People forget to ask "what are you selling". but i have seen several people attempting to explain how you can build muscle in a fasted state, which is very different from preserving muscle in a fasted state
ScottHermanFitness Hey Scott, I feel a bit of a pain near the left scapula, does this mean a possible injury or is it a pull? It happens only when I do pushing movements, I wouldn't mind some education on different injures that one might succumb to during gym, and can the serratus tear? Sorry if it's too much😅 Just saiyin
Mistakes: 1.Under Eating(most important, caloric surplus, 1g of protein per pound of lbm, get enough carbs) 2.Doing too many exercises(2-3 good exercises per body part is enough) 3.Stop Program Hopping 4.Lack of mind muscle connection 5.Poor Training frequency(too often/too little)
I think this video, so far, has been the most beneficial to me. In one of your other videos, I said that I hit a plateau and have been stuck for years. I've been stuck at around 30lbs. with arms since my 20s and I'm in my 30s now. Based on this video, I think it has to do with my eating habits. Money has always been an issue for me and living conditions so I'm limited to what I can buy and have been eating canned food over frozen meat. I'm still looking for a way until I get into my own living space and can utilize my own fridge. Another issue that may be stopping my gains is the lack of mind and muscle connection. When I think back since the first time I picked up weights with my dad is I would just go through the motions. That mind set that as long as I get the weight up, I'm good. I also didn't focus on how many reps and sets were the right amount until late last year. I'm going to work on these 3 things and see if any changes occur within the next 3 months. I can be patient as long as I know that I'm doing things correctly. Thanks for your time.

