Probably my favorite Led Zeppelin song which is saying a lot considering their catalog. Still gives me goosebumps. This is a folk duet sung by Robert Plant (Lead singer) and Sandy Denny (guest vocalist) and is included on Led Zeppelin's untitled 1971 album, commonly known as Led Zeppelin IV. The song's instrumentation features acoustic guitar and mandolin playing, while the lyrics allude to J. R. R. Tolkien's fantasy novel The Lord of the Rings. Can't beat that combination! RIP Sandy Denny. She passed away too soon at only 31 and is still considered one of Britain's greatest folk rock singers. She was the only guest vocalist ever to appear on a Led Zeppelin album.
I was 19 in ‘71 watched them do this live Album just came out God what night. The acid was great and the times were ,… so bright you had to wear shades Yes WE had the best music
Led Zeppelin is a treasure trove of classic music. Whether we are talking about this track, 'Stairway to Heaven', 'Whole Lotta' Love', 'Black Dog', 'Kashmir', 'Immigrant Song', etc. One of the all time greatest rock and roll bands. Excellent selection, Dani.💯
In college, I remember walking out of the math building after I thought I might have just failed an exam in a graduate level course in partial differential equations. I put on my Sony Walkman and the first lyrics that played were: The pain of war can not exceed the woe of AFTER MATH... and I agreed with Robert Plant.
Dani, wow, I haven't watched one of your reactions in a long time. I originally followed you because of your passoonate Elvis reactions, but then I also liked some of the original content you were posting at the time. But it just suddenly popped up in my feed again, and I really like the way you really engaged with this and, I don't know, it's great. It's really good. ❤
Definitely a great medieval sound of a haunting masterpiece. A perfect harmony blend between Robert and Sandy Denny’s voices are technically perfect together and a great selection to choose her for this iconic song. Great reaction and song selection Dani.
A few it's one their main influences..Ramble On , Over the Hills and Far Away, Misty Mnt Hop , The Way, Stairway to Heaven, Bron Y Aur Stomp, Going to California and that is just off the top of my head.
Great reaction, I grew up with Led Zep from the beginning when they burst upon the scene, I have all their original vinyls and a few 8 track tapes, shows how old I am. Great job Dani.
Great reaction. Misty Mountain Hop is supposed to have ties to JRR Tolkien books also. I always thought this whole album showed their talents by different genres of music. Keep them coming.
One of my favorite Zeppelin songs, although that is kind of like picking a favorite child. I literally wore out 2 cassettes of Zeppelin IV back in the day!
I’m glad you saw the Tolkien in the lyrics. The glue in this song are the acoustic guitar played by Jimmy Page, and the mandolin played by John Paul Jones.
This is a good moment to take a sidestep into Sandy Denny's music, please listen to Fairport Conventions "Who knows where the time goes" with Sandy singing.
THANKS DANI ATKINSON FOR PLAYING LED ZEPPELIN ,LED ZEPPELIN IS AN AWESOME ROCK AND ROLL BAND-👍👍👍✌️✌️✌️🥳🥳🥳👌👌👌😁😁😁🎄🎄🎄😀😀😀🎉🎉🎉🌞🌞🌞😎😎😎👋👋👋DANI ATKINSON -YOU ARE AN AWESOME REACTOR TO EXCELLENT MUSIC AND VIDEOS-👋👋👋🌞🌞🌞😎😎😎🎉🎉🎉😀😀😀🎄🎄🎄😁😁😁👌👌👌👍👍👍🥳🥳🥳✌️✌️✌️
The Battle of Evermore was one of a number of LZ songs with references to LOTR. Ramble On, Misty Mountain Hop, and even Stairway to Heaven are all filled with references or lines from Tolkien. The guitar you hear is actually a mandolin, although there is a guitar strumming along. This is the only LZ song that features a guest vocalist. Sandy Denny was considered the top female folk vocalist of her time (in England). Her voice, described as "angelic" Sandy Denny was the lead singer for Fairport Convention. Their breakout 1968 album "Leige and Leaf," is worth a review in itself. (Richard Thompson, the lead guitarist of the band was a phenomenon all by himself). Yes, Tolkien, in spades!
I would love for someone to react to Heart, Dream of the Archer. One could even do Silvan Song just before it as well. Totally the same style with the Mandolin/guitar vibe. Great reaction BTW!!!!
When this album was originally released in 1971…..I was 17 back then…there were three ways of listening 8-track, cassette or vinyl…I alway chose cassette……this song was the third track on Side One ….the next track was Stairway to Heaven…this song and Going to California were both acoustic tracks on the album….the others were all classic tracks…….Sandy Denny is the only female vocalist on any Zeppelin song
man while I was listening to the lyrics it made me think about all these politicians who hold all the power and they just have no respect for the power they hold
Incredible for sure, Led Zeppelin is beyond belief good, they maybe the best sounding band of all time no matter what they are playing. Only the Beatles and Pink Floyd are in that debate for me. For another Dani, try Thank You from their immortal 2nd album, another great ballad, they just don't make bad songs my dear, no matter which one you react to in their entire catalog, chances are it is not only a banger, but a masterpiece. Enjoy, nice to see you again, Rock On! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎶🔥
@@DaniAtkinson Start with side 1 track 1 and just play the album out in order from there....then follow through with each subsequent album. It will make for an awesome reaction series that LZ fans and even casual listeners will love while giving you a great insight in the the musical evolution of the band. Looking forward to that journey if you decide to take it.
Try listening to the same song by Heart. Heart opened for Led Zepplin many times and they do a more refined version although the guitar is very similar.
Great reaction. There is a nice live versaion of this song performed by Plant and Page in the 1990s, long after Led Zeppelin disbanded. ruclips.net/video/wCQiPXDZHcc/видео.htmlfeature=shared
Dani, your recent covers have been awesome! Great to have you react to some classic rock from my youth. It has been too long since you reacted to The Warning. I suggest their song "Disciple" which warns us about blindly following anyone, or we will remain in our space of ignorance. ruclips.net/video/Z-bU17hLfsQ/видео.htmlsi=E4v3DznrWL6jPABT Angelina Jordan just put out a audio only version of "What a Wonderful World" ruclips.net/video/E0YhXSW699M/видео.htmlsi=O3PcG16I3ZHCxhgQ

