It was a conversation between him and Ivor Cummings in the early days of diet doctor, which turned me onto keto. Love Tim. Am 76. Now into keto -recognizing the dangers of not just sugar but carbs. Trying to up my protein (along with fats). Moving to carnivore. Love Noakes. We need a Canadian Noakes!
well great representatives are Jordan Peterson, his wife, and daughter, Mikhalia.. probably loads of others too.. but they come to mind to this Canadian. Cheers.
I discovered about ten years ago that I perform better with mountain biking if I do not eat beforehand and do not eat during, but wait until done before eating.
How do you cope with leg cramps or muscle cramping on long distance/ over 2 hours on the bike? Just water and pickle juice? Or do you use glycogen while riding ie Gatorade
@@xclent1975 usually that is an electrolyte deficiency, particularly magnesium, potassium and sodium. I simply put some sea salt in my water bottle. Just make sure you're eating your veg and adding salt.
Prof. Tim N.....can you do a full (if it exists sir) on those people with MS or MS / Multiple Scleroses-like disease or challenges who may have reversed their' signs and symptoms? What papers might there be on "remyelination" or at least,...reducing symptoms of dysfunction and depression re: these scenarios?
Do you happen to know anyone who has studied stroke victims who go carnivore and possibly rewire the brain and heal from left or right side arm hip and leg trauma? As well as neurological pain?
Hi "MF"...I suffer from lower body weaknesses/MS-like weakness,....and am also interested in what can be done...long-term for pain/weakness/depression. Let's stay connected.
I often wonder if your parents/grandparents have a history of diabetes that you would do better on a low carb diet? My grandmother was type 1 if I remember correctly (she took insulin shots) and my mother has pre-diebetes, my uncle is also diabetic and I seem to do better on low carb.
Good podcast. Interesting viewpoints. Although Tim saying "only a few top athletes manage on high carb diets" is way out of the park when probably 99.9% of the top runners (all Kenyan/Ugandan/Ethiopian runners) do what they do eating very low fat low protein high carb 70-85% of calories to run 4 min miles for 2 hours...and then he gives an example of someone winning a golf tournament 😆😆 walking around slowly and hitting a ball every so often ..there are admittedly a small number of ultra endurance athletes eating mainly a low carb/keto diet..but smash the carbs in on race day by their own admission ..so even they can't do it and they're promoting this lifestyle . Personally I feel low carb can be an effective tool for appetite/blood sugar regulation for "some" but for athletes they are doing the best in the world on Tim's advice pre-low carb trends
So where does most weekend warriors fall on? You can’t compare them to pro athletes correct? Because those weekend warriors aren’t working as hard as those pro athletes so they are better of not eating so much carbs yeh?
@jacklauren9359 I feel its very variable for the average runner..depending on many factors from age, experience, body weight, goals, frequency and intensity of training etc etc...personal experimentation is needed and often running coaches recommend varying food types and intake to coincide with training days...lower carb on non training days and targeted carbs around workouts on those days. Blanket recommendations really don't cut it but everyone who has something to sell will obviously promote their beliefs . Try a month of one extreme ..then a month of another.. then perhaps a mix and find your personal truth would be my suggestion
Prof Noakes is just amazing. Very enjoyable PC except I didn't appreciate the racist joke at Tim Noakes' heritage at the end by Mr. Chubby here (lol only kidding matey!)
I'm a meat eater but I disagree that no one can survive on a meat free diet. There are many people who do survive but they don't really Live as the regular population.
There are worrying times still ahead unfortunately. The obesity epidemic caused by terrible advice of high carb diets since the seventies could get even worse if we let the the fad of veganism get out of controll
Your comment is very odd. Many health coaches, dieticians, Nurses, etc. give dietary advice and they are not "registered" doctors. (There is always the caveat that is often stated but if not generally understood, that you should consult your physician before implementing advice, esp if on medications) Tim Noakes has a medical degree, a phd and is more than qualified to give dietary advice because he has read and studied the subject of metabolism in depth.

Is there a more wonderful and gracious man than Tim Noakes? (Perhaps Dan?) Lovely, a class act!
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What an amazing education......thank you both so much!!

Peripheral neuropathy, hasn't healed yet,3 yr carb carnivore
great interview guys!!
Tim mentions someone from NZ but I can't pick up the name. Can anyone help?
I think it was Gary Fettke. He is the one that writes about fructose. The other one was Gary Apple that wrote Ravenous
link for part 1?
If you’re vegetarian, what are the alternatives for meat, poultry and/or fish???
And is goat milk as bad as cow milk?
there is not a good alternative. Eggs are ok?
Breast milk!
How much is lowcarb? because ive been doing no carb at all
Some say upto 50g net carbs per day is keto if you're active. 'Low carb' would be upto maybe 150g.
