What a fantastic time we all live in. Had you been alive in 1874/5, when this concerto was written, you would have been lucky to have heard it four or five times in your whole life. Now, even on RUclips we can contrast and compare hundreds of versions and hear it played by out favourite pianist whenever we want. We are allowed to disagree on whom is our favourite, but isn't it wonderful that we have the opportunity to choose...?
Cierto los gustos, a veces son muy variados, pero después de escuchar a Yuja Wang, el nivel es tan alto desde el punto de vista emocional, que la elección será muy dificil.....
ComposerInUK If you had been alive in 1874/5 you would have been one in a million to have even heard of it or understood what it was, let alone heard it even once.
ComposerInUK Yes! And part of that fantastic time is the more than one MILLION hits that this piece has received! I realize that this is a popular work and that Yuja Wang is a charismatic pianist, but 1, 000,000 hits!
Wow. What a talent. And for those criticizing her outfit, she's a rock star of classical music. She can wear whatever she wants. She certainly delivers the goods musically. I happen to like her dress in this performance, and I think she's a beautiful woman. But there's also lots of videos of other performances where she's wearing long, elegant gowns. Just bask in the greatness of a generational talent and enjoy the artistry.
I remember her saying that her mother wanted her to be a dancer. I think the mother was a ballerina. When i see Yuja wearing tight dresses, i see a ballerina playing piano masterpieces. I think she has a body of a ballerina :)
I think her style of dress does a lot to make Classical Music cool.....and that's really OK in my book! She's taken the dust off of some of the world's most beautiful music.
There are only 3 types of people that would criticize Ms. Wang for her attire. 1. Lesser musicians jealous of her. 2. Women jealous of her raw beauty. 3. Men who's wives are standing over them as they type a response to this video.
You left out the pompous morality police stuck in the 19th century, and the mere racist chauvinists over her being Chinese and a woman. Otherwise, ya got it covered...
Awesome performance!! ... Yuja is one of the best... All by memory.. Her magical fingers running on the keys, with intensity!!.. Have been following her career for many years..... Her performances convey such passion & feelings. Thanks for posting. 🙏❤️
I cannot imagine the countless hours, days, weeks, months, years, decades of total and complete dedication it takes to be able to play incredible pieces of music like this one, and hit every single note crisply and cleanly in front of a packed auditorium.
Absolutely incredible the amount of life talent and work requires to become this level of musician is astonishing, from 4-5 years old non stop 3-5 hours a day. Bravo!!!! And yet the only form of Art “artists” getaway with no talent, no skill, no content, no beauty, in completely insane, absurd world of paintings, it is insult to intelligence to any human being who has intelligence, and insult the true artist of paint and artists in general. Isn’t it time to change it and bring the skills the talent the beauty to the visual arts of our time? This performance should be inspiration for anybody To bring a visual arts to the level of this performance.
@@An-ye8rj music inspires all kinds of art. Every painter of art I know listens to music while painting. Every construction worker and cook listens to music while they create. Imagine dance without music. Imagine a film without music. For God's sake, imagine Church without music. Impossible! How many couples have fallen in love while music played? "Listen, Honey, they're playing our song " I'll bet some of the finest babies were created with music playing in the background. It's a pretty good racket!
How can a human remember so many notes and present it with such sensibility, vitality, and accuracy. Yija must be a superhuman or a being from another planet.
Yuja Wang for me is the greatest pianist of all time. So many concertos played to perfection & no written music in front of her all learnt & memorised. She is a majestic pianist indeed. Love her. ❤
a true human, instead ( we are all part of Source, as is all life -- owning that and giving oneself to being the instrument of Source is the secret not so secret when we don't obscure it with bs...). So MW, how are you living that today, in your heart, your silence and your words, your true Voice today ; )
She doesn't remember "all the notes", not like "G, followed by A-flat in the left hand with a C-E-G chord in the right...". I'm sure that you can hum along with the melody line of this piece most of the time. She knows every detail of this melody, she hears it in her head, and her hands through thousands of hours of practice and training, nearly automatically "know" how to reproduce that melody.
If Tchaikovsky is listening to her, he would be shocked to hear the technical possibilities his creation could engender. The modern 21st century flair this top pianist has infused into his piece has breathed new energy and longevity for the future generations! Love it!
Freedom, in her case, is part of the free spirit she puts to creativity . . . instead of worrying about others' opinions. As she said in an interview, "I'm in charge." (implying, no one else is.) Free spirits always rub the stultified the wrong way. What's new?
+GoodToBeAGirl Excellent comment, I would guess that Yuja Wang would agree with your comment 100% !! Yuja Wang a free spirit in the often stuffy world of Classical music, breath of fresh air and a brilliant musician more like !! She also likes being a fashionable young woman, god bless her !!
Pianist looks beautiful. Super cute hair cut, looks great, and infinitely talented. Who in their right mind would ever criticize anything about this performance? We've heard this a million times, but super appreciated her performance. Absolutely loved it.
Yes!!..I agree with you 100%... Yuja is a multi talented pianist. Her magical fingers running on the piano are amazing..... This piece is so very emotional + stirring... Love her gowns too!!... Have seen a few of her interviews, & she's warm + intelligent....... Thanks for posting this wonderful performance: 🙏❤️
THIS IS THE MOST EXTROARDINARY PERFORMANCE OF THIS WORK I HAVE EVER HEARD. AND I HAVE HEARD MANY. CLIBURN LAUNCHED IT TO THE ENTIRE WORLD. AND YUJA HURLED IT EVEN FURTHER INTO THE HEAVENS. TOO BEAUTIFUL FOR WORDS.
