    The DJI Ocusync Air module has the potential to be a game changing device. It includes an HD camera, provides uplink from the DJI Goggles RE to the quadcopter so you don’t need a radio receiver, provides video downlink from the quadcopter to the goggles so you don’t need a video transmitter. It’s compatible with your existing radio transmitter via the trainer port, at least if you have a FrSky Taranis. And it uplinks with your flight controller to provide an SBUS connection and reads telemetry data. It says this is an OSD connection but for the data we are getting now that is kind of overstating it. At least it provides live voltage from the quadcopter so that you can see that data.

    Definitely use on a fixed wing to really test that advertised range. Although this isn't something I would ever get involved with, it's fascinating to watch you work all this out. Helps me understand other things that this vid really isn't about. Learning a lot. Thx.

    you should get paid from DJI for this work ! Like you I have had mine for about a week. I have been using the goggles every day switching back and forth between Aomway and DJI. Thank you SO SO MUCH ! Honestly if you have both DJI AND" Race" quadcopters. the goggles are perfect ! you could go out flying for the day and combine/mix both platforms. I am now (thanks to your video and hard work) going to move forward with installing DJI module system on a Diatone TYRANT. My only question will it work with Taranis X7S ? The future will be absolutely AMAZING with this new technology ! PLEASE DJI make a "race" quad with your battery technology giving us 30 minute flight times ! the digital module is 1/4 the size of Connex and one half the price, and it also carries the sbus signal ! SO COOL !!

    I have a set on offer and was interested to see how they hook up to the Omnibus and exactly what info is displayed. The DJI term of “OSD” totally threw me....what they should say is “Telemetry UART”. Hopefully the osd will show much more info in future as it’s really disappointing how minimal it is on the current software release, the usual info filled DJI osd for long range navigation would be great. Keep up the great posts and updates as more features are added.

    As I said below, great and helpful video. For a long-range quad you probably need big props, slow motors, big battery and probably minimal GPS to help get back home from the long distance. Price starts climbing up to almost the price of a Mavic and easily the price of a Spark. OcuSync Air is probably a good option for the long-range planes. Like you said not the best for racing. Maybe also good for just better quality video in local quad freestyling with less breakup, where long range is not so important. I need to do a build large enough to carry the extra weight. Looking forward to what else you find out about this kit.

    • @SimRacer101
      @SimRacer101  6 лет назад +1

      I have speced out a 6 inch build in the description which will use iNAV. I found that the build I use here just needs a GPS added and it will be able to do everything I need for testing with iNAV. With more efficient props I think I can get this rig out to 1-2km and that will be a good lesson for building a longer range version. Or at least to know if it will go that far at all. It flew about 5 minutes on a 4S 1300 so a bigger, lower C battery will help it stretch it’s legs a bit.

    Sorry, noob question: On the DJI Goggles RE FAQ's, it says: Supported remote controllers: X9D (FrSky), DEVO 10 (Walkera), T8FG (Futaba), T14SG (Futaba), WTF09sll (WFLY), and AT9S (RadioLink). Does anyone know why the DJI Goggles air system would need to be compatible with your remote controller? After all, the air system is for FPV, not for controlling the aircraft, right?

    • @danielkoehn3209
      @danielkoehn3209 4 года назад

      Xplore RC You can also use it to control your aircraft. You will want to go that route if you are going to fly long distance.

    So the way I understand this is that the ocusynk system is a RX and a VTX in the same time?

    • @danielkoehn3209
      @danielkoehn3209 4 года назад

      Humberto Montalban It can be used as only VTX, or you can use it for RX and VTX.

  • @lasersbee
    @lasersbee 6 лет назад +1

    For long range I'd prefer a Fixed Wing aircraft. To bad you cant get the F4 OSD super imposed over the Ocusync image in the DJI Goggles

    • @SimRacer101
      @SimRacer101  6 лет назад

      That is what I was expecting it to be and kind of disappointed it doesn’t pass that through. The recording is better without it. But I would really like that in the goggles. Telemetry the way it is can pass and display a LOT more data than it does. AND it needs to record that data so I have it after the flight.

  • @beyond_civilization

    I'm trying to set up the DJI ocusync air system with my flying wing. Any suggestions on which compatible flight controller I could use without soldering anything? I have a Taranis x9d plus transmitter as well. Also, if I don't have a power distribution board, where in the receiver would my positive and negative battery cables connect? I've tried plugging them everywhere and I can't even get the air system power light to activate. :-( DJI mentions nothing about needing a power distribution board for that.

    Hi
    I need your help
    I have dji mavic 2 pro with DJI Goggles racing edition (the black one)
    I’m extremely happy with it
    But now I want to buy a fpv drone and use with my
    DJI Goggles racing edition (the black one) and the remote controller which come with mavic 2
    I would like to know how can I do that?
    I see you also have some battery which last a lot for fpv drones and I would like to use those battery.
    I’m not the expert to build it but I can build it if I have to ( I prefer to buy the ready ones if there is some place I can buy ready made ones)
    Please if you can help me with this
    Thanks
    Shervin

    Just watched this several times near the end; the 960p through the goggles is far blurrier than through the Ocusync module. Is that because (and I hope this is true) that goggles recorder is not recording as well as what you actually see (which again hopefully, should be like what the Ocusync is recording on the quad before it hits the VTX). Agreed that there is no breakup or artefacts as in analogue, but a Clearview system can achieve much of that; what I want is a truly better picture detail and I'm not yet convinced that it's that much better than the best analogue systems. Really want to buy this system for our model race car tracks to let those new to FPV experience the best picture possible (and we don't care about latency too much because we drive at 25mph tops). That said , I have a Connex system gathering dust because the camera can't do changes in light better than a $15 dollar camera...this is a big improvement; not to mention the comfort and build quality of the DJI goggles...definitely the best of the box style. Your thoughts on the blurry picture at 960 at the end of your video?