I'm 74 and have been reading the muscle mags for over 50 years. Scott has distilled all the best knowledge down to a quick and easy to understand 12 minutes. He is quite knowledgeable. Listen to him. The drugged up guys who are pro competitors or wrestlers may have to train more but they're also building "false" muscles. When they go off the steroids, their bodyweight drops a lot and their muscles fade away. There are plenty of RUclips videos of pro wrestlers before and after. Most of you want to build FUNCTIONAL muscles like Special Forces. Not big puffy muscles that limit your mobility and flexibility.
Mr Herman.. you are truly a God to me. Thank you for giving me a role model to aspire to one day. Being someone who grew up short and skinny while constantly being mocked for it, your advice has really helped me feel more confident in my own body and the way I train everyday.. and I owe alot of that to you and I just wanted to say thank you for what you do and the example you've set for me.. you're my hero.
So awesome to hear this Tashil!! I was that skinny kid too.. but know that if you give it your all, anything is possible!! Keep training hard my friend!
I really love your energy and excitement in the videos keep it that way , honestly speaking your tips and tricks really did helped me a lot to perform exercises the right way , thanks bro.
Genious video! I probably fail on all of those 5 points (even tho I'm an intermediate athlete). Gains are accumulating just way too slowly, regarding the work ethics I put into my routine...
brian londono you need to balance intensity and volume. If your doing a push pull legs program 2 times a week the first half you could do intensity where u go heavier and do sets of 3-6 reps and the other second half of the week do PPL again but with sets of 10-12 and shorter rest times.
Hey ScottHerman, I just found your videos and have watched a few -- and I think you are one of the most professional fitness coaches on the internet (that I know of). I´m glad people like you are around because there is so much trash out there, people who act irresponsible by giving absolutely false instructions. So thanks and keep it up!
I did everything right, at least i think i did. I was eating like Hollywood stars when they train for their superhero roles (nothing fancy but with a solid plan for every week, i also calculated everything i intake). I trained consistently over two months, with a beginner full body program from muscleandstrength. I was sleeping 9 hours a day, every day. I meditated. I did yoga and walking on rest days. Zero sugar. Zero junk food. I somehow managed to lose 3% of my muscle mass and gain some fat. I mean, how? I know two months is a short period of time to make some visible progress, but to actually lose muscle? I thought i was finally on a good track, after many years of depression and bad habits. This failure is messing with my mind. I'm starting to think it's not worth it. I don't know what to do. I feel terrible.
@@ke7558 I'm using cronometer to calculate everything. I eat at least 500kcal above what I need. It's usually around 1000kcal. I physically cannot eat more. I'm already struggling with that much. I think my problem is low testosterone. I have many symptoms. Or at least something in my body chemistry. I guess the best thing to do is to see a doctor.
How to make gains 101 : eat enough, be consistent, be on a program with high volume(not a bro split), focus on compounds and add some assistance work, not otherwise around and have atleast semi decent form
Scott what you think about Vitamin B for building appetite in order to eat more? Some of us can't eat more food without appetite, so can Vitamin B help?
My man!! God bless you.. Was just measuring my biceps 💪 and they haven’t grown in a while and the notification light shines and i see this video! 😅 Love your work!
I like to use extra virgin olive oil as my salad dressing because I don't trust what's in marketed salad dressing. Sometimes I'll mix the olive oil with vinegar and seasoning. Damn this is hard. I started gym half a year ago And I’m seeing now that i’m doing everything wrong. I go 3 times a week for 1,5 hours. I just do Every chest exercise I know
I go to the gym every day, I always start a session doing some cardio. Day 1 I work legs, deadlift, squat, powerclean press, lunges. Day 2 I work chest, bench press, flies, both flat and incline. Please make the vidoe about the caloric surplus. :) Especially because Jeff from Athlean-X (whose videos I normally hold in very high regard) is against 'bulking' and for recompositioning.
I've seen the video in which he talks about it, what jeff was mainly pointing at was as Scott here also mentioned "dirty bulking", but also people who eat everything in sight (which is what many trainers actually recommend), doing so would put a person far over the amount he actually needs. it's just different word usage. buff dudes have made some fun of it in their own way as well
MCPepeh if there is more than one video in which Jeff talks about bulking, then you'd be right. but honestly i don't really want to watch them all, nor would i debate on the topic
it is more about genetics than ANYTHING! I know a guy (30) who eats whatever the hell he wants, pizza, chips, candy bars, ice cream, he is ripped AF!!!!!!!!
Great video as always Scott. Very informative and to the point, as we like to see it. I have been a subcriber for so many years, and don't regret a single minute I spend in your videos. One of the only real fitness channels out there.
If you are seeing results, yes that's OK! If you hit a plateau and need something new you can always try my PPL program! muscularstrength.com/Push-Pull-Legs
How do I build muscles AND be at a deficit for abs? Is there no way around? I see videos that tell me bulking and cutting isn't a good idea either. I'm not sure what is. Help out a sufferer here please.

This video was definitely helpful on all fitness levels, and I really would like to see you do a video on positive nitrogen levels like you mentioned somewhere between 2:30 and 2:50. One quick question, would it be safe to train abs every day especially on the non training & workout days?
I have had a lot of requests for the nitrogen video! And yes abs everyday is OK! Seen this video? 30 Day - 600 Reps Challenge! | BUILD MORE DEFINED OBLIQUES & SIX PACK ABS!!! ruclips.net/video/H5nDQiOZuC0/видео.html
ScottHermanFitness Awesome video! I never saw that before until just now. And now that I think about it, I think I will train my obliques the days I don't train my abs. Thanks for showing that video to me and I look forward to seeing more great videos including the one on nitrogen!

Scott, I would love for you to clear the air on Positive and Negative Nitrogen Balances! Even I, as a Professional trainer, have trouble with it. Thanks for all the content.
Keeping point 3 in mind, what I’ve heard a lot more is that after 3 weeks your body get used to the exercises and that’s when I switch. I don’t change my workout completely, because it feels like that’s where I need to change as it does feel I’m not growing.
Thx for ur help man ive watched most of ur videos to maximize my gains ...specifically my biceps and i can see a change already thank you dude it means alot 👍