A gentle word; typing in all upper case is the equivalent of shouting, and while that might be what you want to do with Yuja Wang's incredible performance, it is considered to be rude.
Wow, I am drawn back to this exquisite performance again and again, after listening to other past and present first-rated pianists. For me Yuja's amazingly brilliant phrasing with such clarity and sensitivity is second to none. Her tempi are right on the spot, sensibly and emotively punctuate the lyrical layers of each movement. Moreover her excellent pedal work, which is not usually recognized, completes the incredible sonority. But perhaps most of all Yuja's exceptional display of the harmonization and musical unity between her as the soloist and the orchestra is a rarity among her generation of performers. Not only does she attentively and intentionally listen to the orchestra but actually as a result step down when the orchestra has the carrying melody or when the orchestra has a solo instrumental part. Such intelligence and humility!!
+Euphemia Jaramie....it's only the narrow minded "snobs" who pull their faces about Yuja's dress style. What she's doing is effectively sticking two fingers up at those people and saying "i don't give a shit because i will wear what i WANT to wear and if you don't like it, find yourself another Yuja Wang"....(which they can't!!). I love her all the more for that approach. In UK we had Nigel Kennedy doing the same who would do a concert looking like a tramp off the streets with a weeks growth of beard stubble...no way would he ever conform to "standard dress code". Nobody could say anything because he was at the very top of his profession.
Yuja Wang was new for me, though I have listen to many Tchaikovsky piano #1 in the last 60 years. I had low expectations, likely to be another sterile, mechanical performance. I was delighted for her nuanced, poetic performance! She also was a fine technician, with power when called for. Mainly, she was at one with Tchaikovsky. Thanks RUclips for giving me access to her performance.
She seems to be at one with the music, and shows so much joy throughout. At 25:58 and again at 35:58 she's actually dancing! Not once does she resort to the all-too-familiar over-strained facial expressions and gyrations that so many classical musicians use as if to call attention to how great they are (rather than how great the *music* is). Listen to how graceful she presents the arpeggios at 2:00 - 2:45! Other pianists attack those arpeggios with an overbearing menace, forcing their will upon the piano and beating the instrument into submission. Not Yuja. She and the piano seem to be equal partners focused on dancing the night away, utterly losing themselves in the *music*! Yes, her technical ability is amazing, but it is the joy with which she brings to the entire work - slow and quiet passages as well as loud and triumphant - that I like best.
I have never seen Yuja playing with a music sheet in front of her, she blows my mind with her memory and playing skills, her parents must be 20 feet tall from been proud of having this great pianist.
Believe it or not, it's distracting to have sheet music when you are doing piano performance. Look at collaborative piano, maybe they have sheet music there, or when a person is accompanying a recital.
6 years later, this is still the best Tchaikovsky Paino Concerto I have heard. Yujia has magic hands, best illustrated in the finally, relaxed but with control and confidence. I am blessed.
I can listen to Yuja Wang playing piano all day long without getting bore or tire. What a blessing to have such a wonderful young musician to live among us today!
One is beguiled by the freshness and joy in her performance. And she can bring a mew zest to even the most (overly) familiar works. As Yuja plays, fleeting smiles and murmuring lips reveal that she seems to be enjoying the music, along with the audience. It's almost certain that there are a number of pianists playing in concerts around the world, but few if any, play with that relaxed sheer joy in the music. That's what sets her apart, and what makes it possible to hear her over and over again, without tiring.
I'm really tired of the over praising she gets. It's not merited. She is a virtuoso pianist for sure, but one of many of equal or superior playing ability ; furthermore, she is a bit dull and conventional as a musician
How can anyone touch those keys so lightly? How can anyone move their fingers so quickly? I always enjoyed Horowitz, but he has been replaced by Yuja who not only has the mechanics of the piece, but also gives us the emotion that Tchaikovsky imagined and wrote. Miss Wang has captured my heart and admiration. She makes me giggle with sheer delight when she plays~!
Great as Yuja is (and I mean it) not even her played those octaves as Martha Argerich. Don´t take my word, take a look instead. Suisse Ronmande under Dutoit version.
I don't think it's been mentioned here, but Yuja Wang has, imo, THE most beautiful hands.. strong, upright (not flat), graceful, expressive in themselves.
I have listened to MANY MANY versions of this song for a very very long time and this is the FIRST ive ever heard that both orchestra and pianist are top notch. My goodness. I play piano and this was always the song i wanted to master and perform (obviously not likely in this lifetime) i dont care WHAT shes wearing- she is AMAZING!!!
I'm not the first to comment, but a 'song' is something that is 'sung' (do you see the connection in the words?). In fact, there is no immediate equivalent to 'song' in classical music; in opera there is an equivalent, and the word is, 'aria'.
This fabulous lady is a considerable way past being a genius. We watch her arms, hands and fingers as she conjures this perfection seemingly out of thin air, and the conductor has balanced the orchestra with her so beautifully that this is far and away my favourite rendition.
As someone said in another of her brilliant performances captured on video, this is superhuman genius. The length of the concerto, the speed and precision of the most difficult passages, the dynamic control she exhibits, being in musical sync with the orchestra, and doing so with her natural flair, beauty, and obviously enjoying the fun and challenge of it all tells us that this is what she was placed on earth for, and for all of us lucky enough to realize what we are witnessing, we are all the better for it. She is one of the things right now that make us grateful to be alive.
