Out and About
Австралия
Добавлен 11 апр 2022
G'day and welcome to the channel. Whether it is hiking in a national park, camping in the middle of nowhere or simply wandering around the city, I love getting out and about and taking in the world. I also like playing around with video editing, so I decided to combine the two and create a bunch of video journals of some of my trips when I am out and about, I hope you enjoy.
Canberra v Sydney? Which City Hosts the BEST Light Show?
Canberra has the Enlighten festival, Sydney has Vivid. The buildings throughout the city are lit up with laser shows, telling stories and entertaining. Millions of people go to watch, but which festival is the Best?

Solo Swag Camp, skipping stones on a Stunning Beach in Aussie Bush
Hello Great video Thank you for sharing 🤍
thank you, appreciate you taking a minute to reach out with some feedback ✌🏻
It really is all quite marvelous!!
for sure, thousands of people turn up to check it out in both cities. Thanks for watching ✌🏻
In my humble opinion...I'd have to give it to the Opera House. Sydney has my vote. What a great collection of joy.
yeah, hard to beat. It's almost like the guys you designed it knew that in 50 years time laser shows would be a thing 😛 Thanks for watching once again ✌🏻
Another great walk! And a very decent view from the rock, too!
Glad you enjoyed it. Heading back home over the next couple of days so will check out your uploads when I am back to the cold ✌🏻
@@outandabout_oz safe travels home. Don’t wear shorts, it’s freezing in Aus 😂
I'd be scared as hell to swim in lakes and rivers in Australia 😂
Ha ha ha, yeah there are some scary things lurking in the water but not down south so much. No way I'd swim in the Northern Territory rivers that's for sure. Thanks for watching and taking a minute to reach out, appreciate it ✌🏻
Great video. The vegetation is very unique, I dig those trees that are the peeling bark! I enjoy when someone is hiking ahead so I dont get hit with the spiders. Nice view at the end! Those are some epic rocks!
Cheers, thanks for watching and glad you're enjoying the content. Yeah, I have cleaned up a lot of spider webs while looking around me over the days!
Great watching you mate!enjoyed your simplicity
Thanks mate, appreciate it. As an aside, I first saw your comment as we were sailing out of Greece, so it was pretty cool coincidence I had been wandering around Greece all day ✌🏻
Sound like a much larger adventure, Happy travels and enjoy the Beaty of a European summer
Such a cool trail! The square rock looks kinda artificial but nice. Great upload
Thanks for watching once again and yeah the rock is pretty cool...I did mask it out I. The thumbnail to make it stand out, but it is very unique all the same ✌🏻
In my humble opinion, this was the best walk you've taken us on yet! Educational information was outstanding. Countryside just stunning. To see your country trying to preserve its landsides rather than just paying lip service as ours does is absolutely heartwarming. It is so much fun for me to hear you speak of the seasonal changes that are opposite of where I live, makes me smile every time. You have the best channel of the 130+ utube channels I subscribe to. Thank you so much, I mean it, thank you!
wow, thank you 🙏🏼 Yeah, we do a lot to look after our bush and I know other do more and others do less. It is such a big part of my life so I love knowing people are making the effort for everyone. As for seasonal changes, I am in Europe at the moment, 34C in Greece and missing the -10C back home. Feels very weird! Thanks again for the lovely comments, appreciate you ✌🏻
What a treat it would be to see a kangaroo in the wild...neat!! Pretty fantastic views from up there!
Kangaroos are cool and I have several mobs walking distance form my home so I am pretty spoilt, that said though you have Black Bears and they are the coolest things I have ever seen walking around in the wild✌🏻
thanks for stopping by once again 🙂
Awesome Chris ! . I often wondered about local environments like that . I had no idea about that particular phonoma 5:07 . Thanks for an awesome window :)
no worries, thanks for the feedback! Glad I opened up this little window for you ✌🏻
Great hiking adventure Chris. Loved the vegetation and birdlife. Great views on arrival to the cliff lookout. 👀 It is great when someone walks ahead of you and clears the track of spiders, especially those Orbs 🕷️ We are having some icy mornings in Melbourne this week, 2°c but the days get a little warmer, thank goodness 😅 Hope you have a great weekend 😊🤗👍🏽
Thanks Joseph, Canberra had a couple of 'feels like -10C" this week apparently, it's currently 34C as I type sailing out of Athens so I can safely say I am not missing the cold! 2 is pretty cold for Melbourne, rug up! 🙂
Great video! Not a bad place for a fire, it is always great to get out after a long week. I really enjoyed your content!
