I live in the giant dust bowl that is Phoenix, so I keep my boarded fabric in filing drawers. I can keep some of the dust off but it's not as pretty to look at as on your shelves. I started using the magazine boards a few years ago and have loved it. Thanks!
Ever since we got all new flooring we actually have less dust than we use to. Before I was like you and had most my fabric in drawers. I do think Phoenix gets more dusty than Havasu though.
I did that at first with boxes and such and started getting way more silverfish bugs. When I swapped to these I stopped getting silverfish bugs. (They eat cardboard)
Hi Tiffany, I found your channel a few months ago. I was wondering if you have a vlog showing how you bolt/fold any fabric less than a yard. If not can you PLEASE make one. Thank you. Hopefully you’ll see this comment.
Thanks Tiffany for the prompt reply. I live in Australia so we purchase our fabric in meters which gives me a little over 3 inches more. Where I live in northern Australia we don't have a lot of fabric stores close by so have to travel quite a distant to purchase my fabric. Thanks again Desley
Tiffany, thank you for doing this! i have been trying and trying to get my fabric to look like this! You just assume these tasks are known! thank you again!
Yes, Tiffany, this is very helpful. I bought the wrong size, will have to order the larger ones! How about different color post-its, then you won't have to write on them, just a thought....
Thanks for sharing and your excellent tips. I bought comic boards but didn’t ever get around to using them. Now to hunt them down! Know there here somewhere ❤️🇦🇺
Awesome thanks. I'm putting together my shelving for my quilt room. This will help me out. I got the some of the comicbook board, going to look at magazine ones, got plastic bags in two sizes. Was thinking about going to JoAnn's and picking up empty bolt boards for backing fabric. Awesome video.
After all that work you have pressed those seams in when you go to use it you have to work twice as hard to get rid of them. I like that they are uniform in size. Going to check my depth and height to see which work better. Thanks for the demo.
very coll. I would add something to clip them shut, like fold a slice of the board over, because when I fool around with fabric it becomes unwrapped and hectic, and something always happens, and suddenly I walk into a mayhem of piled fabric.
I USE POST-IT-NOTES TABS I HAVE RED (1 YARD), GREEN (2 YARDS) BLUE IS FOR 1/2 YARDS THIS WAS I DON'T TO WRITE IT. I ALSO USE DUCK TAPE ON EDGE TO SHOW COLOR
Tiffany Hi Ordered the magazine boards to start. I have watched your video several times and need some clarification. I see that you use the board for at least one yard How many yards do you put on that board? Up to how many yards?I love that You can see your fabric at a glance! I have a lot of fabric so am looking forward to getting my stash under control! Enjoy your channel. 83 and counting! made and make lots of quilts
I put up to 5 yards on them. Anything more than 5 yards I bolt on regular bolts. I just so happen to have quite a few 1 yard cuts I needed to clean up when I made the video. I didn't even think to say how much I put on them 😕
Thanks so much Tiffany for sharing how you fold your fabric. Your shelves look so pretty with all the beautiful colors! I would like to know what you do when you have more than one yard a fabric? Do you put them on bolts? I have a lot of fabric that's larger than a yard. Right now they're just folded on my shelves. Let me know what you do. Thank you so much
I fold up to 5 yards on the magazine boards. After 5 yards I put on a big store bolt. I was just using 1 yard cuts as an example since it's what I needed to clean up.
I currently have all my fabric in clear totes. Its not efficient because i have to stack and unstack quiet a bit. I hope to one day get a sewing room and shelving so i can store them on cards. I do have about 10 bolts of fabric with the larger amounts of fabric. How do you store your loose batting?
I bag up batting that's small and use for stuffing. If it's bigger than 20 inches or more I save them for bags and wall hangings. Mostly I fold it up in piles in the closet.
Yup, I buy a yard and / or what's left on a bolt if it's almost empty. If I really like it, I will buy 5 or more yards to use it as a back fabric. If it's a blender or background, I will buy 3 or 4 yards cause most quilts need that for background. But if it's just to buy to have it, I get 1 yard 😊
Does the ink on the post it ever transfer/bleed onto your fabric? I have only used a pencil because I worry about spoiling my fabric. Am I worrying about nothing? (I’m using the comic size boards.)
I've not had any ink bleed. I live in a dry climate so there is no moisture to even get on the paper. Some are in pencil and some I even wrote in sharpie. So far no issues.
Third try: how do you get personal quilt labels on the back of your quilt. It looks like it has been printed from a computer transfer something??? to the back of the quilt. You posted a finished quilt with the quilts name and yours on its backing.
The quilt tags I do a few different ways. I either make a hanging tag and it's monogrammed or embroidered and or I sew on a tag that is written or embroidered or I do a corner tag that is embroidered and or I actually do the embroidery directly onto the backing fabric before quilting it. I started the direct embroidery on the backing fabric fairly recently since I got the machine. It isn't for every quilt though. But it's something that can't be cut or ripped off so it works. It does get quilted through though. So I won't do it on a quilt that I know I will be heavily quilted. Those get corner tags.
Thanks, ya you probably seen the Strings of Illusion quilt that it accidentally ended up at the top cause I forgot to flip the design lol. But it still came out great.
Could be, just would be weird to get those cuts here in the US. It could be someone from out the US working here and forgets the number to cut at lol 😄
I don't pin or clip. I did pin years ago and the pins kept coming out and or snagging the next fabric when I would pull it out. So I go without and it stays pretty neatly.
Thank you so much. I love your personality. Good info.

