I am so excited to have found your channel! I am 67 years old and have a 67 -year-old stash that I’ve actually found out one through twice. I have been stewing about the fact that I might not be able to finish or use some of the sweet fabrics I got. Now you’ve given me enough good ideas and hopefully more to come so I can use some of it! Thanks again I will be back! Bye the way but noodle is genius!!!
Love the idea for quick quilts. It teaches me how to take my throws bought earlier one step further when I need a quick present for my grandchildren and adult children 😂❤😊
I'm catching up on some of your older video's. This one is when you made a Unicorn quilt for your grand daughter. I love that you show us some of the mishaps that happen,to most of us along the way. Thanks for letting us feel better about our boo boo's. Ur for real girl. Luv Jenny. Oh I have to say your cat, & doggy are the cutest. Give them Hug's, & Kisses for me. Well it's chocolate time now, bye.
What I like & there is a lot....your personality!! Quirky yes you are a hoot! " you are real" Also really like your microphone or whatever auto you are using! Can really hear you great! Keep it up a joy to watch!
Great job! Just ran across your videos tonight so I am binge watching not stalking. lol I wish you had been in my feed when I started quilting. What a great teacher you are. Thanks for posting. Stay safe, stay well.
Hi Dorene ... Thank you so much for your kind words... WOW you really made my day! ... I appreciate your BINGE WATCHING ... and wanted to Thank you so much for watching! April
hahah. you crack me up with your bloopers, so me! lol. Have never seen or used Chenille it, will have to look for that. I do a lot of kids charity quilting. Would be a quick trim. Love this pattern for an easy and quick quilting job. well sorta hahah.
I have never outgrown a quilt. If her baby quilt hadn't disintegrated, my daughter would still be sleeping with that quilt. LOL. I kid you not. Thank you for watching and commenting. April
Absolutely. Can you email me at aprilscraftroom@gmail.com. That way I can send you the picture. And doing everything by hand is so impressive. I wish I had the patience and the talent. April
I love your sense of humour.... I use pool noodles to make a sandwich of all my large quilts. I tape the ends together. One for top, one for batting, one for backing. Slowly wind them as I pin
I didn't think about taping them together. I've seen people join them with plastic pipe if the pool noodle has a hole in the middle. Thank you for sharing. April
You are a Hoot!! And the "quick & dirty" quilt is adorable! Pool noodles are so useful, aren't they? I LOVE what you did with the Chenille-It, the result is beautiful. I've been sewing for some 60-plus years and felt a little sorry for you when you had a little trouble closing the gap where you turned the quilt. So I thought I'd offer a little "quick & dirty" trick that might help you. First, I suggest you make your gap a bit less wide. Roughly half the width you did would still allow you to turn it right side out very easily. Secondly, and this is the neat part, begin sewing around your quilt edge a little differently. Lower your needle at your starting point and rotate the quilt so you can backstitch perpendicularly almost to the the edge with tiny stitches (1.5 works well). Then stitch forward to your starting point, pivot and stitch all around the edge as you normally would. When your reach your stopping point for the gap, repeat what you did at the beginning. Pivot, shorten your stitch length, backstitch perpendicularly to the edge with tiny stitches, then stitch forward to your seamline. Before turning your quilt right side out, give your seamline a really good pressing, and trim away that little length of batting just the width of your seam allowance. Now, once you've got it right side out, put your index fingers one each inside the quilt on each end of the gap and GENTLY pull. If you've done this correctly, the edges of the gap with turn under very neatly and straight all by themselves. Hit them with the iron and your're good to go. (Then go stick your tongue out at Murphy). Hope you like this little trick, I use it all the time for all types of sewing, not just quilts. And I hope I haven't offended you either, I just want to help.
Thank you so much! I am going to be making an envelope quilt for my granddaughter and I am going to use that technique. I'd never heard of that method. Thank you so much for watching my channel and sharing your sewing wisdom with me. April
I made one yesterday, wish I had used pool noodles..... anyway it was 2 yards of fabric each side as more of a throw and not sleeping quilt. My coworker us retiring and loves turtles, she may be getting double knee replacement so I thought yes a lightweight quilt with turtles. My lines were not straight but my husband said they look like waves leave it. He was correct. My coworker knows I am not perfect neither would be the quilt or any other thing I make would be perfect. I call those slight imperfections character. Thank you for posting, now to find some pool noodles for the next one.
Your video popped up on my suggested videos …. I’m so glad it did …. Not only did you make me laugh but it was great to see that other people have sewing issues too ❤️. Thank you for sharing ❤️❤️
I absolutely love this way for quick quilting!! I took a few of my son and daughters flat sheets from bedsheets, and made few beautiful quilts and I also use the flat sheets to make matching extra pillow cases and always a body pillow, which my family calls them leg pillows..lol!! Everyone in my house has there own quilted flat sheet blanket and leg pillow from that sheet!!
I love the panels for quilts. I made one with a Texas panel. Wow Texans love that! I made many baby quilts with panels. I have a longarm and I love to quilt the scene, esp flowers.
I do this all the time with flannel for kid blankets, flannel is so cute now a days that I don't need a panel. puckers rarely matter when doing these quick quilts
Oh, tell me all about the bottom thread nightmare! I hate it, because you will see it only when you are finished and turn the whole thing around. I feel your pain. But it all turned out beautiful at the end....love both of them.👏💖🥰
