IMO - NCAA needs to put a "Salary Cap" on NIL, quickly. Money is getting out of hand and skewing the College purpose/experience. Also makes it harder for a fan to get behind a "Team" each year when there is little loyalty/continuity right now. GBR!
Two other coveted football players that went the MLB route were Monte Harrison, Carl Crawford and Khiry Cooper. Crawford would’ve been an excellent option QB . Really outstanding. Although he signed a letter of intent with Nebraska he chose baseball.
IU coach Cignetti brought over 18 players from James Madison that knew his system and were really good . This years James Madison team is in the quarterfinals shows you the squad he had. When you go into the portal and know what you’re getting you will be successful. NIL may not be that big a factor. Whatever you can’t deny Cignetti’s coaching ability. Let’s see if he can recruit at Indiana …
Hey guys, I enjoy listening to your podcast daily, thanks. Please don’t take this the wrong way. I’m surprised that you rarely mention anything on our Women’s Volleyball team, particularly given that they are in the Final Four, and hopefully another national title. They are clearly our best team at Nebraska, really rock stars in their sport. I only wish John Cook could coach football - he is clearly one of the best coaches in college athletics! Maybe you guys could give our girls some love (once in a while) especially considering the Volleyball final four starts today?! No offense, please, it’s just they are our best team. Our football team is still mediocre - I’m hoping of course this changes, but it’s true.
Seriously - you guys are freaking out over NIL and upgrading talent, especially on the OL. They have a plethora of young talent and it should be viewed as a good thing they are not desperate to pursue the OL portal. Fact is guys who are 2-3 years in the program have to contribute. Look back their first two OL classes.....upgrade in talent. The older players - with mental blocks who performed poorly need to go. I prefer the younger guys with more upside over returning average to below average talent with an expectation they will get better. Most of the mistakes or plays that weren't made this past year costing NE the game were made by older, experienced players.
@@obeyreplay649 You missed the point. The young guns in waiting are an upgrade. If the staff didn't feel that way - they'd be pursuing the portal for OL more aggressively IMO. Guttola, Sledge, Truma, Xavier, Davidson, Brix, Pile, JM, Knutson - a bunch of guys. Play now or they transfer. How many in the portal are an upgrade to the names above? I don't know. Locked on doesn't know. You don't know. I'll trust the staff.
@@gregsmidt9075 the young players may be an upgrade but in todays day and age of college football if you’re not having a lot of success players look to go elsewhere and it becomes more challenging to continue to bring high profile recruits in. Winning now is important to the future success of being able to continue to develop, build trust and build culture within the younger players. And let’s be honest, although 6-6 is a step forward and we should be happy to finally be in a bowl game, this season didn’t feel like a huge success. It felt like a lot of the same issues and finding a way to lose games to teams that are less talented on paper than you. Games that we controlled but found a way to give it to them. It felt like another wasted season that had more potential. As we had the potential to be 8-4 against the schedule we played. Winning fixes everything. And yes there’s some promise in the young guys but we can’t sit around and wait for them to develop and lead the team. We need talented veteran players from the portal who can come in and step into a leading role right away. Guys that have a winning mindset and can rub that off onto the younger players. Because if you have a hunch of younger players being developed by leaders who keep losing, at some point those younger players either leave, or become the leaders that only know how to lose close games.
My thoughts exactly. God bless the seniors but they are, more often than not, the ones making the critical, mental, mistakes. Speaking of young talent on the offensive line, Brock Knutsen (sp?) from Scottsbluff, Is one to watch. Saw him play in high school and he has all of the physical tools to be good. Plus he's got a mile wide mean streak.
Did you happen to hear what the teams OC said about the Matter? When asked his thoughts on the young guys he literally paused then simply said “we need to bring guys in”.
I was thinking about something today. Now that college football is a money game. At least until they have some sort of regulation that makes things equal. Does that diminish winning a championship? Teams can simply outspend other teams on talent at this point. I’m not sure how much respect I’m gonna have for an Oregon program that wins the national championship simply because they have the largest bank role. It feels different than when coaches and programs and players won because they believed in each other and the program. I think any championship won during the NIL area is a diminished victory compared to those won prior. I don’t think championships mean that much going forward. You can buy one.
As a 60 year old, I'm officially out of the running for contributing a percentage of my $50,000 a year earnings for some kid to get the most money he might receive to stay uncommitted to my emotional interest. I'll actually look for opportunities to not contribute to this current system. It stuck to let be committed to my university ... but the world's system has moved on from what seems fair and right to my minds eye. Our Huskers won't fair well in the system and college football is now pretty much dead to me like pro baseball did to me back in the 80-90's with all the "work stoppage".
I really wish there was more clarity on what 1890 does for the NIL stuff, because these little youtube videos they do are soo boring and the clothing is just pitiful. I'm sure they are doing things behind the scenes, but man there doesn't feel like there is any momentum. Maybe that's how it's designed though.
Laughable to believe you can’t buy a playoff team when Texas exists. The correlation between this new CFB landscape and Texas’ sudden rise from being a joke is not a coincidence

Love when these are out early! Great way to start the day when the radio shows aren't hitting.
Are you guys gonna do a draft pick over/under show? Could be interesting!!

I wish they would have settled on a 115 limit 😢
Nebraska has the best fans in the game. They deserve a dominant team to get behind.

The show is about Footbal😅l
Nebraska has the money but you can’t be paying coaches buyouts.

5-7 6-6 but yeah everything is great no need for an upgrade 🙄

Many of these players in the portal were forced there. By there programs that didn't want them anymore.

Indiana bought a playoff team
Brought a playoff team because of where the coach came from. More then money involved alot more
@allensaunders449 but he wasn't recruiting and building culture. He bought a playoffs literally for iu
Lmao
Our head coach sucks. He's a snakeoil salesman. Never give money to those types.
You’re full of oil ….
You can't buy a NIL football team? Let's take a look at Indiana. Also, Indiana bought James Madison players and are in the playoffs. Questions?
