Hard to watch Rude like this. He was clearly coming up on the end...so bloated here reminiscent of an Elvis in his worst moments in 1977. He wanted to make a comeback as an active wrestler so the story goes...if true he simply pushed himself too far in his training. Hard to believe he's only 40 here, hard to believe he only had a couple months left, and hard to believe it's been close to 20 years he's been gone. He was one of my favorites, who was legit tough and so good at being the man you loved to hate. RIP.

This was at Target Center. When they faced the ring all that was behind them was empty seats. I snuck up there and sat about 10 rows from Rick for a half hour, just soaking in the ambiance that was Rude.
There was a comment made on here earlier that Rick rude was running on fumes. I sadly agree because I have a feeling that part of the problem here is that he was denied a return to the ring. If you live and breathe this sport known as professional wrestling, and you were stuck behind the commentators desk, if you feel that your return to the ring won't happen, it would shatter your soul. I see a true ring great with great heartache knowing that he won't be able to return to the ring. Of course, here, he is contributing in some sort of way but it's not the way that he wants. He entertained so, so many fans and he was one of the greatest heels that ever stepped in the ring. Of course there is the possibility that he was also facing health troubles whether it was because of emotional heartache causing his health issues or because of overtraining and other reasons. Perhaps his health issues went beyond his heartache. A salute to one of the greatest entertainers of the Ring.

It’s from water retention. Could be from a bulking steroid yes, but could be other health issues. Everyone wants yo go straight to steroids first when pills and coke and alcohol are a everyday formula for a lot of wrestlers. Honestly the amount of pills these guys took is mind boggling. Crazy a larger percentage of wrestlers have died than pro bodybuilders who take massive amounts of steroids and insulin and hgh.

Best example of it is that his best friend Curt Hennig never saw his death coming and was absolutely devastated by it, so who knows what happened. I've heard rumors Rude got huge and in incredible shape before he passed as he was gearing up for an in ring comeback with WWF. Here he looks bloated and huge muscle wise, you can see how wide he is and how big his shoulders and arms look. I'm sure he was on some sort of muscle building drugs and working out a lot, as evident here. But wow his face looks so bloated here.

He used gear before and never looked bloaty, his diet and possibly a combo of using gear that caused more water retention and not training as effective. Wasn't he in a accident and using a lot of pain killers before he died?
How and when was he supposed to comeback to WWF? He was under WCW contract at the time of his death. No way Eric would have let him out or Vince would have brought him back after what he did appearing on NITRO and RAW on same night
