    I figured it would be best to start incorporating my CHEAT & RECOVER technique with an exercise the majority of you are already most likely experimenting with. The Barbell Shoulder Press. Once mastered, cheat reps can really help you break through a muscle and strength building plateau, especially if you don't have a workout partner or spotter.

    I think this goes for any kind of exercise. Cheating to the point of no longer working the muscle that you want to target is problematic, as is cheating to the point of causing instability and increasing the risk of injury.
    Lifting with proper technique is important only for the sake of not hurting yourself, but if adjustments must be made to make it work, go ahead.
    At the end of the day, the muscles don't know or experience the same as the mind. As long as it's getting stimulated enough to respond, that's really all that matters.
    Just my opinion. 29 years old, Male, been going to the gym for many years as a teenager/young adult, then had a period off, and now been active again for the last 7 months or so.

  • @JackgarPrime
    @JackgarPrime Год назад +1

    The style of OHP I use is what's sometimes called the "Press 2.0", where it's not quite strict, but it isn't a push-press. You do a hip of hip hinge in order to create some more momentum out of the bottom while still putting most of the work in the shoulders.

    • @ScottHermanFitness
      @ScottHermanFitness  Год назад

      I mean.. if you are using a little momentum.. it’s still a push press haha, that’s not a bad thing though!

    • @JackgarPrime
      @JackgarPrime Год назад +1

      @@ScottHermanFitness I mean I think of a push press as a downward dip, as opposed to a small front hinge where your legs don't move, but yeah, neither one is a strict press.

    Am I the only one who does these sitting down with a slight recline? I have never struggled at all since the back is stabilized which helps the arms and shoulders remain more stabilized during motion.

    • @MikaMikaMika89
      @MikaMikaMika89 Год назад +2

      Same. I had an injury whilst warming up (at friggin 30% 1rm...) of regular OHP and I haven't done them since. I did start doing seated shoulder barbell presses though, and slowly but surely gotten stronger and stronger, up to 90kg now, my old OHP was only ever 60kg. I much prefer the stability, feel like I can focus on my shoulders better.

    • @ScottHermanFitness

    My shoulders just can't cope with barbell presses, have to use dumbbells in a neutral grip

    • @ScottHermanFitness
      @ScottHermanFitness  Год назад +1

      Nothing wrong with that! You could still utilise this.. although with dumbbells you would be better off seated to move more weight. Might be worth working on your shoulder mobility too!

    • @TheKruxed
      @TheKruxed Год назад +1

      @@ScottHermanFitness Yea, I do them seated! I have Big Loz as my program writer so hes pretty on the ball with stuff like that.
      I'm just a bit weird with BB vs neutral grip in general, I have more power that way and in person trainers and remedial specialists have all been weirded out by my arms and legs acting in ways that don't make sense lol.
      I doubt the shoulders can be fixed, the left one especially is like theres a tooth from a cog in there and so at one point its a big old clunk, lots of tendonitis in the long head and waiting for plastic surgery on the chest on that side from seat belt damage in a car crash.
      The right shoulder has issues pulling at elongation if thats a word, so like a chin up position, need to have the palms facing me to not strain it, but then theres no issues with it full stretched with a heavy dumbbell, so I'm never really too sure on whats going on and neither are the people I speak to about it all. Theres been improvements though since the beginning of the year when I started my journey
      Lost 75lbs and gained some decent muscles as a 40 something year old, so its possible for anyone if its possible for this old broken skinny fat dude that could barely walk lol
      Cheers Scott
