the manufacturers know this and they make a pedal with standard electronics and aluminum shell made from the guys beer cans for th week and slap a big price tag in it so the reviews will praise it and rich people just come crawling, running, and tripping over each other to get theyr hands in it and empty theyr bank accounts because.expensive means unparalleled high quality...lol.hilarious...i love th cinder. Fizzy, fuzzy, poor note definition. I wouldn't touch one with a bargepole.Cheap doesn't have to mean nasty. I recently bought a Kokko Overdrive which cost me all of 12 quid, and I think it's a belter!
I bought Cinders a year ago. Can't get enough of it. I'm recording an album right now and using Cinders for all heavy sounds with starts and LPs. The pedal sounds amazing and mindblowlingly blends in the mix.

I heard there's a couple black metal bands there.snd that it's hard to have a band like that in that area.i wish you had more access to more pedal options bro.
Love the honesty Henning and no doubt you could get the same most likely better by just using the overdrive on your amp.

Thanks a lot for the in depth reviews, and HONEST opinion(quite rare).
I have this pedal and I agree with his summary of this pedal.
It does what he says it does. The Joyo “Sweet Baby” is a better pedal that actually accomplishes what this pedal sets out to do.
Can't enough of that guitar. Regardless of your stance regarding boutique\custom\high-end guitars, that one's a work art and it's undeniable.
That's exactly like the Boss BD2 ! Put one beside the other and you won't hear much differences.
Zero Difference, I did the side by side with a clean Marshall Origins 50C and kept the Cinders because it was only $25 !!
Your honesty is always appreciated
Thanks for all of your videos they were helpful and specifically informative of how to use these pedals to get the sound you are looking for. I bought pretty much all off the T C Electronics effects pedals.
The Cinders with the TC Rush gives you a Tube Screamer vibe if you roll back the drive and have volume and tone at 3 o'clock
I know the joyo is a little cheap amp, but can't you turn it up? the volume difference is not fair.
The holy grail for me is this pedal into a fender twin.. With a fender jaguar equipped with Alnico 2 pickups.
i admire your videos, bald guitar man of the internet.
Hi Henning. I think you should do the demos with more simple gear! Mid price guitar and some kind of "F" or "M" amp with a 57. It's a very nice demo, but... It's look like your are in Mars and we, common "earthers" don't get the "real" waves! I think you get the point. Thanks
I left your setup! The layout of the videos! Everything is like professional quality! Great sound! Keep it up because I’ll be watching a lot now!
Actually, I don't think this sounded bad at all. I was more surprised at how similar the amps sounded clean (except for the joyo).
This is a revamp of a Boss Blues Driver, not supposed to bring out mids. I think a boost ahead of it would make it sound even better
I have one and I use an optical comp ahead of it to boost it. Sounds great!
Henning, Thanks for this vid. Personally, I like it and knew that from the first chord I played. Crunch and I get along quite well! :-) Cheers mate!
Boy, that AC30 Top sure sounds nice... never considered vox amps to be my thing but this sounds really good.
after many video on this pedal , i take the Electro Harmonix east river drive , but for the compressor and mu reverb i take the TC Forcefield and TC skyverb
would love to see an overall review of this new range of pedals! kinda an all encompassing video for these pedals!
Wer einen warmen runden angerotzten bluesigen Fender artigen zerrsound braucht sollte sich das Teil kaufen.
Top Sound und Preis

What about the BADASS BIYANG pedal line? I love BIYANG.

I laugh everytime you switch to that little joyo amp.

Looking at their budget price positions, I tend to agree 100% with your statement but I thought I would rather ask.

Tore from TC said it in a few interviews and he also told me personally.
EytschPi42 You mentioned in another video that you were wondering if tc wanted these to be released or if behringer pushed it to happen. when you doing the Compressor? Im very curious. Its either the Forcefield or the HyperGravity.
you need to puppies in your videos :)
interesting how unimpressed you were, I thought it sounded pretty good
Appreciate your honesty,- Thank you !
Is it safe to say that Mojomojo overdrive is better than Cinders overdrive? they are about the same price.
Fausto Lazo 100% better
Really? the Mojo is double the price here..
Not in my opinion. Mojo mojo is compressed. Ive tried them all..
Mojo mojo has bass and treble knobs, so if you really want that then go for that
I dunno, it's not extraordinary but then for £49 what do you want? I think it's a reasonable sounding drive pedal, especially with the drive below 2 o clock. I was more impressed with this for the money than I was for the Vermuran Jan Ray, which is a ridiculous price for a very very very average sounding drive pedal... it's no Timmy, or KoT but then you're not paying £300 for it. Hey Henning, by the end of the video, you say that there are some gems in this series, which ones do you think are gems?
I agree, these pedals are "overdrives" just because they are described so. But only the BOSS is warm because it has "blues" in its name 😂
Have you checked the pedal owners manuals? Hopefully they give the proper specs there.
I know someplace you had to have mentioned what guitar that is but incase I was not paying attention, what is that amazing guitar?
Damn I've been in denial until I heard your two cents n it's true I like it but damn I think it does take out the warmth I'll switch back n forth clean to on and I noticed it takes away so much in exchange for a cool drive that cleans up but there are cool drives that clean up well and don't take away any "warmth" if anything they add
Hey !
Thanks for that video !!
Just to know..., your signal path is : overdrive => head (+ Ditto x2) => Torpedo => DAW
But for you, what do you use to hear the sound, a guitar cabinet or nearfield monitors ? (and what model is/are please ?)
Nearfiled Monitors. KRK VXT6 plus sub.-.. they are very true to the actual sound of the amp with a cab.
All right ! Thx !!
These Tc pedals are based on the Behringer range of pedals, not knocking them, I own three of them
i love your videos and i was looking for a reliable review of cinders, so naturally when this video popped up, it was a no brainer.
now.
while this is a nice demo as such, the guitars and amps you use are not anywhere near the realistic financial realm of the very main demographic this pedal is meant for. nerding out on custom guitars and dear amps to shit on a 33e pedal just seems a bit pointless in my opinion.
it's like my dad once said: "you should never judge a hot dog stand by michelin star restaurant standards."
the person buying this pedal is very unlikely to be holding the rest of the gear you are displaying here, and that means that you are missing the point of this pedal. i say this with all the respect, as i am a fan of your work.
Bro that guitar is 🔥