Thanks mate, appreciate it and glad you like what I throw up from time to time! ✌🏻
As usual, I enjoyed following along. You do the most amazing hikes! Makes me want to head up that way and try a few.
You should, but that's the great thing about Australia, everywhere has great places to find ✌🏻
@@outandabout_oz sure is :)
Another great video, thank you for sharing with us. It has been driving me mad trying to figure it out, please tell me what brand your hat is? looks like the perfect camping hat
Heya, thanks for stopping by and for the great feedback. Glad you enjoy them 🙂 The hat is an Akubra Cattleman. Love it, I have a Riverina and a Leisuretime as well. They are awesome hats, a total Australian icon ✌🏻 akubra.com.au if you want to take a look 🙂
You take wonderful hikes, Chris! Thank you for sharing with us.
My pleasure and thanks again for the support, sorry for the delay in replying...not spending much time at the computer these last few weeks ✌🏻
Sure do enjoy a wonderful hike along a running river...always love the sounds...and the resulting calm and peaceful feelings.
totally, that's what it is all about, sitting quietly and resetting, listening to the water, sipping a coffee-my idea of perfect start to the day 🙂 Thanks for dropping by once again, appreciate it ✌🏻
I do love a nice hike along a river or stream..
totally, very relaxing and very nice way to kick off the day. Thanks for watching ✌🏻
Naked swims, I'm in Loved all the different variety of bird life. Time to throw those boots out Chris. Great walk and loved coming along with you on your hike. Have a great weekend. :hand-purple-blue-peaceface-red-heart-shape:
Thanks Jo Jo, appreciate you. Yep, the boots officially retired after that trip! Hope you're having a great week ✌🏻
Dying for a coffee… $10 bucks later…
ha ha ha, not quite but close. I did buy a coffee in Perth at 4am about 8-9 years ago during the height of their big mining boom and the bloke charged my $9. When I gave hime a quizzical look he simple replied "I am the only coffee shop open". I laughed and paid the bill. Thanks for stopping by and apologies for the delay is responding, I am currently away on holiday so not checking the computer much ✌🏻
@@outandabout_oz no worries, thanks for the reply. Going to check out some of your other vids. 👌
nice little video . some cool new editing techniques . swoosh :)
ha ha ha, yeah, trying something new. Might have overdone it I reckon 😛. Thanks for watching again and for the positive feedback, appreciate it ✌🏻
Incredibly interesting locations you find yourself in. Thank you, and i hope you're truly enjoying your vacation with your bride. Thanks Chris!
Thank you and yep, hard to not enjoy ourselves on this wonderful trip. Still a few weeks to go too 🙂 Thanks for watching once again ✌🏻
Now that sure was a great tour around. Hope to be able to visit Australia some day! Peth was one of those areas I'd like to get to. Very cool indeed!
It's a great city. One where people visit and sometimes never return 😛 Glad you enjoyed and thanks for watching and taking a minute to reach out✌🏻
I’ve never been to Perth, so thankyou for the tour. :)
It's a great city if you get the chance. Only been about 5-6 times and mostly with work so have not been able to get out as much as I'd like to...one day I guess ✌🏻
Really enjoyed that...thanks for the tour 🤓
My pleasure, glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching and taking a moment to leave some feedback, appreciate it ✌🏻
Thanks for this tour of beautiful Perth! I hope your conference goes well! 👍
Cheers mate, thanks for watching once again. Conference was good fun and educational too! ✌🏻
Great little walk around Perth. I have yet to visit Perth. Thank you for taking us along Chris. Enjoy your conference.
short and sweet, wish I had more time to explore...only ever get out that way when I have to work! Thanks for watching Joseph, I saw you've been posting and I'll be sure an check in when I am back home. Have a great week ✌🏻
@@outandabout_oz in your own time Chris. Have a great week, what’s left of it.
Honestly, Australian people are over the welcome to our country, we voted NO to the Voice because we are one people, and we don't recognise previous owners. Never have and never will. It's crown land and after the next election, Pauline will make it all national parks. As a black fellow, I recommend you buy some land. Cheers and get off the woke idoligy trendy kid, gay, beta male crap and grow a pair like every other alpha male in Australia.
Lots of wonderful stuff! Everything...and probably including a kitchen sink! lol Awesome to be prepared for anything!
