    I worked a morning show at WABC-TV in NYC in the late 70s (The Stanley Siegal Show). It featured one morning a bunch of wrestlers who had fought the night before in Madison Square Garden. The featured match was Bruno against Baron Von Rasche. Von Rasche didn't come to the show because he was embarrassed (he had lost).
    So here we have Bruno Sammartino, Ken Patera, Freddie Blassie & a few other wrestlers sitting on the stage to discuss the matches, their careers & the future of wrestling.
    But the education came during the commercial break when all these "enemies" were discussing their families, Patera was talking to Bruno about how expensive roller skates were for his kids. And naive me standing there wondering -- what's going on?
    Freddie Blassie laughing about the days when he was a wrestler decades before Bruno & Ken. Then seeing them shaking hands & saying they would meet up for dinner at The Ginger Man. The others were also some good guys & bad guys standing around talking like they were at a garden party.
    Then the cameras went on. Blassie went back to his pencil neck geek routine & had to be restrained by security. It was a blast. I got all their autographs anyway. They were all gentlemen.
    Patera and I talked about the strongest men in the Olympics and in the early days -- he was surprised that I knew Paul Anderson & Louis Cyr (one of the strongest men who ever lived). We got on fairly well that morning because he found someone he could talk to & didn't expect.
    At the time, Bruno was also considered one of the strongest men -- he even competed during the era of Arnold Schwarzenegger in strong man events (Ivan Putski as well -- came in 8 out 10 competitors) & there are pictures of them together. Wrestling may have been performed -- but the strength was always real.

    • @soitsanightmare
      @soitsanightmare 3 месяца назад

      Strongman wasn't around during Brunos Era. Arnold? Arnold was a bodybuilder in the 70s.....what the fuck are u fantasizing about?

    • @lastrada52
      @lastrada52 3 месяца назад

      @@soitsanightmare- You take everything literally like this? In this world of BS. Yes, they were together at such an event there are pictures of them together. Was it the "actual" strong man event? No. What do you think, it has to be an actual event to be called that?
      They call John L. Sullivan the first heavyweight champion -- but he was a bare-knuckle fighter. But, you have to start somewhere, don't you?
      What they attended was probably the infancy of the Strong Man event before it got organized. So, there's your definition. Happy? Now go to take the garbage out & mow the lawn.
      Do you think men like Bruno & Arnold couldn't attend these events, make appearances, and endorse them?
      I may be capable of fantasies but you're not even in this world.

    6'11" lol. Big John Studd is standing next to NFL player Bill Fralic (6'5") at WM2 doing a promo and they're both roughly the same height. BJS was either same height as Hogan (6'5") or maybe an inch taller at the most. He's no more than 6'6" at his tallest... and remember that Andre was 6'10", not the BS 7'5" that WWF kept trying to sell.

      I think I read an article one time that the worst offenders of height inflation are people who are just under the next closest full foot in height.
      So people who are 5'11" are definitely going to inflate that to 6' tall. People who are a little under 7' tall (6'10") are going to inflate it to try and hit that magical 7 foot mark.
      Of all the people in the world who claimed to be 7 feet tall or taller, I think only 10% were actually true. The rest were living a lie. @@christopherwood2290

    Ok, so please help me if i missed something ? Patera supposedly slammed Andre during their Haircut angle ? Which occurred around 84 ?? So... i could never find any info on Patera slamming Andre. (Video, or recollection of others in the business) Patera certainly can't believe he was the first person as he stated ? While i believe he was more than capable of a true full slam against Andre, i just have never seen proof. JB

    I've heard other wrestlers say that even though Studd respected Andre, Andre didn't like Studd because John would step other the top rope when entering the ring and Andre thought that was "his thing". If so, very selfish and foolish on Andre's part. Better matches if the fans think Andre's opponent has a realistic chance of beating him. John had the "true giant" line in his promos and wanted it to look like he was a real threat. Just playing the heel and trying to generate interest.

      Yes it can, not because it makes the bones grow longer since the platelets become fused together by 19 or 20 yrs of age. It actually can mimic the effects of Acromegaly causing the body to continue to get larger in any way, such as hands, feet & chest getting larger, as well as the cranium. If Studd took enough HGH & steroids it's very possible he became approx 2 inches taller & weighed that much more. Which is exactly what happened if you go through '84 to '89. Yeah he got notably bigger, but still couldn't equal the size of Andre. RIP to both men. PEACE!