I must try this, my fabric just all over.. thanks!
I’ve got the boards so my daughter is going to help me tidy my room thank you ❤
Wonderful!
I cut up large cereal boxes, using the front and back panels. Works great.
I did that at first with boxes and such and started getting way more silverfish bugs. When I swapped to these I stopped getting silverfish bugs. (They eat cardboard)

I'll try next time I am organizing in the room
Very practical. Thanks, Tiffany. Your friend from New Mexico, Carla 🎶 💖 💐
Thanks for watching Carla 👋

Thanks so much for this information!🥰
You make everything fun to do , make me smile, thanks for sharing ,
I'm so glad!
I ordered mine from Amazon today! Thanks
Very nice, love your way of doing.
Tiffany, thank you for doing this! i have been trying and trying to get my fabric to look like this! You just assume these tasks are known! thank you again!
Wonderful! You are soooo organized. Love ya TIFF❤️❤️❤️
(Jayne) I started using magazine boards after ur recommendations...they are wonderful and cheap. Thanks
Yes they are!
Shelves are so pretty and colorful!
I use the comic boards it was amazing after I did all my fabric I was able get more on my shelves after pressing and fold on the boards
It does clean up space and allows ya to see what's there.
I bought comic boards and watching this video helps me to get started with the project. Thank you. 🥰🥰🥰. And I love your shirt. ❤️
Looks great
Thank you! I will have to do this.
Tiffany, you are brilliant! 🎉
Yes, Tiffany, this is very helpful. I bought the wrong size, will have to order the larger ones! How about different color post-its, then you won't have to write on them, just a thought....
I end up forgetting what color was for what amount. I started writing it about 4 years ago and it's been better.
Great video. You are funny! Love it
Can’t wait to order comic board and magazine board. You are a genius. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing and your excellent tips. I bought comic boards but didn’t ever get around to using them. Now to hunt them down! Know there here somewhere ❤️🇦🇺
It's gonna take me a long time to do that, but it will be so worth it!!!!!!
Took me a long time too. But seeing all that I have is definitely worth it.
Thank you for showing this! I have tried and tried and gave up. Back on my list of things to do!

That's great 👍 hopefully they give ya empty bolts some places won't for some weird reason.
What a great idea. You have so many ideas I have gone to writing in my notebook
Great video, thank you! I’ve always wondered how to use the boards
Awesome video
Great news
A good idea 😊

The folds come out pretty good, it's the wrinkles in the fabric that annoy me lol 😆
I did learn something ❤
very coll. I would add something to clip them shut, like fold a slice of the board over, because when I fool around with fabric it becomes unwrapped and hectic, and something always happens, and suddenly I walk into a mayhem of piled fabric.
I put them on the shelf fold to fold so it's easier to pull out.

I just fold mine and stack it. I enjoy going thru my piles as I look for my next quilt. Too lazy to go thru all that, I would rather sew.😊
Lol 😆 I'd rather sew too. But as I buy I bolt it up. I enjoy seeing what I have on the shelves 😊
@@TiffanysQuiltingLife good plan, I just stack them on the shelf.
How do you store larger pieces of fabric? I have been ruler folding. Does the comic boards work better?
I store up to 5 yards on the boards. Anything beyond is on a regular bolt.
I currently have all my fabric in clear totes. Its not efficient because i have to stack and unstack quiet a bit. I hope to one day get a sewing room and shelving so i can store them on cards. I do have about 10 bolts of fabric with the larger amounts of fabric. How do you store your loose batting?

Hi Tiffany just want to know do you always buy a yard of fabric if you dont have a certain type of quilt in mind when purchasing fabric
Acid free is important
Indeed it is. Gives the fabric room to breathe and don't damage it if folded up on it for a long time
Does the ink on the post it ever transfer/bleed onto your fabric? I have only used a pencil because I worry about spoiling my fabric. Am I worrying about nothing? (I’m using the comic size boards.)
I've not had any ink bleed. I live in a dry climate so there is no moisture to even get on the paper. Some are in pencil and some I even wrote in sharpie. So far no issues.
Where was the Iron Man! 😊
He was watching a movie 😄
How do you store the less than a yard fabric😀
Less than a yard gets neatly folded into dresser units I have 😊

@@TiffanysQuiltingLife I think it was probably on a 108 that I saw it embroidered on. It was on the upper half of the backing. It was really nice.
Thanks, ya you probably seen the Strings of Illusion quilt that it accidentally ended up at the top cause I forgot to flip the design lol. But it still came out great.
I dont have enough fabric to do that or shelves yet.
I think that the fabric that has been cut at 1 yard and a couple of inches may be cut at a meter
Could be, just would be weird to get those cuts here in the US. It could be someone from out the US working here and forgets the number to cut at lol 😄
Do you worry about dust buildup on your fabric
Not really, but then I vacuum it when needed.
Do you pin or clip the end? Does it stay neat when put in a shelf?
I don't pin or clip. I did pin years ago and the pins kept coming out and or snagging the next fabric when I would pull it out. So I go without and it stays pretty neatly.
Thanks Tiffany for your reply