When I have made envelope quilts I did my sewing with the back of the panel up so that I was confident I was catching all the layers. Blessings from Mary in Wisconsin.
Love this idea using the panel! What a fun quilt. My 2 year old granddaughter is really into Puppy Pals so I am making her a quick and easy quilt using Rail Fence pattern for Fabric Cafe. TFS! Congrats to Dawn!!
I made a 30x40 cuddle soft baby blanket with this method. Glad it wasn’t any bigger! I don’t like sewing with that fabric! I think I lightly sprayed craft glue to secure my batting so it wouldn’t slip. I top-stitched and then quilted large stars. For my first attempt, I was happy with it. My second baby quilt didn’t go as well. The directional backing is sideways not top to bottom- like you mentioned in your video!! Live and learn but my grandson doesn’t care!! Really enjoy your videos. I can relate, scratch my head and laugh at my silly mistakes!!! As always, enjoyed watching your video! Have a great day April!
Yeah that minky that I used was slicker than snot. LOL. And you are so right. We are way harder on ourselves than those who receive our quilts. Thank goodness or I may have only made one quilt. Thank you for watching. April
I appreciate your tip on the puckers. It had stopped me from completing 2 quilts where the tops are MANY YEARS done. I'm going to have to give it a try. Also never made a turned inside out quilt. I have fabric bought for charity or gifts...this is a good idea for it.
Puckers usually just disappear in the wash as long as you didn't wash the fabric before you started piecing with it. The unwashed fabric shrinks and the stitching is no longer too tight. It is like magic. LOL. Thank you for watching and don't let little mistakes slow you down - they just make you a better quilter. I must be like the BEST quilter ever!!! 😁. April
Wow thanks that is great to know!! I just quilted my first quilt and there are puckers everywhere/ feels so sloppy but I’m just moving on because it is for my son who isn’t going to care about my imperfections. I can’t wait to wash it once the binding is completed
Just love this idea. Hate the quilting police and like most of us I am my own policeman lol. I have never seen chenille it here in my local sewing and quilting stores in Brisbane but will certainly hunt for it now. What a great addition to a quilt for a child.
I made a mistake on my first panel quilt; and had the batting on the outside - LOL. But, when I got that straightened out - it was fantastic. Very easy to do; once you learn the trick.
I have done the same thing while making placemats using this same technique. LOL. I just laugh at myself and go on. Thank you for watching and commenting. 😊 April
I do the same but layer batting on bottom first then back then front on top. I can now see where to sew after pinning all together. Before sewing I cut the back and batting even with the front. I also sometimes leave out the batting and use minky or similar fleece back. Then with turning right side out I sew around the design to quilt the two pieces together to hold it's shape. With the 3 layer ones I also quilt around the designs on the front but use more stitches closer together. So there is sewing about 4 to 5 inches apart. Example-- around the rainbow and unicorn for the 2 layer ones, and around each color of the rainbow and all the clouds,ECT. for the batting ones.
Yay - I love it when I learn something new. Glad you did - it is an easy way to make the quilt a little extra special. :-). And hide the fact I didn't bind. LOL April
My mom has 5 grandkids. She made them all quillows. It takes 3 different fabrics. 2 yds each. 1 for front, 1 for back, and 1 for pillow. You won't need a whole yd for pillow, but I guarantee that once you get home you'll change your mind and want the pillow fabric for front/back instead. My mom has made 30+ quillows for our family and friends so far. She is now working on the great-grandkids' quillows. I've gotten 1 so far. The 2nd one is on the table in her sewing room waiting to be finished. When fall comes she'll finish it. She just topstitches the pillow sides straight down following the chalk line she drew. She buys white chalk at dollar stores and it washes out great.
It is fun to play with and adds just a little something special. :-). You can also use it to outline applique' or images in the fabric. Thank you for watching and commenting. April
I was wondering if you used 2 layers different colors of the channel, after washing would you see both colors? I've never used it but I'm going to give it a try. Thanks for your videos!!
If you will have the opening on the side where the selvedge was because it doesn't stretch as much, so it will be easier to close the opening without any puckers.
that is the perfect size to donate to nursing homes, they always need little lap blankets. and they too won't care if your seams are straight or not. but will appreciate the fact that they are homemade.
As a beginner, I love this idea of a smaller quilt... what would you suggest for putting it together space wise, as I’m very limited on space and definitely no space for noodles.. you’re giving me inspiration to try something.. many thanks.. Tess 🇬🇧
You can do it on your kitchen table. Or the floor. I have put another table next to my kitchen table to make the too a little bigger. Hope that helps. 😀 April
I am always afraid the mark might come back if the quilt gets cold. Have you had any experience with that? Is there a certain brand of friction pens or is friction the brand? Thank you for watching. 😀 April
@@aprilscraftroom i use the Frixion pens on the light to medium colored fabrics. They don't come back when cold. I also used the same pens on paper before and it only came back really faded in the freezer. You may not want to use it with dark fabrics as the marks show up as white/gray when ironed/heated up.
I LOVE your videos!! You remind me of one of my good friends. Love your personality. I wanted to ask about your cutting table. Is it a cutting mat on top? If so what size? Or is it a table made with the Grid. Thank you for all that you teach!!
It came from Joann fabric they sell it back where all the batting and threads are in my store I will have to get the measurements and a picture uploaded of it
I love that you show the problems along with the successful parts. So cute and happy!
Awww .. thank you Mary
I appreciate your kind words...
Thanks for watching ...