Unbelievable. What a performance. Such clarity and detail in every note...never muddled, never hides behind pedal or the orchestra. She plays with every passage with confidence and passion. Tremendous octaves, too. I love how halfway through them the conductor just kind of slowly rotates and watches her. Yuja is still so young and I can't wait to see what kind of greatness she has yet to achieve.
You've touched upon something very important about Ms Wang's playing which is less often mentioned than it should be. Her passion and, her oft-mentioned "almost fighterning accuracy" and other attributes are often praised. But more attention must be paid to her clarity. I could mention many famous performers - often those cited as "masters" of the keyboard - who absolutely cannot match Ms Wang in this regard. You can hear (and enjoy) every note, regardless of the passage's tempo.
“Yuja is still so young...” yet she’s been playing concert piano around the world for over 20 years! I hope to be listening to her playing when I’m 100!
@@edb6783 Thank you for bringing me back to this amazing video! This is such a great rendition. Yuja Wang is a master and the conductor and orchestra are great too. I don't think she made a single error in the octaves, which is insane because even the best make at least one or two slip ups in that famous passage.
@@Blueboyo1 I so whole heartedly agree. The Passion and composure in which she performs. The nuanced way she can apply her own self to each note is such a joy. I have purposefully listened to a performance and then listened tot eh same piece be one of her peers and sadly for them they pale in comparison to her amazing talent. This is a perfect example of an artist having teh technical and physical chops to execute almost anything they need to, but then having the amazing connection with the music that you almost feel she is one with the music.
In the film Amadeus, Mozart says “I am a vulgar man, but I assure you my music is not”. Yuja is not vulgar and surely her music is not. It is sublime. Her music serves as a gift to us all to lift our spirit to experience the Soul.
What's wrong with being vulgar if even Mozart was?!!! Yuja is sexy and she enjoys it that way. It does NOT take away from her outstanding artistic performance.
That finale... I seriously almost fell off my chair. And I think this is the third time I've heard her play this piece just today. Goosebumps, tears in my eyes and I'm absolutely out of breath. Every hair on my arms and legs and necks is alert and my brain is a swirling mess. What a brilliant performance!
WOW I am speechless. Ms. Wang is probably among the best pianists of our lifetime, so expressive and in the meantime so crystal-clear. I really wonder how anyone could criticize her art...probably they have never played the piano in their life, cause otherwise they would immediately understand how unreachable performances like this one are. Thanks for uploading this video!
Most talented and beautiful one will ever see on the classical piano keys! A million thanks to the one above for dropping her down from Heaven in our lifetime! Pyotr
I have heard this piece many times in my 77 years. I can't compare this performance with others I have heard, for who can remember everything about them all? All I know is I enjoyed it very much, feeling that Ms Wang played with great authority and proper feeling (it's all subjective, anyway). Unlike others who have posted here, I found her short skirt charming, not at all distracting. It emphasized her youth, which was also apparent in her bodily responses to some of the syncopated passages. The music is beautiful, the woman is beautiful--they seem to be in consonance, yes? I am happy to have 'discovered' Yuja Yang on RUclips. Thanks to the uploader... Chunkitpoh?
Finally one conductor who can follow Yuja's absolutely musical fire … without wavering .. what a great interpretation of this eternal marvel of musical composition ...
Probably helps him to be the only person in the orchestra who can't see her and be utterly captivated by her... playing... :) And yeah, that's a joke, she's got me nearly catatonic and I'm in another window and I can't see her. It's phenomenal playing! Hands down my favorite rendition of the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto. When I was a kid, I used to consider this my favorite piece of all time. But over the years, that "drunken" intro just started to feel weird. Yuja fixed that by firming it up and making it brisk and potent, not extravagant and swaggering. This is truly breathtaking, down to the last note. Even a blind man would agree.
I'm almost 80. Never heard or saw her till a few days ago here on RUclips. Like an elixir of life. So refreshing, cute, and fun not to mention her incredible talent. If I were young again she soon would have a boyfriend. If she likes girls too, she has the personality to take it all in. I thank her for the renewed pleasure she has thrown into my life.
Yuja Wang is easily the most interesting artist on the stages of the world. With a first rate imagination, respect for music, remarkable stage presence and keyboard manners make her the great genius she is. A happy human being.
What a fantastic performance. Yuja Wang is a goddess. An Amazon woman. Powerful and extraordinary. My expectations of the orchestra were low but am blown away by their playing. Really incredible. They accompany the soloist perfectly. Bravo and Brava to All.
She is absolutely the most amazing artist of our time. I'm a very lucky listener and please protect this genius from the nasty world out there! Great art gives great people. Yuja Wang lives forever. Million thanks.
This woman is an astoundingly great musician. It is that simple. The notion that she is all glitz and no substance is sheer nonsense. Just listen to her touch in the opening of the second movement. Sublime.
OMG. Bravo indeed. My soul just exploded. I've never been so moved by this piece before. A shining light in the darkness of a fearful world. My Heart will continue reverberate to this as I sleep. Thank you, Yuja Wang.
One of the most poetic versions I've ever heard of this masterpiece. Almost thought I was listening to the Schumann concerto at several moments. Also appreciate that Yuja expresses her emotions thru the music, not thru exaggerated body movements and pained facial expressions (Lang Lang). Yuja is a truly great musician.
