Hi April, I don’t know which video you gave us your secret hack/hint, but it was the one where you suggested the use of invisible thread in the bobbin when binding a quilt. Well, I tried it even though I didn’t think it would work in my sewing machines, but alas, it worked perfectly and shows no thread on the reverse side of my quilt. I love this trick since I’ve struggled with this problem for ever. Thank you for suggesting we do this. Myrlin

I am not a "quilter" but i make lots of "blankets and throws my way and everyone enjoys getting them..thanks for the tutorials for quick, Inexpensive ways to make them!
Just found this video, timing is everything they say and I just started a "Square in a Square" quilt👍 I'm using a Charm pack and a Jelly Roll both from my stash. Just an idea that some may not have thought of... A Layer Cake can be cut into 4 sets of 5" squares. This comes in handy for those patterns that call for 4 Charm packs, one of my favorite patterns is a Lattice Quilt and it calls for 4 Charm Packs, it's usually cheaper to buy a Layer Cake unless you hit a great sale.
Your quilts are great!!! I have always loved these quilts, & I want to make one! Lord know I gave plenty of charm packs & jelly rolls!! Maybe tomorrow is the day!!
Sometimes I think I just buy fabric cause it calls my name ... then I get it home and it is too pretty to cut ... LOL Have fun using yours ... I gotta make myself do it cause I love them so much! Thanks for watching! April
I love your quilts April, your humor and goofiness. I feel like I'm quilting with a close family member! Love your crafting buddies as well. Keep up the lovely work April
Really enjoy your videos. You are my favorite quilting vlogger. Appreciate the "real lifeness" like not knowing how to open the Accuquilt cutter. I finally stuck a sticker on mine so I could open the darn thing! I enjoy when you interact with your help and the short cuts, no need to watch the sewing of seams etc. Keep up the good work!
Well, I just learned how to cut a jellyroll without using the lines on my mat. You always teach us something new without fanfare. I have tons of scrap blocks leftover from cutting yardage for rag quilts. I am thinking I can make bigger blocks from them and use up scraps of batting, like quag, without having the batting go to the edges. Sew them into a scrappy rag quilt. You inspire me! Happy New Year dear April!
All of your quilts are beautiful, and i love the way you explain how to do it, some people go so fast its hard to understand, especially if you are a beginner. Thank You
Well done! Years ago, when rag quilts were so popular, I put a homespun charm square in the middle of a larger square and stitched 1/2" seam around the charm square and snipped the edges. Very quick and really cute after washing. Maybe you'll try this some day. Thanks for all the work you do for us. I really enjoy "spending time with you".
Whoo Hoo! I’ve been trying to catch up on previous videos from you - this one I’ve been looking for! I appreciate all you do, your honesty and quite frankly your humor. This specific patter is going to serve so many purposes!
Bit of a hint with the Accuquilt strip die. There are two lines at 90 degrees to the blades, line the folded edge of the fabric to the one that is closer to the middle. This makes the selvedge edge further in so it cuts cleanly and avoids the dreaded elbow in the middle of your strip.❤
I found this video just in time. I want to make quilts for my grandchildren for Christmas and this looks so quick and easy, I might just have time to finish all six in time! Plus, using up a good bit of my stash, making room for more! Yay! Thank you for this idea, and Love your sense of humor!
Awesome quilt project thank you 😊 Love the cake in cake and your hired help is at least is trying to help lol great to see the pencil light again !! Love to you and Oliver
have you ever done this pattern out of a layer cake? twin up the 10" blocks and cut 2 1/2" off top and bottom then cut 2 1/2" off left and right or vice versa exchange the inside square and sew back together. very little waste, you will need to go back and trim the tails off two sides. Thanks for showing the charm pack version, I have a few that I don't know what to do with and this is a great option
April, just love your channel, I thought I recognized some Wal- Mart precuts in your stash, I have really made some cute quilts from their pre-cuts. I buy fabric everywhere if it is appealing to me and will launder well. Guess you can tell, sewing is my thing. Your quilts are simply darling.
Last February, I found some dogs on surfboards, cute mini license plates, and baseball/bat fabric at my Walmart. My background is in clothing and textiles, so I always wash the fabric before I cut it. I used it to make scrub caps and it was soft and the caps were very cute.
What a cute, entertaining video plus you're a good teacher too! I loved the jellyroll piece with the incompentent help jab. Would you be interested in a collaboration? I have some great ideas.
I just made this quilt. I think the pattern I followed was called square dance. I had a piece of themed fabric that I wanted to use so all of my middles are the same fabric and I used a coordinating jelly roll for the outside. I'd love to see how you decided to quilt these. I'm waiting for my backing fabric to be delivered so I'm trying to think of how to quilt it while I patiently (impatiently) wait. :)
If I'm in a hurry, I always do a loopy meander because I am most comfortable with that. If I have more time I use a shape from the fabric in a meander like a heart. I am going to get to quilting all these tops I'm making some day. And when I do I am going to video it. :-). I also like paisleys and feathers. :-). Thank you for watching. April

Love this quilt idea! Would it make any difference to sew the 5” strip to the square and cut it off the jelly roll strip and sew the second 5” strip and cut it? Instead of cutting individual 5” and 9.25” strips, sew and then cut off the jelly roll strip? Not sure if I am making sense!!! Really love the Christmas quilt-turned out so cute and festive! @@aprilscraftroom, If you already have an Accuquilt and a 2-1/2" strip die, why spend the money on the stripology ruler? It is! It is a Sew Steady Grid Glider. There is a link in the video description or just Google See Steady Grid Glider. 😀. Thank you for watching. April
Could you check - I would have thought the second two strips would be 9" (not 9 1/4"). 5" becomes 4 1/2" and 2 1/2" strips become 2 1/4" = 4 1/2" + 2 1/4" + 2 1/4" = 9"??? Love the quilt tops.
I did measure and I came up with 9 1/4", but I subscribe to fuzzy math. LOL When I redo the math it is 9 1/2", but when I measured I needed 9 1/4". It could be my 1/4" seam isn't really a 1/4" seam. I did accidentally cut 9/ 1/2" strips, but those were too long. Thank you for watching and keeping me in check. 😉 April

Could you check - I would have thought the second two strips would be 9" (not 9 1/4"). 5" becomes 4 1/2" and 2 1/2" strips become 2 1/4" = 4 1/2" + 2 1/4" + 2 1/4" = 9"??? Love the quilt tops.
The 5 would equal 4 3/4

Don't forget, you will use 1/4" each side therefore 4 1/2"?
Yup, I stand corrected.

Seam allowance 1/2 in or 1/4 inch
1/4”. :-)

I forgot to ask you in my previous comment, how much does the weight weigh that you use to hold down your ruler?

Thank You very much, April!!
Wow, lots to unpack in this one; thank you! I have just the jelly roll and charm pack to use for this idea. Pretty Sweet by Debbie Beaves for Robert Kaufman. Such a lovely floral that will serve as my spring sofa throw.
Love it ... I know it will look so pretty!
