How to Make a Springy Pinwheel Block Quilt with a Twist

- Spring is here and I picked up a bright and cheery layer cake by Kanvas called Blue Horizon at my local Sewing and Vacuum Authority Store. I had no idea what I was going to do with it until I ran across this fun pinwheel quilt block pattern that can be found here: www.abrightcorner.com/2014/11/.... This is not your garden variety pinwheel block, it has a twist. I would suggest using non directional prints for this or maybe even solids - think rainbow colors - my favorite. Join me for a tutorial on how to bring this quilt together. And coming soon a tutorial on what I do with the left over 10" squares.

Super cute pattern. The 5” x 10” is an exclusive cut called a Jolly Bar that is by the Fat Quarter Shop. The Fat quarter shop sells their most popular fabric lines in the jolly bars. Included with each jolly bar from the fat quarter shop is a pattern using the jolly bar size. Occasionally a pattern will require two jolly bars which would be equivalent to a layer cake - however the majority of the patterns are designed using just one jolly bar. Some really awesome patterns. I love that fat quarter shop has designed this fabric cut. It is the perfect inexpensive way for a fabric line you just love but just can’t spend a lot of money on. It allows us to get the complete fabric line plus a pattern for under $25. Most likely f the jolly bar patterns just require some background fabric added and a few require some accent or border fabric. 👍. The pinwheels are darling and love the fabric line!

They are votig on that law but it will do away with Standard Time. It will be hard on my body because Daight Savings & my circadian rhythm doesn't get along with it. By Oct I'm exhusted!
Yes ... I think they are voting to remove it here in KY ... I haven't heard if it passed or not....

I made this April, but in center of each pinwheel, I sewed a yellow 2” squares on those
corners to make snowball corners and when blades of pinwheel sewn together, looked like flowers with yellow centers. Super cute quilt.

Your quilt is beautiful. I watched some videos yesterday that showed me how to cut patchwork blocks to make new designs out of those blocks. The Pinwheel was one of them. Yes, your new quilt top does remind me of Spring.
Thank you so much for coming to the quilt show. I was there; but, I did not see you. After I cast my votes, I stayed in the class room most of the time. The trunk Show that Marti Michell and her husband put on was wonderful. I bought my t-shirt in blue.
Rowan County was called "Bloody Round" during the "Martin/Tollver Fued". The Governor (of that time) ended the fued when he had the Tolliver gang shot to death near Rail Road Street (now First Street) in Morehead, KY. Over time "Bloody" was dropped and forgotten; however, many natives still call this county "Round" instead of Rowan. All this happened long before I was born. I'm 73 years old.
Wow, such an interesting look back in the history of Rowen,(bloody) Round County.
I'm from Maine, and we have lot's of forgotten history as well. I hope it won't die out. More then often that happens. I wish more people like you, would help us understand the importance of history. Thank you.

Lovely quilt & I like your way of making a jelly bar.. thinking out loud now, in order to make the "secondary" pattern show up just a smidgen more use two shades of white or whatever background color you pick. TY April for another quilting adventure!
