I was once in the same cafe as Russell Crowe. He punched me repeatedly in the face. Okay, that second bit isn't true. Mainly I just wanted to boast that I was once in the same cafe as Russell Crowe. Because my life is pathetic.
I know he's been dead for 12 years, but I really think that Marlon Brando should've been on this list somewhere. The stories I've heard about him on the set of the godfather paint him as absolutely ridiculous, and I have heard much the same of Apocalypse now
Yh ive heard he was notoriously a pain in the ass to work with. If it wasnt for the fact he was the greatest actor alive at the time, no director would of gone anywhere near him
No, he couldn't be the greatest actor. Actual actors LEARN their lines! Or at least are able to improv enough to keep the scene going. I'd say he was the greatest reader.
To be fair, Christian Bale is only notorious for that one outburst on the set of Terminator Salvation, there have been no stories from any of his other movies about him being difficult. Plus, I think he was justified in his outburst, the man is a method actor. Fucking with his scene would be the equivalent of walking into a chef`s kitchen with shit on ur hands and grabbing all of the food
Bill Proud He's a overall cock. He yelled at 2 teenage girls cause they asked for autographs and pics. He lectured them while screaming about how it's not cool to do that
I mean, to be completely fair to Bale, that Terminator tape had a lot of good reasons to piss him off. Not too much diva as someone who snaps under too much stress and unprofessionalism. At least to me.
Lokrow P I personally think that tape being leaked proved him right. Someone kept that recording and uploaded it for the world to see. From what I gather, that was one outburst, it's not like he was doing it all the time.
b t s n Well, the guy he was pissed about had no respect for the actors and was very unprofessional, I think Bale was completely justified and there's no reason he needed a cooler head. The production of T4 was a complete shitshow so I can somewhat understand being pissed in this kind of situation.
Ryan Malcolm McGuinness Yeah exactly. Though the recording was probably the sound recordist on set turning it on when it started or having left it on. Plus there were a lot more people from the set who chimed in saying Bale's outburst was completely justified.
Christian Bale is one of the most professional actors in hollywood. He fucking tries hard to get the character right. That one incident was not his fault. You too would get angry if one guy keeps fucking shit up when you're under pressure. Shame WhatCulture, shame
Tiana Pi Tesr well if they ever do a list of 10 Famous Actors Who never did anything wrong to you in your idle dreams I'm sure that information would be very useful.
>nice guy Bill Murray That is just his public persona, he is notoriously hard to work with. Even the beloved Harold Ramis de-friended him after Groundhog Day.
Bale has one recorded shouting session and that makes him "notoriously difficult to work with?" Even though every other director and actor who works with him say he's great. Come one guys you're better than that.
You left out Daniel Day Lewis and Mandy Patinkin. Those two have a notorious reputation for driving everyone involved with their films to the point of violence.
Regarding Val Kilmer, If you ever watch the documentary "Lost Soul" on the making of "The Island of Doctor Moroue (It's on netflix) You get a good idea of what working with Val was like. both he and Marlon Brando were a special kind of fresh hell.
Bales was understand able.. Spends hours waiting in a trailer to do a scene at the drop of a hat when everyone else is ready. Gets worked up and emotional for the scene, it's going great then some dope is walking around in the background putting you off.. Dude you had all day to get the fucking lights right.
I would have thought that Marlon Brando would have been on this list for how difficult he was to work with on the set of Apocalypse Now and how much he demanded for the role.
It was a while ago but Marlon Brando and Marilyn Monroe were famous for being absolutely awful to work with. Marilyn constantly turned up late and forgot her lines, while Brando never bothered to learn them in the first place so he could be more "method".
One of my favourite examples of Marlon Brando was his role in Superman. The scene in which he's monologuing to Kal-El before rocketing him away, he refused to memorize his lines for whatever reason. So they put the script in the space crib and he read straight from it. If you watch the scene, you can see his eyes move across the page as he reads the lines.