Thank you for the idea. I'm a new quilter and might use this technique to make a baby shark quilt for my one-year old son.
This is a perfect way to start. He will love it! Thank you for watching.

I love that! 2 of my favorite things. :-). Be a unicorn in a field of horses is one of my favorite sayings.

I was wondering if you used 2 layers different colors of the channel, after washing would you see both colors? I've never used it but I'm going to give it a try. Thanks for your videos!!
you can put them next to each other put not on top of each other
Hope this helps

If you will have the opening on the side where the selvedge was because it doesn't stretch as much, so it will be easier to close the opening without any puckers.
yes -- Excellent point ... I will use this next time ...
CUTE👍🏼😝👏👏👏❤️😀
Thank you for watching.

that is the perfect size to donate to nursing homes, they always need little lap blankets. and they too won't care if your seams are straight or not. but will appreciate the fact that they are homemade.
That is a great idea THANK YOU for the suggestion!

I really like the friction pens. Yeah Mark your items and it irons right off much easier to use
I am always afraid the mark might come back if the quilt gets cold. Have you had any experience with that? Is there a certain brand of friction pens or is friction the brand? Thank you for watching. 😀

@@ayakacrane8569 Thank you.

I always have pucker problems when I use this method, so I usually tie them. Never tried panels before, have to try that.
I love to wash and dry because that seems to take care of my puckering issues. :-)

@@aprilscraftroom I do wash my quilts before I give them away. I will have to try my walking foot. Thanks
I LOVE your videos!! You remind me of one of my good friends. Love your personality. I wanted to ask about your cutting table. Is it a cutting mat on top? If so what size? Or is it a table made with the Grid. Thank you for all that you teach!!
It came from Joann fabric
they sell it back where all the batting and threads are in my store
I will have to get the measurements and a picture uploaded of it
@@aprilscraftroom Great!! Ty so much!