such a beautiful guitar
So what else do you suggest in that price range?

Considering the huge price drop the Mojo Mojo made in a few years I suspect the pedal never was the hit they hoped for.....it might disappear....but I´m just guessing.
nice switcher!
If you want warm then turn your treble down or your bass up and try again.
Thanks for the review. I'm looking for an alternative to my EHX Big Muff Pi but this will not be it. Nxt up to consider... jhs boss angry driver...
the angry Driver is great, but not at all like the big muff pie
at 09:00 so funny, and honest ! great sounds, thanks!
Is there a link to this guitar builders website?
For 49€ I took the Dark Matter from TC
Thanks Henry! Actually you didnt need to say that, who follows you knows from your face when the product isnt something else!
No Cinders, you won't go the ball.
Would you compare this at all to the boss sd1 super Overdrive and would you include this in a tube screamer style Drive shout out as well as the boss super overdrive because I saw Richie Sambora using the super overdrive with the Keeley mod on it and I'm thinking that this is like a tube screamer style drive but I feel like it's not because you know you have the visual sound 808 you have the nobel's odr 1 the DigiTech Bad Monkey the Maxon od808 the voodoo lab Sparkle Drive the Keeley Red Dirt I feel like the definition of a tube screamer for me is it's got to be push in the front of the amp and it's got to be a blues style Overdrive for Stevie Ray Vaughan stuff
No it's not like a boss sd1. Its unique.. Uncompressed and gritty.. Dynamic overdrive
It's definitely not a TS clone.
Should I buy the mojomojo or the cinders?
João Pedro Marri same question here ...
João Pedro Marri but we should buy mojo mojo
I would recommend cinders. I have both
Is this a blues driver clone or what? It's definitely NOT a tube screamer clone. Its not compressed
For sure a BD style pedal, I own one and love it.
You saved me 50, I owe u a buck!
would you recommend this or the tube pilot?
A German, talking about build quality, just fits, I trust his opinion, cause of his accent 😂
These cost $30 ..
Buy it, gut it, use the components for a real nice vero build.
You'll probably save money !
Why would tc sell to behringer? Surely with their heritage and recent success in the market I thought they'd be doing well. Always liked tore in vids/interviews. Already it seems the personality and soul has been sucked from the name, this is not a good association
Stuart Begley cause money
I know man. I hate Behringer crap too. They also own Bugera, but luckily, both Bugera and TC electronics are good quality, unlike Behringer junk.
Sounded best with the Hughes.
I thought it sounded decent with the gain anywhere below 2 o'clock. Nothing special though.
Ahhh 5:47 chords... lovely
nice guitar
I had one for a while, sold it for why I dont know then I got another one and would run my J Rockett Silver Archer behind it and instant heaven.
How do you feel between the Cinders VS the Mojomojo?
mamoru miyagawa clearly the Mojo Mojo
Satriani??
I think this pedal sounds as good if not better for th price than that crappy $2000 klon.rich people are usually idiots.i bet if this pedal costed $1500 almost everybody would be praising it as th next big thing in audio a d warbling on about how "warm" and "tubelike" it is just because to most of them a huge price tag means super high quality but what it really means is...they are all a bunch of suckers and the manufacturers know this and they make a pedal with standard electronics and aluminum shell made from the guys beer cans for th week and slap a big price tag in it so the reviews will praise it and rich people just come crawling, running, and tripping over each other to get theyr hands in it and empty theyr bank accounts because.expensive means unparalleled high quality...lol.hilarious...i love th cinder.

but great video as usual.i love your style and sense of humor.you seem like a really cool cat.
i can get the same tones by using the dirty channel of my orange crush 20 2015 amp, even more variety of punch
Fizzy, fuzzy, poor note definition. I wouldn't touch one with a bargepole.Cheap doesn't have to mean nasty. I recently bought a Kokko Overdrive which cost me all of 12 quid, and I think it's a belter!
kingstumble Try one for yourself. don't base your opinion on one youtube video.
Please tune the guitar! Other than that good !
i like it who cares about transperancy and warmth..... just cick it and strum some dirty rockin' chords
Behringer pedals with tc branding to sell sell sell , but on the flip side if they sound good work an are cheap who gives a shit!
Why would you use such a distinctive guitar to review a pedal? It's almost useless.