That's because she is completely in the music. Hannu Lintu and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra are also remarkably good and contribute to the almost meditative mood that I hear at times (very usual in this concerto!)
❤️❤️❤️ Wonderful... Tchaikovsky Piano Concert n. 1 as I always want to hear it ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you for sharing the talent from this really amazing pianist ❤️💐🌿🌸 Best wishes 🌹💝
How I HATE the over acting of pianists with their facial expressions, or too much body movements this way, that way, leaning back, leaning right down over the keys. It all looks so ridiculous and acting. You’re not an actor you’re a pianist, so just keep as still as you can, you pianists - like this young lady.
Never understood the persistence of musicians comparing this to Schuman- this is a much more engaging and intellectually complex than anything by Schuman. When Rubinstein criticised the piece for being not truly classical, tchaikovsky edited it and turned it into a baroque concerto- the main theme is stated just once and the rest is a sequence of tonal answers and variations- he was, after all, professor of counterpoint.
Yuja Wang is without doubt the modern ''It Girl'' of the piano world and I would sooner see her perform on stage than any other pianist in the world today. I hope she gets to appear on the BBC Proms in London this year playing a really good piece of music, she would be an absolute sensation to those who have not heard or seen her before, mark my words, Yuja Wang is on course to be the No 1 pianist in all the world within the next 5 years !!
Emotionally she is bringing me to musicals levels I have not been before. The way she plays on that hughe and difficult instrument is fenomenal. Blessed by having Mrs. Yuja wang among us in times where music💝💝 is probably one of the best healing tools in these disturbing times.
You kids are just babies! I’m close to 86, and want many more years to listen, and listen, and listen, and I wonder whether you all are out there thinking you’re so old; as well, I’m wondering whether you’re wasting your time.
This is one of those videos that you just look at for a quick 5 minutes.........and have to watch right to the end !! I have lost count of the times I have watched the amazing Yuja Wang play this Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto, always a lovely experience.
@@absolutdog8790 I agree but let us not forget Martha Argerich is still alive and so the debate will rage on who is better Yuja or Martha ? I'd say it be pretty close , so close I'd hate to have to live on the difference.
@@Etnalleb You're right. I guess when it's that close, sometimes it's the smallest thing that puts one over the other. For me, it's who I've seen in person vs who I haven't. My wife and I got to see Yuja in The Netherlands on May 14th when she played at the Het Concertgebouw. Incredible show. Completely incredible.
(Based on hearing Yuja Wang play a variety of repertoire, not only this performance): this woman is a genius, one of the great artists and we are lucky to be living during her lifetime. She is breaking new ground!
Her artistry and mastery make others look like talentless slackers. I am mesmerized and thoroughly delighted by Ms. Wang's magnificent performance...and may I say...brought to tears! Thank you so very much for this post.
This is as perfect as perfect gets. The opening is flawless and she sets the mood of the piece brilliantly, and continues it throughout. And as for the way she dresses, I say good for her. She brings youth, confidence and aliveness to any stage. And criticisms of the way she autographs CDs really have no meaning for me at all. She is not a pop star and people who have expectations about how she should behave for her fans are missing the point of her artistry, which is at times without peer among her generation.
I am 96 and thank my God for the man that wrote this so long ago, the orchestra and this genius lady with her fantastic talent and then technology. Real magic in music. Thank you all
Ascoltando Tchaikovsky si capisce quanti tormenti ha conosciuto nella sua .non lunga vita. Egli ha sempre dovuto nascondersi per la sua omosessualità. Per lui e stata molto peggio di una grave malattia. Grandissimo artista!!!!!!
I enjoyed hearing Yuja Wang play. She plays so elegantly and so beautifully. Her wrist is totally relaxed, and she is able to play fast things so well. I loved it! 😍❤😊💐
From my standpoint, this is exactly what can happen when artists can have the freedom to grow into their greatness. When an artist can be free to take their natural talents and put in the work, the results are spectacular. She seems to be in a great state of freedom artisically and yet she has an almost superhuman control over her art. She must have some freedom for Yuja to be Yuja. That artistic freedom must come from the people around her. My compliments to all that supported her in her artistic journey and to Yuja for what must have been years of intense study and work.
@Johney Smith I'm sure any professional just would not be comfortable in anything like a tank top or boxer shorts. That was part of my response. Dress code is not the point. Respect for the music is.
@Johney Smith Men and women have different dress codes. Do you see any female pianists wearing tux? Lang Land don't wear tux any more. Zimerman don't do concerts. Yundi is not in the same class.
@@poning8184 i think not wearing tux doesn't mean your only choice is tank top, it also doesn't mean tux is the only dress code, i think there are also plenty of options for Yuja to choose. But nonetheless, Yuja has excellent interpretation of music.
I heard Yuja Wang play at UCSB about ten years ago and was blown away by the sheer strength and beauty of her artistry. There is no one like her. She came stomping onstage in high heels and a short little dress, so cute, but the moment she started to play I was completely entranced by the music that soared from the piano.
I think this is a very classy and sensitive performance. She doesn't hammer away like so many pianists. Listen to the first movement cadenza at 17:20; she plays with a mixture of great power but also aware that there are delicate moments in there, too. Brava, I don't think any comparisons need to be made with Lang Lang - this lady has her own, unique approach to this awesome concerto. Thank you so much for sharing...
Gracias ...