Love it 9:43. I still have chance as a beginner then :D: I do small weights, ask for tips and go to gym for a spesific fysical exersise purpose. :) cheers! ;) ps. I am a rookie sports coach also and learning new things every day. Thx for your video series: very useful.
Joel Hjert his physique is incredible, but he is small. With a shirt on he just looks like a normal skinny guy, which I dont think most peolle watching this video aspire for.
Joel Hjert he looks jacked without a shirt because he is so lean. But when he wears a shirt he becomes your avarage skinny guy,he looks as skinny as Jesse.
On mistake 3 - your body become efficient at performing a movement if you're always repeating them, it's important to change up (whether it be in composition of sets, order of exersise or even a diff exersise) - what's your take on "shocking" your muscles? Arnold also supports this theory of shocking the muscles and the importance being comfortable with being uncomfortable
Favorite , perfect video. Answered every question i had from a previous video . Now, just need you to make how to know you are overtraining and how to cure/heal joints pains/wounds.
Overtraining is very hard to do if you are eating and sleeping right.. but you typically know you are overtraining when you lose the energy to hit the gym and hit plateaus very quickly.

Seriously? Your so right everything that you mentioned is 100% right and I'm sticking with it
Awesome!! Let's see those gains!!
Please make the vidoe about the caloric surplus. :) Especially because Jeff from Athlean-X (whose videos I normally hold in very high regard) is against 'bulking' and for recompositioning.
video* haha
I've seen the video in which he talks about it, what jeff was mainly pointing at was as Scott here also mentioned "dirty bulking", but also people who eat everything in sight (which is what many trainers actually recommend), doing so would put a person far over the amount he actually needs.
it's just different word usage. buff dudes have made some fun of it in their own way as well
Emile Coleman You obviously have not watched his videos
MCPepeh if there is more than one video in which Jeff talks about bulking, then you'd be right. but honestly i don't really want to watch them all, nor would i debate on the topic
it is more about genetics than ANYTHING! I know a guy (30) who eats whatever the hell he wants, pizza, chips, candy bars, ice cream, he is ripped AF!!!!!!!!
Great video as always Scott. Very informative and to the point, as we like to see it. I have been a subcriber for so many years, and don't regret a single minute I spend in your videos. One of the only real fitness channels out there.
Scott I only do 3 sets on all my exercises including compound movement my workouts always consist of 3 exercises is that ok
If you are seeing results, yes that's OK! If you hit a plateau and need something new you can always try my PPL program! muscularstrength.com/Push-Pull-Legs
Good info Scott, a lot of people need to hear this
Yo Scott! I'm getting a lot of gains recently, but I haven't been able to achieve super saiyan! Help a fellow saiyan out will ya.
Just train at 400x Earth's gravity bro ;-)
How do I build muscles AND be at a deficit for abs? Is there no way around? I see videos that tell me bulking and cutting isn't a good idea either. I'm not sure what is. Help out a sufferer here please.
I was like..huh? Then he hit me with the Goku analogy and it all of a sudden it made so much sense. Thanx Scott.
Haha people think we watch Dragon Ball Z just for fun.. but we learn stuff too! :-D Make sure you check out the 12 week programs available on my site so you can get ready for my Cheat & recover program! muscularstrength.com/Full-Workout-Programs
Man u r awesome I'm Brazilian and now I'm living on texas.loving ur videos and learning a lot from them thank u bro
Man, I'm so glad I found your video. This is exactly what I needed to hear.
Scott is the type of guy to photoshop himself to look worse and smaller haha. Nice vid, man!
Haha thanks for watching man!!

Scott,
I would love for you to clear the air on Positive and Negative Nitrogen Balances! Even I, as a Professional trainer, have trouble with it. Thanks for all the content.
The number one reason you are not growing.... You are not using TIEGE HANLEY!
Want to get stronger? TIEGE HANLEY Want to get bigger? TIEGE HANLEY
Lol.....😂😂😂
Aaron Marino gonna sue you for this..
Hahahahaha
Wats TIEGE HANLEY???
@@lrt9550its an ongoing joke from "Alpha M" channel
Keeping point 3 in mind, what I’ve heard a lot more is that after 3 weeks your body get used to the exercises and that’s when I switch. I don’t change my workout completely, because it feels like that’s where I need to change as it does feel I’m not growing.
It's actually more like 6-8 weeks. Every 3 weeks is pretty soon.
Your thumbnails look real cool! lol
haha thanks!
Dude, awesome videos, seriously... You killed it with the goku reference at the end
Great video Scott! Thanks for all the info.
I would like to see that video talking about nitrogen balance and caloric surplus / deficit.
Thanks man! I can definitely make it if the people want it!!
(4:41) that's totally me man; thank you for so much for that information
SCOTT IS BRILLIANT x I'm a lady but man what an informative video x

