Very Helpful Hint: The lower connector is the only tough part of this installation. You'll feel a square shaped "bump" on the top potion of the connector. Install a short PHILLIPS HEAD screwdriver into the hole in the in the middle of the bump and the connector will open with virtually no effort. The APR instructions aren't nearly detailed enough to mention this and the helpful online videos such as this one don't get into the details.
Module works GREAT I put one on my 2016 GTI with performance pkg, noticeable improvement all across the range, makes real good great car more better and exceptional, mpg did drop a few miles, which is expected, more air, needs more gas....
@@sambernstein3055 Actaully my mpg is now UP 33.6 today, and I have actaully hit 35.2 on long few hour cruise...MAGIC, and that was before just replacing my plugs and coils. Last week new plugs and coil, much smoother, starts quick, smoother when letting up clutch, more magic had 79,000 on coils, about 35K miles on plugs new Bosch double platinum 8160, plugs matter, the Neuspeed is still working GREAT gobs of power for very little money and work..never go without it now, am spoiled
Is anyone having any problems with their power module .. my 15 Gti just started to throw out the epc light after two months .. thinking it’s the hot weather .. am I ight or wrong
Yes it is plug and play. Don't use it if you already have a flash remap, that's too much and something will break. This box fools the ECU and turbo into boosting 5PSI more than before, that on top of a flash would likely blow something up.
M.R. Smith ooh! Yeah you should definitely run 91 with the Neuspeed power module. Sorry didn’t see what video this comment was on I’’m in the creator studio.
100% recommend it! Never had an issue with it, still hooked up to this day. I'm still considering going full stage 1 software tune someday, but really the power module is just about a perfect daily driver mod. Bonus is that you can sell it or move to another 2.0T powered car later.
Love how everyone is screaming this voids your warranty. It doesn't. VW goes by diagnostics and they hook up your OBDII to their software for a check, when they perform service or VAGCOM stuff. This Neuspeed module is installed under the hood, piggy backs on the cars ECU, doesn't overwrite anything. You will not get a "TD1" code on your car. The dealer won't be able to prove you did anything either unless you actually FLASHED the ECU, then it will throw the code and flag your ECU. Also, the whole "undetectable if it put it back to stock mode" bullshit is false too, for the people that believe this garbage, shut your mouths. The dealer will STILL be able to see it and throw a TD1 code, so ANYTHING done to the ECU is detectable. Doesn't matter if you go to a "mod friendly" dealer. If the dealer sells you a flash, you have to be VERY careful, because if something goes wrong it's at their mercy to warranty the work. Some dealers are selling new MK7's with stage 1 tunes on them, but just keep in mind you're TD1 and bought a new car and voided your powertrain warranty essentially as it operates outside parameters of the stock program. Magnuson Moss doesn't protect you against this.
+CapeVoice I do think these physical modules like this are the 'safest' way to get a bit more power from MK7 and it's impossible to get flagged with TD1. I just unhooked it before taking car to dealer, very easy 5 minutes no tools needed. This module is only equivalent to a stage .5 though, it would be nice for full 300 hp stage 1, but I already feel traction limited and more power will just make that worse. I'm looking into a torque arm insert as the next bolt on mod. Stop wheel hop on hard launches.
+Netcruzer Yeah a torque arm insert would help. I'm just going to be sticking with the air intake, exhaust and module but that'll be on the Golf R though. Will be dropping it a half inch, tint, 6MT, still trying to decide what exhaust I want.
+Netcruzer I had a buddy install my NPM and now I'm having trouble unplugging the bottom piece to temporarily remove it for service. Any tips to easily unplug that bottom piece?
impruv If you didn't install it you likely won't be abel to get the lower plug disconnected without seeing it. Remove the under plastic and you will be able to easily disconnect it. I was able to reach from top down and disconnect mine for a recent service but it was hard to do, you can't see and have to know exactly where to press and pull to unclip the connectors.
+Scheffy1777 Feedback is 100% positive for me. I've noticed no problems or decrease in economy. I've had it installed for almost a year and it's never been disconnected since this install. It's a fantastic alternative to a software tune. Bonus is that it's easy to remove and can be resold when I'm done.
mine works GREAT, noticable increase all across the band...., my mpg did drop a bit though, maybe cus i am punching it more, cus it's more fun, the thing gets to 90 mph on open hwy in a flash from 65-70, can feel the increase pull, wonder how much power and torgue is there, maybe one day i will have it tested, the magazine i first read about it in, loved it too, with all different mods on their 2015 GTI test car, this is the simple way to get more kick, so far RELIABLE too.