Love her virtuosity, her articulate detail, her supreme elegant interpretation , phrasing melodic grasp of this masterpiece .....and oh yes and love her little red dress, heels hair cut and sheer beauty inside and out she is out of this world..Brava.
The night of May 9, 1965 I was compelled to pull to the roadside so I could cry without injury as Vladimer Horowitz played Schumann's Fantasia live in his return to Carnegie Hall after 12 years absence from the stage. Yes, all know his sins and shortcomings, but the sonorous and powerful left hand . . . ah, now that was magic. His passion and romance were there for all to feel and, indeed, see. Frequently audiences would simply begin softly weeping in unison when he played, especially in his last visit to Moscow in 1986. For the closing years of my life I have picked Miss Wang for my reverence (there are many worthies). She is in a great tradition with her teacher and mentor, Gary Graffman, having been a student of Horowitz. In the lineage of great showmen like Liszt and Horowitz, she is simply magnificent to me. It is, for me, like having a chance to see Horowitz as a youth. Enchanted. Enraptured. Enthralled.
+Leland Harrington I, too, am a huge Horowitz fan. But your post has no place in Yuja's video here. Repost your Horowitz comments on the appropriate Horowitz video on Ytube.
Perhaps you should read the entire post, my friend. To compare Yuja with Vladimer is a rare compliment indeed. Do you wish me to comment on this particular piece? Are you the guardian of this blog or God? In the interim, as you ponder your self apotheosis, I will continue to adulate Miss Wang's work, traveling across this continent to listen to her. Surprised we can agree on anything, frankly, given your worship of Sutherland and mine of Callas. Albeit, Richard and Joan made a grand couple, if only he could have imbued her with his fire. But delighted to know you admire Horowitz, flaws and all, as well.
@ Leland Harrington Thank you for that lovely comment. It was both touching and insightful. Let us hope Ms. Wang plays for a long time, and passes on her knowledge to the pupils she takes in time.
I enjoy YuJa's playing, her facial expressions, her dress, her sexiness. She is a multi-level delight. How lucky we are to have RUclips. Listen to her interviews. She is very thoughtful and tries to learn by reading all about the people whose music she plays. If I believed in God I would say she was sent from heaven. If I keep listening and watching maybe I will believe in god. In the meantime I will settle for a bit of divinity right her on Earth - YuJa!!
I think she plays this beautifully!!!! So moving and I can feel the emotion!!!!! Such a range of volume is amazing!!!! Takes one into the depth of the music!!!!
Have you encountered comments such as this one in descriptions of MALE performers?: "With jet-black hair, and wearing a brilliant vermillion mini-skirt, she personifies exquisite beauty and the wonderful language of the piano." Let us just make the experiment. Feel how awkward (since unusual) this sounds: "With jet-black hair, and wearing a brilliant tuxedo, Emmanuel Vass personifies exquisite beauty and the wonderful language of the piano." Why do professional women have to be judged for what they look like?
Beauty transcends silence. Sex appeal must exist for humanity to go to the trouble of reproducing itself. Not only does she arouse men sexually, her music appelas to their sould. Women, unless they are gay, will just have to focus on her music.
Yuja Wang has worked extremely hard to master her art as a concert pianist. It would be not only illogical but sweepingly hypocritical of anyone to assume they know more about her artistic styling than she does. Let every concert pianist have their day; each one brings refreshing nuances to the instrument in an audience-pleasing performance.
Excuse me; for me the best version is that of Marta Argerich, directed by Charles Dutoit: Exactly timing and intensity... I didn´t study music, only my sensibility say this words. Thank you.
WHO CARES WHAT YUJA WEARS. to my opinion, she is a fantastic musician and a wonderful interpreter. Still, it must be stated that this music has gifted the audience with three extraordinary pleasures :- Primo: the composition . Secundo: the performance and Tercio: the beautiful (not short enough) RED DRESS !
