From what I have gathered, none of these mid-card guys made any money in the profession while busting their chops for Vince for several years. The top 2-3 guys were raking 95% of the money and everybody else was fighting for the crumbs. Not a way to make a living with all the aggravation, travel and stress on your body taking bumps.
He said he was making up to 5k a week which is 20k a month and 220k a year. I can definitely see wrestling being a tough living especially for wrestlers that weren't popular or even wrestlers with a short run on top or high on the card. Plus he was battling injuries.

Meanwhile Bad News is feuding with Hulk Hogan and WWF World Champion Randy Savage simultaneously while being put over at Wrestlemania IV and eventually being moved into a Wrestlemania feud Roddy Piper and Jake Roberts. The guy was a bonafide player in the WWF, Patera should have been jobbing to him.
Bad News Brown was another classic example of a guy who was lied to by Vince, he was told he was gonna get a world title run, once he realised that wasn't happening he was out of there. The Roddy piper storyline where they refused to job to each other didn't help either. Bruce Pritchard classically spun it by saying when Vince says that he means "maybe you will be champion"

I worked at the McDonalds he threw the rock through the drive through window. I was in back cleaning after close and our shift manager was almost hit by the rock. it broke the window, smashed the cash register, bent the stainless steel table and crack the floor tile. obviously we called the cops and he was tracked down the the Holiday Inn with Mr Saito. the permanently injured a couple cops in their tirade