The car HAS to burn more fuel in order to satisfy the requirements of the elevated boost pressure this module creates. The vehicle will therefore burn more gas unless it's absolutely babied (e.g., short shifting below 2,600 RPM or so). A 7% decrease in fuel economy is a good estimate.
im really considering to buy this, but im still not sure if should go stage 1 flash instead. Plug and play never seemed like they gave real feedback especially if im going to spend over 350$ on it. is it worth the money or should i just keep saving im not concerned about about the warranty
If only Stage 1 is what you want, buy it used. it's a very modest bump in power without voiding your warranty. if you plant on going Stage 2 +, save the $ and go bonkers bro lol.
See my comment regarding engine torque elsewhere in this thread. If you care about your clutch, transaxle and even the engine, you'll either go with a Neuspeed Power Module or APR's (very mild) "Plus" tune, which they actually warranty. Results between the two are comparable. Higher torque tunes (such as APRs Stage 1 and 2) will substantially shorten the service life of many of your vehicle's components.
APR STAGE 1 VOIDS THE VW FACTORY WARRANTY! Period. Even APR won't warranty their own Stage 1, er their own website. The only tune they offer a warranty on it their new "Plus" tune, which is a low torque tune.
No. This module increases peak engine torque by roughly 21%. While that's significant, it's almost certainly within the engineered design factor of safety, realizing the vehicle can tow small trailers (per the owners manual) etc in stock tune. It's engine torque (and not engine HP) that fries clutches and breaks parts. APRs Stage 1 tune increases engine torque by 42%, while they Stage 2 increase it by more than 51%. Also keep in mind that many of those cars are running other power enhancing modes in addition to the tunes. And some of them are very hard on the car (dumping clutches from a stop at 5,000 RPM, etc) I'm a mechanical design engineer and gave this matter much thought prior to deciding to buy and install one in my new 2018 GTI Autobahn. Its now in and the difference in performance is very noticeable!
+MegaDavO I'm sure you can, and so can I. It was wet, and I had two heavy guys in the car. I'm also aware of how hard it is on the car to launch hard so yeah......
Chris Price are u still using the npm? planning on install today ....normal driving..mainly just for subtle power gain..how do u like it..any issues like smoothness?
+Jorge Sanchez Really? Do you always use 91 or better fuel? I've had zero problems with mine, I'm 100% happy with it. It's never been taken off since I put it on. I think it's great, and safer and more affordable than a software tune.
mine works GREAT, always have used 91 or above, it's needed anyway look at the car manual! I have the performance pkg on my 2016, this made it even better, easy to feel the improvement in all gears, I like it!
Yossef Al-Mashouq hmm I did it years ago and have only had if off once since. Upper or lower plug are you stuggling with? I seem to recall the upper had a weird clip. Sorry I’m not more helpful.
I understand your frustration, having done this myself only an hour ago. You'll feel a square shaped "bump" on the top of the connector. The release is in the middle of the "bump" and resides in a small slot. Insert a short phillips head screwdriver(a socket with a Phillips head end is even better, which is what I used) into the small slot and the connector pops off like magic. It took me 15 or so minutes to figure this out. Definitely not overly obvious, yet painfully simple once its figured out.
+DamedFilms Yeah, in magazines in perfect conditions, it will be significantly different based on weather, altitude, barometric pressure and driver ability.
I've gotten my '18 and '18 GTI Autobahns from 5 MPH to 60 MPH (a CAR AND DRIVER metric) in less than 6.5 seconds, and that significantly slower than a properly executed clutch dump from 0 - 60 MPH.
Those are horrible numbers lol Stock DSG GTI will be sub 6 seconds easily with launch control. All major mags tested them under 6 seconds stock. I would imagine a DSG GTI + Neuspeed 93 octane +7 PSI with sticky tires, CAI and larger turbo inlet pipe would be right around 5.1-5.2 seconds.
Front drive limits the 60 foot time, and therefore 0 - 60 time. The bogie to watch in terms of power gains is quarter mile trap speed (not to be confused with elapsed time).
That is really terrible. I had a 6speed mk6 gli that would do sub 6second 0-60 and it had 200k miles on it. This should definitely be near 5 seconds considering the R gets to low 4s with these same mods and good fuel

Is it plug and play and what about i use this after a remap
Yes it is plug and play. Don't use it if you already have a flash remap, that's too much and something will break. This box fools the ECU and turbo into boosting 5PSI more than before, that on top of a flash would likely blow something up.

On a GTI and R yes. The lower end modern VW turbo cars can run 87 if it says so on the cap.