Alabama B Tchaikovsky has been so successfully brought to the masses that many of his works are called, even by Yuja herself, old war horses. How tired she is of playing the nonetheless Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1 she has said quite openly.
When that technically skilled and gifted, it is almost expected in younger artists that there will be little emotional connection. She, however, captivates me with the breath she gives to the piece and the instrument and she brings it to life with beautiful emotion. Passionate, daring and charming.
The depth and security of this piano performance has rarely been matched by any other woman in my experience of it to date, and I fell in love with the work when I was 12, 67 years ago. Orchestra was wonderful here. Thank you to all concerned, especially Yuja.
I also like her performance of this concerto at Carnegie Hall in July 2017 with the National Chinese Youth Orchestra when she was 30 (search on RUclips you can find it). I feel at the later age her playing was more leisure, fuller in color, and of course, as technically excellent as she always is.
All subjective I know...but you have to say that she is the best pianist in the world...probably, that ever lived! She reminds me of a kid who can do Rubik's Cube over and over in 10 seconds! She carries it all in her head and plays it all perfectly! She can play ANYTHING, ANY PIECE, ANY COMPOSER beautifully...perfectly. She'd love to introduce a little bit of Jazz into her Prokofiev...one day, she probably will... If you told her to her face that you don't like the way she plays...I can absolutely guarantee that her response would be..."I DON'T GIVE A SHIT WHAT YOU THINK!"
+Mick Dunn I could not agree with you more. She is scary good. I doubt that there were ever more than 5 humans who can play to her level of competence. What is there not to like: cute, extraordinarily competent and when she wears the color red a fantastic visual treat. As they say .... ENJOY!
+Steven Custadero ...and above all, SHE IS HAVING FUNNN! She has a mind like Louie Armstrong >>>> she can see gaps coming up in the that she knows she can stuff a note or two into! She SEES THE WHOLE PIECE AS SHE PLAYS IT!
Yuja Wang - the most perfect, classical pianist one will ever find in cyberspace! As she has paid her dues by being on the piano bench since age four! The phenomenal sounds just roll right off her fingers! Her physical beauty puts the finishing touch!
I have read most of the comments about Yuja Wang, here and elsewhere. English is not my first language, but I know that adding swear words and sexual remarks do not add to the strength of one's opinion. We are given the space to write about our response and reaction to the music presented here. It is a privilege. I really do not see any relevance in mentioning the performer's race, gender or sexual appeal. Music is universal! Music is supposed to rise up above these petty stuff!
She exhibits such wonderful economy of movement while she plays, with such extraordinary articulation, purity of tone and marvelous phrasing. There is much to admire in this young woman, and much to learn from, as well. So thankful for RUclips!
Incredible. Love love love. I grew up listening to this piece from all performers... and got really bored of it.... until now. WOW, so fresh, Yuga brought Tchaikovsky (and a whole of others composers) into the 21st century with brave new interpretations. So exciting. Love it.
Yuja Wang is the most talented Keyboard Master you’ll ever find whether in person, on RUclips, or any other medium! As I am an Amateur Chopin fanatic, I’ve yet to find any other artist as sensational as a performer as Yuja! Whenever I get a whim for laidback enjoyment, I always dial up Ms Wang to fill the bill! What a major dichotomy! I always dreamed of playing the ivories like what we are witnessing here., However, it is not to be because without the formal taught method, I just winged it for eight (8) decades and it sounds okay but, not at all like Yuja Wang of course! Ok
Yeah verily. I'm a 69 y/o Texas cowboy, and I love her too! God bless Yuja Wang, her wonderful parents, family, teachers, and all her amazing Chinese supporters. Yuja Wang brings cultures, people, together, breaking down ethnic barriers, using her incredible creativity, skill on piano, along with her personal charm, charisma, magnetism, sincerity, candor, and love, respect, for the composers and music. God bless Yuja Wang, indeed! All China should be proud of her. She's a gift from God to humanity.
Tchaikovsky would be so happy with this lady and the whole orchestra.

