Thanks Jordan for posting this. I'm not into wrestling like I was when I was younger, but it still is nice to see these heroes from my childhood. Jay must be very good and respected/trusted for both Flair and Steamboat to have him participate in their final matches so that they are taken care of and not hurt. Steamboat definitely has taken good care of himself. The Rock n Roll express guys, it's amazing they are walking still walking after how long they have been going and doing that high-flying stuff.

Seeing Steamboat in this match brings back precious memories when my parents would have friends over for watching wrestling watch parties on an ancient contraption called a VCR tape. My parents were still alive then and I enjoyed every minute of those glory days.

Jordon, I’ve enjoyed all your wrestling Vlogs, this one made me smile. I grew up watching regional wrestling with my dad. Being from NC it was Mid-Atlantic Championship wrestling. Men that are legions today. I can remember when they just starting out. I remember when when a young Ricky Steamboat first came on the wrestling scene. First time I saw him wrestling I knew he was going to be something special, and he was. It was good to see him in the ring one last time.

Dude, I forgot all about this, and I feel stupid that I didn’t go. Him and Savage, when Savage came off the top rope with the bell into Ricky‘s throat. That was incredible TV, and is still seared into my mind as one of the best feud I ever saw throughout the entire time of me watching wrestling. I was lucky enough, in central PA, to get pretty much every promotion on TV. AWA, NWA, WCCW, WCW, USWF, USWA, obviously WWF and the original GLOW. I’m sure there was a few more. But I was always amazed at the fact that I was able to pick up all of these wrestling companies on my local TV. Because it was before there were 1 million cable channels.
Regardless, that must’ve been pretty amazing being at that match and Flairs last match. Again, I feel stupid I didn’t go. For whatever reason I didn’t even think about it. I think with ricks last match, I pretty much figured that he will probably wrestle again at some point. Lol. Ricky, I’m not so sure.
Such great times, and great matches that I’ve seen throughout my entire life. I even went to Wrestling school when I was 17 and wrestled until I was in my mid 20s. I truly didn’t think I would ever have a shot at doing anything WWE, because all of their guys at that time or 6 foot 2+ and 250+ pounds. What I never realized it is, people like Ricky and Bret and Shawn were all 5’ 9” - 6’ or so tall. Many were under 210 pounds or so. When I started wrestling, I was about 6 feet tall and around 170. Which I would like to go up to 190 some odd pounds. This was before the Rey Mysterio’s, and Chris Jericho’s and such were around. Had I just held out and done it for another five years, I would’ve been writing to mix with all of those guys.
My first match was in the same arena that Piper hit Snuka with the coconut and I believe it was the same place that Shawn kicked Marty and threw him through the window also. Which was the Hamburg Fieldhouse. In Hamburg, Pennsylvania. The funny thing is, when I wrestled there… Which I did a handful of times, and I also did commentary for them on sports channel. The Wrestling company was IWCCW. At least one of my matches was televised on sports channel. I wish I could get a hold of it. But in any case, I didn’t realize when I was wrestling there that those events took place there. I feel so blessed that I was able to have my first match in the same place that all of those historic events took place. Plus so many others that I probably don’t know were filmed there.
The crazy thing is, the Hamburg field house is out in the middle of nowhere. Outside of Reading Pennsylvania. You wonder how Vince McMahon ever found the place. As I think it was a high school gym, that was actually located away from the high school. It was the perfect place, back then, because it could fit probably 500 to 1000 people comfortably. With it looking bigger on TV. But I’m sure, especially back then, that it was, easier to fill and obviously always looked pretty incredible on TV.
I’m glad Lex was there and looking good. As well as so many other greats. Makes me sad. I wasn’t there with you, my friend. I hope everything else is well and you had a great Thanksgiving and have a great Christmas, if I don’t say something to you before then. Be safe and remain the happy go lucky person you are. We are a dying breed. Thank you for everything you do, making people feel like they are along for the ride with you. I truly appreciate this video and being able to watch these matches as you did. Brings out the kid in me every time.

My very first show was for my birthday Feb 12, 1987 (my birthday is the 13th) at the Dorton Arena. I’ll never forget it. The main event was a “Lights Out Cage Match with The Rock & Roll Express vs Tag Champs Rick Rude & The Raging Bull Manny Fernandez… I wish the arena were renovated to accommodate actual tv events because that would be a cool old school venue to see packed on 📺. The way the seats are designed it would look a lot bigger too.

I love Ricky Steamboat, he reminds me of Bruce Lee. And I remember when my parents took my brother and I to WrestleMania 3 when they came to Pontiac Michigan, Ricky and Macho man's match was good, all of the matches were.❤️❤️💓❤️😊

Can’t believe I sat in the back seat of the car next to Ricky Steamboat. Now I was so nervous that I didn’t ask him anything because I didn’t want to bother him lol. Such a great moment though

It's a shame they couldn't have gone real old school and found an old NWA wrestling ring, along with original ropes and turnbuckle pads, and maybe they could have gotten Tommy Young to be a special referee for one of the matches here

The Dorton Arena has quite a rich history. Elvis and Prince have both performed there. Countless other music legends and probably hundreds of wrestling shows. I live about 20 miles from it.

While this match was far from meeting Ricky's standard from the 80's, it was still much better than most guys could do at 69 years old. He gave a respectable performance, and considering how long it had been since he had wrestled a match that's pretty damned impressive. He could have wrestled at a top level well in to the early 2000's. He was that great. Nice to see both Steamboat and Sting doing well in their final matches! (Unline someone else who should have let it go long ago...)
