Hey! Much love from Ukraine! I love your vids. I do remember playing this game in my youth and it wasn’t perfect, but I did love the immersive sim feeling that this game gave me. And by the way, Ukrainian game dev community is very small so many people who worked on this game went to GSC, and later to Frogware and 4A. And the Xray engine this game runs at is the base for the stalker games.

The fact this game uses the Xray Engine makes so much sense!

Regarding the similarity to STALKER, apparently the development of that game had a lot of internal issues, with there being a lot of conflict over the direction of the game and the lack of progress being made.
At least two factions involved split off to form new companies: one being responsible for this game and its sequel and the other purchasing the rights to another popular Russian language post apocalyptic science fiction novel (STALKER is based very loosely on the Soviet film of the same name*, which in turn is an adaptation of the book Roadside Picnic) and going on to develop Metro 2033 and the subsequent games in the series.
*Stalker is a film where several middle aged men walk in circles in a field to reach a building that's only a few yards away. The film is mostly about them bickering with one another and discussing philosophy and, whilst there are anomalies that make the environment hostile and almost impossible to navigate without a guide, there are no monsters, mutants or competing factions acting within the zone attempting to travel to the epicenter and claim their deepest desires. It's a stunning piece of cinema with some very interesting philosophical musings on the nature of human desire and the contrast between this lush, verdant space where the imagination can be manifested into reality and the poverty and authoritarianism of the world outside the zone. Don't go into it expecting a horror film and be prepared for the glacial pacing and you will probably have a really stimulating time with the film .

I would love to play this, honestly.. Feels like the kind of game I'd immerse myself into and just enjoy inspite of it's slav jank qualities.. But all of it's technical issues in general really make me want to steer away and instead go play something else.
I wonder if perhaps there's an active community for this game and if maybe they've made patches and fixes. It'd have been great if this was on Steam..
(Btw I'm happy to have found Your channel. Great videos in it! :) )

There's some patches around but none of them fixed the saving bug. Although I am curious if the bug has something to do with the game being installed onto my D drive instead of my C drive?
I do recommend the game but seeing as the save bug doesn't show up for like five hours. It can be very infuriated

Just now getting to watch this..
The saves don't work after a few hours? Sure, yeah, no biggie. I don't completley suck at games and rely on my saves, nah
44:00 Mr Crazy eyes dreams of being a dancer
"Individuality is what makes us human or whatever the fuxk" lmao
"They should go to college instead" oh no
I admit when this started I had never heard of this game at all and, based in the way it was described in the first part, I was confused as to why this is a Suffering Through. It got clearer. It's pretty funny. I don't know why the screaming guy was so funny lol, like the timing I guess. I like that the factions affect your game play at the start more, rather than being a "pick a color" sort of choice. Watching the scenes actually play out ends up being really entertaining. I couldn't get past those crashes and save issues though. I mean the crashes and replays were hurting my heart just watching, I can't imagine actually doing it. You're a trooper. I don't know if it's just because I'm watching and not playing but the whole end seems like a different game. I can't tell which end was the filler tbh.
Also, dude, your channel is so under appreciated. We can always count on you to be fair but blunt about these games. Love the work you put out!