ComposerInUK If you had been alive in 1874/5 you would have been one in a million to have even heard of it or understood what it was, let alone heard it even once.
pix046 You may be right. It's just that I don't understand the slightly absurd point you're making. Justify it, please.
ComposerInUK Yes! And part of that fantastic time is the more than one MILLION hits that this piece has received!
I realize that this is a popular work and that Yuja Wang is a charismatic pianist, but 1, 000,000 hits!
john smith I hadn't seen that! Isn't it wonderful? And some people will insist that classical music is dying... Good to hear from you :)
She seems to have the essential of this concerto covered.

Otherwise, ya got it covered...
excellent!
I like your analysis.😅
She dresses like a whore and will be judged by a Holy God for it.

Written by unearthly genius; played by a surreal talent!
Awesome performance!! ...

She is the most talented performer that I have ever seen!!! I do not look at her dresses, I look at her hands!!!! Like no other pianist!!!
I cannot imagine the countless hours, days, weeks, months, years, decades of total and complete dedication it takes to be able to play incredible pieces of music like this one, and hit every single note crisply and cleanly in front of a packed auditorium.
quite true. just look at the muscles behind her little fingers. they are huge!
Impossible!

It's a pretty good racket!
How can a human remember so many notes and present it with such sensibility, vitality, and accuracy. Yija must be a superhuman or a being from another planet.
That's what makes a soloist great.
Yuja Wang for me is the greatest pianist of all time. So many concertos played to perfection & no written music in front of her all learnt & memorised. She is a majestic pianist indeed. Love her. ❤
You live and breathe it. It tells a story, and you're the one sharing it with everyone. Easy to remember something you are so connected with.
a true human, instead ( we are all part of Source, as is all life -- owning that and giving oneself to being the instrument of Source is the secret not so secret when we don't obscure it with bs...).
Love it!
Red dress against a backdrop of black tuxedos and gowns. Love the contrast and her free spirit, not to mention her playing.
definitely a free spirit. she doesn't care about a short red skirt!

I absolutely agree. She is lovely.
Pianist looks beautiful. Super cute hair cut, looks great, and infinitely talented. Who in their right mind would ever criticize anything about this performance? We've heard this a million times, but super appreciated her performance. Absolutely loved it.
Yes!!..I agree with you 100%...

Her magical fingers running on the piano are amazing.....
This piece is so very emotional + stirring...
Love her gowns too!!...
Have seen a few of her interviews, & she's warm + intelligent.......

This is simply God given - what a gift to enjoy this heaven on Earth. Thank you all
THIS IS THE MOST EXTROARDINARY PERFORMANCE OF THIS WORK I HAVE EVER HEARD.
We are in comments kid, there is not yelling. He is just showing us his passion.
I always prefer Rubinstein's interpretation, with a different use of the pedal, which is better for my taste
I don't care what anyone says about her clothes or appearance. Fact is, she is an amazing talent. Wish I could play like her.
very clever answer, indeed
Armando Risso Just honest. I never wish I could play like her. I love that she is the only one who can.

Brilliantly said! This is one of the best comments I’ve ever read on RUclips. So on point.
Memorising pieces like these are not the hardest thing to do in comparison to actually playing them
@@aleksPval Quite correct, if you have the talent to perform a concerto like this, memorization is rather easy.
6 years later, this is still the best Tchaikovsky Paino Concerto I have heard. Yujia has magic hands, best illustrated in the finally, relaxed but with control and confidence. I am blessed.

Now 10 years later this is still the best rendition for me.

Me too, I can listen to her all day
One is beguiled by the freshness and joy in her performance.
Listened to other versions over the year probably over a hundred times, and this is, by far, the best and I cannot stop keep coming back to it.
Me too!
Et Slatovslav RICHTER,. et . . .
@@bernardpoulin5254 This is indeed a great version. Thanks for sharing!
Same for me.
Yuja has a distinct demeanor & incredible pace & talent throughout the whole time.Such brilliance.
I don't think it's been mentioned here, but Yuja Wang has, imo, THE most beautiful hands.. strong, upright (not flat), graceful, expressive in themselves.
@Timmy Tran Does it really matter if she's gay or not? I find your comment to be quite homophobic and sexist, sir.
@Timmy Tran Astute observation lol
@Timmy Tran Are you 12?
@Timmy Tran No
@Timmy Tran What’s that got to do w it? PS. She’s hyper-hetero. Sorry.
This is not a song. It’s a piano concerto.
Hi this is not a song as there are no words
I'm not the first to comment, but a 'song' is something that is 'sung' (do you see the connection in the words?). In fact, there is no immediate equivalent to 'song' in classical music; in opera there is an equivalent, and the word is, 'aria'.
How about the German word 'lied?'@@bryangl1
Well said
Beautiful comment!
Still awestruck every time I watch this performance. The absolute control she has over the keyboard is beyond words. Bravo, bravo!
One of the most beautiful pieces in classical music!
No doubt this is a superlative performance of this piece, certainly one of the best ever done. Congratulations to the orchestra, conductor, and Yuja.
I totally understand !
I applauded to the screen. Same feeling!
how many necks do you have?
WOW I am speechless. Ms. Wang is probably among the best pianists of our lifetime, so expressive and in the meantime so crystal-clear. I really wonder how anyone could criticize her art...probably they have never played the piano in their life, cause otherwise they would immediately understand how unreachable performances like this one are.
Thanks for uploading this video!
Yu Ja Wang: Superb in personality, looks, intelligence and talent and that dress should go in the Classical Music Hall Of Fame!
Chunkitpoh?