Yeah, Marlon wanted his line reads to be fresh and all of his famous pauses were due to him looking for the next hidden part of the script, but that's not what made him difficult to work with. As I recall, he was only difficult (intentionally, at least) on one set: _The Island of Doctor Moreau_. I can't remember what his problem was, but he gained weight, demanded the midget be with him at all times, and made all sorts of other ludicrous demands.
Come on people, that incident on the sets of Terminator Salvation was just a bad day at work for Christian Bale. He is known to be one of the most professional and hardworking actors in the industry. It's about time everyone started putting his name on the "Difficult to work with" list. The incident with Shane Hurlbut was just unfortunate. Bale is an incredible person and actor.
When people have insane demands like Jennifer Lopez has in her Riders, its mostly to make sure that the people are actually reading it as the show usually has insane specifications that if you miss one or two, then there could be injuries to the performer or band.
I think it's her movie choices rather than her reputation for being 'difficult' that torpedoed her career, but that reputation probably didn't help. It's a shame, because she's charming onscreen.
Before watching, I am going to take a swing at it… in no particular order: Jennifer Lopez Shia LeBoef Marlon Brando Edward Norton Steven Seagal Val Kilmer Wesley Snipes Katherine Heigl Alec Baldwin Lindsey Lohan (ok, I was running out of ideas on the last few there)
Didn't Bale apologize for his rant on the poor technician guy? One meltdown does not make someone a diva in my book... and to put him in front of someone who demands a white room with special stuff in it, which is a Sheldon Cooper level of madness, is not fair.
Firstly, Kevin Smith has a whole series where he talks about people he didn't get along with, so maybe it isn't everyone else who is difficult. Secondly, I wonder if Smith has pulled back on this and reached out to Bruce Willis, now that Willis is ill.
As an independent filmmaker, I work with actors often. Granted, no one of this caliber, but the principle is still the same. If I find an actor difficult to work with, I generally do not work with that actor again. Or, if someone were to go all Christian Bale on my set, fire them immediately.
Fans always act like J-Lo "sEeMs LiKe ThE nIcEsT pErSoN!" But everything in this vid is absolutely true. One of my former bosses worked as an assistant while J-Lo was staying at a resort in the Bahamas in the early 2000s for two weeks. My old boss said that it was the most hellish two-weeks of her life. NOTHING was ever up to J-Lo's standards and she was known for not only yelling, but also breaking things A LOT. The woman is a complete self-absorbed nightmare.
Ive worked with both Russel Crowe and Chrstian Bale(twice) I think you got Russel all wrong, he was so friendly. You hit Christan bale on the head though, made eye contact with him before he filmed the last fight scene of the Dark Knight rises.....he kicked everyone out of the building, which mean ALL those extras didnt have a bathroom to use :/ Then on out of the furnace he flipped shit because Dogs kept barking and ruining the take.

Oh, Ed Norton, you silly silly man. He pulled out of the MCU because he found out that Avengers would be an ensemble flick, aka he'd have to share the spotlight. Apparently, though, the break was amicable on both sides. And we got a much better Bruce Banner out of the equation, so...gonna call that one a win.
Christian Bale shouldnt be so high... I dont think Ive heard anything Bad about him if ignoring the Terminator Meltdown... Dont Get me wrong that Meltdown alone should guarantee him a place on this list but ABOVE J-Lo? Rly?
Marlon Brando and Klaus Kinski. Kinski should be number one. Only Werner Herzog directed him more than once. Just watch My Best Fiend and you'll agree. www.imdb.com/title/tt0200849/?ref_=nv_sr_1

Leshka147 Not just my opinion, many other actors proclaim him as the greatest actor
He was definitely the best live theater actor at the time, but not so much when it comes to films. He was awesome on Broadway, not so great on screen.
I was actually about to make the same comment! Watch Hearts of Darkness (the documentary about the making of Apocalypse Now) for reference.
