Carter still dunked ferociously after those comments. Sam Mitchell focused on Bosh/Araujo as Babcock rebuilt. Carter had higher rebound/steal percentages pre-trade, and Jason Kidd made sure he was the top scorer on the Nets.
He attained a college diploma in African-American studies which he studied for while he was playing for the Raptors. In US, college is part of your identity and his mother is a teacher who insisted that Carter attend. If I was in my mid twenties and can celebrate sports and academics in one day, I’d do it! He sent the right message as Candice Parker had said.

There’s a reason why Bhatia called Vince Carter, the greatest Raptor of all time. Have you ever considered there are often two sides to a story. In this case, the mainstream media narrative was manufactured. The doc corrected it.
VC has played the 12th most games in a Raptors jersey. DeMar Rozen, Kyle Lowry & Morris Peterson are way more qualified for that stat. Pascal Siakam is one of the most popular IMHO, so why not one of these 4 guys? Kawai Leonard was the most iconic for their Title win I thought.
Only Raptors deserving of a jersey retirement would be Lowery and Derozan. Counting stats and more so playoff success matter most. Not winning a dunk comp. If Canada basketball's HOF wants to honor Vince for his influence on the growth of the game in Canada sure I would accept that. But his actual accomplishments as a Raptor are simply lackluster.

Only guys who mainly cover hockey who are occasional NBA guys especially after the Raptors win a title with a guy they KNEW wasn't staying would cry about Vince Carter getting his number retired. They obviously didn't watch or follow his career...he made the raptors RELEVANT lol stay in your lane guys stick to bitching about the Leafs.
But what did he actually accomplish as a Raptor ? 1 best of 5 playoff series win is meh.... He's nowhere near any of the all time leaders in major stat categories or games played. I absolutely get why there are a lot of people who don't think he deserves this honor.
