Your channel came up in a search for setups for wet weather swagging. I am Adelaide Hills based and have just bought an 1100 Dirty Dee. Had my first night in it last night, set up in the back yard. Just the swag - no tarp. What is the tarp you are using? What are they like in significant winds? We have a severe weather warning for the next day or so.
I have subscribed as I find your combination of acknowledgement of country, useful information, and conversational style, all set in nature's wonderland, very appealing. Thank you very much.
Cheers mate, really appreciate the awesome feedback and glad you find it interesting, thanks for the sub too 🙂
I have a couple of tarps, both from DD Hammocks. Green one is 4m x 4m and the brown one is 3m x 3m. They're brilliant, light weight, strong, pack down nicely in stuff sacks and easy to work with. I have had them up in pretty high wind and the blow about a bit, but all tarps to. I use bungee cord loops if it's going to be windy for some give. They cost about $100 each or there about, but that's pretty standard for lightweight, reliable tarps. Alton also do similar gear if you want to stay in Australia.
Great that you go a swag, many years of fun ahead of you, the Adelaide Hills are a great spot to test it out too, enjoy ✌🏻
Love it. I so feel you mate it’s so good to get away from work and recharge the batteries. I forgot it can get bloody cold in oz, particularly in the mountains. Awesome vid
what we call mountains you call pimples...😛
Thanks for stopping by and taking a minute to leave a comment, appreciate it✌🏻
Too good, very chilled video. Always enjoy your uploads!
Thanks mate, always nice to hear these sorts of positive feedback, cheers ✌🏻
@@outandabout_oz all good brother, keep it up
nice video mate! What do you use in terms of sleeping gear in your swag? Is it just the standard mattress or do you have a topper of some sort? Also do you find a sleeping bag or doona better? cheers mate
Hi Alastair, I just use the mattress the swag came with. It's pretty good and one of the reasons I opted for the 23 Zero. 70mm think, pretty comfy, never feels hard but I suspect it will start to get soft one day and I'll replace or get a topper. I prefer a quilt for sure if I have a choice, sleeping bags are too constrictive but when it's -5C they come in handy. I have a good one for that but hope that quilt will look after me for most of the year. Thanks for the question ✌🏻
Great watching you mate!enjoyed your simplicity
Thanks mate, appreciate it. As an aside, I first saw your comment as we were sailing out of Greece, so it was pretty cool coincidence I had been wandering around Greece all day ✌🏻
Sound like a much larger adventure, Happy travels and enjoy the Beaty of a European summer
Everything seems upside-down, inside-out, and backwards in the land down under 🇦🇺. Not only is there a 12 hour time difference there from the East coast of the America 🇺🇲, but right now its late Summer here and its late Winter down over there. Cheers mate and great video.
brilliant comment and yeah, I often live vicariously through camping videos from the US this time not the year to see some sun 🙂 Love it all though and I suspect I will be sick of the heat down her by early December 😛 thanks for dropping by and taking a moment to comment, appreciate it ✌🏻
😂
Mate do you ever do long camp trips like over 2 weeks in multiple locations
G'day Jerry, generally if I am away for a couple of weeks or even a few days it's with the family and not camping. The camps and hikes I do are basically about me getting away from work and getting into the bush to recharge.
I'd love to go camping for a week or 2 travelling around, but you'll have to take that up with my wife 😛 ✌🏻
Top stuff mate! Nice and simple, a great way to unwind and recharge!
for sure, that's what it's all about, wish I was back there tonight 😛 Thanks for stopping by, appreciate the support ✌🏻
Nice video man! I got a double deluxe swag I can't imagine carrying that around. I'm surprised to see you making fire. They are so strict here in Oz. Cheers!
bit cold down this way without a fire, but I am sure we'll have fire bans this summer. Yeah the big swags aren't for lugging around too far, how do you find the double? I nearly went that way.
Best idea while doing camp I need more man
thanks for stopping by and taking a seance to leave a comment. More definitely on the way ✌🏻
Thanks the reason I ask is that I just did last weekend two night at the Murrumbidgee junction reserve and I was away 3 nights from Melbourne where I am from
I am just wondering if people do bush camping for over 2 days how do they keep them selves clean as there are no showers especially winter as summer one can go for a swim
I assume some people bush camp and go just to the caravan park for a shower and pay like $10 but camp not in the caravan park
One never sees on you tube explaining how they wash in winter if they don’t use a caravan or stay in caravan parks more than one or two nights
Just an observation mate
Also what do they do if they go for two to three weeks bush camping
Each night in the bush in winter and not in a caravan or caravan park
all good and it's a good question. I never see anyone talk about it either. I know there are a lot of camp showers on the market. Big black bags that heat in the sun with a shower attachment and a cubicle tent to shower in. I tend to make use of rivers and creeks - you don;t need to0 be out for days on end to need a wash 😛
Great little camping expedition Chris. Great to see the Wattle out, the first signs of spring. Thank you for taking us on your adventure Chris. Have a great weekend. 👍🏼🙏🏼🤠
Cheers Joseph 🙏🏻, thanks for stopping by once again, when is you next video landing? ✌🏻
Hello,
Another interesting video, if you could I would like to see how you set up the tarp, in detail.
It keeps all the frost off the swag I assume.
Thanks for sharing your campsite.
cheers, thanks for the feedback and for sure, I'll try and get a video together as soon as I can ✌🏻
Thanks 😊
Nice one Chris. What a great atmospheric morning?
Thanks Alex, the icy tarp is always an interesting way to start the day, fingers certainly felt it ✌🏻
Very nice my friend 🤠