Ha ha ha, no, no sink but I have seen set ups where they do for sure. Thanks for dropping by, appreciate you taking a minute to leave a comment ✌🏻
Another great one, Chris! I really love your set up too. I love how everything is there in the car, ready to go. It takes me ages to pack everything up and then drag it all out again when I get home. Your setup is perfect! I’m guessing you’re in Europe at the moment; I hope you’re having an amazing time
Yep, amazing is a good word to describe it 🙂 Yep, easy to get going but I still usually have to take everything out when I get home and dry the tarps and clean everything, so the back end is a bit tedious 😛
Well packed and essential items. Well equiped Chris. Walking poles like yourself get in the way of my Camera /GoPro, so I don't really use them. Hope you are getting out over the Long Weekend. Have a great one. Cheers ~ Joseph
Cheers Jo Jo, thanks for dropping back in 🙏
@@outandabout_oz your up early too 😂
Was wondering why don't you have a Side Awning, Not your cup of Tea?
G'day, not really, I just never really needed one. Plus I like the idea of being able to drive if I have to without packing up ✌🏻
Man, do I love this set-up! I'd give anything to have a dedicated rig for camping like this. Fantastic Chris. I hope you're enjoying your vacation! Cheers!
Cheers mate, appreciate the positivity😛 and yeah, trip is going great, tired feet in a good way! Thanks for stopping by again✌🏻
Thank you for the response that got up pretty much of everything i hope you will atleast mention the road conditions in the bush wherever you go in upcoming videos please and what type of camera or the phone do you use to shoot the video just a bit of curiosity. Thank you 🙏
Heya, sorry I did mean to start including that but it slipped my mind. I tend to just start taking without much of a plan but will on my next camp for sure. I use my iPhone 15 pro max for al the filming. Seems to do the trick but is tough in low light. Thanks again for your comments and support ✌🏻
A great setup and video . How convenient just to grab some food and water and go . Takes us about a hour or two to pack our camping and kayak gear . We have the DD hammocks and tarps too . great gear ! the 4x4 meter tarp is awesome to cover our twin hammock setup . if its raining I set up the 3x3 meter tarp as a plough point to cook in
Yep, those tarps are super reliable. I'd love to get a kayak or a canoe at some point to get to different places, that will slow me down for sure but would be well worth it✌🏻
@@outandabout_oz yep you would love it . gets you into some places that people cant even bushwalk too . i havnt been padding in the act yet but i have me eye on quiet a few places to go paddling near you . I am actually hoping i can get down that way next spring or summer to do a stealth camp on Lake Burley Griffin . should make for a good video and a great place to camp
DD tarps are awesome. I always carry mine in my ute as a spare awning or shelter.
For sure, super handy to have for any number of reasons. Thanks for stopping by, appreciate you taking a minute to leave a comment✌🏻
What brand is your airmattress? There are so many on Temu. Cheers
I just had a look and it's sold out and there's not link to the brand. It's pretty good though so far, but yeah lots to wade through!
Nice one Chris - ‘reset’ is such a good word for this sort of thing. Enjoy Europe. We are in the UK now and will be heading over to Provence France next week for a few weeks. Unfortunately the weather in the UK is much like Sydney at the moment but France should be warmer. Nice to get away to the longer days though.
Thanks Alex, funny, we'll have a couple of days in Provence mid June, might bump into you 😛 Enjoy your trip too ✌🏻
All the best for your trip, Chris. Wish I could download our many learnings travelling in and around Rome and northern Italy but part of the fun is making your own way. As I said in a previous comment, you inspired me to take up swag camping and I’m in my late 60s so it’s never too late. Hope the cruise works out well for you and Mrs Chris. Definitely not my thing but then again my better half likes it whereas she just doesn’t do any sort of camping. So, I suppose it’s win-win for both of us.
Totally a win-win. The nice side though is I just love being out doing things regardless of how it is happening. If I am alone I like bush and animals, if I am with the family I like cafes and concerts. Experiences are precious whatever form I reckon. Yes, looking forward to learning how life is in Rome and Italy in general. That will be half the fun, I am practicing how to order un caffe per favore in preparation 🙂 Thanks for checking in once again, stay safe and enjoy your swag while I am bouncing around in apartments✌🏻
@@outandabout_oz Thanks Chris. Hope you get some nice apartments, they tend to be a bit squishy in Rome. Here’s a couple of tips for you: typical Italian breakfast, especially when you’re on the go is an espresso and a brioche at a local ‘bar’ (which is a cafe, not a pub). Taken at the counter; they charge you more for sit down service.
