frenchfrydude996 It was beautiful never the less I am not British but I love listening to other countries anthem before a game it's always my favorite part
He missed his cue, and came in off time with the music, but the crowd had already started, so then a moment later sang along to the crowd. IMHO they shouldnt need a singer at all. Nothing worse than some female opera singer shouting it out over a too loud PA. It's there for the crowd and players to sing....
Euro 96. What a great tournament and a great time. Summer days lasted forever and I grew up watching players like, Pearce, Shearer, Ince, Gascoigne, Seaman and the Tony Adams. Real Englishmen.
Will never forget Euro 96. I was 18. Great times. Great Memories. International football with England went down hill after it and has never been the same since.
+I Hussain Nah rubbish. The players don't show the passion anymore, but the real problem is, we don't produce quality players either. When was the last time we produced a player half as a good as Paul Gascoigne?
Not british, but this gives me goosebumbs everytime i watch it! Must truly be an inspiration to stand on the pitch and hear that sound! Love how the the singer is astonished and shocked over the sound from the stands and just leaves the singing to the english 😊😊👍
Whenever I'm feeling down about the England team I just watch this and it takes me back to 1996, so glad I was old enough to enjoy it. Sometimes I talk to the youngsters at work about this tournament and they reply with "I wasn't even born then" This is when we weren't scared to go forward, and played with 2 out and out forwards. None of that tippy tappy boring 0-0 sideways Dier/Henderson crap we have to watch now. Can I also just add that I don't think there is an English supporter alive who doesn't love Stuart Pearce. What a true hero that man was, the way he sings the national anthem says it all. 150% given in everything he does. But it was the balance of the team in Euro 96 that was so right. A lot of creativity in midfield combined with a great strike force. The intelligence and quick mind of Sheringham combined with Alan Shearer, probably the best English striker of all time in the premier league era. Great memories
Best redition of our anthem ever and led by a Luton lad who knew when to stop singing even though he had a great voice he knew to let the fans do the job. spine tingling . if we ever win the euros or world cup this would be hard to beat. will we see in berlin 2024 cause our name is on it COME ON ENGLAND
England is the best footballing nation on Earth. Not the most talented perhaps, but the most passionate, and with the best leagues and supporters in the world. Respect.
People weren't more patriotic back then. They just had a lot more money, and a lot more reason to be happy. When an economy is booming, and people have money, they tend to love their country a lot more. And divisive, horrible groups like EDL and UKIP don't have the same success
I think the opposite is true poorer areas of countries tend to be more patriotic e.g southern USA, and poorer countries more patriotic than richer ones.
@@Mvbongobel yea. You'll see more St Gerorge's Crosses hanging from grotty council estates than in surbuban areas. Shame todays prima donnas don't have this passion.... Psycho, Shearer, Southgate... And its bot just the players, supporters have lost the passion shown here
Seeing comments from 3 years plus ago... an still be in the same situation makes me sad, but still goosebumps everytime makes me proud to be English!!!
Simply brilliant. It's no wonder it was a team to be proud of. I wonder how many of the current squad will sing with such passion this summer. Less than one at a guess.
This was 4 months before I was born :/ shame I didn't get to see it because they were so passionate back then, nowadays they just mumble and they don't actually care about representing their country and doing well. Hopefully we can play good in the first 2 games when Rooney isn't playing so they don't have to play him in the rest of the tournament.
England, Scotland, Wales, Nrth Ireland are all seperate countries within the united kingdom. The soverign state we exist in is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. However, we still retain our national borders and heritage and perform as our own original countries at internationals.... We use the British anthem because England had dominance over Great Britain for sometime and the government won't change it for the time being... This though Is why I love being English...
Football was so much better in the 1990s, and the old wembley had such a better atmosphere then the new one, its full of prawn sandwich eaters nowadays. Real passion back then.
I always feel this summer of 96 was the peak in what was England as a counry i couldnt stand the 80s and things really started taking off in the 90s . the whole feel of the country the music scene and lifestyle , there was a slow decay after this summer 0f 96 for me . what a summer remember it like yesterday. crap fa should have held on for dear life to El Tel then Hoddle could have taken the Golden generation from 2002 and still been England manager to this day of course this all would have been after Bobby Robson who FA should have held on to till El Tel and Clough should have been the 10 years before Bobby . FA has always made the wrong choices .
@cymruadam No, the speakers didn't break. The organisers thought this would lift the english team by hearing the fans passionatly sing the national anthem and raise there game.
Queen Liz 😢 makes me proud to be British. England players giving their all belting out the NATIONAL ANTHEM
Today, they would call this patriotic display racist. The players would be foreigners too.
Why would it be called racist? You do realise that this is still our naruinal anthem, right?
Imbecile.
that singer knows he job, as soon as he heard whole stadion he stoped singing and didnt ruined this fantastic performance.
he didn't stop singing, he stopped for a few seconds then carried on, if you listen closely then you can hear him

CRAZYJONESY Xx why can't it be like this now!
Kieron Laughton thank you someone who understands this is how England football should be
New labour destroyed all patriotism in our country. It's now supposedly racist to be a patriot, even though race ≠ nationality.
ikr, if this happened now people would be like "OMG RACISM TRIGGERED" and so on, proud to be english
Ollie Barbor incredible isn't it