Aw her story is very sad. Way way too young.
Jimmy Page actually played bass on this song, While JPJ played Mandolin
RIP Sandy Denny.
I was 19 in ‘71 watched them do this live
Album just came out
God what night. The acid was great and the times were ,… so bright you had to wear shades
Yes WE had the best music
i was there but i dont remember...
18 years old then and a hit of chocolate mescalin was required before listening to this album.
Ann and Nancy Wilson do an amazing version of this song!

Truly a band you could pick a song by lottery chance and it would almost surely be a banger, if not a masterpiece!

This was a time WHEN GIANTS WALKED THE EARTH 🌎 LED ZEPPELIN ❤

Singer Robert Plant is a huge fan of the LOTR books, there’s a few Zeppelin songs that reference LOTR. Thank you for your reaction.

Thanks for the Led Zeppelin ❤❤ my favorite band since 1969😮 rock on ❤
Also my favorite band since 1969 I was 11 yo then!
Love this song. Thanks for reacting to it!

Glad you enjoyed this reaction!
The pain of war cannot exceed the woe of aftermath.
Great reaction. Misty Mountain Hop is supposed to have ties to JRR Tolkien books also. I always thought this whole album showed their talents by different genres of music. Keep them coming.
"Ramble On" is another Zep tune that alludes to Tolkien's Middle Earth.
'T was in the darkest depths of Mordor
I met a girl so fair
But Gollum, and the evil one
Crept up and slipped away with her
Her, her, yeah."
Thanks for this, such beautifully sensitive and refreshing review ✨🙌🏻

Opposite. Jimmy page on mandolin and Jpj on guitar

Thank you, I will!!
Yes please! One of the greatest singer-songwriters of all time, taken away far too soon.
I've misheard the lyrics for decades! I always though it said "War is the common cry. Pick up your swords and decide."

The GOATS OF GOATS…PERIOD! There will never be another Led Zeppelin. Been a fan since I was a kid. I am now 72 and they still amaze me! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
What a great moment! One of my favorites ❤
As a huge Zeppelin fan,,,,,I really enjoy seeing people realize LZ is MORE than just a heavy metal band. 💥💥💥👍😎
Two of my favs.....Led Zeppelin and Tolkien!!!!
Some people rank this as their #1 song in Zep's catalog.
Wow that’s awesome, I can see why though
They are magnificent! That is actually a mandolin!
Kashmir is also poetry in motion

Only to say Dani ♥️♥️♥️
Very good interpretation of this song
Enjoyed your reaction very much Dani, new subscriber.
Not many songs had no drums in it . Testament of their creativity!
