Fast Floating 4 Patch Quilt using 5" Charm Squares

- A 4 Patch Quilt is one of the staples of quilts. There are simple 4 patches, Disappearing 4 Patch Quilts and 4 patch quilts made with strips. I am going to share a floating 4 patch quilt where the 4 patches seemingly float like the Hallelujah Mountains of Pandora (an Avatar reference). This is one of the quilts I reference in my 5 tips for faster quilts video - a simple 4 patch block with 2 more strips added to give the illusion in your quilt that the 4 patch blocks are floating.
This quilt can be made using 5" charm squares and 2 1/2" strips or a combination of pre cuts and yardage you cut yourself. No rules - just fun! This quilt pattern is perfect for any occasion. So break out that rotary cutter and let's get to quilting.

April I have the same desk set up that you have. Mine is in teak and I love it!! I have the kangroo and your chair matches mine to a "T"! That proves that like minds think alike and it means that you and I have GREAT taste!! And yes, I would have picked the yellow also, oh excuse me "lello"! I will be making this quilt and I may use it with a panel that has small squares - or 9:1/2 " so that it will all fit together. You are one smark cookie. Started on IBM mainframes, then midranges(AS400 & RISC6000) and for the last 23 years we switched to Windows servers for SAP.

LOL, Not voluntarily(sp?). I've worked actively (and post retirement as a consultant) for the same company (Iron Ore Company of Canada) since 1977. It's DP/IT/IS&T department was an IBM shop (literally an R&D mecca for IBM Canada since early 1960`s) until our company (IOC) was bought out by RioTinto. What a IT culture shock that was!!! That's when SAP on Windows servers came in.
One thing I know, is that mainframe coding skills are still needed; cuz SAP is based on ABAP which is an improved version of COBAL. I've worn so many hats over the years, it's unbelievable - from simple coder to enterprise information architech and back to simply mentoring (the latter is what I like best now).
... On another note, I've sewed forever, but discovered quilting in 2019 and have been on a quilting binge since then. So relaxing and keeps me zen between and during IS&T mandates.

April, I like watching your channel because your brain works like mine. I can never make a pattern as the designer intended--I always have to make it my own. I may follow the directions for assembling the blocks, but I always (always) add something distinctive that makes it uniquely mine. Swap a color, change the placement or have one tiny oddball piece that doesn't seem to fit (it's usually yellow or fuchsia). Thanks for an entertaining channel.

As a second border, at first I wanted the red wood fabric because it's like a red barn, but then you showed that last gray fabric and I like that one too. I loved the way your cat just pops in throughout the video! Lol!

I love the sweat shirt you’re wearing! That place is my favorite place to visit! The whole town is a quilting shop! About 14 stores and counting! It’s only 45 to 60 minutes away from me depending on traffic!

Great changes and it will be so much easier for you. I have my sewing machine (1 of them) facing out our very high upstairs window looking out on our back yard. That way I don't feel closed in!!
