England fan here. Remember this game all too well. Even accepting that you could get away with a lot more back then, there were so many tackles in this match that should have resulted In a card of one colour or another. Most people in England lament the Gazza ‘miss’, but I forgot we hit the post as well. Germany’s second goal should have stood. We rode our look in that tournament, I’d say we were on the fortunate side of getting past Spain in the previous round.
Can't make out who the England player on the post is for the Germany goal that wasn't given put he's very clearly pulling a Suarez and tries to stop the ball with his arm.
Pure corruption this was england never should have had this much help from the ref the fouls were out of control and the disallowed goal is pure match fixing. They tried their hardest and still couldn't do it well done to England
@@felixblub900 As an English fan, it is nice to see recognition for how unlucky England has been in major tournaments. Maradona's handball in 86, Brehme's deflected free kick in 90, Ronaldinho's mishit cross in 02, Frank Lampard's disallowed goal in 10 etc. We've had 2 golden generations in the 2000s that the world expects to win tournaments but still hasn't happened and I fear 2018 - 2022, coming so close but still not winning, was our last chance. Long live the England-Germant rivarly - legend nations.

Amazing that Gascoigne, Pearce or Platt were able to play 120 minutes without a red card and that Puhl was the referee after not seeing Tasotti’s elbow on Luis Enrique in the World Cup two years earlier.

Still respect Southgate for having the guts to take one. Ince, Mcmanaman and Anderton were all players who had goals in them and were more obvious candidates but they all bottled it.
Southgate also hit it on target, and managed to lead us into our first victory in a World Cup penalty shootout 22 years later. That redemption must've been huge for him.
It was nothing to do w/ him m8. The manager is helpless in any penalty shootout in any given match. What is unforgivable is he made money from that miss.

This was the real Final of Euro 1996 🏴🇩🇪
An unforgettable match, played by two top class teams, determined to win. Both teams would dominate today.
You watch this and realize thats when soccer was played by men and not drama queens.
Indeed, quite a few rough tackles on both sides. But the players always get back on their feet, none of the fake wincing that is so common nowadays.
Umm, did you watch til the end😂 all good til they were cuddling the goalie on the ground lol
Rubbish, the England team in.last world cup who reached semis, would run rings round this lot . Take off the rose tinted glasses ffs....!!!!
Was für ein geiles Spiel. Ich bekomme Gänsehaut genau wie damals. 👍
dont blame Neymar
Wie stark Möller damals war. Diese raffinierten Pässe, und sein Antritt. Wahnsinn.
I was at this game. This is the first time I've been able to watch it since then.
The best match that I have ever seen. I had seen this match live. Real world class football.

Such excellent matches were decided by luck. Still hoping england will win a world cup. To many unlucky situation in the past. By the way iam german.
@@bloodybutterfly7113 Germany second goal was real
@@felixblub900 As an English fan, it is nice to see recognition for how unlucky England has been in major tournaments. Maradona's handball in 86, Brehme's deflected free kick in 90, Ronaldinho's mishit cross in 02, Frank Lampard's disallowed goal in 10 etc. We've had 2 golden generations in the 2000s that the world expects to win tournaments but still hasn't happened and I fear 2018 - 2022, coming so close but still not winning, was our last chance. Long live the England-Germant rivarly - legend nations.
Seeing this right after the abysmal Netherlands-England Semi of euro 2024... then this match, between real man, real warriors, no coward play, no bs VAR that only serves coward play. What a fight, real football.
Amazing that Gascoigne, Pearce or Platt were able to play 120 minutes without a red card and that Puhl was the referee after not seeing Tasotti’s elbow on Luis Enrique in the World Cup two years earlier.
Football played at this level is not for the weak. One of the best, of all time.
Magnificent match by both teams. England had two near misses in 1st half extra time, Germany had a goal disallowed and no penalties wasted by either side. The rivalry burns!!
The English team should've got at least 3 red cards for the tackles that age clearly aiming for the legs not the ball.

Same here - but from an English perspective. A phenomenal game from start to finish. Two teams of warriors, fearless and determined, carving out chance after chance.

This was only six years after Italia 90, yet, it feels like ages between these two games.
Well in six 6 years we can expect a world cup and an Eurocup. It is not a short but nor a long time neither.
I agree! And one possible reason is that World Cup '94 was so great that it looks like a real divide, thus making the time between '90 and '96 feel so long!...
USA 94 and the Premier League changed football.
No England in USA’94 😂
This game was great, but most of Euro 96 was boring. Like Italia 90
Hammer!
Genau kein tammtamm, Ball hingelegt nicht lange rumgemacht sondern zackig unters Dach geschweisst. Ein unglaublich geiler Elfmeter
People remember this game more than the actual final, and for good reasons. To many people, this was the final.

Ref did his best to help England and keep them playing with 11 players, but at the end, Germany will always prevail, they have the right mentality...
Such a beautiful Stadium. I still miss the Old Wembley.
I still miss old school football...
Great game of competitive, emotion filed football. Both teams attacking
Full of class, speed, and bone crunching rivalry.
Both teams excellent.

this would be 5 v 5 with all the sending offs nowadays
nope the game would be stoped when one team is down to 8 or 9... and the other team would win the game automatically....
who would score if all sent off hahahahaha
Andy Möller hit Stuart Pearce in the bollocks, that is the only red for Germany.
The first team to receive 4 red cards loses automatically (0:3). Basically, there can't be a team on the field with less than 8 players.
thats true. Very sad for the football now
Still respect Southgate for having the guts to take one.
Southgay was at fault for the first goal as well dogshite player

English players played very dirty. Loved to see Germany won this game. Delighted to see Andy Muller's celebration too. England team got what they deserved in this match.
I think Andreas Möller's posing after he scored was embarrassing (I'm from Germany :)). But I loved to watch this match as a 14-year-old kid, I remember being nervous, but also super excited, pure emotions. Today's football is totally leaving me cold in comparison.

Shearer's lethal quality
Sammar - the beating heart of the German machine
Gazza's fractional miss and England's numerous chances
Kuntz's disallowed goal
Pearce's elation at exorcising his demons when he scored his penalty
Moeller's reaction to his winning penalty
That tackle in 3:29 that would be straight red cards in any modern game.
So did 7:36. Hell i see 4/5 red cards if they use modern game rules in here 🔥☠️
Definitely a red without a doubt even in without Var , he only played his leg as so it’s an aggression.

25 caps for Germany, 6 goals. Even Füllkrug stands at 11 goals in 15 matches. The german national team has very different problems, although the last two matches against France and the Netherlands were a much needed improvement.
I have to admit that both teams took some of the best penalty shots I've ever seen

Strunz took that penalty with cold blood!
You probably mean Jürgen Kohler. He missed most of the Euro because of injury.
Don't forget Scholl, even if he was subbed. What runs, what technique 👍
They also left Effenberg on the squad. 🔒🔥