I made this mistake. I started eating more and now my muscles 💪 are growing. Thanks Scott. 👍
Being an Aussie myself, your accent is music to my ears lol
Love it 9:43. I still have chance as a beginner then :D: I do small weights, ask for tips and go to gym for a spesific fysical exersise purpose. :) cheers! ;) ps. I am a rookie sports coach also and learning new things every day. Thx for your video series: very useful.
8:52 i love when he says that *i lift things up and put them doown*
Haha you like my Arnie impression :-D
I thought the last point would be the least informative but it actually taught the most
I'm that skinny guy trying to add those gains, thanks for those helpful tips Scott. I'll be applying those this week. Love the videos too.
You will be making some serious gains with these tips my bro!!
Absolutely the best fitness channel to learn something from 👍🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Love the DBZ reference
I'll start to include more! haha.
Great video Scott. I have a hard time eating enough food. The stretches where I am able to eat consistently I noticed a big difference.
Apperently im a magician. I was able to loose weight and gain muscle at the same time.
very helpful, could see the visible changes within 2 weeks after following your tips, thanks pal!
@ 2:34 Athlean X :P
hahaha!!!
He is shit

Body fat is a surplus.
Your last few videos have been really really good...👌
Thank you!!
Jeff cavaliere from Athlean X stays in a Slight caloric deffesit and he also explains How bulk and cut is BS, thoughts on that?
Joel Hjert He's also really small
Rekway u got to be kidding, his physice is incredible!!
Joel Hjert his physique is incredible, but he is small. With a shirt on he just looks like a normal skinny guy, which I dont think most peolle watching this video aspire for.
ChallengingGravity have u even seen him? His arms are huge, his back is wide and his abs are Well shaped. Also he has broad shoulders and big traps!
Joel Hjert he looks jacked without a shirt because he is so lean. But when he wears a shirt he becomes your avarage skinny guy,he looks as skinny as Jesse.
I just watched a vid of yours from 2014. Fuck me you've improved your presentation skills. Props.
but I dont get it, isnt it good to stimulate your muscles in different ways so it doesnt get used to just one movement? can i please get an answer
Yes it is good, but that's what changing programs is for, and that should only be done every 6-8, maybe even 8-12 weeks.
"Gotta confuse the body"
one of the best videos on RUclips.
You need to be consuming enough CAAArBBsss
There is no 'R' in CAAAAAAAAAHS :-P
KEEEEEBS
Thank you so much. I'm a petite 37 year old woman and this helped me a lot.
Bro put video on COMPOUND exercise schedule for entire week
Why not just follow my PPL program bro? It has all the compounds and everything laid out ready to go! muscularstrength.com/Push-Pull-Legs
ScottHermanFitness ok tnx bro
I really like this video. How you explained it was simple and to the point. Good shit!
Thanks! I do my best to make things easy to understand! :-)
Your traps got bigger,nice
Thanks for noticing! Been smashing them with heavy above the knee rack pulls!
To bang big black asses 😀
Still no leg day.
And what do you do once u realize you're overtraining, take a break? I already tried reducing the load.
And thanks a you are a big help.
First TYRONE comment, beat dat bois. Eating some chicken whilst watching this!
Chicken for the win!!!
Took me years to learn a lot of this through trial and error. Spot on.
Me too man, I wish I knew a lot of this stuff when I started training! haha. Make sure you check out the 12 week programs available on my site so you can get ready for my Cheat & recover program! muscularstrength.com/Full-Workout-Programs