Well stated, Sir, well stated, indeed. Right ON! I love everything about Yuja Wang.
You nailed it!
Finally one conductor who can follow Yuja's absolutely musical fire … without wavering .. what a great interpretation of this eternal marvel of musical composition ...
Probably helps him to be the only person in the orchestra who can't see her and be utterly captivated by her... playing... :)
And yeah, that's a joke, she's got me nearly catatonic and I'm in another window and I can't see her.
Truly spoken for me too!

The multi-angle shooting of Yuja's recital shows both how difficult of this Tchaikovsky work and how gifted Yuja are.
Thank you 🤗 🌹
How I HATE the over acting of pianists with their facial expressions, or too much body movements this way, that way, leaning back, leaning right down over the keys.
Well, she DID appear at the Proms in 22 (I think) and stunned the audience with this and with an equally stunning encore.
Emotionally she is bringing me to musicals levels I have not been before. The way she plays on that hughe and difficult instrument is fenomenal. Blessed by having Mrs. Yuja wang among us in times where music💝💝 is probably one of the best healing tools in these disturbing times.
Considering I grew up with Horowitz/Toscanini and Sviatoslav Richter/Karajan. THIS is one of THE BEST and I'm 56 years old

Yuja Wang can wear whatever she is comfortable in, as long as she has that wonderful music in her soul and that powerful technique in her hands.
34:45 - I don't think I've heard these octave passages articulated so ferociously (and perfectly)!
Gracias ...
En verdad goce compartido. Genial tu síntesis
y gentileza. Gracias.
Jorge Alfredo Gonzalez Gonzalez De nada. Y gracias para ti tambien
Estoy totalmente de acuerdo con usted. Respecto a compararla con Lang Lang es insultarla.

VETTA, GO FUCK OFF.
@ Leland Harrington Thank you for that lovely comment. It was both touching and insightful. Let us hope Ms. Wang plays for a long time, and passes on her knowledge to the pupils she takes in time.
Are you serious? Or an unpleasant person hiding behind a pseudonym
My God:you listen to this music and just feel God definitely gifted some people.Tchaikovsky was multiply blessed
A superb performance of timeless Tchaikovsky by Yuja Wang and The Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra!
Judging by the thumbs above, this video of Yuja's has 95% approval rating, surprised as many gave it a thumbs down as it is a flawless performance.
Genius composer, and a genius pianist that truly does this piece justice.
+Víctor Acedo
Well, because they have the opportunity to choose pretty much how they dress. Men just have the ole boring tux.
Beauty transcends silence. Sex appeal must exist for humanity to go to the trouble of reproducing itself. Not only does she arouse men sexually, her music appelas to their sould. Women, unless they are gay, will just have to focus on her music.
Victor: No sex, no human race. That she has tremendous erotic power and is musically gifted just makes her an even greater gift.
You can turn it around: I have read comments on Boris Berezovsky and how he has gained weight. Imagine those same comments for a female performer.....
Strength and beauty! She certainly has shown the world she is the real master of this masterpiece.
Yuja Wang's performance was so amazing! The best piano version I've heard so far!
She has played the best performance i have ever heard.
Only Andre Watts can compare with her.
Thanks to all the talented people throughout history. Our world is richer for your contributions! Thank you!
When that technically skilled and gifted, it is almost expected in younger artists that there will be little emotional connection. She, however, captivates me with the breath she gives to the piece and the instrument and she brings it to life with beautiful emotion. Passionate, daring and charming.
Came here for the great music and discovered Yuja Wang thank you very much !
+Mick Dunn I'm pretty sure she has too much class to respond like that.
Moronic replies bother me NOT!
+Mick Dunn I wonder if she actually can do Rubik's Cube.
Wow! the more I listen to this the better it gets, and I loved it the first time I listened to it. Her interpretation is perfect, I love it!
Yuja Wang - the most perfect, classical pianist one will ever find in cyberspace! As she has paid her dues by being on the piano bench since age four! The phenomenal sounds just roll right off her fingers! Her physical beauty puts the finishing touch!
Her interpretation of the finale is simply ethereal. It was like listening to this piece for the first time again.
Ok
God Bless YuJia Wang, a working hard and talent Chinese girl from BeiJing. we proud of her and love her.
I'm a 68 y/o Texas cowboy, and I love and admire Yuja Wang as much as any musician on earth!
I am 64 and think she is amazing
Yin Yeung...you give heart to your own.....so inspiring....
right on
Name a Hollywood actress dressed like this has talent like this. Keep it up Yuja! I love your performances each time.
"Why there are dozens!" "Name one!" "Ummmmmmmmm...."
We could listen to this the entire day.
¡¡Bravo, Bravísimo! ¡Imponente, Incansable, Extraordinaria Yuja Wang en todo el desarrollo del concierto! ¡Insuperable! ¡Bravo, Bravísimo!