    • @SimRacer101
      @SimRacer101  6 лет назад

      I need to update all the firmware and test it again. There have been several updates. But I think the 720 looks better than the 960.

    • @SimRacer101
      @SimRacer101  6 лет назад

      For the OcuSync module you have to use the DJI Racing Edition Goggles. It’s the pauses that get me the most. In the open they were not a big deal, they were short, but racing down low they are an issue. If you saw the release video they did when these were announced, for that type of racing they are great. But not ready for MultiGP.

    • @SimRacer101
      @SimRacer101  6 лет назад

      I'm hoping with a few software updates they make it soother. There are just things you can do in Rate Mode with a real flight controller that you just can't do with a DJI drone. It may turn out that planes and wings are the real winners for this. Time will tell.

      If the past is any indication we are about to see a new DJI Race Quad ! Giving us the 7km (advertised) range and 30 min flight times. not something you would crash doing inverted spins but something you might do high speed runs up a mountain or down the beach. DJI will NOT give up a market share.

    Is it necessary to keep the training cable connected to the control and the googles ? Thank you

      @SimRacer101  6 лет назад +1

      If you are using the goggles to transmit the control signals to the quad then yes you have to keep it connected.

    Is there a way to hook it up to BF OSD or a Vector OSD instead of using the DJI one?

    Will this work with the original dji goggles?

    • @Up2NoGoodMate
      @Up2NoGoodMate 6 лет назад

      DJI says no. I have seen on youtube one italian geezer connected it to original white goggles, but there was no video signal

      When they first came out DJI reported that it would work with the original goggles. You just have no analog signal receiver.

    Great video. Quick question, what batteries do you recommend for a long range quad with the air module installed? Higher than 4s?

    • @SimRacer101
      @SimRacer101  6 лет назад +1

      It depends on the components. And what you call long range. Several km and 5 inch on a big 4s will work. Past that you need bigger props and quite possibly a higher S battery to go with it.

    • @SimRacer101

      I have several mid range builds in progress I will be going over eventually.

    • @colinlholmes
      @colinlholmes 6 лет назад

      DroneRacer101 that makes sense. My build will be the tbs long range endurance motor with low kv and 7" props. I may go with a 5s and see house I go.

    • @SimRacer101
      @SimRacer101  6 лет назад

      per the website those are supposed to be used with a 4s on 7 inch props

      Yeah and 6s for 6", I wonder where the 5s fits into this picture.

    Antennas were crossed; coax was bent :.( hahaha, probably does't make a difference. Just DJI trying to cover themselves

    • @SimRacer101
      @SimRacer101  6 лет назад

      yea, we bend antenna all the time so I think that part was probably ok. If they said you could bend it I can see some people kinking it 90 degrees. Mounting antenna is probably the worst part of it. I see thingiverse in a lot of people’s future.

      Yea, I don’t think this is going to be popular for Betaflight racers. That is why I am exploring it with iNav.

  • @DumbThumbsFPV

    These are a gimmick seriously! The latency alone is horrible and the lack of diversity, no fan,no extra batteries, heavy, LHCP analog antenna, heavy module, proprietary antenna (we break antennas as you know) and the 1000 gram weight of the goggles themselves! do not make these racing anything... If you flew your machine like most do around trees when freestyle then the latency would show up big time anything over 10mph.. I think these would be great for high flying wings but not for "racing" Also the FOV is way too big for shooting holes in trees or gates. I think you know EXACTLY what I'm talking about ;) put this on your HGLRC LOL

    • @SimRacer101
      @SimRacer101  6 лет назад +1

      Oh I agree that was pretty much my conclusion. For now they are not gate racing. That is why I am building a long range rig for these. My GPS just arrived. Now I need time to get it mounted and install iNaV.

    • @DumbThumbsFPV
      @DumbThumbsFPV 6 лет назад

      Maybe their next version. There are alot of goggles coming in 2018 and I think a couple of companies are really going to challenge fatshark with price and performance. I think Fatshark will also surprise us this coming year as well as connex.... DJI doesn't understand racing as shown with "snail propulsion system" /rolleyes... next thing you know they will release the turtle FC and Sloth 5 inch frame designs... to go with their laggy helmet..

    • @SimRacer101
      @SimRacer101  6 лет назад

      I think they will release a Phantom R to go with these. But if you look at the release video for these you can see what they are calling racing. It's race to that point and back. These are fine for that. But I don't plan on racing them through gates. I do think I will use them a lot this winter though. The flip up design will be really convenient for flying outside with snow on the ground. I can wear my glasses and just flip them up to land LOS.