@@ClaudeMorson cheers, good to know about the having to pay more. Yeah, we got the impression the apartments were a bit tight, especially with three of us. Hopefully they will really only be about sleeping 😛 ✌🏻
Beautiful camping area! I haven’t yet purchased a swag, but I’m probably going to go with the 900. I plan to get a cot too, & put both in the bed of my truck for a budget overland camping setup. Have a nice vacation!
good plan, I was looking at options for that too. I have a dual cab so the tray is a bit short so I gave up, but it makes a lot of sense. A mate of mine uses has swag on a cot and swears by it, thinks I am an idiot for sleeping on the ground. He might have a point 😛 I am also looking at getting a 900 swag of some sort too and will try and find the lightest one. I figure I can ditch the foam matress, add an air pad and make it more like a bedroll so I can be a bit mobile with it and not rely on the car. Maybe a spring-summer project ✌🏻
@@outandabout_oz I measured the bed of my truck & I think it should work with the tailgate down. If not, no matter…I’ll just sleep on the cot on the ground!
@@chriscon8463 makes sense, the tailgate on my ute is one of those crappy aluminium ones that folds down 180degrees so wouldn't work....ground works too ✌🏻
I love the look of these swags as an American tho I struggle to see the niche these fits into, as for their weight I’d rather get a Kodiak flex bow or springbar tent as their just a bit more weight than these are right? But idk I still love the ruggedness of them so there’s that.. Are most swags like this waterproof too?
Hi Alexander, thanks for stopping by and taking a minute to reach out, appreciate it. First of all, the niche down here in Australia is really the 4x4 camper. The swag has a history as a bedroll, bit like cowboy camping I guess, and they morphed into what you see in me video. They're getting a bit more popular over your way though, I a seeing a lot of comments from the US asking about them and see a bun ch of videos about them. They are rugged and last for ever. The canvas is very sturdy and totally waterproof. Some swag need to be seasoned first - soaked in water to expand the thread around the stitching and seams, but the one I have comes ready to go. I have never had water get in, but I am also pretty careful and use a trap if I expect rain, but get caught sometimes. They're good in the cold if you zip them up, your body will keep it pretty warm, the benefit of the smallish size, but the down side is you can't stand in them like the zodiac etc. pros and cons I guess with everything. I love swag camping, been how I have camped for 35 years and it is a bit off an 'aussie' sort of thing that I like too. Hope that helps, give it a go if you can borrow one and see maybe 🙂 ✌🏻
@@outandabout_oz thanks brother, that makes sense. It looks awesome for sure! I’ll have to get one some day and find out;) Cheers and thanks for the thorough reply! Have a great weekend.
@@AlexanderHonsVonEber no worries, enjoy your weekend too ✌🏻

I love the way you reset, Chris! Good video. By all means, get away and forget about this stuff for a while. Please, eat some pasta for me while in Italy! Sounds like a potentially awesome time. We'll miss you while you're gone, but we will look forward to your return, and we'll really look forward to some amazing stories. Take care, and all of my best wishes to you, Chris! Cheers, mate! P.S. I've just spent 3 nights in my new 23 Zero 1100 dual swag. It's a great piece of kit. Thank you for exposing me to it. It sure beats the Kodiac Swag I've been using! Cheers!
Thanks mate, glad you're enjoying the new swag. You'll get years out of it. Thanks also for the positive comment and good wishes, always nice to hear people are enjoying my little offering. Can't wait for the Mediterranean food, I love pasta but steer clear of it as a general rule but I am sure I'll pack on a few pounds regardless. Keep smiling, stay safe and yep, be back in a few weeks ✌🏻
Chris, what did you shake over your bedding? Nice dinner Checkout the sunset behind you. Awesome, Italy. Not a fan of Cruises, but enjoy Chris. Nothing like a real espresso coffee maker, Like a true Italian! 🙏🏼 🤠 👍🏼 🌿 ⛺
Heya Jo Jo, yeah cruises aren't everyone's cup of tea and I have never been on one, so be interesting to see how it goes. The sunsets this time of year are always pretty good, shame it was a bit tough out in the wind that really never let up...made the Audi a bit tricky and had to cut a lot of chatter out....probably a good thing 😛 I sprinkle some essential oil around each time I set up. Swags get a bit stuffy when locked away for a few weeks, helps 🙂 Have a great few weeks, I'll be sure to check in on your adventures while I am away ✌🏻
@@outandabout_oz Enjoy your break Chris and no expectations to check out my adventures, enjoy your travels. I will be here when you get back.
